Morning guys.
Hope you're well.
Hope you're all having a good day.
Just wanted to show you a little bit of a trap that a few people get caught on
when it comes to locating underground cables and being aware of what is on site.
So let me show you this.
So we're out on site at the moment.
And we've got a Telstra manhole.
In the manhole it's got optic fibre cables
and a heap of other conduits that go run like this
run straight up through here.
They keep going down that way and come back up this way here as well.
So there's about 6 or so conduits.
And it shows them on the plan.
Also, there's another Telstra cable or in a conduit
100mm conduit that runs straight up through here.
So straight up through here is a Telstra conduit
and look how far it is from the Telstra manhole over there.
So that's where it is there.
Telstra manhole there.
This cable, this pipe, this cable does not run in this manhole at all.
These manholes keep going straight down.
There's more manholes down there and that one is separate the whole way.
There's not in this one here at all.
And the reason why I want to bring this up, the reason why I want to show you guys this
is because a lot of times people get caught out.
They'll be out on a site, they'll say they're working on the road over there
and the, and they'll see the manhole there
they'll work well away from Telstra.
They'll look at the Dial Before You Dig plans they'll even get Dial Before You Dig plans.
Look at the plans and will have a couple of lines on there.
They'll see the couple of lines and think they'll go over to
the manhole straight to the other manhole.
What they don't realise is if you look closer at the plans
or if you look at the bigger plans sometimes you've got to zoom out further out
you'll see there's another cable, another pipe that goes
from another, doesn't go in a manhole
it goes from another conduit from another pit down further
up to another pit.
So that's where I wanted to show you that
just because you see a manhole there.
Just because you might get Dial Before You Dig plans
and you might see a manhole there.
Make sure you study the plans properly.
Because just because there's 6 or 7 conduits and optic fibres and stuff through there
there is still, there could still be other Telstra conduits
some Telstra cables away from that one.
So there could be more than one.
They're both major cables so when you look at the plans
you've got your local cables and you've got your main cables.
There's 2 different Depends where you are.
Sometimes you get 2 different sheets.
Sometimes you get 3 sheets of different services on
from Dial Before You Dig.
And so the first one is your local stuff.
The bottom one, the second one that you get is your main stuff.
Both these are major cables.
They're both main cables that run through from they go from exchange to exchange.
I'm not too sure where they go.
Anyway, but yeah.
Mainly, I just wanted to give you guys a heads up
just to be aware that if you're, let's say for example
we're digging out here digging on the road
and you see that manhole right there.
You'll think yeah, we're well away from Telstra.
No you're not.
There's still more Telstra there.
So, just a bit of a heads up really.
Just give you guys a heads up to just be aware.
Just read the plans better when you get them.
Just double check them.
Or get a, better still
get a certified Dial Before You Dig certified locator to come out.
You can't be a Telstra, be Telstra accredited unless you are Dial Before you Dig certified.
So get someone that's Telstra accredited.
And the only way to know they're Telstra accredited is if
they are Dial Before You Dig certified.
They might still be a few guys that are Dial Before You Dig certified that aren't
Telstra accredited.
So everyone, we all carry our cards.
Haven't got mine on me.
It's in the car.
Actually, I've got it on the phone, I can show you but that's alright.
So yeah, just ask to see their card.
Just to confirm they are Telstra accredited.
That's if you need assistance so that you don't get caught out with traps like this.
Guys, alright this video has gone a bit longer than I expected.
I just wanted to do a real quick shout out just to give you guys a heads up
to be aware of jobs like this.
Take care.
Talk soon.
Bye.
