It was graduation day and even though the sky was grey and gloomy,
Polly, my best friend and I did not let it get us down.
When arrived to Ben's house for the graduation house party, we couldn't be more excited.
Bring down the rain and thunder, we're here to have fun.
I sat down to greet two of the girls from school in one of the rooms and took a look around.
It was only 8pm and it seemed everyone was already tipsy.
Polly disappeared to get some drinks and looks like the boys a year below us are helping her out.
I decided to talk a walk through the dance floor where everyone was just going crazy
because of the insane sound system Ben had.
I walked through and found Matt, my boyfriend.
The minute he saw me, he shot through the crowd and held me like we hadn't seen each other in years.
I literally had just seen him in the afternoon.
He took my hand and we went together to the couch where I told him proudly about how well
I did in my interview with the university.
So well in fact, I was accepted!
After he heard that, he congratulated me and went to pour me a drink.
Normally, I would just say no because I don't really handle alcohol very well.
I would just say that I have to go home and I don't want my mom to smell it on
me, but I thought no, not this time.
I was so proud of myself that I go into university that I think a little congratulations are in order.
So, cheers!
First it was one glass, then it was another, and another and another.
The more I drank, the more my consciousness and memory faded away.
The one thing that did stay was how hot and intense it felt to touch and kiss him.
As we kissed, he led me to one of the bedrooms with one hand opening the door
and the other rubbing around under my top.
The alcohol just made me forget everything.
All I could think about was all the new sensations that was happening to me.
The short intense pleasure from sex was something that I had never experienced before.
When we made our way onto the bed and made love,
I didn't even for a second think about the consequences that would follow...
About a month after that, I started to feel strange.
While I was helping my mom cook, I smelled something that made me nauseous.
But I had been under a lot of pressure from university and not to mention all the stress
from exams and college applications from before, so that had to be what it was... right?
It was alarming when I realized that my period hadn't come in almost a month
and I started to feel nauseous and tired more and more.
I had to call Matt.
Since that night, we hadn't been talking much.
When we spoke he told me that he didn't wear a condom because it felt better for me without it
and it's just one time, what's the harm?
So I told him what's been happening and the thing that could be the cause...
He went quiet and hung up.
I tried to call him back but he wouldn't answer and eventually his phone was turned off.
I just curled up and cried.
I was scared and completely lost.
So I called Polly and she ran out to get a pregnancy test and then everything I feared
came true.
My dream of being a social worker just crumbled before me.
There's no way I can go back to university now.
It's over.
My life is over.
Because I'm pregnant.
When I couldn't hide it anymore, I had to tell my mom.
I really didn't know how she would react.
She raised me as a single mother and worked all her life to give me the opportunities she never had.
And look at where that got her.
When I told her, the look on her face and the tears streaming down her eyes
felt like a knife was stabbing deep into my heart.
What a terrible of a daughter I am.
But quickly, she pulled me close and comforted me with words I didn't expect she'd say.
She told me that everything is going to be fine and that we would get through this together.

Patty, Patty, Patty! Someone was trying to wake me up
It was Polly. "Wha...what happened?" I was so confused and my head was killing me
Polly then explained that I was so drunk last night and when Matt said he was going to take me to bed,
she told him that it wasn't a good idea because I was too drunk and so was he.
So, she stayed with me the entire night to make sure I was okay
I completely blacked out and don't remember any of this!
My dream could have easily become a reality if it wasn't for Polly looking out for me that night.
On my way out, I went to say bye to Matt who seemed pretty upset about last night.
I guess it really bothered him because he broke up with me the next day and started seeing someone else.
It was okay though because Polly was with me the entire time helping me through the break-up
and reassuring me that everything would be okay.
3 weeks later, while my mom was driving me to my school orientation, she gave me "the talk"
seeing as I would be entering my first year at university. Out of all places, it was in the car...
But I didn't mind because, after that dream, I realized how important it is to practice safe sex
no matter the situation or circumstances.
Not only does it prevent unwanted pregnancies but also from sexually transmitted diseases as well.

I'm Adam.
In today's lesson I want to teach you eight idioms that come from education.
Actually, I have 10 of them, a couple of them are just expressions, though, so I can add
them to the other ones.
Eight idioms.
All of these come from education, but now we use them to talk about other things that
might not be related to education at all.
Okay?
So, as you know, idioms are groups of words, they're expressions whose individual words,
when they're put together might not mean the exact same thing as the words themselves.
They can have completely unrelated meanings, and we're going to see some examples of these.
So we're going...
We have a lot of ground to cover, so we're going to go slowly but surely through it all.
So, what does it mean "to cover a lot of ground" or "have a lot of ground to cover"?
It means to have a lot of material or a lot of information to get through, and understand,
and make sure everybody gets.
Right?
When we cover a lot of ground, technically it comes from the ground, and you cover ground
means you move, you travel.
But we use "ground" as information, and "cover" means go over.
So: "cover a lot of ground", get through a lot of information.
Also, we "can't teach an old dog new tricks".
So what does it mean, you can't teach an old dogs a new trick?
So imagine your grandfather, okay?
You are moving to another country because you're studying English, you want to immigrate
to another country.
You get to that country and you want to continue speaking with your grandfather in your home country.
So you're trying to teach him Skype or you're trying to teach him, like, a mobile app, messenger, whatever.
But your grandfather is trying, trying, trying, he just doesn't get it.
And then finally he says: "You know what?
I don't care.
We'll call each other on the telephone once in a while."
So finally you give up, you say: "You know what?
You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
We'll just call on the phone."
It means as people get older, it's very difficult to change their habits.
Okay?
We're not calling old people old dogs, it's just an expression, but basically old people
don't change habits very easily.
You can't teach them, so that's where the education comes in.
Now, something or someone is "old school" or he or she belongs to an "old school of
thought" or to a particular school of thought.
So, if somebody is old school, he or she likes something that is a little bit old-fashioned,
likes to do something a little bit old-fashioned, something that's probably outdated, not modern.
Okay?
Now, it doesn't have to be about a person.
It could be a thing.
So, for example, if you...
For example, if you go to Cuba...
Okay.
Cuba has a lot of old cars from the 1950s. Okay?
Like Chevys, and Fords, and whatnot.
We can say: "Oh, wow, that's a really old-school car."
It has the old engines, nothing computerized.
It's all carburetor and all kinds of pipes all over the place.
It's very old school.
It's very cool, but it's not modern. Okay?
So it's something that's old school.
When we talk about a school of thought, it means it's a particular way of viewing something
or thinking about something.
We especially use it to talk about, like, philosophy.
Okay?
But even in science there are certain scientists who basically subscribe to this particular
school of thought.
So, we use the word "subscribe", means they believe in doing it this way.
Other scientists subscribe to this school of thought.
So, the...
There was a scientist who said: "This is the way we should do it."
There was another scientist who said: "This is the way we should do it."
All the people who follow this way created a school or a viewpoint, they created their
own viewpoint.
So different schools of thought.
So, if we're talking about how to discipline children, okay?
Some people like to sit their children down and talk, talk, talk for hours to try to teach
them something. Other...
In other cultures they just slap them on the bum, the kid understands, never does it again.
The slapping thing is a little bit old school, we don't really do that anymore, but it comes
from an old school of thought where punishment creates discipline.
That's...
I'm not getting involved in the actual question, that's up to you.
I'm just telling you the expressions.
"Learn the ropes".
Okay?
So, if somebody needs to learn the ropes, they need to learn how to do something.
So when you join a company for the first time, at the beginning you don't know where the
copy machine is, you don't know where the fax machine is, you don't know how to do things
around the office, so at the beginning you have to learn the ropes, learn how everything
works, and then you become adjusted.
I think it actually comes from sailing, I'm not sure.
All kinds of different ropes you need to learn how to use them to sail your boat, but basically
it means adjust to a new situation, get to know it, move on.
Now, if you're going to "teach someone a lesson", it means you're going to punish them.
Okay?
"I'm going to teach you a lesson you won't forget."
Right?
So somebody did something bad to me, and I want to get revenge, I want to teach them
a lesson.
I want to punish them so they understand that what they did to me was bad and I'm going
to do something worse for them.
Now, the other side: "to learn a lesson".
Of course, you go to school, your teacher teaches you and you learn the lessons, but
when we say: "Oh yeah, I really learned a lesson from that experience", it means you
went through a bad experience, usually, and you learned from it so you will not repeat
it again.
So it's not necessarily punishment, but it was a bad experience that you will avoid.
To teach someone, somebody did something bad to you and you will get revenge, you will
punish them for it.
"To school someone", now, realistically you can interpret this as to teach someone something.
Right?
To school someone in etiquette, means to teach them etiquette or to teach them behaviour, etc.
These days it's used as a slang term, it means to embarrass somebody.
So if I'm playing basketball with a friend of mine and, you know, I'm trying to do all
these things and then suddenly he just steals the ball and he goes and does a 360 slam dunk,
he schooled me.
He showed me how real basketball players play and I am nothing.
So he embarrassed me, he schooled me in basketball or any situation.
Okay?
"'A' for effort", good job, nice try, but sorry, you're not hired.
You failed.
You didn't do the work properly.
So if somebody says: "You get an 'A' for effort", it means: "I really appreciate that you tried
so hard, but it's not very good.
You didn't really succeed. Sorry. Bye." Right?

hi guys welcome to your sons of the cane this week and part of Kev's journey we're
going to look at three more wrist locks
click subscribe for new videos wednesday and saturdays ok we're looking at
the first time but when we talk we talk about inline and cross-line
so inline would be arm to arm so we're on the same side as that were cross
lines when I'm going across the body to grab the opposite wrist so this one
first of all we call it a salute and it's cross the line so what I've done
is I've grabbed Kev's wrist so I'm trying to control him or restrain him
what he's going to do is rotate his hand up like he's going to
give me a salute so it's palm his out his thumb is up and he's going to bring his
fingers to his forehead like he's going to salute then he's going
To turn his palm towards me and Curl his fingers over my wrist to reinforce
the lock what he's going to do is put his other hand on top of my fingers I
now cannot move and the trick to this one is to roll the fingertips and Roll them
into your abdomen or your Center and the lock goes on okay so what we're doing I've
got a firm grip here so he's gonna use his core to lift his palm up
and rotate to the side rotating the fingers clamping down
clamping my fingers down and again rotating in into his abdomen and I'm
tapping out once you have that technique we can actually
have what we call an enhancer so if any of you've done Taichi and understand the
pushing waves principle he's not doing this and doing this motion he's actually
rocking his body and he's actually getting more effect on so again practice
the basic version then try to enhancer you can again roll your shoulders
as well as rolling with the core
the second one we're gonna use is what we call the figure-four so this will be from a
downward strke so this would be something coming in like a bottle or a knife and
we've got again again back to our red belt syllabus we've got an upper
block he's got a nice strong position well away from his head his other
hand is coming up he's coming behind my elbow and what he's going to do is roll
that forward then his fingers wil clamp onto his forearm
hence the figure four position and it's going to push that forward rotating at
the joint and Ideally pop out the shoulder difficult technique to do
seated so yeah down taking the technique break
my grip twist it down and apply force so it doesn't matter which arm
you used to block the important thing is protect yourself it's coming in again
rolling through and the technique okay difficult from a seated position but the
principle works for either arm when you're blocking also with this technique
chris grabs me I'm halfway there hand comes over and it's a push-pull
doing it slowly hand comes down breaks the elbow and comes under you
wouldn't put your position to start with roll forward grab and down this
technique can be used some of these pointing aggressive so the hand comes
underneath and you're grabbing the meat of the thumb with your fingers all you
going to do is rotate your hand and pull it in towards your abdomen so there's a
twist
okay the straights of my are not my arm is the worst is actually for me as well
underneath grabbing the meat of the thumb my thumb is pressuring against his
little finger line and all I'm doing is twisting and I'm pulling it into my core
other side I've got the meat of the thumb my thumb is pressing
out to the line of his little finger I'm rotating that and I'm pulling it in big
key to these is as I'm doing these my elbow is tucked in tight to my core if
my elbows out I will be moving my arm around his body and he has control I
need to lock my elbow in so I've got control so if he does resist I'm in a
locked position and it's a lot easier for me to rotate the wrist so with this
one easy way both you put your palms up facing each other and a simple way to
train for this cross line come underneath wrap the thumb come underneath
grab the thumb and if you remember from the red belt syllabus where we have our
soto uke block this is just an adaption of that so if you want to train
in this one underneath drag the thumb
and twist underneath grab the thumb and twist slight variant on that so if I'm
here I've got it I can do the same motion but looking at the elbow and I've
got the same twist so again rather than being across I'm in line and then I got
across while scooping the elbow if I do we're over the top swings underneath and as is
trapped me I'm in a very very uncomfortable position but this time
we're just going to quickly apply these from a standing to seated position so from
the salute i grab Kev's wrist rolled over in and he's down figure of four coming down
locked rolled and he's broken my balance I'm gone last one he's come underneath he's
grabbing my thumb pressing with this thumb and I'm gone okay guys thanks for
