Today I'm going to be talking about Jeffree Star's makeup. I
finally got my hands on some of Jeffree Stars' products, and I ordered them this
week from the United States and I was very happy to see them arrive. I was also
happy to be able to find a company that I could order through that didn't charge
shipping, because obviously when you're buying stuff from Canada that was one of
the things that kept me from buying Jeffree Star's products in the past was
the shipping cost. But I found a way to get it at a really good price and that
made me happy. And also the other thing that has held me back from buying any of
Jeffree Star's products - let's get this away right off the bat - is some of the
comments that he's made in the past that have been extremely offensive and I
made a video of - gosh about a year ago - where I talked about Jeffrey Star and
Kat Von D, some of the arguments they had between them - and one of the things I
mentioned in that video was that even though I really like that Jeffree Star's
products are vegan, I really couldn't buy his products in good conscience,
considering some of the really awful racist things he'd said in the past. They
were really offensive and I'm not going to repeat them here, because what Jeffrey
Stern has done if he's taken down those videos and he has apologized I think
very unreservedly, and I was very satisfied with his apology. I realize
that some people aren't - I mean, I'm not the person that he offended necessarily
with those comments they weren't directed towards me. Last month he made
an apology video where he explains that he was extremely sorry for what he had
said, he was completely wrong in what he said, he apologized utterly unreservedly
and he did include a bit of a discussion of his past, which some people saw as
him making excuses for his behavior, but I didn't really think so. I think what he
was just explaining was the reason he was such a hateful person. He wasn't
saying it was excusable that he was that hateful, but he was explaining why he was
that way. I actually found that kind of helpful, because if he had just made
those comments just because that's the kind of person he is, that would really
mean that he's sociopath, and that's obviously very
disturbing. I thought that his explanation was decent and I really
appreciated his unreserved apology. It was a great video you should check it
out. I'll put a link to it here. If you're someone who's held out on buying Jeffery
stars products for the same reason that I did. Now, after he made the apology
video I was super excited, I cannot lie. Because I wanted to try Jeffery stars
products for a while. They're only available through his own company and
through a few other websites - he has a couple of a couple of websites that you
can buy from - I bought from Beautylish, because here in Canada we pay a lot of
money for...if I was to buy directly from Jeffree Star, there was some higher
cost for shipping and things like that. With Beautylish, I think if you spent
$35 US, you got free shipping, and the taxes were really low. I paid just
exactly the taxes I would pay here in Canada. It was extremely reasonable and
yeah, if you're a Canadian customer go through Beautylish. If you're an
American customer, it's probably better to order directly from Jeffree Star's
website. So I ordered three products from Jeffree Star. I think these are the most
iconic products from his line, they're the things he sells the most of, and I
thought they were decent to give you guys a little bit of an idea of what his
products are like. So I ordered the velour lip scrub in the flavor orange
soda. I ordered the skin frost in the shade
ice-cold now the skin frost is his highlighter, which is extremely bright
and poppy. That's really well - a product he's really well known for.
And the final thing that I bought was the velour liquid lipstick and this is
his long last lipstick that is very comparable to Kat Von D's everlasting
lipstick. Now the products arrived in a box like this from Beautylish..um
well, this is the box. They arrived in this box and they were wrapped mostly in paper, so if
you're interested in zero-waste and everything, obviously ordering any
products from another country isn't usually going to be completely zero
waste, but this one was almost entirely zero waste except for one product and
that was the skin frost. Now, the Skin Frost comes in a cardboard box like this,
but because they've had a lot of complaints about breakage, it was wrapped
in a little bit of extra bubble wrap so that
the only thing that was not recyclable in the package. But everything else was. I
was pretty impressed. Like all the cardboard packaging is cardboard there
was no plastic inside, and and then it came in this like cool little if you
guys can see is this is the paper that it was wrapped in - all of it is paper
that is recyclable there was some some brown paper as well but all recyclable
paper. I think there were a couple small pieces of tape but that was it. So I was
impressed with the packaging. Light on the packaging, but substantial enough
that it wasn't going to get broken. I really like the paper because it's
actually - if you look at it and you know Jeffree Star, you'll notice that these are
his tattoos that are kind of on it, so I thought that was cool. Beautylish
clearly does a good job packaging his product, even though it's not coming
directly from Jeffree Star. I thought that was kind of interesting.
Now for the products! The first thing that I want to talk about is the skin
frost. I bought this in the shade ice cold, which is known to be a pretty basic
highlighter. It is pretty stunning and shockingly bright as you can see I put
quite a bit on because I wanted you guys to be able to see what it looks like on,
but it is quite a highlighter so if you're looking for something extremely
subtle I bought this to replace - I used Narses albatross in the past before I
went vegan, that is an amazing highlighter it is not vegan I'm not even
sure if NARS is cruelty free. I think they may be cruelty free, but definitely
not vegan, and the Albatross product it was really it was really beautiful, but I
just - you know obviously wasn't going to be buying it, because it's not vegan cruelty
free. So I wanted to find an alternative that was better,
and so I was really happy to find this one, and it's exactly what I was looking
for. It is slightly less gold than albatross. Albatross is a little bit more
gold, and you'll see this is the packaging one thing that I really do
love is that this was $29 US, and the albatross was - well I usually pay about
like 38 Canadian, so maybe about the same price
but there is three times as much product in this compact. So there's, I think five
grams in the in the NARS product and there's 15 in this one. So it's got a
nice mirror there - I hope I'm not blinding you guys - and then
blinding highlighter - you can see it - this is just I've already used it and
I'm using it on my face today but you can see it's got a nice bit of color.
there it's definitely Let me see, swatch it there - it's
definitely got plenty of color. It's..and it's not particularly um it has a really
nice texture. I found that it applied really well on I think this is can make
hands are dirty right now so it's clumping up a little bit more but it's
good it's got nice nice glitter to it you can see you get quite a bit of
pigment just from a quick swatch on on the contact so it's it is powerful stuff
you wouldn't want to overdo it or you'd look really crazy. I probably do right
now, 'cause I really went wild: I did it on under my brow over my brow, on the
my cheekbone, on the nose, on the lip, a little bit there - like I went pretty
crazy. But it was fun. So this is really awesome. And you can see from the color -
um, if you're used to albatross because that's a really popular highlighter and
I think it's one of the best non cruelty free - so cruelty? I don't know how you'd
call that, but anyway it's not cruelty free but it is a really great
highlighter and I found this one to be just the texture I was looking for that
I found mimics the NARS one better than some of the other products that I've
used. I like this better. I've been using Becca in the past. Becca is cruelty free,
and the shade that I was using with vegan. Becca is great, it's a slightly
more natural finish - and I do like that more more strong, poppy look, so - and you
can either go as light or as dark as you want. You could use this much more subtly
if you want to. I like the blinding look. It's just fun. If I'm going to wear a
highlighter, I might as well really be out there. but you could obviously put
way less on if you wanted to do that. But, really great product, tons of it. I think
this is going to last me a long time usually the Albatross would last me
about a year, so I'm assuming this a lot longer than that. And yes, I know you're
not supposed to keep products forever but at least this product will last a
long time I can use it without having to worry about running out of it and it's a
good deal. The other products that I ordered was this velour lip scrub, and I
ordered it in the flavor orange soda, and I found oh my gosh I I think this is in
some ways - no I would say this is my favorite of all three products. Even
though um I like them all actually (spoiler alert) but I like this one quite
a bit because for one thing so this is $12 and you're getting let's see one
ounce of product in this for a lip scrub. So this is this is a good deal. I
mean it's a nice lip scrub, it's good quality. It's just sugar and vegetable
glycerin with some flavoring, and um oh my goodness! It smells divine!
It is like um when I was a kid I really liked those orange slice candies. You know,
the ones that are gummy? That are- I think a definitely non vegan variety of
gummies. But they're those orange slices that are covered in sugar. It was, like,
my favorite candy as a kid. And I loved candy - but um this just reminds - it smells
exactly like it - like those little like if you to open up one of those cheap
bags of orange slices - it smells the same way. So if you're someone who loves
candy you're gonna love this. It's just really nice. I like um makeup that
smells like food. If it's going to have a scent, it should be like food in my
opinion. And like, a sweet food. I don't like things that smell like perfume.
My mom used to buy Estee Lauder lipstick - I couldn't stand it. And you guys will
probably know if you've ever used Estee Lauder products they just have a very
perfumey smell. I don't like that in lipstick and things like that. And so,
unless it's kind of like a food smell, I don't want to smell it. But this one
smells good. This is like, yummy. And you just rub it
on your lips - it is great and I used it today before I put on the ultimate
lipstick and I did the same thing yesterday. Yesterday was the first day
that I tried these products, and I was really happy. The lipstick lasted
much better than it normally does, because I don't I don't usually use the
lip scrub. I used to just use my...I have one of those washcloths from Sephora that's
supposed to remove all your makeup. I use that on my lips, and if you don't want to
use a product that works really well. But I found that this was nice and just
kind of moisturize my lips a little bit more, and I think to be fair, in terms of
the lipstick, I was really pleased with the way this lipstick applied. This is
the lipstick - this is the - in the shade "I'm shook" velour liquid lipstick. And
it's just it's a nice little it feels nice in your hand is a nice nice
packaging. Um ,it's a little fatter than the Kat Von D - I'm not sure how much
product there is in here - I'm assuming it's about the same. But the big
difference I found was that this one was a little more sheer. It was a bit more
sheer it seems to last better than the Kat Von D, and it feels nicer on your
mouth. But in fairness, I did use that lip scrub
first, so maybe the reason why it feels so nice on my mouth is partially because
of that lip scrub. So I'm going to leave a comment in the comment section below
and just let you guys know what I felt like after trying to Kat Von D with the
lip scrub, if it improved the Kat Von D, because I haven't done that yet. So I'm
going to do that and I will leave a comment either in the description box
below, or in the comments, and just let you guys know how that went.
But um but I do love it. It is, um, it is slightly more sheer than the Kat Von D. I
found that the Kat Von D has a little bit more coverage, and you can see from
the way I'm wearing it now, and it's something I noticed...the person
that told me about this lipstick, he was wearing it and um it's just this guy
that works at the Shoppers here in downtown Calgary - Malakai if you're
watching this Malakai, thank you very much for this! Telling me about the
Jeffrey star product but um he was wearing it in a more red shade and it
also came off a little bit more sheer. I noticed on his lips, and so when I tried
it, I noticed the same thing. It's a bit more sheer, but maybe that's why it lasts
all day. and I don't mind it being slightly less colorful, because I have
fairly large lips to begin with and so I'm not trying to to create a whole
bunch of color where there isn't any. So I'm assuming, especially if you were
to be drawing outside your mouth or anything like that, it might be a little
bit too light for you. And in that case, you might want to go with Kat Von D
instead. So that was my only comment on the lipstick. I love the color that "I'm
shook" is kind of a burnt burnt coral they called it, and I like that it
actually is the color that that they say. It really is a burnt coral. I like the
description of the color. The pictures on Jeffrey Starr's website are really good
if you're looking at buying some of the stuff, I recommend going to his website
and looking at some of the pictures of it on. But it's a great color. I love the
color, I love the way it looks on my mouth because I don't necessarily always
want it to be quite so opaque, so the fact that it's a bit sheer is fine with
me, but if you do want a super super pigmented thick lipstick, you might be
happier with the Kat Von D instead. But personally I love this one and I'm
pretty happy with all the products. I really like them.
I'm so happy that Jeffrey star has apologised for his comments, like I said,
I realize not everyone is satisfied with his apology, a lot of people did not feel
happy with it, but I was happy because he apologized he said there was no excuse
for what he had said and then it made me feel a lot better about it going forward,
and I'm super happy to be able to support his brand, because I'm always
excited by companies that are a hundred percent vegan, and the fact that he's
made all of his products vegan, even though he didn't have to - I mean Jeffrey
start is not vegan but he wanted to create a product that was vegan so that
everyone could buy it. And I think that's great. I mean I think it's good marketing,
it's good business, and it's great as a vegan to be able to shop a product - to
shop a product line and know that everything in it is vegan. And especially
at reasonable prices. I mean, yes, you do have to buy them either from his company
or from another company, so there is that, but overall, I mean how often do you find
a brand where you can buy anything from that brand and its vegan? There aren't very
many. I know that Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is another one that I
need to try that's 100% vegan, but there just aren't that many 100% vegan, cruelty-free
brands. Tashina Combs did a - Tashina Combs from Logical Harmony did talk
with Jeffree Star - she did verify that all the products are indeed cruelty-free
and vegan, and yes they are so, that is something great to hear. If you check out
her review on her blog, Logical Harmony - I will put a link down to that blog post
in the comment section in the description box below, and you guys can
read that there, but...and she did a great interview with Jeffree Star, and he
explained why he chose to make his product line vegan - really great, and yeah,
so exciting. I feel very happy to support any brand that's 100% vegan. I think it's
fantastic. Definitely where I'm going to be getting my highlighter from now on.
And I really like this - the lipstick too, and the lip scrub is fantastic. So anyway
that's my thoughts on this product I don't really have anything too negative to
say. I would say that the highlighter is a bright highlighter, if you want a more
natural look Becca is probably a better highlighter for you. Have any of you guys
tried Jeffree Star? What do you think of his products? Let me know in the comment
sections down below. I would love to hear, and also if you enjoyed this video,
