Apple CarPlay vs Android Auto в топовой ММ системе Mercedes - Duration: 25:25.Hi, everyone! LOUD SOUND back with you!
And today we're having a very special review. For starters, I'm in the release zone at Klyuch-Avto dealer's
This is where they give you your car, and this is where I recently picked up my - well, actually, my wife's C-klasse.
So you can wait on another special review of this C.
And today, we're having an Android vs. iOS review.
AndroidAuto vs Apple CarPlay, to be precise. Not everyone knows what that is.
And those who know, they don't know how they work.
And those who know how it works on iPhone have no clue 'bout how it works on Android and vice versa
Today, we'll check out to what extent a sys like this is subject to intuitive grasp, and how functional it can be.
Today to assist me here is yet again a good friend of mine, Stas.
The guy who hepled us a lot with the E-klasse review.
That was actually the first review of the kind. In case you didn't notice -- I mean, people were saying
Cool. You didn't run a test drive for a single person but you'vr invilved - 300K? - About 250K people took a ride with me in an E-klasse
I'm not buying an E yet.
You might come up with a fair question. Why Klyuch Avto?
We are here 'cuz we were given this amazing E-klasse for testing. This is just like the one I'd tested 'ept it's white and with stickers
Note! And again, thanks to Stas and his boss, we were provided with a stickerless car. It was really nice to shoot the exteriors.
We have a similar E today, with a similar multimedia system NTG-5.5, the latest one among the Mercedes Benz MM systems.
A maximally close to this one is the one in a 222.
So this review is going down with the toppest multimedia syste within all the Mercedes brand
First, I'd like to say a couple of words about the handover process. I understand this is a growing trend with producers,
but for me, it's was a first. The guys had this veil shed over it, and once they took it of, we first saw the color.
The handover zone is all covered in moss. It's either too old or too expensive, I guess.
What's noteworthy is that the moss is 100% natural.
Here are some pictures to remind us that Mercedes produce not only cars but also pens,
Watches and lots more. All that is on the display. THey even tried to sell us a pacifier 'cuz we came with a baby
Moreover, there's a regular pacifier and an AMG one.
Since we're here to get into an E, nd since Stas is here, let's answer the most popular comment there's been.
Why would the lights mist over? The car costs over 4.5M, and the lights mist over.
Stas has prepared an argumented answer, by the officials.
He tried to say it quickly, with simple words. He can't do that, really.
I mean, he speaks so articulately and in such a learned way thet you're probably gonna go bananas.
You're very likely to start asking questions about the fance words he uses. I'm gonna put it out simpler.
At the moment, all the cars with LED lights mist over under certain conditions.
When we were shooting that video, it was really cold - far below zero Centigrade, the car'd just been washed,
So a hot car goes out on the cold street. For sure, the water vapor condenced immediately.
And it didn't just sit on the lights.
But unlike halloge lights, the LED ones do not produce as much heat so it didn't evaporate quickly.
That's why the lights would mist over. The same goes down with Range Rovers or BMWs.
I actually googled different forums, and with BMW, they start panicking big time.
It's like, 'I bought a new car and the lights mist over. What's happenng?'
So don't get all citical, like, 'The car costs 4.5M, and the lights mist over!'
It's a real feature, and owners need to be informed of that.
[S]: It's not a feature.
Okay, it's not feature, it's physics. I wanted to say it shorter than Stas would but okay.
But it turned out long, so fine, I'll just edit it later. And now let's get to the Apple CarPlay testing.
Stas is representing the army of -- [Android] -- well, of those green buckets.
There are three devices nd two people participating in today's review.
Device #1 is Mercedes E-klasse, then, there's iPhone 7 Plus, and...
[S]: Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro
Not the longest name for an Android device, huh? I'm not gonna beat Android up much today. Let's get down to biz
Okay, so we have two devices. One's iOS powered, the other one is Android. What's the version? The last I remember was 4.4
[S]: Mine is 7.1
7.1. Okay. This device is better functionwise. It has larger memory, it reads all formats, and you can plug it in your PC no problem
No need in iTunes and that sort of crap. Google has a huge advantage in that respect.
iPhone has a very closed infrastructure but it's more reliable and so on.
Before this gets sideways, let's say we're not gonna go with a compartive smartphone review
We're just gonna compare how these two work together with stock car media systems.
Here, we have NTG-5.5, and it's optional. So you don't get it with every E-klasse. In some, you only get a small screen.
You'll have to pay extra to get this, but trust me, it's worth every penny.
The control. I showed in the E's review. We have a sensor manipulator here, an analogue scroller stick here, and sensor buttons on the wheel, lest and right.
Let's start with sompler stuff. Let's pretend I'm in my new E, I have an iPhone and a cable.
Until recently, Apple CarPlay wouldn't work without a cord. As far as I get, this one's not been upgraded yet.
For that eason, today we're using this iPhone with a cord
To plug it in, I go with my first hunch and look here. No USB slot. Second shot -- yes. They are here. Plus, they're very convenient - with an angle
So you don't need to bend ways in order to see the slots. So we have two. One is USB only, the other one - note the indication - USB and phone.
This pictogram here has a phone so I guess I'm supposed to plug it in here.
Okay. Let's see.
[S]: Note. It says it on the screen.
Yeah, it shows connection on the screen, and a request on the iPhone. Oh, wait. No. It's the charger.
'How would you like to activate Apple CarPlay?' Automatically. I don't ant manual 'cuz I'm clueless with my hands in this respect.
'For use optimization, your iPhone may be sent data - yada yada yada.' Accept and start.
'Apple CarPlay is loading...' And the iPhone shows the CarPlay icon right away.
CarPlay unavailable. Okay, let's start Siri. She's a smart woman. Everything works now.
So ew only face one problem. If Siri is turned off, you can't use CArPlay. I, for one, dont use Siri. I turned it on, and it's alright.
Here we can see all the apps in the Apple CarPlay package. We can't install extra.
If the sys is new, we can only rotate the icons or remove some of the preset ones. No more settings here.
No 'Menu' button, no nothing. We can press 'Home', and nothing's gonna happen. It's for closing an app.
Or hold 'Home' for starting Siri.
I've ben over 'Calls' ans 'Messages' multiple times so I know whats coming next. I go to the latter, and it suggests I write a text.
[Siri]: Who would you like to send message to?
To Stanislav Klyuch Avto. Hi, Stas. I'm on my way. In fact, I'm just testing Siri to see if she can process speech this fast.
How are you? Smiley face. I'll be in 5-10-15-20-25 min approximately. I'll be shocked if it understood this all again and sends to you. Peace.
[Siri]: In fact, I'm just testing Siri to see if she can process speech this fast.
[Siri]: How are you? Smiley face. I'll be in 5-10 hr, 15-20-25 min approximately. I'll be shocked if it understood this all again and sends to you. Peace.
[Siri]: Do you want to send?
Well, here we faced the fact that Siri understands speeh really well. Actually, she failed with the mins, but that was on purpose.
Oh, here ie comes, right?
Okay. Great. But that is not a problem. The problem is with reading messages. I can't read the ones I alerady got.
If I press here, Siri's gonna suggest I write another text.
Only if I receive a new message, Siri's gonna offer to read it.
That's a strike.
[S]: Note that you can only use texts. No Watsapp.
Now Stas is sending me a text, and we'll try and read it.
Okay, I got a text. It's right here, on the screen.
SMS from Stanislav. Okay, so, what do I do now? I press 'Okay'.
Nothing happened. But there was a notification. And I can see the sticker here. So I go there.
[Siri]: Do you want to read the unread messages or to create a new message?
Read.
[Siri]: You have one message from Stanislav Klyuch Avto. Sasha, this is a test text. It's 17:15 Moscow time, let's check how Google detects spoken messages.
[Siri]: Do you want to answer?
Yes
[Siri]: Okay. What do you want to write to Stanislav?
Copy that - comma - thanks.
[Siri]: Send?
Yes.
[Siri]: Done.
Great.
This works perfectly. The phone. that one's great, too. I mean, I think we could find some flaws but not tha I've noticed. I doubt it's major stuff.
Among the flaws I'd mentioned, we cannot watch video, not if still, not in motion. Music only.
This YouTube-like sign is actually not YouTube but just a regular music player.
Maps. Here, we have only Apple maps.
And I don't have a clue 'bout how to use them. Let's try and go with mere intuition.
For zoom, we only have the button, and it's only step by step sort of thing.
I can't hold the button. Gotta press once. But it works fast and all.
I can move. Okay, let's try and find an address. Destinations here.
[Siri]: Where would you like to get?
Mercedes Benz.
[Siri]: I found several options. One of the is Mercedes Benz Center Klyuch Avto. Tell me if you need to call one of those places or build a route.
Can you call there? I can't call.
Siri lied to me.
So guidance works perfectly. Phone works perfectly. Music works perfectly, and the cord eliminates all the Bluetooth related lags.
Maps. I can't say they're bad but people have been complaining. Dunno, but I can tell they're being upgraded.
The only problem with the messages is that I can't read them. This thing is a mystery for me.
'Cuz if you enter Music, and enter 'Playing', you're just gonna see exact same shit.
The only thing is, if you're plating music from an external app, you're gonna need this one.
Mercedes, Podcasts and Sudiobooks are clear but nobody uses these.
This is all still nice, convenient, intuitively understandable but functionwise, it's extremely limited.
Just imagine how powerful it sould've been if you could mirror external apps over to that screen. So much more.
You could've used it as a mirror screen. Would've been nice. Let's see if Stas convinces me Android is better.
We have AndroidAuto here. It's something like a desktop interface ot homescreen kind of thing.
[S]: Yes. The desktop shows sort of the recent stuff, places of interest.
[S]: It shows the last route, home address, the last call - the las one was with you, so here it is.
[S]: So that I can repeat the action quickly.
[S]: Te menu here is on the bottom. In this case, it's navigation, phone, music and Home.
[S]: In general, AndroidAuto can do everything Apple CArPlay can, plus it has a wider range of compatible apps.
[S]: That includes Whatsapp, Telegram, I saw the Facebook Messenger, and I think Skype, too. But I'm not sure about it. Gotta check.
[S]: But I'm sure there's Whatsapp, Telegram. That's for sure. those are messengers that work with Android but not with Apple CarPlay.
Let's draw the mai conclusion here. There are external apps that you install on your smartphone,
and Android can show them on screen. With Apple, you only have the preset apps.
With the maps, you can't use external, too?
[S]: Well, in future it will be available but for now, only Google Maps are supported.
[S]: But anyway, there is a choice option. Here, I go to NAvigation. I choose Google Maps. It's marking our location.
[S]: And here we can go to recent locations. Traffic demo works for sure, we can turn it on and off, no problem.
[S]: We can open a demonstration. And to build a route, we can use the voice control.
Let's take a ride to Loud Sound.
[S]: Okay, Google. Build route to Loud Sound.
[G]: Current traffic is low, the trip with the car [indistinct] will take 6 minutes.
Well, logical. It doesn't know how to pronounce it.
[S]: Yeah, but still it bilds the route...
Yes, it sells it. Now let me try.
I can see you can move it like this. Left and right. The scroller zooms. That's nice.
The guidance... Well, let's not argue. Guidance is better here.
What's up with texts here?
[S]: When a new text arrives, it sure shows it, but there's no menu like the one in Apple CarPlay.
[S]: All the menus we can access are here, in the bottom. It's navigation, phone, music. All we can go.
[S]: But if we get a text or a Whatsapp message, we're gonna see a notification here.
But we won't be able to read it or what?
[S]: We can read it, answer it and then go on. We just can't access the whole log and choose what or who to answer.
So pretty much the same. We're limited.
[S]: Yes, there is a limitation.
This one is 1:1. Or 0:0, dunno.
[S]: Rather 0:0
Guys, this is a huge flaw that I can't access the read messages. Or maybe we're missing something.
Test, test, test, test, test, test, test, test, test, full stop. Full stop. Full stop. I'll troll you anyway. Hey, look, still typing! Ah, you, bitch!
[Siri]: Send the message?
Yes.
[Siri]: Done
Whoop! Now it's Google's turn. Google Who? Does it have a name? That one is Siri, at least.
[G]: The message contents: Te-te-te-te-te-te-te-te-test.
No can do.
Google care about your safety as much as Apple do. Other people don't read your messages with Apple. Well, now neither can they with Android.
Now let's try and play video.
[S]: We cannot play video with AndroidAuto
Can we show an image on the screen?
[S]: You mean like a picture? No, that is not an option either.
[S]: It has navigation, phone, texts and messengers if you have any. You can say your message, it will type it an dsend it.
Stas says there's Whatsapp. With Apple, there's only one messenger. Here, it's optional.
[S]: We can't see it here either. Well, until a message comes.
Okay, we'll send him a message now. Not with Siri but with a regular speech input. Stas hi this is test est Mercedes E 400. See?
Almost correct. W 213. Double U 213 [spellt: down on you 213] It's not really cool with capital letters, huh.
Okay. Let's just see Whatsapp work on - what's this? - on Android.
[G]: Message: [the contents]
Whatsapp - check! Lt's now see how the musical player works here.
No shuffling?
[S]: No.
Apple wins. And now Stas wil show us the apps you can install via AndroidAuto.
[S]: It sends us to Google Play but the items are all sortes by AndeoidAuto.
So mostly messengers, right?
[S]: Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, Skype. Telegram, all the major ones. Here, they even have AOL ICQ.
[S]: Audio players, Audiobook apps. And some time ago, this list was a lot shorter so it keeps growing.
So if you dislike an original app in Android, you can replace it. With Apple, not gonna happen.
Now we gotta answer what's better, AndroidAuto or Apple CarPlay.
So we figured out that we have the same speed, the same limitations -- no video, no read texts. As for graphics, what do you think?
[S]: Apple CarPlay has better graphics, plus it projects to the whole screen while AndroidAuto covers only 2/3 of the screen, and you can see the pixels.
Customizing...
[S]: In customizing, Android is definitely the winner 'cuz it's more up to date i terms of use
[S]: It has messengers, such as Whatsapp, Telegram, Facebook messenger and even Skype.
Now, guidance. I've always known that Google maps were better than Apple ones. Now, the Apple Maps have grown a lot better,
but there is still a big issue with the navigation within the navigation app. Plus, a certain plus for Google, the traffic stats.
My personal conclusion is, sure, Android wins, but I believe there is a ton to work on with both apps
'cuz at the moment I have that feeling that they gave me something but I'm not completely satisfied.
I can't do this, can't do that. Give people the choice. I mean, I get it, they care about safety. But they are posing it upon us, no?
[S]: To be fair, even if you get a text from your bank, you, a driver, might miss it, and car producers care about us in this respect.
[S]: The option to read the text out loud without having it written down is for your safety, so that you don't get distracted from the road.
So this was our review, in a form of a dialog. A lot of reasoning involved.
Two very intelligent people saying very smart things, with the background being a car neither of us can afford.
The stock MM review is in work now. Stas is preparing the materials, and we'll take a look in the showroom. It's so worth seeing.
I might even show you a Tesla. Or even a Maybach. Or even a coupe version of S63 AMG.
Or it might even be a 20M worth Geländewagen. It's all coming up.
If you want to see those cars before the review, here's the person who can show 'em to you, and behind this wall, there are all those 15-20M worth cars.
And Stas takes pictures of them and posts them on Instagram. So if you wanna see some, follow him.
Here's his username. He posts all sorts of stuff. GTE, AMG, Geländewagens, regular cars.
[S]: As I promised, I try to post interesting info about interesting cars.
[S]: There are not only Mercedes and AMG news only. So f you're interested, you're welcome to subscribe.
[S]: I monitor my Insta and update it all the time.
[S]: And the Formula 1 topic is on, too. Don't forget, March is the beginning of Season 2017.

The Untold Truth Of J.K. Rowling - Duration: 11:10.Even if you're one with the Wizarding World and received your invitation to Hogwarts ages
ago, there's a chance you don't know everything about the author who made all that magic happen.
Thanks to Twitter, the reclusive J.K.
Rowling has come out of her shell quite a bit in recent years — but there are still
a lot of common misconceptions about her story.
Here's what you might know about the muggle mom who turned her writing pen into a wand
and cast a spell on the entire world.
Inauspicious start
Any wizard worth their potion already knows that J.K.
Rowling was a depressed, struggling single mother when she first came up with her Harry
Potter novel ideas.
But somehow a rumor developed over the years that Rowling was homeless while she wrote
the popular series, even going as far as saying she lived in her car.
Rowling has put the rumors to rest, saying in a commencement speech given to Harvard
graduates that she was forced to live off state welfare.
And I was jobless, a lone parent, and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless."
According to an interview she did with The New Yorker, Rowling was only in bad living
conditions for a matter of months before a friend helped her get a nicer apartment.
So yes, there's certainly a rags-to-riches story here, but it's not as extreme as many believe.
With her daughter by her side, Rowling would often spend hours in her brother-in-law's
cafe, writing and creating some of our favorite witches and wizards at Hogwarts.
While it was certainly a low point in her life, much of her depression at the time had
to do with the death of her mother, and the end of her marriage to a journalist she met in Portugal.
She has been surprisingly open about this time in her life, even mentioning in several
interviews that her depression actually inspired the series's creepy, soul-sucking, happiness-draining
Dementor characters.
She spoke with ABC News about her thoughts on depression:
"And that's just characterized for me by a numbness, a coldness, and an inability to
believe that you will feel happy again."
And with that inspiration, the series' edgy flirtation with extreme darkness was born.
Generosity of spirit
It's been over a decade since Rowling was named the first billionaire author by Forbes,
but her financial situation has since changed drastically.
No, she isn't broke, and she's not back on welfare.
She's still doing quite well for herself, but in 2012, she was placed on the slightly
insulting Forbes Dropoff List after giving away a lot of her money to charity.
It seems the author has donated over $160 million since making her claim to fame, a
decision that has hardly affected her, other than no longer being considered a billionaire.
One of her biggest charities has been the Lumos Foundation, which strives to protect
children without homes who end up in institutions.
She spoke about her decision to create the foundation in an interview with The Sunday
Times, saying she was largely influenced by a disturbing story they ran in 2004 about
a Czech orphanage that kept children in cages.
Plus, according to the Lumos Foundation's website, most children that end up in orphanages
aren't actually orphans — many have disabilities that their families can't afford to treat.
So Lumos takes donations and works with government programs, and even individual families, to
help them with whatever burdens they might be experiencing, so these kids can stay with
their parents and out of orphanages.
Also, most people don't know that her two short books, Quidditch Through The Ages and
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, were originally written as part of a donation to
the UK anti-poverty charity Comic Relief.
All earnings from book sales went to the charity, making millions for the fundraiser.
So, while Forbes might criticize the famed writer for her drastic drop in wealth by adding
her to their seriously unnecessary "ha ha you're not worth billions anymore" list, she's
still a hundred-millionaire who does her best to make a positive impact on the world.
So that's pretty good.
Missing a moonwalk
Way back in 2010, Rowling made her first appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where she revealed
that the late Michael Jackson had approached her about producing a Harry Potter-themed
musical.
Can you imagine?
Picture watching a Quidditch tournament play out on stage, while the melody to "Beat It"
hums on in the background.
While she didn't give a straight answer as to why she turned down the King of Pop's sort-of
ridiculous proposal, she did mention how she agreed to having Harry Potter World popping
up at Universal's theme parks, because of their thorough and extraordinary proposal.
So perhaps Jackson's presentation was, to borrow one of MJ's iconic phrases, BAD.
Interestingly enough, the Jackson-Rowling connection doesn't start and end there — it
turns out, one of the reasons she chose to avoid zombies when creating the creatures
protecting the locket Horcrux in Half-Blood Prince, was because of Jackson's "Thriller"
video.
She explained on Pottermore that zombies were old news and had been done already, and that
she is "… part of the 'Thriller' generation; to me, a zombie will always mean Michael Jackson
in a bright red bomber jacket."
So, instead of zombies, she created corpses under the control of the Dark Lord, called
Inferi.
It's kinda the same thing, but with much less choreography.
Branching out
After wrapping up the Harry Potter series, Rowling decided to put her career writing
for kids on hold so she could attempt to write her first novel for adults.
The Casual Vacancy was received with some seriously mixed reviews.
The New York Times called it "…not only disappointing — it's dull."
What's more, it's a very adult book, with rape and domestic abuse scenes that Times
critic claimed "… reads like an odd mash-up of a dark soap opera."
But regardless of what critics had to say, the book still managed to fly off shelves
in both the U.K. and the U.S., likely due to Rowling's name being on the cover.
It seems that even the book's poor reviews couldn't put a dent in Rowling's popularity,
and HBO agreed.
A few years after the release of The Casual Vacancy, HBO released a miniseries in Britain
under the same title, knowing that pretty much anything with Rowling's name on it will
bring in a ton of money.
On the other hand...
Pen name pretentious
Fans probably already know that the reason JoAnne Rowling was published under J.K.
Rowling was that her first British publisher asked her to just use her initials when the
first edition of The Philosopher's Stone was released.
They reasoned that the book would only appeal to boys, but that they wouldn't read it if
they knew it was written by a woman.
She explained her choice to Oprah:
"So they said to me, could we use your initials.
I said fine, I only have one initial, I don't have a middle name.
So I took my favorite grandmother's name, Kathleen."
So when Rowling chose to write a crime-fiction series under the name Robert Galbraith, it
wasn't the first time she changed her name so potential readers would think she was a
man.
The Cuckoo's Calling was released with a small number of books printed, and sold just 500
hardcover copies in its first few months in bookstores.
It was reported that some stores were even contemplating sending books back to the publisher
— until the author's true identity was revealed by The Sunday Times.
Immediately after, sales magically skyrocketed, because unpopular literature reads so much
better when someone you like writes it.
Even though Rowling seemed disappointed that her disguise was short lived, it's hard not
to wonder if this information was intentionally leaked to increase sales.
Either way, bad news for actual obscure authors without a billion-dollar real name to fall
back on.
A family reunion
While many view Rowling's life as some sort of fairytale, with the idyllic ending that
brought her love, success, and wealth, there's also a lot of grief and heartache that the
public may not know about.
Rowling didn't have the best relationship with her father growing up, and according
to The New Yorker, she cut off all contact with him in 2003.
More often than not, the novelist has managed to dodge questions regarding the details of
their estrangement, but her father was almost too eager to share what happened.
Well, his side of the story, at least.
Peter Rowling has been rumored to claim that his daughter wouldn't bail out his burger
van business, or assist him in any way when it went out of business.
At first glance, that seems hard to believe, since she's not only loaded, but loves to
give her money away to the less fortunate.
However, it was also reported that, at the time of their estrangement, Peter had put
several first editions of his daughter's books up for sale, all which were gifted to him
— one was even a Father's Day present signed "Lots of love from your first born."
That book alone — which was a first-edition copy of Goblet of Fire — sold for an absurd
$48,000.
Now, understandably, Rowling was irked by the sale, and now you see why "help Pop's burger van"
wasn't high on her to-do list.
Apparently the two made peace in 2012 after nearly a decade of silence, but the reports
seem suspicious, as they're all flooded with quotes from Peter, and Rowling herself has
never commented on it.
Also, her father's claims of reconciliation conveniently popped up after rumors began
circulating that one of the more offensive characters in The Casual Vacancy was based on him.
All in all, it sounds like a cheap attempt at repairing his reputation, but what do we know?
We've never run a burger van.
Take a stand
For a long time, J.K.
Rowling's Twitter feed lay dormant, with the simple message that she was putting pen to
paper and didn't have time to maintain a digital presence.
She's since done a complete 180 on that note and constantly posts about her interests,
from fielding fan questions about her books to championing her hometown football teams
to engaging in heated political debates with celebrities.
She's since made a lot of enemies online — she and controversial YouTube star PewDiePie,
for example, have a shared distaste for one another that they're each all too happy to
talk about.
And she's definitely not a pal to Piers Morgan, whose right-wing leanings have rubbed her
the wrong way and culminated in a pretty epic Twitter battle.
The most surprising bit of fallout from her sudden online availability, though, is with
her own fan-base, many of whom just don't agree with her liberal perspective on world
issues.
Rowling, a consistently harsh critic of US President Donald Trump, has even led some
former fans to destroy their copies of her books and DVDs.
For her part, the negative response has only prompted even more zingers.
She's also become the subject of an internet petition to house Syrian refugees as a result
of her vocal support of their current perils.
The petition, which began after author Mike Cernovich offered to fly in 100 refugees to
her home, in response to her sympathy to them.
Supporters of this idea ran with it and created a petition that challenges the writer to take
in a minimum of 18 refugees for at least eight years.
It goes on to say that her eighteen spare bedrooms should be put to use during this
crisis, and even specifies that she should have to take in at least 14 male refugees,
as roughly 75 percent of current refugees are men.
Given her propensity to give away cash for the greater good, chances are she's pitching
in already by opening her pocketbook instead of her home, though.

How Pelleve and Thermi Work the Same in Generating Collagen, and Other Ways to Improve the Skin - Duration: 10:35.Thank you for your question
You submitted a question without a photo and you state in your question that you had a
Thermi procedure and you didn't see a huge difference but you understand it takes 3 to
4 sessions to see a difference, but at the same time you became aware of course there
was a cost difference between Thermi and Pelleve and you want to know if these are same technologies
or what's the difference.
I can certainly give you some guidance into this type of concern and question that people
have.
A little bit background, I'm Board-certified cosmetic surgeon, and Fellowship-trained oculofacial
plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
I've been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years and I have been part
of this continuous evolution of thermal energy devices for the past 20 plus years, beginning
with the original CO2 lasers back in the early to mid 90s.
So you raise a very very good question and it's certainly actually brings into focus
a broader issue that I certainly have some opinion about.
So to begin with let's understand what Thermi and Pelleve are.
They are both radiofrequency technology devices that induce a certain amount of heat to create
skin changes what is essentially collagen remodeling.
If you actually watch the procedures being demonstrated, they look exactly the same.
And essentially for all intents and purposes, they are the same.
From a scientific perspective they're both handheld devices that apply energy to the
skin through radiofrequency technology to generate heat to a target temperature.
Because the science behind these devices is essentially is the same from the way the heat
is generated and the goal of the tissue response.
There's basically a core concept that when skin is heated up to a certain level, there
is a response the generation something called heat shock proteins and a process of collagen
breakdown and remodeling that results in a favorable response such as the improvement
of fine lines and wrinkles.
Now the challenge is for the consumer is that unfortunately there is a real race between
companies to dominate and create brand awareness rather than educating the public about what
the science is and letting the physician be the person who actually guides you as to what
any of these particular devices can do.
From my perspective as a practicing doctor these devices are tools and the patient comes
to me with a particular problem and I don't have to be locked in just to using one tool.
I can use a combination of approaches.
So in principle you are looking at essentially similar devices doing similar things.
When I look at someone who wants improvement of wrinkles let's say the under eye area
I don't just say ok there is only one device.
Essentially I will combine it with other modalities because typically there a lot of things that
can be improved at the same time.
I always say the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
So it's not unusual to have issues to have pigmentation, issues with the surface of the
skin, issues with volume loss.
So to solve those issues we also include a modality such use of PRP or platelet-rich
plasma.
Platelet-rich plasma is derived from your blood and is used to stimulate collagen and
create this remodeling of skin, without inducing heat.
And one of the things I should point out is although the skin can be heated to a certain
temperature the response of the skin is not consistent between people.
It's like going to the gym, everyone goes to the gym and may do exactly the same workout
but everyone will develop a different degree of muscle growth.
The same thing with skin- multiple factors whether age, ethnicity, tissue type, just
too many factors to really articulate altogether when you don't look at the whole global
picture.
The patient's medical background, their sun exposure history, their smoking history,
there are a lot of things so a lot of times people get really disappointed when they see
a device on television promoted aggressively and it's the next miracle and then they
go have these procedures and they don't get results.
And a lot of times it's because there's basically a commoditization where in many
situations the physician actually isn't involved in the planning of the whole procedure.
The patient comes to a spa of some kind and a non-physician does says okay this is the
device we use for that what kind of package would you like.
I look at things a little bit more globally.
I look at the patient as I said I would consider using platelet-rich plasma, I use possibly
a hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane, to help with tear trough area or I maybe use
neurotoxin, like Botox® to help with fine lines and wrinkles and I put into perspective
for the patient the realistic potential benefits of these devices.
In our practice we have Pelleve and I should disclose that we have Pelleve we don't have
Thermi at this time, we also have a 1064 YAG laser, Q switch laser, fractional CO2 laser,
Erbium laser we have a lot of technology, and so there is no limitation in providing
solutions for our patients and what we don't do just jump on whatever is new and exciting
for that moment because I've seen a lot of hype for devices and really it's more
about the devices and the manufacturer's interest in selling and leasing those devices
to doctors and then within another year or so they are selling or leasing a different
version of device making the previous device obsolete.
So it creates this kind of tension between the patient the consumer and the physician.
But remember if the physician is the one most qualified to give you guidance and give you
a whole plan.
At least I feel that's the role of physician and that's what I do in my practice.
So even though there may be a price difference between the two devices coming from the different
potential of practitioners.
Get a good understanding as to what a good outcome you're looking for and what is realistic
with either device and also understand what your other options are.
But as far as answering the question about the technology and the outcomes these devices
are as far as I am concerned, are pretty much the same.
And although manufacturers will always try to differentiate one from another in ways
that might be significant from a sales point of view, for a physician from a instrument
point of view as a tool I would say that it would be no difference for me which of these
radiofrequency devices I would use to accomplish a particular target heating goal to generate
collagen.
So I think you should actually before you continue doing more packages or looking at
more brands, either seek the attention of the physician you're going to for this device
or this treatment or find a physician who can guide you and have a more global plan,
otherwise you'll be like many people bouncing from one practitioner to another reacting
to these strong messaging for one miracle device to another.
So I hope that was helpful I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your question.

Are Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars Doomed -- And Have Electric Cars Won? - Duration: 7:17.It's a well-known joke in the auto industry that Hydrogen fuel cell cars have been the
cars of tomorrow for about the past thirty years or so, with automakers promising us
the metaphorical hydrogen-shaped moon on a stick but never quite reaching the point where
hydrogen vehicles (be they fuel cell or combustion) actually make it to production in any meaningful
numbers.
Of course, for the last five to ten years, automakers (Honda, Toyota and Hyundai in particular)
have tried to tell us how serious they were about hydrogen, spending hundreds of millions,
sometimes even billions of dollars on new hydrogen vehicle programs.
Except the hydrogen economy we've been promised? The big party for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles?
Well, someone did something bad at the party, and everyone's leaving by the back door.
Will the last one out please turn off the light?
Hello again intrepid YouTubers, It's Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield here from Transport Evolved
and today we're going to be looking at the seemingly inexorable change in direction that
many automakers are making as they turn away from hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles
and focus more on battery electric vehicles as their planned fuel of choice for the future.
See, back in the late noughties, when companies like Tesla were only really starting to gain
mainstream attention and automakers like Nissan and General Motors were only really beginning
to play with plug-in vehicle technology after a decade-long hiatus, car companies were doing
one of four things. First, they were sticking their metaphorical fingers in their metaphorical
ears, screaming "la la la la la" at the top of their metaphorical lungs and hoping
to god that this new found interest in cleaner cars would be replaced with a healthy love
and respect for a roaring V-8.
Or they were plowing money into so-called clean-diesel technology, arguing that diesel
engines were better for the environment and had better fuel economy than petrol engines.
Or a few were cautiously following Tesla into the electric vehicle space, spending money
on developing electric models that could manage just under one hundred miles on a charge,
could refill their battery packs in a reasonable amount of time using a dedicated rapid charging
station, and could function as either a s family's second car or as a primary mode
of transport for those who lived in urban or suburban settings.
And then there were those who, scared by battery electric vehicles, opted to push toward hydrogen
fuel cell technology, hoping that there would be some technological breakthrough that would
lower the purchase cost, increase range, and give hydrogen fuel cell electric cars and
their water-vapor-only tailpipe emissions a far more powerful place in the plug-in marketplace
compared to battery electric cars.
Thanks to continual work on lowering global emissions (not to mention the whole dieselgate
debacle) the first two options aren't really viable any more except for all but the smallest
volume automakers.
The battery electric vehicle option meanwhile has, thanks to improved battery cell chemistry,
advances in production techniques (and a little company called Tesla and its Model S), become
far more viable than it once was, with a new range of plug-in models coming to market that
can literally run rings (or at least lap) the majority of first-generation plug-in cars
of twenty ten thru twenty sixteen.
Which leaves hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Toyota, true to the hydrogen fuel cell from
the very beginning, is now at least producing limited numbers of its Mirai fuel cell sedan
for sale in certain key markets around the world, including parts of California, London,
and parts of Germany as well as its home market in Japan. But with hydrogen fuelling infrastructure
still in its infancy and Toyota hand-making its Mirai fuel cell sedans in limited quantities,
the Mirai is hardly going to change the world. And while Toyota is promising us a second-generation
fuel cell vehicle by the time we get to the twenty twenty tokyo olympics, I'm very doubtful.
How about Honda? Well, Honda as it turns out now has a very competent hydrogen fuel cell
car on sale in the form of the Honda Clarity. In fact, the car is so good that the folks
over at GreenCarReports recently said that it was the first hydrogen fuel cell car they'd
driven that made them forget they were driving a hydrogen fuel cell car.
That said however, the Honda Clarity, like the Mirai, is only available in limited markets.
And even then, Honda is building a plug-in hybrid and plug-in electric variant -- and
is said to be focusing far more on battery electric vehicles than it once was.
Hyundai? Same thing. It has its Tucson FCV, which is limited in sales and volume. And
while it recently unveiled a concept version of a next-gen fuel cell vehicle, last week
it announced its intent to develop an brand-new vehicle platform specifically for long-range
battery electric vehicles.
Which brings us to Daimler. LIke Volkswagen and BMW, Daimler has been developing a hydrogen
fuel cell division alongside its battery electric vehicles, hedging its bets as it were. But
during a German-language automotive summit last week, the company's boss Diete Zetsche
said that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are no-longer part of Daimler's long-term plans.
And that means, despite all those concept cars we've seen over the years, Daimler
(and by proxy its automotive arm Mercedes-Benz) is going for battery electric vehicles instead.
Is there a hope for hydrogen? Well, honestly? No. Battery electric vehicle technology has
advanced so much and refuelling infrastructure is comparably easy to install with less red
tape than hydrogen fuel cell cars. And then there's the matter of where the hydrogen
comes from (most is made by steam-reforming natural gas while an increasing proportion
of grid-based electricity comes from renewables…) which puts it at a disadvantage to battery
electric.
And then there's the cost of actually building the fuel cell stacks… and the efficiency
differences between fuel cell and battery electrics (the latter is more efficient).
For passenger cars then, the prospect isn't good. But for freight? Well that's a different
matter, although for decent power output hydrogen fuel cells need some pretty huge amounts of
cooling…
Is it time to call the hydrogen 'dream' dead? Probably in most of the world, but in
Japan, where hydrogen is getting massive support from the Japanese government, we may see hydrogen
outperform battery electric at some point.
The rest? Solar panels on the roof, a Tesla battery in the garage? It's pretty obvious
which fuel source wins out.

Quick Stitch to Wear Again (Part 1 of 2) - SEWING WITH NANCY - Duration: 26:47.There's a topic that I've completely avoided in the past.
It's generally not fun to sew, but often needed.
Can you guess? Mending.
Zippers that need replacing in a coat or jeans
that require a patch
are often stashed away in a corner and forgotten about.
Rather than taking a conventional approach
to repairs
I'll show you the cheater's way.
First, fool 'em jeans hem.
I'll show you how to shorten a pair of jeans
that keep the original hemline stitching.
You'll be surprised at the results.
"Quick Stitch to Wear Again"
that's what's next on Sewing with Nancy.
Sewing with Nancy
TV's longest-airing sewing and quilting program
with Nancy Zieman is made possible by
Baby Lock, a complete line of sewing
quilting and embroidery machines and sergers.
Baby Lock, for the love of sewing.
Madeira, specializing in embroidery, quilting
and special-effect threads
because creativity is never black and white.
Koala Studios
fine sewing furniture custom built in America.
Clover, making a difference
in sewing, quilting, crafting, and needle arts
for over 30 years.
Amazing Designs and Klassé needles.
Fool 'em jeans hems requires just a little tuck.
A tuck in the fabric so that we can maintain
and keep the topstitching along the lower edge.
Often in jeans, when you cut this off
you can't replicate this stitching.
If you'd like to keep it
I'll show you how to work with it.
When we look at this pair of jeans
that have been already hemmed
you can hardly see where the seam has been stitched.
It's tucked underneath.
There you can see the little tuck that I created.
I finished the edges.
It's kind of a fooling-type of hem treatment.
These are not difficult.
These are simple treatments.
This technique works best for straight-legged jeans.
If your jeans have a flair or are tapered
it's not going to be one of your options
but I'll have another solution for that.
Determine how much you'd like to shorten your pants--
your jeans, I should say--
and then divide that number by two.
So, if you needed to shorten them by 1-1/2"
I'm going to set my gauge at 3/4".
I'll do it this way for you, 3/4".
Then, measure 3/4" from the hem.
Sometimes, I like to go just a little bit beyond it.
Not quite butted up against it, but just beyond it.
Mark the 3/4".
I think you can kind of see what's going to happen next.
You just keep marking all the way around.
After you've done both pant legs
and done the measurement, then pin along that marking.
I have that done on this pair.
I've pinned it up.
Set your machine, if you can
for a free arm.
Remove the housing around the machine
so that you can take advantage
of slipping the cuff of your jeans in this area.
It will just rotate
and move right around this free-arm section.
I have a zipper foot on the machine.
Now, the zipper foot will obviously make it easier
for you to stitch next to the fold.
Now, I mentioned earlier that you don't want to stitch
right next to that fold
you want to go just a touch away.
That zipper foot also helps you do that.
I may want to go one stitch or two stitches closer
so I'm just going to move that needle.
You might want to set your machine at a basting stitch
and sew a couple stitches just to test
where you're going to have the stitch, and then sew.
You don't need any special thread.
You can have a speedy sewing here--
Special thread, and just sew around the edge.
Just guide the edge of the zipper foot along this area.
Now, we're getting to bulk.
This is what you're going to have to contend with a lot
when working with jeans.
If I would start to sew up this area
it might take more stitches per inch.
You can see the angle of the foot.
You can use a notion that helps level off the foot.
You put this behind your foot.
Lower the presser foot.
You can see now it's level.
Level to go.
Then, it will just go down.
It fell off, because it's level.
You'll keep on going down.
Just keep stitching along this edge,
going around.
You could hem or shorten a whole bunch of jeans
in about ten minutes a piece.
Now, I'm getting to the other bulk.
You'd use this technique
for a lot of fixing of these types of jeans.
You can see, I can't really climb that mountain very well
so I'll lift up that presser foot
put this little notion behind here.
You could also just wad up some fabric
place it behind, and sew over it.
It works so much better.
After getting all the way around,
which I'm reaching my starting destination
I'll clip the threads.
You could trim off the excess fabric
and then zigzag over this edge.
But when it's pressed, ta-dah, it's shortened
and you can hardly see that it has been shortened.
A beginner can do this.
An experienced person can do this.
It's just the fool 'em jeans hem.
When tapered or flared jeans must be shortened
another fix-it approach is needed.
Usually, it's tricky to sew over the fixed seams.
Not so with the no-bumps jeans hem approach.
No steamroller needed, just a "Quick Stitch" tip.
The last technique that I worked with
the jeans had straight legs.
In this instance, they're more flared.
If we tuck up this large amount
you'd see that the cuff would go way beyond the pants
and it would be hard to kind of ease that in, or take it in.
It's not worth it.
So here's another quick fix approach.
We've cut the pants, leaving an inch hem.
You can see the mark of the hem.
The first thing I do
after doing that marking us some pressing
just press up the hem.
Like working with the free arm of your sewing arm
if you can use a pressing tool
that you can easily press around the edge
that works out well.
Just press up that one inch.
This bulk of the seam
this is where it gets really thick to do the topstitching.
The tip is going to be kind of fun to see.
You'd do this all the way around.
Now, the next step is to do some trimming
or clipping, I should say, at each of the seams.
At each of the hems
you're going to clip half the amount, to about 1/2".
Let me clip it this way.
Clip on either side of the bulk.
Notice how this sticks up.
I'll clip and then clip next to the fold
so that the bulky amount is extending above.
Now we're going to do a double fold.
Fold under 1/2", and then another 1/2" at the hemline.
There we go.
Then do the pinning.
When you pin this under
the little tab at the seam will be extended
right like this, on both sides.
You're going to pin all the way around, a double 1/2"
except this has the full inch.
Now, if you want to match your thread
to the topstitching that's in your jeans
work with all-purpose thread in the bobbin and top.
Here's a close-up of the stitching.
As I'm sewing, around the pant leg
along the fold
when I get to the bump, it's not as exaggerated,
because I'm just going over four layers of fabric
instead of six.
So, you just keep on keeping on
and just stitch around that area.
If you'd like to back track
backstitch in the hem area, you could.
But it's probably not that necessary.
On this pant leg, you'll see that I've done the stitching
in that matching thread.
It just kind of matches the topstitching of the jeans.
Then, clip off the extra.
In jeans in particular
it's very dense fabric, densely woven.
It's been washed a lot
so that's really not going to ravel.
It's just flush.
No one will be the wiser,
and it was a lot easier for you to sew.
The pants that we have hemmed using this technique
we didn't choose a topstitching thread
that was in the seam
but chose a topstitching thread
that was used in the embellishment.
You can see the simple stitching around the edges.
It's flat. It's crisp.
They're shortened
and they're shortened without a bump.
When pants or jeans fit around your hips but gape at the waist
you can snug up the waist without a second thought.
Grab a seam ripper or scissors and some elastic
and I'll show you how to create a snug fit in mere minutes.
In our series on "Quick Stitch to Wear Again"
we're not going use the conventional way
of doing fitting techniques, or mending, or patching
because on this particular pair of pants
for this little girl, the waist was just too large
so we added elastic in the back.
The elastic is added just by cutting the inner waistband
and threading some elastic through.
I'll show you the process.
You don't want to spend a lot of time on fixing things.
You'd rather spend time on creating things!
So that's why we're going to take this easy approach.
I know I'm going to get letters
saying that maybe this wasn't the right way.
But this is the easy way.
On the pair of pants, in the back area
measure in approximately an inch
from the side seams
so you don't have to detail or be concerned with
or avoid, the bulk of the seam.
Then, separate the waistband, the front and back.
You just pinch it so that you have the inner band.
Make about an inch cut through this opening.
On some pants, it may be raveling a lot.
If that happens-- and jeans maybe not as much--
but I would recommend at this point
to put a drop of a seam sealant.
I'm not going to let it dry
so just make believe I've put some seam sealant
around that opening.
I need it a little bit wider for my elastic.
I'll give it one more little snip.
There we go.
You can see on the other side
that we've already cut this, sealed it, and let it dry so
that it's not going to ravel at this point.
Don't cut the elastic to the length that you'd like.
Just take an extra long length or piece of elastic
about an inch wide or 1-3/4".
You can kind of make sure
it's not going to pull through that back waistline
as you're putting it in.
You can put a clamp at the end of it
an elastic clamp.
Or you could maybe even sew a piece of fabric
a larger piece of fabric to the end
which I've done in the past.
You'd take that off after you've done the stitching.
Then use some type of tool
to glide the elastic through the opening.
Some people like to use safety pins.
They sometimes pull out easier.
We're just going to start to pull this through.
Through the back.
It comes out, which you can kind of see very easily.
Now, here's where I like to do this in two steps.
I'm going to pull this just a touch
leaving about 1/2" or so, and then do some zigzags.
Set your machine at a zigzag stitch,
and sew through all the layers.
I'm using a contrasting thread color.
Just sew one side.
Cut your threads and then do some trimming.
Trim off that elastic.
Then you can sew the other side.
Just cover that up, and sew the other side of the elastic.
Then try on the pants.
Have the person that you're fixing this for try it on
and pull it to the right length.
It's best to do, at this point--
Snug it up.
Again, sew one side of the elastic
trim it off, then sew the other side
and you have a snug fit around the waistline
making it maybe an inch or so smaller
maybe up to two inches.
You've securely stitched the elastic into place.
Two rows of stitching on each side.
Well go back to the original
and it's been completely stitched.
We did it in some highlights with pink.
But wow, what a fast way of making it fit
and a quick fix, at that.
Sew True!
You'll never see zippers the same way!
The cover-up is exposed!
Okay, we're having a little fun
with the topic that can be rather dry.
The cover-up zipper technique
replacing zippers in jeans and pants is truly sensational.
Don't look for the latest edition of "Sew True"
at the grocery check-out, just stay tuned.
When working on this program
and trying to figure out ways to do simple fixes
for difficult areas, this technique kind of evolved.
I was amazed how it turned out,
because the zipper was broken in these pair of jeans
and we replaced it
by covering up the old zipper area.
It took about 20 minutes to do.
We never had to take out the seams
or the area below the end of the zipper.
It's really quite amazing how it goes in.
The first step is to buy a jeans zipper
that's just a little bit longer than the opening that you have.
So, you can make it a little bit longer.
Buy it longer.
Then we're going to add some double-sided tape to the zipper.
This really is the way to go
because it helps "pin" it into place
without using a lot of pins
or any pins, as far as that goes.
On your right side of the zipper
I've added a little tape
a strip at the top of the zipper tape.
A lot of tapes here.
This is the double-sided tape.
This is the zipper tape.
Fold down the zipper tape end.
Then add double-sided basting tape
over the fabric part of the zipper.
I think that might be the better way to differentiate.
I'll just call it the fabric part.
You can see it's not really straight, the tape isn't.
This is 3/8" wide, so we just cut it in half
because the 3/8" would've been too wide.
Then flip this zipper over to the other side.
On the underside, tape down the fabric part of the zipper
and add another strip.
So, you have it ready to position into your pants.
Many times, when you have a zipper that's broken in jeans
maybe some teeth are worn out or the top area is broken.
Well, we can cut it out
and not open any seams.
I start with the overlay side.
With this overlay side
if you have zipper teeth that go up into the seam
you're going to have to use a needle nose pliers
or zipper clamp here, just to cut off the zipper teeth
just to get it going.
There we go, you can hear that clip.
It's so you can use your scissors accurately
so you don't have to worry
about cutting the teeth of the zipper.
Now, here's the trick.
You're going to be trimming next to the stitching.
Then, the zipper fabric will ravel away.
Clip over to the next stitching.
This maintains the topstitching of the zipper.
It's kind of there as a facade.
It's not really holding anything in place.
You just trim this away and ravel
it's completely raveled away.
This takes the longest part.
On the pair of jeans that are underneath
I've raveled out that complete zipper
that underlay.
Now, you might also need to go into the zipper and clip.
There's usually a bartack
holding these two areas together.
Just clip that apart so it's nice and open.
Then cut away right next to the fold
the other half of the zipper
and your zipper is removed.
How about that?
Now the tape comes into play.
I'll cut it out at the end, there we go.
Now we're going to start by placing the top of the zipper
over the stitching.
You can place it over here
just audition it first, the overlay side.
It's going to line up.
Remove this section, remove the tape
and then line it up, so it's centering that stitching.
Place the zipper down, just get it down into place.
Here's a close-up of stitching this.
Stitch from the top of the zipper.
Bartack at the top
and stitch down the middle of the fabric of the zipper
the zipper tape, so right down the middle.
And it's in, one half of it is in.
Use thread that matches your jeans
so that you maintain the thread color that you can see here.
Now, on the opposite side
you can do just about the same thing.
This zipper has been inserted.
Button the pants, and see where he zipper tape falls.
It falls right here, put a pin in place.
Then, remove the double-sided tape cover
and start.
You can open this up, that'll help.
We can then position the zipper right where it belongs.
Again, here's a close-up
of stitching from the top.
Bartack it down and stitch all the way until you can.
Sometimes you can't stitch the whole length.
It's okay.
Here is our zipper.
It has been stitched down
and then I restitched the bartack
just to hold the two pieces together.
There were two rows of stitching:
on the overlay side, on the underlay side.
And it covered up the original zipper area
and it was easy.
Over ten years go, my Nancy's Corner guest
received an impassioned email asking for volunteers
to teach quilting to women in Mongolia
who needed a skill in order to support their families.
Most of us would've deleted the email without a thought.
Not Maggie Ball, who traveled, taught
and continues to mentor Mongolian women
piecing together a better future.
Maggie joins us via Skype
from Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Welcome back to Sewing with Nancy.
Thank you, Nancy, I'm delighted to be here
to give you an update.
It was 2004 when you made your first trip to Mongolia
and you helped the women learn a quilting skill.
Give us a little brief history about that trip.
The women were starting from scratch
and so I taught them really basic techniques
using scraps that we had available.
I also taught them
how to piece a traditional Mongolian symbol, the ulzii
which we put on tote bags.
The women were able to sell these.
The ulzii brings long life and prosperity.
It's all over the place in Mongolia.
Then, after they learned this basic ulzii appliqué
more teachers went to Mongolia,
and more techniques were advanced.
Explain the process
the evolution of their learning skills.
Yes, well, I've been four times now.
But several other teachers have gone there.
The women take whatever skills they learn
and have this ability to adapt
and to apply it to their own culture.
So now the development over the last ten years
has been fantastic to see.
We recently had a quilt show in Mongolia this summer
and it's just been fantastic
to see these wonderful horse quilts
that they're making from silk, and also Mongolian scenes.
They have developed their products, as well
so they have a whole variety of things to sell.
They're using locally available silk
which they get remnants from the clothing industry
so it's a great way to recycle those pieces.
They're just making these gorgeous bags
all kinds of items, and art quilts in different forms.
In 2004, there wasn't a retail establishment
where people could sell their works of art.
You helped fund that.
And so have people buying their products
they've done the same.
Yes, and we had a capital campaign
and raised money to buy them a center.
This was hosted by my church
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church
which is our base in the United States.
All the money goes back to the Mongolian women
so we were able to have a capital campaign
and raise $82,000
and purchased a center for them in 2008
so they have a shop
a classroom, and a small office in that center.
It's in a good location close to town
so the women can get there
to come to take classes
and also the tourists can get there.
In addition, they sell their products
in other locations in the city.
Well, so many of these women are suffering from unemployment
or not necessarily the best circumstances at home
and you've helped over 2,000 women through that center
is that correct?
Yes, they have taught that many women.
They are able to teach for the government
to teach unemployed women.
Many organizations have funded them
to go into the countryside to teach
and also out to the one district which is a shanty town of yurts
on the outskirts of town.
So from just starting from Selenge Tserendash's vision
of creating this center, we started with nothing
and now there are five part-time teachers
three seamstresses, a manager, three designers
and as many as 30 women doing piecework at home.
So, it's really making a big economic difference
for these women.
And all because you answered an email
inviting you to come to Mongolia.
It's impressive.
Yes, I never realized how this would develop
and I feel like I have a Mongolian family.
I applaud Selenge Tserendash, whose perseverance
and tenacity has made all this happen.
I want to continue to support her as much as possible.
Maggie, I'm going to invite you back
after you go back to Mongolia and get more photos
and see the progression from the tote bags
to these beautiful wall hangings.
It's amazing.
Thank you for joining us.
You're very welcome.

2017 Lamborghini Aventador S Review | Phillip Island Launch - Duration: 3:14.Many of us had a poster of a supercar on our bedroom wall at some point during our childhood.
And for most people it was a V12-powered Lamborghini.
But what does that poster look like for the younger generations?
Do they really aspire for the latest generation of hybrid and electric cars?
I'm not so convinced.
Lucky Lamborghini still does a V12-powered supercar.
And it has just been tweaked.
This is the Aventador S.
Lamborghini has effectively given the establishment a swift Italian backhand with the Aventador
S, by forgoing any modern hybrid or electric technology in favour of internal combustion
muscle.
But, make no mistake, this new model remains an out and out technological force.
Fitted with four-wheel steering, better aero efficiency, and supposedly more feeling at
the limit than its predecessor.
And, at $789 000 before it's expensive options list, it has the price tag to match.
Now, the Aventador has stayed largely unchanged since its introduction in 2011.
But that doesn't mean you'd overlook any of the changes for the 2017 update.
This thing now has 544 kilowatts of power, and 690 Newton meters of torque.
Those numbers help the Aventador to accelerate to 100 Ks in just 2.9 seconds.
Onwards to 200 Ks in 8,8 seconds.
And help it reach a top speed ceiling of 350 kilometres per hour.
Very impressive numbers indeed.
The delivery of all that power is pretty brutal.
It's almost like someone's sitting behind you with a sledgehammer ready to nudge you
in the back.
The sound and the power from this V12 engine is just amazing.
This thing reaches peak power at 8 400 rpm, just shy of the cut-out at 8 500.
So, you can imagine, she likes to sing.
Less impressive is the Aventador's automatic transmission.
Lamborghini has persisted with its clunky, independent shift rod gearbox.
And, not surprisingly, it yields mixed results.
The Aventador has an older style, independent shift rod transmission.
So, it's basically like a robotised manual.
And, to be frank, it's a little bit bullish.
It just smashes you in the back between gear changes.
It isn't anywhere near as intuitive as newer style dual-clutch transmissions.
While our time at the wheel was limited by time and conditions, it is evident that Lamborghini
has completed its objective.
Turning what was a slightly unwieldy beast into a formidable track weapon.
And while the Aventador S isn't perfect, it remains one of the most enjoyable and satisfying
supercars to drive on track, even if it isn't the most cutting edge.
Well there's no doubt about it, even after just a handful of laps here at a wet Phillip
Island Circuit, it's evident that the Aventador S is much more useable than before.
And while it might not be the first choice for performance enthusiasts, I think this
thing still stands up as an icon of its own.
Especially with that V12 engine.
If I had my choice, it would still be the poster that I'd have on the bedroom wall.

Ascension toolkit #1 - Duration: 3:19.Ascension Toolkit #1 Breathing
No, not like that. That isnt breathing. Thats just the autonomous nervous system
ticking over in low gear while youre stuck in the traffic jam of life.
BREATHE.
Thats more like it. More deeply filling up your lungs and fully exhaling. Most importantly,
your awareness is on your breath. You can feel the life-giving air flowing in and out
of your body. You are no longer breathing autonomously. You are using the #1 tool in
the Ascension toolbox.
Why is breathing so important?
Apart from the obvious, that is that airy stuff coming in and out.
When you place your awareness on your breath, your breathing ceases to be unconscious and
becomes conscious. With that simple act you cross a magical threshold. You leave the realm
of the individual and enter that of the cosmic.
Heres a little experiment. Immerse yourself in something extremely mental, something that
requires all your intelligence to make sense out of. Then try to place your awareness on
your breath. Can you keep your mind fully engaged and at the same time follow your breath
as it softly glides in and out of your body?
Are you out of your mind yet?
Conscious breathing is a great Ascension tool precisely because it takes you out of your
mind. If you have got any distance down the Ascension superhighway, you will know this
is a desirable place to beparticularly if you suffer from stress, anxiety or panic
attacks.
Whenever we feel under stress it is because our unconsciousness experiences a fear of
some kind of shortage. It might be a shortage of money, food, water, security, love or even
life itself. Our unconscious screams, Do something about this NOW! and we experience
this silent scream as stress, anxiety and panic that bounces around our minds like juggling
chainsaws.
Conscious breathing connects you to the cosmos. The cosmos is abundant. Always. The universe
always has enough of whatever it is your unconscious is stressed about. Feel it. As you consciously
breathe, relax and feel the cosmos. It knows youre there. It brings you all the air
you can ever breathe.
Breathe.
Thats it. You are an integral part of the universe. Relax.
Breathe.

The Untold Truth Of Stacy London - Duration: 5:06.From the time Stacy London burst onto the public scene with her 2002 debut in TLC's
What Not to Wear, she has spoken openly about her experiences in the fashion world. Her
no-nonsense, edgy humor made her an instant star on the show, and the good news is she
wasn't faking it. There's a very real person with a lot of depth behind all that style
imagination. Let's take a look at some of the lesser-known facts about Stacy London.
Her signature silver streak
One of London's signature looks is the silver streak of hair that frames her face. What
people might not know about the natural highlight is that she's had it since she was a kid.
When she was six years old, London was diagnosed with psoriasis, an autoimmune disease that
can cause a rough, scaly rash anywhere on a person's skin. Then, when she was 11, she
dealt with repeated bouts of strep throat that wound up sending her psoriasis into overdrive.
She woke up one day completely covered in red scales, and spent the next two years dealing
with cracked, scaly skin and full-body rashes that even covered her scalp.
"Growing up I felt ashamed. I felt embarrassed. I felt afraid."
To treat the rash on her scalp, she had to cover it with tar every night, which her mother
would then scrub off with boric acid each morning. She eventually got so tired of this
that she shaved off her long dark hair and opted for a crew cut — and although it made
the tar and boric acid treatments easier, London wrote in her 2012 book, The Truth About
Style, that the haircut "didn't just make me feel less girly — it made me feel less
human."
She eventually found a topical steroid that cleared up the psoriasis, and when her hair
grew back, the silver streak emerged, and she's run with it ever since, calling it a
"badge of honor."
Body image issues
When contestants on What Not to Wear were facing their own struggles with weight and
not feeling comfortable in their own skin, London could relate. After the misery of her
experience with psoriasis — during which time she was relentlessly bullied by the kids
at her school — London developed body dysmorphia, which she's struggled with ever since. During
her youth, for a long time she didn't want to look at herself in the mirror,
London admits that when she does look at her reflection, what she sees is not necessarily
reality.
The reality show alum has battled anorexia, which left her hospitalized in her 20s. Her
weight eventually stabilized, but she struggled again when she quit smoking in 2008, gaining
15 pounds in three months. This strained the show's resources: since the budget didn't
allow for a new wardrobe, she had to fit into the clothes she had. She explained her feelings
to the Washington Post, saying, "It affected me. I was very moody, embarrassed and disappointed
in myself."
Smarts to spare
London's whip-smart quickness on camera are thanks in part to her impressive academic
credentials: In addition to her incisive fashion advice, London graduated Phi Beta Kappa from
Vassar College in upstate New York with a degree in philosophy and German literature.
She credits her father with the decision to study something apart from fashion, even though
that was her desired field, saying, "My father gave me great advice, he told me, 'You should
go to college and study what you love. You should study something that teaches you lifelong
skills, like how to write, read, and think critically. You can take that and do anything
with it.'"
Indeed, shortly after college she lan ded a job at Vogue and became climbing the ladder
from there. She went on to become a senior fashion editor at Mademoiselle magazine but
four years into her dream job, a new editor-in-chief came in and gave London the boot. While London
was understandably disappointed with being let go, she has said that she was glad to
have experienced the blow because it taught her how to really pull herself back up.
"If you can see yourself in a new way, then you can believe yourself in a new way"
TV as a happy accident
Although London is a natural fit for a TV role, it's not something she ever set out
to do. After leaving Mademoiselle, London was working as a freelance stylist when her
agent called and said that there was a small screen stylist opportunity, and she might
be a good fit. She did four screen tests over the course of eight months, but with the high
level of competition at play for the job, she was sure she wouldn't be the one to land
the role.
She was on vacation in Spain with her family when her agent called and told her that she
was one of 27 finalists who were asked to come in for a fifth screen test — and she
almost didn't go. She remembered, "I said 'What do you mean? If they want me, I've done
all these screen tests, why do I have to do another one? I'm not leaving Spain.' I hung
up the phone and my stepmother said 'We're putting you on a plane tomorrow, and you're
going to do the screen test and it's going to change your life.'"
As it turns out, those were wise — and very true — words from her stepmom.
Commentary cut-downs
Although What Not to Wear proved to be her biggest career break, it came with its own
struggles. London detailed the downsides of having a public profile in an article for
Refinery29, writing, "When I started What Not to Wear, people hated me. They said I
was a bitch, that I had no right to tear people down, and who in the hell did I think I was
in the first place."
She eventually explained that any criticism she offered guests of the show was simply
part of the routine — "to help break down their blind spots and build them back up with
a sense of self-esteem they deserved."
Of course, there were some times she was a bit nicer about it than others.
"We're gonna trash all this crap."
Style change
While she was on What Not to Wear, London wore lots of dresses and pencil skirts — and
while she looked indisputably fabulous, those clothes aren't really her jam anymore. After
the show ended, she was ready to say goodbye to the floral pencil skirt and stilettos aesthetic
once and for all, telling The Huffington Post, "It's not like I don't love a stiletto, but
hey, I had hamstring surgery, I'm 45, you know, some things have to change."
Now that she's able to make more of her own style choices, she's been much more drawn
to suits, leather, and pants than to the girly outfits featured on the show. She thinks people
might be surprised by some of the things she's sporting around town without the cameras in
tow. Hey, as the show so often promoted, it's never too late for a style change!
