I'm from a small town called Kuching

which is on the island of Borneo

Malaysia

my dad is Kelabit

and it's a small tribe that is about 4000 people

less than 4000 speakers of the langage

this is called Sapeh

sapeh used to be only played by men

it's played by a few different tribes

along the Barong river

so for example by the Kelabit People

but mostly by the Kenyan

also by the Kayan

so there are 3 different tribes

that speaks 3 different langages

but they are kind of connected through the instrument

and it's very closely related to the river

and to the rain forest

what is so special about Borneo

i think, most of all the environment

the natural environment is so beautiful

we have the oldest rainforest in the world

like for example

flying back to my village

and you just see like a sea of trees

it's like flying off the ocean exept that it's all

these big green trees

and you see this tiny area where the village is

i think everybody in Borneo has a connection to a village

whether they grew up there, or their parents grew up there

everybody is linked to a village

and i think when you grow up

with those values of living together

especially for us, we come from a long house

for example it's 20 families in a long house

for the Iban people you can have a hundred families in a long house

so you live together, it's a communal living

you share your food, you look after each others kids

i think those values

live strong in people from Borneo

like people who live in cities and towns

have a modern city life

i started playing Sapeh because

my cousins and I were learning how to dance

so there is a dance that goes along with the Sapeh

the Hornbill dance

at this time there is only one CD recording

and there was like one or two

sapeh masters who could play for our live

dancing practice or dance shows

so what happened is 7 of us cousins

we decided to learn the Sapeh

so that we can support the dancers

make the song longer, the song shorter

it really came out of a creative need

more than anything else

we didn't really realize the significance of what we were doing at this time

we approached Uncle Mathew Ngau

and i didn't know this but when i was doing an interview with him 2 years ago

so i learned from him about 16 years ago

but 2 years ago we did an interview together

and the reporter asked him

why did he want to teach us

and he said at the time, he didn't know if he should teach us

because we were girls, we were young girls

girls didn't just play the sapeh

what would the community would say about him?

but then he kind of reflected and said

there is no one in his generation that would allowed us to learn the Sapeh

so he said I got to teach them

so we were actually his first students

music and art is a form to tell stories

and to share emotions

music is a tool to do that

so i think it's a lot about

stories, connecting people to the stories

every human, like every person has a story

and every story comes to a place

so music is like this big complex thing

that connects humans to each others

and to different places

at different points of time

i actually did this one in art school

that's my final project

it's taken from a photograph of

"Topok Mong" this lady

and my uncle took the photograph of her

he is a photographer so i saw

this photo of her

and i was like "oh i love the lines of her face"

i have to draw her

and Uncle said that

he asked if he could take a photo

and she went and put on her best clothes

and her ear rings

necklace

and things important to us

and a few weeks later she died

it took me i think

20 hours to draw it

i didn't get up, i didn't eat, i didn't sleep

I finished 2 pencils

this is a grandfather who was really close to us

and he was the first head master

he sadly died last year

he was the great chief of the Kelabit people

i started this piece for fun

and i kinda just drawed this girl

i didn't know where the piece was going

and my uncle Elias came to stay with us

in KL in the city

for a week

and when i was little, Uncle Elias used to paint

and used to carve around the house

i think he has been a big influence on me

he came and he was: i feel like painting

go to my studio paint anything

and he decided to paint on one of my paintings

which i loved

this is his typical style

and then i did a little bit more

as a musician what is my dream?

i never thought i would be a musician

i kind of took everyday and every year as it comes

and i think ultimatly what i love doing the most is

connecting with people

connecting with other artists

is something that is so special, amazing, and so deep

when i sing people don't understand the langage or the words

but they feel something

and for me i 've done my job as a musician

if that happens so i really hope, i can continue doing that

today I'm gonna take a look at these cheap RFID modules and cards that I got

while back in some various mail bags but first as is tradition beer time

gearing up to supply Canadian production when the government gets around to

making cannabis illegal in this fine country it's a much more blond beer much

more pale that I'm usually interested in however for science I'm willing to give

it a try did a golden royal log or balanced with German hops that I can't

pronounce the Rye contribute to space complexity while the addition of hemp

seeds for easy and nothing multi finish the finished product does not contain

THC or CBD hmm no still it's legal here yes alright there may not be in other

interesting that's actually a good summary everything right on to the

electronics so I have a couple of RFID reader modules here I'm hoping that I

got there's two different frequencies of them one is 125 megahertz and one is

13-point never written down here thirteen point five six megahertz and in

my reading I think this one is the thirteen point five six megahertz so

hopefully this one huh it calls it an RF 125 but that doesn't

mean anything since this one already has pins on it

let's play with it first pull the tags out push that off this

that thing off to the side for a minute so in order to use this we'll need an

Arduino and a breadboard to throw it onto and have to put a library into the

into the Arduino IDE as well so the first thing to do is I guess get the

library and just using the built in the library manager there's an assortment of

them but I have chosen this one which is for the specific border got the MRF c5

to 2 and I already installed it as you can see it says installer if I hadn't I

just click on it and select the version and click the install button

but since I've already got it off camera let's just leave that alone and as with

almost every library it comes with some examples which is what we're going to

play with let's just start first I guess with this one which go

dump info which as the name suggests dumps all the info off the card close

that back there open that up I'm going to use what are

doing am I going to use let's use e you know that's easy

just as always just pick it out of the list here where is it there it is

okay and when we're ready we can just send that in order to wire it up nicely

the author of this has included the pin notes for the demos so we're gonna need

the reset pin on the board to go to pin nine the SDA the MOSI miso and serial

clock to go to this so nine ten eleven twelve and thirteen is what we're gonna

need for using a different one a different type of arduino we could use

different pins but that's easy there so let's hook it up / those instructions so

i've just quickly took this up off camera because you've seen people

plugging things in before but basically there's a pins down there seer later

in use no it's not and then reset power and ground this thing runs on 3.3 volts

the Arduino you know runs on five volts however the pins on this thing are if I

of cool I thought I might but everything that I've read says you don't

so yes I'll come up and go back into the software and upload to the board and

uploading is as simple as just clicking the upload button and see down here it

compiles grind grind grind and when it's done compiling do-do-do-do-do-do when

it's done compiling it uploads and when it's uploading you can see the lights

flashing quickly on the arduino and then that's ready so we'll pop the serial

monitor open that can't it did some things there it's scanning yeah push the

reset button you see what happens okay let's see what happens when I weave a

card in front of it here

because what I was demonstrating this well pins got unplugged you reset so no

that it's dumping all of its memory out for us so there is what we got here

63 blocks divided into sectors with 15 sorry 16 bytes data across it so 64

blocks times 16 bytes equals 1k Wow oh gee duh 1 kilobyte it says so right

there didn't have to do the math okay so you can store 1k of data in this card

which is kind of cool and the UID of the card is cards actual serial number which

is in actually the first four bytes so if you can overwrite the data that would

mean you can overwrite that too right interesting but yeah I'm just gonna I'm

gonna file this key tag one now in front of it and it's also 1k byte full of data

okay that's this one and no nothing happens

pass which is sort of see-through there's an RFID antenna coiled up in

there see what happens with this oh that's readable - what does that got

15 64 bytes of data okay that's cool there's another one Oh neat okay

ones are speaking the 125 like that okay that's cool I'm going to bring up a

different script here now how about read and write cause that one

back there so this one this is going to write in Sector one two blocks four and

seven and I think those ones well actually the other scripts still in

there so if I do this and I put a card in front of it

so it says it's going to where to go here right in Sector one blocks four

through seven so sector one walks four through seven

okay how is it doing that so I got the same P notes and everything there okay

so there it's setting up the data structure and it's saying in Sector four

block head or sector one block address for up to seven so four five six seven

I'm guessing and okay I'm not much on code as you know but looks like well

let's just try it and find out so step one of course compile and upload I'll

save you having to wait for this okay that wasn't too bad compiled and

uploaded serial monitor there it is so use that same card as before and if I

read the code correctly this is gonna read it and then right back to it so

there we go that's what a readout of it block one or sorry sector one block four

right now has all zeros in it in the before so read that boom there it is

then it wrote this data to it and there it is down there Nido so you can use

that one cave data for data space for writing whatever you want into it and

read it back in your programs that's kind of cool I have no idea what I'm

gonna use that for but it's still cool so that's just a quick tinker

with this thing the other thing that I noticed is that let's get it sideways

here and watch the lights on here I mean it's actually getting a little bit

closer so it will trigger from a couple of centimeters away see that that's a

reasonable distance that it triggers from - so you could put some piece of

wood or plastic or something in there and hide that behind the panel that's

kind of neat yeah so this thing there's lots and lots of information online

about this particular one it seems to be very common there's lots of tutorials

the other one however it is proving to be difficult to find any information on

but I guess if well and I have to solder the antenna to it which means I've got

to figure out the pin out and the first problem with that is oh yes you know

first problem with figuring the pin out is loo easy bastards didn't label it so

I'll have to spend some time googling I think I'll spare you that because you

all know how Google works after a bunch of searching it turns out that IC

station has information on this little guy here and if we go down we have the

pin out and also a little example circuit down there because not exactly

what I'm gonna build I'm going to I'm just going to put the

antenna in and put it in an LED and then take the serial output which is on pin 3

I'm gonna have to figure out some software for this thing - okay so

I've got the pin out from the HD station website the antenna goes on this end

here and the rest of the pins are 5 volt there's our ground 5 volts serial out

LED and buzzer if you're going to use it in that kind of an application I don't

think I'm going to do an LED or buzzer on it ground first then 5 volts and you

know I need a serial out to go to the Arduino which this thing uses software

serial which means it can go on any pin but the sketch that I found puts it on

pins 5 and 6 but I'm not sure which is transmitting which is receive and

according to the software serial demo Rx is the first one which means that pin 5

is what my Arduino receives on right here's some code that I here's the code

that I found on that random Instructables web page let's see if it

works upload it let's try one of these little

I MAKE HOMEMADE HUMMUS - Duration: 7:24.

hey guys what you're looking at here are some soap chickpeas I'm going to make

some homemade hummus now that I decided to incorporate with the juicing raw and

I mean 95% raw that means they'll only be a rare occasion will where I'll have

some chicken some beef or some fish or some shrimp to add along with my meals

but I'm going to for a while have it roughly raw foods in juices so if I'm

not drinking my juices which is still a form of eating but just in a liquid form

it will be raw foods um however this is something that is a cooked food but it

is vegan it's hummus and I'm going to start

making homemade hummus because I'm spending too much money for a small

container along with tabbouleh and I'll show you in another video how to make

the tabbouleh um so over here is my pink : salt which

I'm starting to run low on I'm going to add that to the beans and then I have my

garlic powder that I'm going to add to the beans and I'm gonna also add some

oil old-school method that southern cooks people who cook southern way which

I have all my life and so has my grandmother and my mother is they soaked

dry beans overnight which I did with the chickpeas then they season they put the

water in the pan with the beans then they season the water with you know um

onions and green peppers and season assaults and and garlic powder and

pepper and all that stuff what I'm gonna do is I'm going to keep it really simple

it's going to be two ingredients to season it and then re season it when the

hummus is which the chickpeas are done and I have to

mash and puree them so I'm going to for now while I'm waiting for this boy this

water to boil it's on high I'm gonna add my people and salt in garlic powder and

when the beans are cooked I will come back to show you and then after I

prepare it I will come back and show you the finishing product because this

sister here is gonna stop making fresh chickpeas whenever I need some hummus

and I'm gonna be making fresh tabbouleh and I will show you that video the the

week that I use in the tabbouleh is already ready it has been since

yesterday very easy to make the tabbouleh

that'll be a separate video don't want to overwhelm you guys and I will see you

in a second okay the beans are completely done I just turned off the

stove and I'm going to let them cool I'm also going to separate the beans and

what's left of the bean liquids so that I can use it along with the oils that

are going to be added to the hummus to make this nice and smooth so I will be

back when it's all prepared so the chickpeas have been transferred to this

Tupperware container there's still piping hot some people like to take the

skin off of it because it makes it smoother I'm going to blend mine's hot

and I have a technique that they're gonna be schools either way I'm also

going to use 5 garlic cloves you can use more I like mines really garlicky and

some lemon I don't know how many I'm gonna use yet but I will tell you how

many I use of lemons and also this is the liquid from the chickpeas

I'm going to use that as well as the oil which I don't have out I'm going to use

some olive oil as I puree these beans um and I have the salt pickling salt that

I'll be using in tahini sesame seed paste very very important to have you

tahini that gives it the flavor you're looking

for besides the lemon in the garlic can't forget all this stuff here so once

this is all put together I will give you the total ingredient juice so you can

make this for yourself and I'll be back

so here's the finished product this light needs to go on should have been on

the whole time so here is the finished product so I

ended up not using all of the chickpeas I could have used maybe 1/4 of the bag

in made for big servings of comments at one time or I mean at four different

times I mean I use half the beads that you guys seen in the bowl pureed it with

the tahini for a whole pound of hummus it consists of half a cup and I

basically use I mean a whole cup I'm sorry but I use half the cup so this is

the finished product of my hummus homemade fresh garlic tahini and

chickpeas with three whole lemons that I use I juiced them and then I added it to

the hummus didn't need to use any salt because when I soaked the beans

overnight there was a pickling salt already infused

drybeck beans when they were soaking and also I when I was cooking the beans I

sprinkled a little bit of salt inside of the water I pretty much put my own touch

on how to make my chickpeas I kind of followed how the southern way does it so

I didn't have to add no salt when I was making the hummus

I bought the tahini sauce unsalted because I don't know what kind of salt

they use and even if they say sea salt or pickling salt I don't trust it I like

to add my own salt so I didn't have to solve
