Today's video is all about how I got accepted into Ohio state on one of my past videos of my acceptance letter from Osu
Reaction by my parents a lot of people have been commenting like questions
If they think they will get accepted like their stats for their gPA and their act
So I figured this video can be a good
Helpful tip to see if you're good standing to get admitted into this university or maybe you should
Tweak some things on your application and make yourself more appealing
So this advice is what I've seen through my own experience and my friends
It's important to realize that I can be wrong you know admissions can see the same application
Like if you have two applicants are exactly the same
Admissions may accept one admissions me deny the other so you never know what's going to happen exactly
But I feel like this video is a good advice tip
Video for you that can you know better your chance at knowing where you stand of getting into the university or not
So just start I was accepted to Ohio state on November 22nd
2014 I am a junior at Ohio state this upcoming fall, so I'll be my third year when I apply it
I apply through the common app like you do today, and I apply it on September 12, 2014 I
applied early
Action because I wanted to find out if I got except they're not earlier than our regular admissions deadline
Early action is non-binding
So you can still apply to other schools if you want if you don't know if you for sure want to go to osu
so if you get accepted you're not
Tied to going to ohio state you can still have other options when you apply early
Action you find out within like two months of applying so that is a great thing to
Consider if you want to know really soon. I took the act three times my third time was the best score
I got it was a 29
Here are some of the other scores. I got
You know the breakdown. I would recommend taking the writing every single time that you take the acT.
Ohio State wants to see that you took that writing section and
So you might as well take it with the acp every time because you don't know which one you're going to get the best scores
on A
Twenty nine on the Ac t along with my gPA allow me to get the osu Trustees scholarship
This is a merit-based scholarship. They have three different ones
Trustees is the lowest one that gave me a thousand dollars a semester
So you know if they take that away from intuition you pay a thousand less
It's changed in the past year or two
I'll I have a picture of it right here the scholarship amount ins amounts
Have changed what they look at is your acp score?
so if you have a 29 or of a 30 year up
And then whatever it says up here or up. They mainly look at your a cT score, so
You can also have a sat score as well. They look at class rates. They say but my high school to do class rank
but I think they look more at gPA and
You're a ct a ct mainly
So that's something to consider too, and when you apply early action to a house eight
You're automatically put in the pool to win these scholarships from Ohio state
so if you apply early action
And you have about a twenty nine on a ct or above you're almost guaranteed a scholarship to Ohio state
The average a ct score for Osu is about like a 29 or 30
the lowest score that I heard of someone being accepted is a 25 and
You know that's pretty rare at Ohio state. You don't hear many people
Getting a 25 I know up one person most people got at least a 28
you know I would say to be on the safe side if
you have a 29 or above you're pretty much guaranteed a spot at Osu if you have a
27 to 29 I would say you're really good standing your up just about the average area if you have
25 or 26 I would worry just a little bit
26 not really 25
Seems to be the cutoff line of where people get accepted and denied
I know people with more people with 25, so I got denies and accepted
so keep that in mind, but there's other things that factor in like your gPa your
Extracurriculars what classes you were taking so don't rely just on a cT score
You know there's other things that I factored in so don't want to be a deal breaker for you the writing score in a cT
Like I said really doesn't have any
Importance as you just want to see that you took it to kind of place you in a writing class make sure
You do Kinda what's going on when it comes to English and writing
You know this score really won't break you too much now that I've seen you know I got a nine
highest of a nine of 12 asleep on a ct for reading and
You know if I got a six?
I wouldn't be worried if I got four maybe but a six now I don't think you need to worry about your any score
Too much of course do your best you can
Don't let it be a deal-breaker for you of freaking out or whatnot
another large Factor to consider when applying is your gPa so I had a
3.75 I believe oh
when I applied to a house eight this was
You know I don't know so it's my weight is or unweighted. I have no idea. You know when you're applying to osu your gPA
can't really change if you want it to you know, so
There's not much you can do about it. So don't worry about it, but I would say
Average from GPA is probably around a 3.8 or above
There's plenty of people with lower gpas that get in and they're slinging people above 4.0
So I was to have gPa above a 3.8 is great to have you know I didn't even have that
And I got in pretty easily they had located so much more than just gPA
gPa reflects
How well you did in your classes?
But doesn't show really what classes you took so someone with really easy classes could have a super high gPA?
someone who took Ap classes all year long honors classes all year long could have like a 3.3 and
Email this can show that they really took hard classes, and they did well as so
So I'd say a gPa below three point. Three is a little worrisome, but
There's things I can explain about gPA and really
There's other ways your application to get pushed up higher but others so don't worry
Along with this it's kind of a good idea to take a few Ap courses
I'll see you likes to see that you took initiative to tell you some higher level courses and like college took courses
So you are prepared and they get a good feel of
If you're ready to go to college and to be a student at Ohio state and succeed
I took two Ap courses while I was in high school
Ap Physics and theythey set
both of these classes
Were too bad to take there the basic Ap course they weren't like higher level Ap courses I
Took the Ap test for both of them
I selected the option on my pee test to send my scores directly to a hollow state at the same time that I
Received the score, so Ohio state was going to see my good score on my bass score
No matter what on both of the tests?
I received a two score out of five and so I did not get credit for Ohio state
So three or above is what you typically get to get college credit
By, Ohio state still likes to see that I tried
And that I did take these courses and I do believe they definitely helped me
Prepare for the courses while I'm in college. You know that Chu is on my
Osu transcripts, I took the Ap class you know, I don't amount to much
They don't really mind
I would say of course if you didn't decide to send your test scores in automatically
If you got a two or below I wouldn't worry about sending your scores to Ohio state
There's really no point a half. They will still see that you took the course in high school
There's no reason for you to send a score that won't give you credit of course it won't really doing you any harm
There's just really no point in doing that for our share Curricular. So how is it really nice to see that you're well-rounded student it
shows a lot more if you can be a great student and
Also, you know do a sport all season long
Work a job do volunteer service be a leader in your community
Something of that, sort as I was in my senior year of high school
I volunteered and shadowed at a physical therapy office this helped give me a volunteer time and it also helped show oh, hi
oh state that I'm getting into the career that I'm interested in and
Really putting myself out there to be prepared for college and my future career
Next thing is to make sure that you take a tour of it with you
I want to three different tours of the campus for three different reasons
Ohio State kind of knows how many times you visited them. What programs you stall and observed and
it's just a great read show that you are interested and
You're really liking what the school has to offer and everything
I got it is important to see the campus at least one
You don't need to go multiple times
But at least once will be a good way to show that you have sort of um showed some interest in the school
Like I said there's different tours that you can go on the first one
I went on with a basic campus tour just like seeing the campus
The different programs and majors they offer the second tour was a health sciences physical therapy rehabilitation
Tour so this was a tour for my major and my program that I'm going into they talked a lot about
how to prepare for
the College
Coursework that I'm going into in healthcare and all that the last story
I went on was a honours and scholar store, so this is a program that allows state has
To kind of build off what they have academically and as a community
Honors and Scholars is definitely a good thing to consider when you're applying
When you're on the application if you want to apply for honors and scholars you do it through the common app when you do Ocs
Application so it has a separate little si thing that's not hard you just need to kind of talk about I think
Why you're interested in doing either honors or scholars?
So just to put short honors is more of the academic program. That is like your typical
Courses you had in high school like your honors classes versus regular classes honors doesn't really give you any higher credit?
You know it's just to push yourself push yourself harder in school
If it's too easy for you, so there's no real benefit to it other than it pushes you harder
Scholars on the other hand is more of a social community
effort
Programmable Io state most people I know do scholars
I only know a few people in honors, so scholars is more of a fun
Community aspect program if you're interested in scholars. It's a great idea to check the link down below

When you get accepted they later send an email on
The different programs there's like 17 programs
I'm pretty sure you pick your top three and you list it and you send it to them
and then they eventually tell you which program you get put in I
Am have not being put into the programs that I wanted either one of them
So I decided and not to do scholars you find out which one you get into into before you move in to Osu I?
Think like a month or a few weeks before the main thing why I wanted to do scholars is is something that here with me
it helps you be put into a community of people of similar interests and
Another ginormous great perk is that you get to schedule before everyone else. This is a huge
Like plus that comes with scholars, and I believe honors gets that as well
But you know depending on what you want to be in honors your scholars you choose
Yeah, so if you end up not being interested in scholars after all
You can opt out of it. It's a two-year program of being in scholars if you want to be in it for that long
So don't feel like you have to do it if you applied be in it
Another option sort of like scholars is a learning community. This is simply just living with the people that
Are going into the same field as you so?
My second year I lived in a learning community of future health professionals
So there's people like me wanting to go into physical therapy there were some pre-med students some
Radiology students things like that, so this is a great option for you if you're interested in having people on your floor
That have similar career interests
It's a great idea because a lot of people will be in the same classes as you
You'll end up having study group and go learning communities really tailor
to your needs they commonly have programs every month that aims to help you guys and
Yeah, so with these you have to live in the learning community
There's no option so if you're looking for a roommate you have to find the same one in the same learning community
So this is the same as the scholars program you have to live in
The same building that your scholars program is
again, I put the link down to learning communities allow and
It shows all the different options for you of the different types when filling out the comment up
Osu doesn't require you to send a letter of recommendation. They say it's optional, but it is considered oh by all means
Le Skywarn letter of recommendation a lot of people I know applying to a house. They take it two or three
I only did one, so
When I look back on it. I wish I kind of asked one more teacher to write anyone, but you know one was fine
I asked a teacher that was both. Oh
my teacher for school
my homeroom teacher and
She was also a like leader in the july program that was part of for a year or two in High school
This was someone who definitely knew who I was
Academically in character wise she knew what kind of person. I was outside of school and inside school. I was very confident
I had a strong letter of recommendation when you get your letters of recommendation
Be sure your ask your teachers way beforehand
Maybe like the beginning of summer before school starts because then they'll have all the time to write these
They're not going to get pushed into writing
Multiple letters of recommendation all at the same time and they'll really focus on yours if they're not busy
For mine. I emailed my teacher and after because you know some are already certified
Give her basically a resume of all the things that I've done throughout my high school career
So I included like volunteer works. I did different leadership opportunities
I had my gPa were and also where I wanted to go to school. What career plans
I had so this way they can personalize your letter recommendation and really make it great in not a cookie cutter
recommendation
So I say you write as a part of the comment app
You know isn't really I don't think it really is too important. You know admissions reads thousands of successes
It's important to make yourself stand out and look unique from others
I'm sure as I've read so many of the same type of essays
So make yourself stand out and make it unique
Really show what you can do for the school what you'll bring to the school instead of what the school can do for you?
Oh, she likes to hear how they can make their their community their college more diverse, so this is a great way

Or wait-listed they have a really cool tool that lets you input like your key score, or your sat score gPA
Just stuff like that, and then they end up showing a plot

accept their mission
so everything I got is a great tool to kind of see where you stand you can kind of see like a bubble of
Where people sort of don't get accepted versus where they do so just check out its awesome. Tool

Changed my gPA to see who did it change at all really that much or not I?
