Quite a big box in our hands today,
It's even hard to fit this in frame...
And what's inside?
Ordered at AliExpress: Xiaomi MIJIA MI-Robot
A cleaning robot, a vacuum cleaner just like Roomba
and other equipment that rides alone around the house.
The delivery time was very, very short
The pack was shipped in less than two days.
As you can see whole box is taped
We'll try to get inside somewhere...
I do not know whether there is a second box inside or not,
So just in case, we will open it gently.
Tape here-and-there looks damaged - it may be the transit.
Let's look inside!
The vacuum cleaner is not protected by any styrofoam,
Or even bubble-wrap,
From what I see, it's not harmed at all anyway,
Device is in one piece as it should.
Some paperwork, invoices,
Charging dock
and a small box with cablework.
What do we have inside?
In the box we have:
Docking station,
which is a charger too,
and has an interesting security-feature,
Starts working only when
it "feels" the robot parked.
This is accomplished by two pressed contacts.
Oh, here we have a flap under which there is a power socket,
We can do some cable management here.
Okay, we'll take care of this later.
Here is the box with a power cord,
of course the Chinese-plug,
Small comb, probably for cleaning brushes,
Oh, and nice addition - two adapters for our European sockets,
Perfect, we will be able to test the device.
Let's go to the vacuum cleaner itself.
As you can see it is very similar to iRobot,
Maybe this is the reason why Xiaomi doesn't go aggressively on other markets than Chinese,
Be aware that this can not be unfortunately in any Polish shop,
You must order it from for example: AliExpress.
Okay, more about the vacuum cleaner...
It is equipped with 12 sensors,
Among other things we have here: laser rangefinder,
Ultrasonic sonar; on the both sides...
There are two?
No, there is one - an optical sensor,
Below we have an inclination sensor,
Tilt sensor and something in called a cliff sensor,
I assume this is something that will protect the vacuum cleaner from sliding down the stairs,
There is also a gyro here, we also have an accelerometer,
So the vacuum really sees and feels,
IMHO a little more than the competition.
In front of the bumper we have a collision sensor,
Thanks to which the vacuum knows it has hit an obstacle
And should turn.
The 5200mAh battery, according to the manufacturer, suffices for ca. 2.5 hours of cleaning.
Under the flap we have access to a dust container, which has a specification of less than 0.5 liters,
It is equipped with HEPA filter, which will please allergy sufferers.
I wonder how fast it will fill up during home cleaning.
Back to the base of the robot,
There is a rotating brush and additional broomsticks here,
Which will sweep dust from the corners or from the edge of the floor next to the wall,
Since it does not reach the wall itself, it maintains a constant distance of 1cm from the wall.
This brush is also removable, for cleaning, you can lift the flap, pull the brush,
and with help of a comb - here is a small knife
- We can smudge any hair that will fall on the brush.
What is important: all the descriptions on the vacuum cleaner are in Chinese.
Because the equipment is not available in western market,
Xiaomi did not prepare special translated versions,
Also the instruction, all the documents, simply contain Chinese.
Images are some of the simplest, but more advanced configuration may require a translator.
Fortunately, Google Translator handles translation of texts based on images,
so there should be no problems using this vacuum.
And since we are talking about usage, we need a smartphone or tablet to properly use this vacuum,
You have to install the MiHome application.
It also requires us to set up an Internet account on the Xiaomi servers,
Thanks to this account, we can manage the equipment from any place, not just being in the home network.
The process of pairing with a vacuum cleaner is not complicated - MI-Robot first creates a wifi network,
With which we should connect, and when our smartphone will "see" the vacuum cleaner,
You choose your home wifi network with which the docking station and the cleaning device will be connected.
Unlike paperwork and descriptions on hardware, the application has been translated,
A package of English voice messages was also prepared,
So the vacuum cleaner will speak to us in a more understandable language than Mandarin.
During cleaning, MiHome allows you to keep track of your progress.
We see the maps drawn by the sensors, and the trail created during the cleanup,
Current position of the vacuum cleaner and docking station,
Battery charge, the area of already cleaned floor,
As well as the duration of the cleaning process.
App also gives you the ability to choose language of the voice pack,
Overview of cleaning history, including time and total area,
Here we will also set a schedule according to which the vacuum cleaner will do the cleaning
Without our participation - completely autonomous.
For those who like fun, there is a remote control that allows us to switch to manual.
We also have operational information, with filters or brush wear meters,
Yous should exchange those from time to time to maintain high cleaning efficiency.
The application will also notify you about the need to clean the sensors.
Video-instructions are available, such as extracting the filter or other elements.
There is also the option of "do not disturb" mode.
That is the time in which the vacuum cleaner should not work,
Or to make out any sounds.
General settings give us the ability to name or even share devices with others,
This is a cool option that allows us to easily control the same vacuum cleaner
For several people, with different smartphones and separate user accounts.
Here also we can check the software update.
Ok, back to the map, you can see how MI-Robot divides the room into sectors
And each of them cleans methodically inch by inch,
Bypassing all obstacles.
The path is sometimes chaotic in places where there are smaller obstacles
- if you have children or pets that can scatter their toys around,
Remember to collect everything from the floor. The same applies to lying cables or extension cords.
I used the vacuum cleaner for some time now, and I can recommend it with a clear conscience.
My Rosita Jetson - like we named MI-Robot - efficiently cleans the whole ground floor,
Where normally dunes were created, dunes of sand brought from walks by our dog,
Doggy, to our surprise, is not reacting to Rosita cleaning every day.
To sum this up: if you do not like cleaning, but like clean spaces,
You definitely will like Xiaomi MI-Robot!
Battery size: 5200mAh (about 2.5hrs work time); Dust bin: 0.42l with HEPA filter
