The U.S. Navy's new aircraft carrier is the most advanced in the world, carrying more

aircraft and weapons than ever before.

The USS Gerald R. Ford is $13 billion futuristic ship complete with a gigantic flight deck

and a new electromagnetic system to launch aircraft.

The state-of-the-art tech and operational systems mean aircraft will be able to take

off faster to get to the fight quicker.

At 1,100 feet, the new Ford carrier is about the size of three football fields.

Built by Huntington Ingalls Industries, the Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is the first new aircraft

carrier design since USS Nimitz (CVN 68) – that's the first new design in about 40 years.

The Navy has ordered three of these Ford-class carriers -combined price tag approximately

$42 billion – and this is the first.

On Saturday, July 22, the Navy will commission the Gerald R. Ford with fitting pomp and circumstance

at the Naval Station Norfolk.

This first CVN 78 is named after former U.S. President Gerald R. Ford to pay tribute to

his lifetime of service to the nation in the Navy and the U.S. government.

During World War II, Ford was a Navy lieutenant commander serving on the light carrier USS

Monterey (a CVL 26).

So what advances does this new carrier offer?

-------------------------------------- So smart it can sail itself

For starters, the ship is so advanced folks describe it as being able to sail itself.

The traditional throttle system used to power and steer the U.S. Navy's older carrier classes

has been replaced by a thoroughly modern touchscreen .

--------------------------------------- Sailors first

The Ford class is designed with the sailor in mind.

The design incorporates features to improve quality of life for sailors and to make maintenance

easier.

There was also a lot of consideration put into how to improve survivability against

a wide range of current and anticipated future threats – and that helps keeps sailors safer.

In fact, the advances with this latest aircraft carrier mean things are more automated.

The Ford has a crew of 2,600 sailors, so that means 600 less Ssilors are needed than on

Nimitz-class class vessels.

---------------------------------------------------------------- More power, faster weapon loading

With two new reactors, the Ford class has about 250 percent more electrical capacity

than previous carriers.

The ship will be able to load weapons and launch aircraft faster than ever.

------------------------------------------------------- Launch more aircraft

The aircraft carrier has state-of-the-art electromagnetic catapults and advanced arresting

gear.

The military will be able to launch about 33 percent more aircraft than it can from

the older carriers.

The more aircraft the military can launch, the more bombs it can hit a target with.

The larger flight deck will also make it easier for the aircraft to maneuver.

The captain sits in a tower and on this carrier the "island's" position has changed,

giving the captain better visibility.

to replace the steam system used on other carriers.

It will provide improved launch operational ability for manned aircraft and drones.

In addition to launching more aircraft, this system aims to provide other advantages, like

reducing thermal signature – which is something enemy radars look for.

So far the system has successfully launched sleds that simulate the weight of an aircraft.

Live sea trials with aircraft will not start until the weeks after the commissioning.

-------------------------------------------------- Advanced arresting gear

When aircraft land on the carrier, the new electric motor-based Advanced Arresting Gear

(AAG) system helps provide deceleration.

There have been some teething problems reported with this new system, but the idea is that

it uses energy-absorbing water turbines with a large induction motor to control the arresting

forces to stop the aircraft.

----------------------------------- Other advances

The Ford class features other features like a new advanced reactor plant, propulsion system,

electric plant, machinery control, Dual Band Radar and integrated warfare systems.

In fact, these carriers will have more than 20 new or modified systems compared to the

prior Nimitz class vessels.

------------------------------------- Why is a carrier important?

U.S. aircraft carriers are a pivotal part of the fleet.

In fact, they have such powerful reputations that their mere presence can be enough to

discourage enemies from taking any action.

Oceans cover more than 70 percent of the planet and aircraft carriers can travel the world's

oceans to provide U.S. military with access nearly anywhere.

Such a futuristic aircraft carrier, the most advanced in the world, will play a role in

staying ahead of adversaries.

After the commissioning, the Ford will undergo more testing and then the first deployment

will be in 2020.The next two Ford class ships will be the future USS John F. Kennedy (CVN

79), and the future USS Enterprise (CVN 80).

Hello it is Niina and you are watching

Fairychamber Channel.

Today I am going to make some patterns

with watercolors on paper.

Will teach you different methods to create patterns.

For this first technique you will need

watercolor paper and watercolors

and you will need

a plastic bag that is cut in half.

Best for this project

is rather thin plastic bag.

So this first one is

how to create patters with watercolors and plastic bag.

Will start with the basics.

Choose a color you like.

For this particular project darker

colors are better.

Perhaps not yellow or orange. More like blue or dark green

purple or darker red.

Those are good colors

for this technique.

First

paint the whole paper.

Remember that

different kinds of papers have

different reactions.

I am now painting with

cherry red.

You can paint very loosely and you can also use

several colors.

This paper is 300 grams

and

there is some texture

in this paper.

This is some left over paper I have from illustrations

but these are great for demonstrations.

With plastic bag you can create

"diamond" pattern.

Lay the plastic over the watercolor

and adjust it the way you like.

You can

control this and create

the patterns that you want.

Like so.

Then you will let it try

20 minutes - 1 hour.

I´ll get back to it soon.

Let´s chek it out.

This has been drying for 2 hours now (it can be way less).

Because I made dinner between :)

Looks pretty nice.

Plastic bag creates a diamond-like pattern.

You can create all kinds of cool patterns with this technique.

It is diamond or ice

or snow melting- pattern.

That was the plastic bag technique.

Moving on to

salt.

I changed water to clear one.

I have larger flat

brush.

You will need basic sea salt.

You can use bigger chunks to

create salt patterns.

I think I will use blue color

now.

Then take some salt

and put it

around

randomly.

I put some water over the

bigger chunks.

That´s when the salt

sucks more water around it.

Which creates the nice

salt pattern.

I´ll let this one dry for a while as well.

Now paper has dried

and this is what it looks like.

The result of the salt pattern.

When you want to get rid

off those dry

salt chunks.

You can

take a larger brush

and just scrub

the salt away

or you can just scratch them with your thumb

since the paper is dry.

Bigger chunks create this

nice

Frozen-patterns.

Smaller salts create more detailed pattern.

Small ones tend to stuck into the paper.

they can look nice in the paper.

It all depends what kind of

pattern you want to create.

Bigger ones are easier to take away. You can even pick them up when the paper is drying.

Let´s go into the next technique and this one is

called the tooth brush technique.

I think I will make the background yellow now.

Once again I have left over papers.

There´s signs of

previous work.

But that´s fine with this particular technique.

Let´s make it

all yellow.

When you want yellow to pop up

use it a lot.

Just like that.

I´ll let it try for a while.

Even though it is called

tooth brush technique. Tooth brush is not mandatory.

I have old tooth brush here

You can also use flat brush

for this technique.

But now I will be using the tooth brush.

I´ll make

"snow storm" pattern with the

tooth brush.

You can use smaller brush

or you can use

some other kind of stick

that you can find from home.

Sticks used for barbecuing are good. Don´t use tooth picks they are too thin and they break.

I want some red

and green.

I will mix

some green.

When you make this splashy pattern

it is good to remember that

if you have light colored background

I recommend making the pattern with darker colors. If the background is darker.

For example dark blue

colors come out brighter if they are light. Like white.

If watercolor comes out too pale agains the

darker background. I recommend using acrylics and

mixing them with water to make the paint more fluid.

Pigment in acrylics is thicker than in watercolors.

Put some color to the tooth brush

and start painting.

You can create different kinds of effects.

More closer you are the paper

paint spreads more easily.

You can decide what kind of patterns and splashes you want

to different parts of the paper.

Do experiments. Try thick colors

and thin colors.

This technique is unpredictable

so be prepared

for surprises.

Keep in mind that you can not 100%

control this technique.

I´ll clean my paint tooth brush in the water

I`ll put it there to wait.

Seriously this happens to all my old tooth brushes ;)

Then I will mix some red.

I´ll put paint straight to the brush.

Then I

will do the same as before.

You can spread color by using your fingers as well

if you are not afraid to get your hands dirty.

This is going to be very colorful

I feel that something is missing so I will add some

ultramarine.

Then I have all

the main colors here.

I´ll adjust my camera screen a bit.

Here I have mixed some blue and

green together.

If you use lots of color the paint

spreads way easier.

If you only use very dry paint

patterns

come out slower

and splashes are smaller.

It will be all splashy.

I´ll show you one more technique.

For this you will need a straw and watercolors.

I´ll just

drop some green color here and there.

You can use lots of water with this technique.

Take the straw and start blowing.

Like so.

I´ll add some blue next.

Time to change the direction.

Next color

is yellow.

You can control the color

just blow to the direction where you want the color to spread.

You can also try to mix the colors while blowing.

This is really nice technique with kids.

Take it from a former art teacher.

These are the patterns finished

today.

The horse, who ripped off an unprecedented 7-month run to become the richest winner in history, nudged revered trainer Bob Baffert to ask whether he's the best the business has seen since standard-smashing Secretariat.

Sure, Arrogate roared to the fastest time at the Travers in its 147 runnings … in his first stakes race. He chased down California Chrome — winner of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Dubai World Cup and Breeders' Cup Classic — in the most recent Classic at Santa Anita.

He confidently crushed the field in the $12 million Pegasus Cup, followed by a last-to-first stunner in Dubai.

Jordan was known — a face and resume as ubiquitous as Nike's swoosh. Arrogate is a superstar thrashing his sport in the shadows. He stirs awe in stables and straightaways, but lacks the mainstream exposure afforded Triple Crown darlings like American Pharoah.

The undisputed No. 1 horse in the world is calling Del Mar his home, all summer long. In a sport dangling at the edge of America's fringe, will anyone notice?

Well, he's certainly Secretariat-like," Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith said. "If he remains healthy and keeps doing what he's doing, it would be a helluva argument."

The best in the sport build their cases over time and from the start. Spectacular Bid, Seattle Slew, Zenyatta, Affirmed and Citation all won their first races before gobbling stakes races like carrots.

Baffert plans to position his star for a Breeders' Cup Classic defense this November at Del Mar. To limit travel, Arrogate is arriving in time to also run in the track's San Diego Handicap on July 22 and season gem, the Pacific Classic, on Aug. 19.

There were plush mascot creatures, though, and Chad Brown did throw a first pitch, honored as he was with a bobblehead giveaway at the Tri-City ValleyCats game on Tuesday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

He held his follow-through as the ball sailed into the catcher's mitt with a pop.

"It was good; it was a little high," Brown said with a chuckle in his Saratoga Race Course office on Wednesday morning. "I was maybe a little ahead of the rubber, but I was up on the mound. A little high, but I wasn't going to throw it low."

That will be the theme for the next seven weeks as the 38-year-old from Mechanicville and his staff attempt to approach their wildly successful 2016 Saratoga meet, when Brown-trained horses won a record 40 races.

It was Brown's first championship at his hometown track and a significant factor in winning his season-ending Eclipse Award as outstanding trainer in North America, also a first.

Competition is fierce at this meet, which begins on Friday, and Brown is well aware that you need to bring your best stuff every time.

We set the bar pretty high," he said. "Me and my team are well aware of the fact that we had a lot of good fortune last year

We had a lot of things go our way, but we worked hard for those opportunities and put ourselves in position to do well. We know there are variables out of our control.

We're optimistic. We have another deep roster of talented horses. We think we have a good plan

With all that said, there are a lot of setbacks or injuries or illnesses. They're living, breathing animals, and we have to go on their schedule, often."

In 2016, Brown loosened Todd Pletcher's stranglehold on the training title.

Pletcher has 12 total, and was riding a six-year streak heading into 2016, although Brown had been inching closer in recent years.

With the championship well in hand on closing day, Brown polished off the season by winning the Hopeful with Practical Joke.

He won 24 percent of the time (to 21 percent for Pletcher), and was also the leading trainer on the New York Racing Association circuit for the entire year.

His barn is heavy with turf runners, but a win in this year's Preakness with Cloud Computing, who is pointing toward the Jim Dandy/Travers

helped to dispel the notion that Brown is a grass specialist who hasn't made a dent in the much more publicized and lucrative Triple Crown series.

I will say this, just being out in the general population, after winning eight Breeders' Cup races, an Eclipse Award and a Saratoga title

when you win a Triple Crown race, I've had people stop me in obscure places and say, 'Aren't you the guy who won the Preakness?'

"It's meant a lot. Did I see a huge influx of dirt horses into the barn the next day? No. It already had been in the process, that's how we wound up with a horse like Cloud Computing. But it was nice to see. I think a lot of people noticed. We've

already won so many meaningful dirt races, but it gets overshadowed by our dominance on the turf. If you took the turf horses away the last four years and only looked at the dirt horses, most stables would kill to have those horses and those wins.

Besides Cloud Computing, Brown's talented dirt horses include Practical Joke and the undefeated Timeline, who has won the Peter Pan at Belmont Park and Pegasus at Monmouth.

They're both running in the Haskell at Monmouth, and although Brown is not looking at the Travers for Practical Joke, he will consider the Allen Jerkens (formerly the King's Bishop) on Travers Day

He is, of course, loaded with grass horses, including Lady Eli, a four-time Grade I winner who is running in the Grade I Diana on Saturday. She finished second in the Ballston Spa last year in her first start after almost 14 months off due to laminitis.

Brown has won the Diana twice in the last six years, with Dacita last year and Zagora, and with a wide variety of turf stakes, Saratoga is primetime to unveil the horses who prefer that surface.

That also means a turf-heavy barn relies on good fortune with the weather, one of several factors that played in Brown's favor last year. He's also bringing momentum

The Right and Wrong Ways to End a Professional Email in English - Duration: 8:11.

Hi I'm Anne Marie with Speak Confident English and welcome to your Confident

English Wednesday lesson. Now most weeks we do focus on skills that are essential

for speaking English with confidence and fluency but this week we're going to

shift our focus a little bit and work on writing, specifically writing emails and

how to close or finish an email. Now just a quick note: if emailing is something

very useful to you in your English skills - maybe you email often in English

at work. I do have several other lessons on the topic of emails such as Seven

Rules for Professional Emails and How to Avoid Other Common Mistakes and you can

find all of those lessons also include links to those other lessons below this

video. But let's focus today on the right and wrong way to close an email. This is

the final impression someone will have of you and there are definitely right

and wrong ways to do it. And we'll look at two situations: situations that are

more business professional or formal and some more casual, very friendly ways to

end an email. Now two quick rules about emails: 1. always use a closing. Always.

It is considered unprofessional, maybe even rude, if you don't include a closing.

If it's your mom, if it's your best friend who is an English speaker or

someone that you email multiple times a day, then maybe you could avoid using a

closing. But in every other email you want to look professional

you want to look friendly, so use a closing. And the second rule is your

closing should match the formality of the email. If you're writing a business

email to a new client you should use a closing that is appropriate for a

business email and if you're writing to your new English-speaking neighbor then

you can use a more casual closing. Let's imagine a

more formal situation first: perhaps you are sending an email to arrange a date

and a time for a job interview or you are going to meet a brand-new client. It

is a business professional email. Here are a few great ways to end that email:

kind regards. Always professional, very friendly. Regards. Short, direct, but still

appropriate. Warm regards. Again very friendly but honestly this one is maybe

best used when you already know the person. It's still a formal email, it's a

formal business contact but you've already met them before.

And finally sincerely. This one sometimes for people feels a little bit too formal

its more common in a business letter but if you're writing to a total stranger

for example, you're writing about a job interview, it's okay to be really formal

even in an email and sincerely could be appropriate. Now if you're sending an

email to someone for work who you know well, you've met them several times but

it's still a work email, we don't need to be so formal. We can be a little bit more

casual but we still want to be professional as well so here are a few

examples: best or best regards. Again we could use warm regards. This is for someone

you already know. Or even cheers. Now this one is interesting because it's more

common among British English speakers or Australian English speakers. To be honest

I never use this closing. It's not natural to me but it is to many English

speakers so if it feels natural to you then feel free to use it.

And finally, if it's Friday and you're writing to the people you know in your

office end your email with have a weekend. Everyone loves to be reminded

that the weekend is almost here so you could use that as well. Those are all

fantastic ways to end an email that sounds professional and friendly but now

let's look at some examples that are not correct. These are examples that you

should avoid using in your emails. To be really honest, they're just not

appropriate for professional situations. Yours truly or yours faithfully. This

just feels too personal or too intimate. Have a blessed day. With this word

'blessed' it has a little bit of a religious feeling to it and

religion is not appropriate for a business professional situation, so it is

best to avoid this closing. Thanks or regards when you spell it as an

abbreviation, as I have here, not appropriate. We don't abbreviate closings

in professional emails. So you might be wondering: do I really need to use a

closing every time I send an email? Most of the time, yes. But there's one

exception. Imagine that you're at work and you send an email to the same person

every day and maybe you've sent them an email and now it is a chain email. A

chain email is when there are many different responses on the same email.

Maybe you ask a question, someone responded, then you gave your response,

they asked another question and it just continued. And now there are 20 emails

inside this one email. That's a chain email. Okay, after the first few emails

you can start to stop using a closing. Honestly, that's okay. It gets a little

bit too much to be honest but that's really the only

exception. Again the goal is to look professional all the time and a closing

in your email will help you do that. And that is it! You now have all the examples

that you need for professional, friendly closings in an email and some examples

that you should avoid. So now I'd like to hear from you: if you email in English

regularly - either just for fun with your personal contacts or professionally - what

continues to be the most challenging for you? I know that it can be stressful,

frustrating, it takes time to think about the right things to say, so what is the

Simple Touch Plate Probe / Build and Use on bCNC - Duration: 5:20.

Ok I'm going to make the touch probe for the CNC machine

using this 3 pin aviation panel mount.

I'm just sticking with the format of shielding and luckily I've got a bit of wire that I

can use to shield here.

I noticed when I solder this particular type of wire, the sleeving shrinks a little because

of the heat.

This might be because I'm using thin solder and keep the iron on the wire core for too

long.

So this doesn't become a problem later, once the wires are tinned, I snip the ends

down a little so I don't have too much metal exposed.

I use heat shrink to neaten the joins and check that there are no shorts using the voltmeter.

I soldered a crocodile clip to one wire end, and crimped

a ring terminal to the other.

Ok I need to decide what I'm going to use as the touch-plate now.

I'm going to use a piece of aluminium angle bar as the touch plate for now.

Extruded aluminium is pretty flat so variation along the piece will be minimal.

And the angle will also help keep the aluminium flat, but I need to tapper this so it doesn't

get caught on the incoming spindle.

Ok the wire that's meant to be the shield is making contact with one of the other wires.

Obviously I haven't done a good job here.

So I'm going to cut this back and un-solder it.

Ok I've re-soldered it.

I've actually written the code here that I need to write after I've done the probe sequence.

To Probe in bCNC I had to position the bit above the area I wanted to probe, and then

set the x, y and z coronadites to 0.

I then set the probe along z direction to -10, although that could vary, and made sure

the touch plate hadn't moved away from the soon to be incoming bit.

I pressed probe and once they made contact and stopped I typed the command G92 Z1.5 into

the command line.

G92 sets the position of the bit end, and z1.5 is the thickness of the touch plate along

the z axis.

I then raised the bit, removed the touch plate and moved the spindle to the new origin.

I then use my feeler gauge to check the remaining distance between the waste-board and the bit,

and reinput the g92 command with that difference.

Thinnest one, which is 0.01mm.

So if I write G92 Z0.1 now it should move down a little

bit further.

That doesn't go in (0.1mm).

Lets try a thinner 0.02mm.

It's catching ever so sightly.

That's bang on.

I'll measure that again.

That's 1.49mm, 1.52mm...

I may have not held the aluminium touch plate down well enough, but the thickness does vary

slightly, as can be seen by the vernier caliper measurements.

Alternatively I look out for a gauge blocks and use that as the touch plate.

Why 'Be Yourself'? Are You all you have? - Duration: 3:37.

I guess you have heard it, and maybe even considered it, or even worse believed it.

People say all kinds of things, as there are hundreds of quotations, blogs, songs, sermons,

and how-to's, about "being yourself."

When it comes from acclaimed, successful people, the "be yourself advice," which is possibly

the most commonly used phrase in history, is just so misleading.

They even claim that you will be truly happy, "being yourself".

Well?

How well are they doing?

Haven't you tried to be yourself?

Have you been truly happy?

That is because "being yourself" is truly isolationist.

Can anyone be happy, being isolated?

God, our Heavenly Father, did not create you to be alone or isolated (Gen 2:18)?

These "be yourself" advisors' other quotes include: "Don't compromise yourself

- you are all you have"—John Grisham.

"Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness"—Allen Ginsberg.

"Be yourself- not your idea of what you think somebody else's

idea of yourself should be"—Henry D. Thoreau.

"Make the most of yourself, for that, is all there is of you"—Ralph Emerson; and

"Just be yourself, there is no one better"—Taylor Swift.

We acknowledge that these phrases may sound wise, and sometimes cheering.

They are just enticing words of human wisdom (1Cor 2:4).

However, the idea that no one is better than you is just ungodly (Psa 14:1; Mat 19:17).

To believe the "be yourself" advice is idolatry—self-worship (Exo 34:14; Mat 4:10).

Moreover, to think that you should place confidence in yourself or some person is unchristian

(Psa 20:7, 118:8-9 Act 4:32) and unwise, because to fear and trust in the Lord

is wisdom (Psa 111:10; Pro 1:7, 3:5).

God, our Heavenly Father, did not make you to be yourself or be self-focused, but to

be a living-you; that is filled and living with His Holy Spirit (Gen 2:7), with a purpose

to be and look like His Son (Rom 8:29).

So that He can be in you and you in Him (Jn 15:4, 14:20).

To be like Him, have His character, perfection, and holiness (Gen 1:26-27); to be His righteousness

and to live for Him (2Co 5:21; Php 1:21).

Let no one mislead you with enticing words of human wisdom.

God loves you dearly, so please be Christ-like.
