Good morning all let's cross live to Lew Rockwell political consultant
Lew I was going to have you on the program. We're not quite sure what they make of all this
the threats from North Korea and the Trump administration should we be taking them at face value?
Well I think it's first of all alarming I mean
for the United States to keep threatening the extermination of a poor little country
that it hates not a good thing this is by the way an act of war as well
the North Koreans either have a nuclear deterrent or they're pretending to,
but the only reason if they do have it, the only reason they've got it is to keep themselves
from being exterminated by the US.
That's what this is all about, so the idea that the answer to this kind of alarming very alarming business that
let's say the worst happens it could wipe out South Korea could wipe out Japan
it could do just damage to China the damage to Russia I mean this is then of course
all the U.S. occupying troops in South Korea would all be killed too - this is not
anything anybody should want. So absolutely the path is to calm things down stop making threats
how about some talks? In fact I want to make a really radical suggestion:
How about letting the South Koreans handle this? This is their country their people
they want peace with North Korea they would like all
this tone down they don't want U.S. missiles and troops in their country.
How about letting the South Korean Prime Minister was an advocate of peace
meet with the North Koreans?
why is this the U.S.'s business? Why is South Korea own
and North Korea they like to be a wise it owned by the US.
Why is Guam still owned by the U.S., after all these years since conquering it from Spain?
So yeah everything I'd like to think is that [Rex Wayne] Tillerson is a little bit less crazy
than some of the other voices we hear but absolutely we need to calm down
this would be such a horrific disaster it could be the worst military disaster in human history
if the North Koreans actually have these weapons, which by the way
I'm not convinced they do have them.
Yeah we're talking of course of a calming done but we just heard there from the State Department that
North Korea quote "doesn't understand the language of diplomacy "
is that true our talks really impossible here?
No of course the talks aren't impossible well
the US had talks with us with the Soviet Union plenty of times
of course talks aren't impossible so that's diplomacy.
So to have the President of the United States keep threatening to destroy North Korea
this how shall I put it: this is not the language of democracy.
So I'm sure that Kim jong-un is not a good guy
although a lot of times when the US has demonized countries it wants to destroy
I think in Iraq I think of Libya, Syria,
they always make the leader of the country much worse than he actually is in practice
and typically they're bad enough in practice.
So I don't think we none of us know much of anything about North Korea and yet the US is
perfectly happy to threaten to destroy it as it's the sort of and regime change of course
so many countries around the world that we might say the US only understands that kind of language
-One aspect that you just had to bring in for,
sorry for interrupt, but you mentioned South Korea
if Seoul pushes ahead with developing more powerful ballistic missiles
what does that mean for the Korean Peninsula?
well it's not good but it's it's you know what the South Koreans want to do ought to be their own business on the
other hand while they're occupied by the US while they're a colony of the US
you know they're not doing what they actually would like to do
so the US needs to pull its troops out of North Korea where they'd be sitting ducks of any...
if warfare breaks out they certainly 28,000 troops aren't capable
of preventing an invasion by the north but I don't think the North wants
a war the reason they have these nukes if they have them,
is to try to prevent themselves from being attacked they don't want a war
they don't want to be attacked they're going about this perhaps in a crazy way
and I noticed the US to today demand it not only that they cut
on their nuclear program and I think that would be a good idea for the U.S. too by the way
but they also should open themselves up to US economic interests.
Well what exactly does that mean and why is that a reason to go to war
so that North Korea can be populated by New York banks and and that sort of thing is that what's going on,
So I think I think that calm down stop threatening
that's the first step to preventing some horrendous war.
It's talking about economic issues there the latest UN sanctions against North Korea
that just happened you know not so long ago, has that made any influence is it going to help?
Well of course it's only, first of all it's horrible, it's immoral
you can't directly try to starve civilians to death as a war policy
this goes against Just War theory and every kind of moral law there is
I heard two birds on CNN discussing all this the other day and they said well
the last time it really helped because it helped cause a famine in North Korea
this time they said now there's a drought in North Korea so maybe this will have really have a good effect
In other words they're trying to starve the North Korean people
who my guess is because of their communist system are barely hanging on as it is,
from a food standpoint you can this is just murder
it's not moral, it's not right, it's an evil war tactic,
to target the civilians on the opposing side.
So I hope these sanctions aren't carried out I hope the Chinese don't enforce them I hope the Russians don't enforce them
I hope they're not enforced.
If we're going to have peace the U.S. has to repeal its sanctions,
by the way it should repeal its sanctions against Russia too,
sanctions are anti-civilian
they're designed to hurt civilians and therefore they're entirely illegitimate
U.S. repeal your sanctions North Korea calm down,
let's have some talks because it could be in Seoul, it could be in China or in Russia.
So that's the path
Ok, thanks very much for your thoughts this hour Lew Rockwell political consultant,
always great to have you on the program
thank you.
