Economic Update: We Can Do Better Than Capitalism - Duration: 29:41.Welcome friends to another edition of Economic Update, the weekly program
devoted to the economic dimensions of our lives,
jobs, debts, incomes, our own, our children's.I'm your host Richard Wolff.
I've been a professor of economics all my adult life and in a way been
preparing to offer these economic updates each week before jumping in
today let me quickly announce that we have a new mailing address a new post
office box and we'd urge those of you that are mailing anything to us check
with our website democracy at work dot info for that new address and likewise
those of you interested in starting or joining an action group based on what we
do that may already be in your city please go to our website again address
is action dot democracy at work dot info and there you will get all the ways to
proceed along those lines so turning now to the economic updates there's a theme
for today's in it the theme might be best described as how and why we can do
better than capitalism as a system and much of what we do today will illustrate
that point I start with a remarkable experiment undertaken by a capitalist
enterprise in New Zealand it basically went from a five-day workweek to a
four-day workweek salaries were not reduced workers simply had four days
rather than five days to do their job and the result by the way the name of
the company is the perpetual Guardian a financial company that employs 240
workers it did the trial in March and April of 2018 and the Guardian newspaper
covered it as did other newspapers around the world but I want to make sure
you get the message the company loves it the company reported better results that
way than in the old five-day week in other,
workers had a better what they call their life work balance because they had the
extra weekend day Friday off they worked better they worked harder
they had more energy it turns out that the old capitalist system of making
everybody work five days a week just convenience the employer it wasn't even
good for them and it sure wasn't good for the workers it's a failure of the
system to have taken this long to discover what this New Zealand company
found out here's another example of how capitalism is something we surely can do
better than it has to do with the capital of the country of Austria namely
the city of Vienna and there's something about housing in Vienna that I want to
talk to you about because my guess is you probably don't know which is itself
a reflection of something important that we don't know about these things
62% of the citizens of Vienna live in public housing housing built by owned by
and operated by the city of Vienna in other words public housing is the
dominant form of life in that city nearly two-thirds of the people live in
public housing and let's now talk about it it turns out for example that a
average monthly rent paid by folks in there is between four hundred and
seventy and six hundred dollars a month yeah you heard me right that's because
it's not profit-making housing it doesn't have to profit the Builder it
doesn't have to profit the operator it doesn't have to profit the maintainer
and because it doesn't have to make profits because it's a public service
the benefits are passed on to the tenants whose rent is far far below the
average percentage a home owner a home renter excuse me in
vienna the percentage of rent out of their income is 27 percent i checked and
in new york city it was 58 percent in other words the
percentage of your income you have to spend for rent is twice in new york city
what it is in the capital of austria one of the great cities of Europe Vienna it
turns out that if housing isn't a profit-making business you can do much
better for people and if you ever go to Vienna as I've done and you visit the
public housing as I've done you will understand what the difference is the
homes are well-kept the landscaping is beautiful the comfort is obvious and the
happiness of the people clear a hundred years ago this project was started ever
since then ever since the 1920s when conservative and liberal and left-wing
and right-wing governments came and went none of them ever dared do anything
about that public housing structure because it is so popular and so
satisfactory nobody wants to go back to private enterprise housing a little bit
like the state of North Dakota here in the United States which has a publicly
owned and operated bank and despite lots of right wing left wing Democratic
Republican governors nobody dares to mess with their public bank here's
another example of how we can do better than capitalism Fordham University in
New York City a Jesuit institution just signed a contract with their
non-tenure-track faculty usually called adjuncts the contract gives these
adjuncts teachers who teach one or two courses raises between get ready sixty
seven and ninety percent the SEIU union representing these faculty edge
it's says that they will be getting at the end of this three-year contract
between seven and eight thousand dollars per course they teach
despite anti-union sentiment despite the hostility of all kinds of
forces when the unions got the adjuncts together which they did and they voted
sixteen to one to have this contract and the fight for it the university decided
it's wiser to come to terms than to try to defeat something when workers are
that unified and that determined now of course let's be fair here is it a
victory for labor for sure is it a recognition of the grotesque
underpayment of adjuncts across the United States for sure but let's be real
adjuncts remain even if they are paid seven or eight thousand dollars per
course much cheaper as a way of providing instruction than having the
old system of professors teaching two to three to four courses and getting a
proper salary you can live on so universities are still moving to the
cheap but they're not as able to exploit when workers begin to push back
who knows if the adjuncts keep at it we may reconstruct the really fine
educational system at the higher level that we once had and now some more
examples of how we can do better than capitalism the next one has to do with
the Burberry company you know the ones who make those famous British style
raincoats and plaid outfits of one kind or another they were recently caught and
exposed in the press for having burned burned tens of millions of dollars of
goods they had produced coats clothing of various kinds and so on why did they
do that answer to protect our brand see they were afraid that these perfectly
good new coats jackets boots you name it would get into
the hands of discounters and become available at discount clothing shops
this for them would threaten their profits so here's what they did they
burned clothing that could have helped countless people tens maybe hundreds of
thousands of people could have had important clothing and it wasn't
destroyed because of Burberry I'm not interested in attacking Burberry they
did what other companies do because it's the logic of capitalism to make a profit
if you're a high-end producer you've got to make sure that
folks can't find your stuff at a lower price and if that means destroying what
could close people that's what you do the fault here isn't Burberry the fault
is a system that makes that irrational action destroying brand-new clothing
logical the system is the problem here's another sad statistic that
suggests we can do better than capitalism 25 to 34 year olds in the
United States have been dying annually from alcohol-related liver disease in
record numbers growing rapidly over the last few years and as per the reporting
of the NPR system the economic troubles of the United States are the logical
conclusions making it were capitalism can kill does it pay us to find
alternatives to a system that drives young people in the prime of their lives
to die from alcohol-related diseases we can't do better than a system that works
that way sure we can and now the last one and I leave it for last only because
in the sense it is so grotesque a critique of capitalism that I want to
say it slowly so it sinks in airlines in the United States
who have been doing quite well in recent years partly because of organizing their
roots so that airplanes are full because we just don't have that much choice as
we once did have decided they can make even more money and so here's what
they've done and if you don't believe this let me urge you NBC News has a big
nice spread on this go look it up you'll get the details what the airline
companies that producers together with the airline companies that fly you have
worked out is they have narrowed the walls of the lavatories they've not only
narrowed the wall to enable us I guess in the rest of the airplane to hear
what's going on inside there but they've also narrowed the space so you better
learn how to do what brings you into the bathroom in a narrower space than you're
accustomed to you won't just be a sardine in your seat in the main part of
the plane you'll now be an even greater squeezed sardine when you're in the
bathroom and why they have no shame so they tell us why it will allow them to
squeeze in another roll of 2 to 3 seats right there in the back of the airplane
where the lavatory for most folks is yes it's a way of profiting the airline and
the 1% of Americans who own most airline stocks at the expense of the millions of
people who ride the airplanes and yes once again capitalism divides us because
if you have enough money to sit in business class or first class rest easy
those bathrooms aren't being shrunken just the ones where most of us sit
that's where they're being shrunk that's a system called capitalism
than by profit that constantly finds ways mostly hidden but some of them like
this one you can't really hide it finds ways to hide or disguise prioritizing
profits over people's needs over people's comforts of course we can do
better than that especially when we see clearly what that
is and where it leads as a system that does it for the first part of the show
but before we meet today's guests folks associated with a Toys R Us toy chain,

welcome back friends to the second half of Economic Update for today it is my
pleasure and my honor to welcome two guests we normally have one but today
we're doubly fortunate we have two and both of them have been involved with
something that occasioned today's program namely the clothing of an iconic
store here in the United States Toys R Us so I want to introduce my guests and
then we'll get into a conversation of what happened to that remarkable
nationwide store my first guest is Cheryl Claude she is an assistant
manager or rather she was an assistant manager at Toys R Us in Woodbridge New
Jersey she's been with the company for 33 years and is one of the thousands of
Toys R Us employees who have not received severance pay
since the store closed she is helping to lead the movement for severance pay for
33,000 laid off employees of the toys-r-us company this movement backed
by rise up retail also calls for greater accountability of the Wall Street
private equity firms Bain Capital and KKR that were responsible for the
bankruptcy and liquidation that we're going to be talking about our second
guest is Charles Kahn is an organizing director at the Strong Economy For All
Coalition he has many things to his credit but the one that caught my eye
that I want to share with you is that he's a leader with the hedge clippers a
national organization dedicated to shining a light on the damage that
private equity and hedge funds have on our communities and making sure that
they are held accountable welcome Charles welcome good to be here thank
you okay so let's start for our audience tell us what happened to the toys-r-us
corporation and what it meant for you Cheryl why don't we start with you well
I've been with the company 33 years and when 2005 when KKR Varnado
and Bain Capital took over our company they just drained us they just took all
our money invested it and just drained it and that's they took everything from
us I mean everything including your job my job itself and made us go bankrupt
yes just a simple question did the company look like it was doing well that
your job was secure that your future looked pretty good in all the years that
you were there leading up to this toys-r-us was profitable yeah they made
11 billion dollars last year 11 billion dollars nobody of your hold
the hole yeah absolutely absolutely I thought I was gonna retire
from the company right so you didn't regret your decision to work with them
absolutely not okay absolutely I thought I was gonna retire from the company I
felt I felt my job was secure and when did you kind of get the message oh
something's really wrong here in 2005 when we when we didn't have
we didn't have picnics we used to have all this stuff in 2005 every we didn't
have anything anymore okay and I think part of what happened
is you know when when Bain and KKR and Vornado took over they changed the the
soul of the company instead of investing in their workers they decided to charge
exorbitant fees and enrich themselves and in the end that's really the story
of what happened to the company instead of investing in their workers their
workers used to have better benefits there were certain workers used to have
stock options instead of that there were fees they didn't tell the workers what
was going on with the company and ultimately the debt that they loaded the
company up with is what led to an 11 billion dollar a year company filing for
bankruptcy for those who don't know the familiarity with it this is a fairly
common occurrence in American capitalism in which sometimes people called
corporate raiders or words to that effect see an opportunity to borrow a
ton of money and buy a company from whoever owns it not with the intention
of keeping the company going not with the intention of growing the company but
with the intention of making a lot of lenders very wealthy by paying huge
interest fees for the money that used to borrow the company and paying themselves
a lot of fees to manage the company and then if it goes downhill if the next 10
years it disappears as long as they've gotten the interest payments and the
fees along the way they're happy and the loss is to the community that doesn't
have the store to the workers that don't have a job and to the local communities
that don't have the tax payments at stores that are successful make and in a
sense you particularly you sure are a victim of how this system how this
system works tell me how much blame do you put for this on the people who had
the company before and how much do you criticize Bain KKR and the other
came in since what happened in 1905 sorry and 25 seems to be a crucial
moment in changing the history of all this I mean I think what Cheryl will
tell you what other workers will tell you is that the company really changed
direction in 2005 that's really when Toys R Us began this downward spiral
right Vornado Bank acara they forced them to sell the the land that their
stores are on to pay rent you know in any homeowner would know that rent is
not is not what you want to be paying they change the culture they charged all
of these fees and I think the blame squarely lies on them and that's the
story that we've heard that is what the facts have represented and that's why so
many elected officials and so many media outlets have come out with really strong
support of the workers because it's so clear what happened and it's also really
clear that didn't need to happen it was excessive greed that caused it to happen
they can make money another way in this system these people can use borrowing
and all the laws that exists to do this I mean they're free to do it and you
were a spectator you and the other workers in a sense were a spectator to
your own situation unraveling on you what did you do how did you handle those
years what did you tell yourself as this was unfolding I just told myself to just
keep doing I mean I had to stay with the company I mean there was nothing that I
had to supply my work to live employees I tried to keep the employees happy and
keep moving I stayed to the very very end because
that was that was me I worked hard I stayed to the end
I stayed to the June 30th I was the one that locked that door when I locked that
door put the key in the box that's that was me I worked I worked very hard for
that company to walk away with nothing and that's what they literally did they
don't you you're done yeah and that actually there was no other no other
manager in the building it was me in the liquidator we boxed up the registers put
the key in the box walked out the door that was it how did it affect the other
workers around they didn't even want to work anymore they came in left I mean
they they didn't have the will to work they said how are you
happy I said I have to be happy this was my life 33 years I spent in that
building I've worked in four different stores in the 33 years three different
stores I worked in one store for 28 years and it's a total of 33,000 people,
33,000t employees, more or less in your situation, absolutely all over the country all over
the country and did the company do anything they did nothing for us they
gave us 60 days 60 60 days to work and that was our that they said that was our
severance pay 60 days they gave us work yeah and I think did you have to come in
to work though yeah that was the only pay they were giving us it was 60 days
worth the work and I said I think what was another narrative that's happened is
that last year in was a December they gave some work workers the option to
leave and take severance pay what they also said is that if we have a
strong holiday season the company's gonna pull through so a lot of workers
like Cheryl have dedicated their lives to this company decided today right and
when the company went under right what is but after the holiday season they
were still telling the workers we're gonna take care of you you know
everything's gonna be okay and then the story changed and that's why so why all
of those 3,000 workers are fighting for for what they're owed
right they were promised severance pay they were promised some kind of
restitution for the for putting their lives into this company you know working
in retail you miss holidays you know all the holidays where most of us go up to
shop or spend time with our families they're there they're punching their
time cards it's like the dedication the dedication I had with that company
I miss my daughter's quit high school graduation my father died was in
February I was out and my father passed away in February and then I came back to
work that week and that's what they told me that I didn't have a job after that
you know this is an old story the companies never want to tell the workers
the truth absolutely because they don't want you to leave on your skin that's
right they want you to leave they're scared
so that's why the funny stories one way or the other or the possibility holds a
little out for you in the hope that something will survive so that they can
make the break when it's convenient and profitable for them rather than for you
that's why in a number of European countries there are strict laws that
require an employer to notify six months or a year in advance so that the burden
of the adjustment is not entirely on a on a labor force they have to take the
risk also of what it is they're doing to the community in this country they don't
have to do hardly anything and so the chips fall and it's a social disaster
let me ask you a couple of questions was there any involvement when workers
brought in in any way to try to deal with the situation all the way they were
bringing people in a month before we're getting ready to close just to cover and
the people that were leaving temporary I thought that was disgusting because we
couldn't hold the people because everybody was leaving because they were
they were angry I mean how could I mean I felt bad for the temporary people that
were coming in how do you bring temporary people in until they got
thirty they used to work just ringing registered that's all they wonder for
and to clean the store I just really felt bad for the people and they said
how can you be so happy because that's the kind of person I am even though
we're closing what about the government were there any governmental supports to
help was there anything that either local state or federal government was
able or willing to do to intervene and do something about a disaster for 33,000
people and the communities they come from so I think that elected officials
and many government officials have posts through the bankruptcy announcement come
to stand with the workers what we're at where we're also advocating for is is
not just for the workers to be paid what they're owed but then also what can we
do and what should we be doing to prevent this from happening in the
future because toys-r-us is another victim in
long story of greed confirm Wall Street on and on the part of our economy and if
we want to make a change to our economy our financial system to really talk
about what capitalism looks like in our country these elected officials that
we've been working with like Bernie Sanders who's come out in support like
Cory Booker who's in New Jersey where Cheryl lives and they've come out and
support and we're talking about changing laws right to outlaw leveraged buyouts
right that put that saddl companies with unsustainable amounts of debt to turn
private equity into joint employers so they're also responsible right they
can't say Oh hands off we don't we don't own the company anymore
and then also governors like Mark Dayton in Minnesota right Bain KKR they have
hold billions of dollars in pension fund money right that's that's how they make
a ton you know these that's how they buy their Rolls Royce right it's pension
money and governor Mark Dayton in in Minnesota ceased all future investment
in KKR until an investigation is done they are doing what they can to hold
these Wall Street firms accountable and I think what we'll need to see in the
future is more kinds of action more kinds of commitment and more like that
official of standing with workers so we can start to not only change the
narrative but change that the tangible circumstances that so many American so
many workers are facing am i right to infer from what you've said that if the
workers themselves owned and operated Toys R Us
you would never have sold it to okay you wouldn't have done it because you would
have understood in a sense absolutely what was in store for absolutely
absolutely it's something for people to think of absolutely we've come to the
end of the first part of our conversation I want to thank you both
for sharing this story it's a sad story but it can have a good ending if people
learn from it and I want to thank all of you for watching I'm finding this is
important the story I hope as we did and I want to remind you that
this conversation and this interview will continue on our patreon channel
patreon.com slash economic update and I hope you will join us there to continue
it otherwise I look forward to speaking with you next week

to show you guys about this dive case in just a second but incidentally this is
model number DW - 1 7 1 DW 1 71 in it's their mark 1 series of this automatic
dive watch but if we open this guy up very typical diver case Pelican type
case I'm seeing a lot of micro brain watch companies especially with dive
watches using these cases these days but something really cool the
Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company
they did with this specific case is it's a three slot case so this case could
actually be repurposed it's almost like a travel case to carry three watches
with you which I thought was pretty cool instead of just cutting the styrofoam
out with one centre slit one interesting thing that I will point out though is
you can get and actually cut replacement foam for these Pelican style dive cases
so in the event that you have a watch case from another manufacturer that
wasn't smart enough to think this far ahead and do this for its customers you Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company
can actually fabricate your own watch case I'd carry multiple watches in a
case this size one thing about micro brand watch companies that I love is
they tend to put a lot of attention into what their customer wants and Tim D
Industries is one of those companies that I think does that very well so by
the inclusion of the the three slot case and then the multiple straps that come
along with this mark one pretty much gives you everything you need but we're
gonna take it one step further here in just a second but let's just take a walk
around this real quick now I mentioned Keith the owner of TMD industries is a
leather crafter and look at this gorgeous gorgeous leather strap that
came with it high polish on that buckle and then I just like I really like the
texture of that this strap doesn't feel waxy doesn't feel cheap it feels like
very very nicely made strap you can see embossed or imprinted with their tmd
industries Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company logo right there at the bottom really nice watch strap this is
really cool which I can't wait to get this on the watch this is their
stainless steel bracelet now the stainless steel bracelet uses a
combination of high polish and brushed finishes which I think make it look
really sharp incidentally these are solid links theirs are not hollow links
like you see sometimes in micro brand watch
needs to save weight for me personally I love a heavy heavy watch so this
bracelet is gonna fit the bill for that perfectly one interesting thing to point
out that I have not seen other watch companies do I'm sure other people to do
it not sure if they do it this exact same way but personally I have never Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company
seen it before is they have a push-button ratchet system for their for
their divert extension so it's actually a slide you can see you can extend that
bracelet to fit over your dive suit and then it's got a push button release with
micro adjustments right there in that buckle but I just I don't know I think
that ratcheting system you can see a better look at the ratcheting system
there on the inside it's just a really really neat addition to this stainless
steel bracelet we'll get to the watch in a minute but I want to take a look at
this with you guys because this is kind of cool this comes right with it we're
gonna clean stuff out of the way it's just a little Tim Dean industries box
and what do we have in here we have all sorts of goodies that come with this
watch I believe they call this their assembly kit let's actually walk this
out and see what it looks like so in here we have a looks to be a pad to hold
the watch while you're working on it and not damage it leather on tap felt on the
bottom or sponge almost so you can set it down and then work on your watch
without it sliding around so that's pretty cool we have a microfiber
polishing cloth of course we have the warranty card we look at the back April
16th 2018 this is model number DW 171 and Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company
this is the mark 1 model now this mark 1 model is too
ooh zero two of 30 mate there's only 30 of these guys that are mean then going a
little bit further we get some tools to work on watch there's a couple small
screwdrivers on the purpose of the screwdrivers are because this stainless
steel bracelet has screw in links now there's a lot of watch companies out
there that do use the screws for their sizing system and I always appreciate it
when they actually include the screwdrivers now I have a bunch of
screwdrivers myself but um they don't always fit perfectly and then you end up
having trouble and it's it's just a paint-and-body if you guys saw my last
video you know I'm not awesome at resizing watches so I appreciate when
the manufacturer includes tools to do it there's also a couple extra pins in
there and then a stretching equal that all come right with this mark 1 so if we
want to take a close-up look at this mark one from TMD industries
specifically the first thing off the bat that I noticed on this watch when I took
it out of the box was that high polished finish you know one of the things that I
really really love and have really appreciate is a watch manufacturer
taking the time to put a really really nice finish on their cases I think you
know it can sometimes make or break a watch now
I've talked about this before I don't know how to explain this finish and what
I mean by that is this is so smooth I might the only word I can use to
describe it is buttery um it's just so soft and so smooth just absolutely love
that finish the problem with finishes like this though is like you see me
doing right now I'm constantly rubbing finger prints off of them they are a
fingerprint magnet but I think it's really really good-looking on it on
watch and then when you couple that high polish finished with the brushed finish
on the top of this watch I just think it gives it a really really nice contour
the other thing you'll notice about it is that domed sapphire bezel with insert
and then that black enamel dial now both on the enzyme sorry the bezel insert as
well as the dial with the ax plate applied raise indices on that guy is
rockin B gw9 loom so I believe that's a blue loom and I cannot wait to get this
guy charged up so I can see what the low light visibility looks like on it one
thing that I like from a design standpoint on this watch are those our
hands and are out of those hour minute and second hands that second hand is
almost like a snowflake approach of the sword minute hand and then that heavy
heavy arrow our hand I'm a huge fan of really really heavy looking minute in
our hands not real dainty so I I like the aesthetics of this watch over at
that 9 o'clock position we do have a helium escape valve on the reason being
behind that is because this dive watch actually has a 20 ATM water resistance
we go over to the other side you'll notice we have the TMD logo right there Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company
on that screw down crown that logo one thing that's really really neat about
that logo I'm sorry that that engraving on that crown is it doesn't look cheap
um there's a lot of times where I'll see a watch company that just you know they
don't put the effort into their engravings so they don't always come off
as clean as you would like them to be you can see right here I do have this
guy on the black NATO strap that it came with however if we take this guy off the
NATO strap it has a really really really neat case back on this watch with that
engraved heavy heavy engraved case back you can see right there says
tmd industries the model number mark 1 and then 0 to of 30 as I mentioned there
are only 30 of these in this color
combination made they have a mark 3 available but this mark 1 is actually
sold out on their website also right there on that case back you can see this
watch is powered by that ETA caliber 28 24 - movement which if you're not
familiar whether it's a 25 jewelled meant and is really really a workhorse
in in the watch industry one thing that I just noticed also that I didn't
previously notice is you can see on that catch that's also got the TMT logo right
there so their attention to detail with this watch build I think is extremely
OnPoint you know I'm that's that's one thing
that really really impresses me about this watch is just how they went through
every single aspect of it to to make sure it was perfect
now I did mention that this mark one is sold out on their website but they do
have a mark 3 available so I definitely recommend you check out their website at
tmd industries dot-com and check out their mark 3 model these surprisingly
enough with this fit and finish and that ETA movement these are only going for
478 dollars and 55 cents retail and that's manufactured suggestive price
available to everybody right off their website which to me after having this
watch in my hand and seeing everything you get with it that's an extremely
extremely good price tmd Industries is not one of those companies that plays
the MSRP markup game they're valuing this watch at thousands of dollars they
are valuing it at what personally I believe this watch is well worth alright
guys so that was the mark one from Tim D industries just want to give a big shout
out and thank you to Scott over at watches galore his video of this watch
is posted up in the description section down below but just wanted to thank him
for organizing this watch tour with this guy will be going back to him very
shortly so Keith it's on its way to have no worries guys I really really really
like this watch and this is one of those one of those watches that I knew nothing
about didn't even know they existed until I got my hands on it and I'm
really really thankful to have been able to see this watch um just pieces that
fit and finish on that guy's you know fit and finish is huge for me attention
to detail is huge for me and Tim D Industries is on point with that so
definitely check them how if you have not already
Tim D industries comm is their website also don't forget to check out a bunch
of the other channels that have reviewed this watch as well bunch like Erin over
at ofd watch Channel Peter van panda Marshall time Bob time to go over a time
to go timepieces and travel travel and timepieces again sorry Bob I always
messed that up all these guys did some really really
outstanding videos with these watches these guys know their stuff so
definitely check them home anyway guys I'm gonna get out of here got a couple
things to do today but don't forget to stop back towards the end of the week
and we have that black falcon review from MTM special-ops thank you guys and
have a great week
you Mark I Dive Watch Unboxing - Best New Microbrand Watch Company

5 KPOP IDOLS you pronounce INCORRECTLY + BTS GIVEAWAY! - Duration: 10:41.Hi everybody this is Lara!
Really many of you asked me to make a video about Korean lesson!
Today I'm going to teach you how to pronounce Korean idols' names
just like Koreans
but before I start the video, is there anybody who's interested in
making friends for interested in Korean and just like you?
if you are , there's a really good app called Amino
It's a community and with millions of different communities
and the community that I want to show you today is the
Korean school amino community
so let me show you with my iPhone briefly
so there are lots of things you can do here
firstly you can have a chat with the members
who are interested in Korean just like you
you can even do the voice chat so you can practice speaking Korean
Secondly there are really fun and easy quizzes to see if you can get it right
well it's easy for me but if you're curious
play the quizzes!
So to encourage you to use this app
I prepared the BTS giveaway!!!!!!!!!!
This is my first ever giveaway
This is how it works
I'll choose two winners
and the winners will get the BTS good
If you want to see the goods that are prepared for the winners
please what's the video the images are in the middle of the video
To participate in my BTS giveaway,
First step! Click the link in the description box
and download the Amino app
Secondly, join the Korean school community
thirdly, leave a comment on the post that I posted(search woolara62)
Only these three steps sooo easy right?
The winners will be announced on my Instagram Twitter
and the post on amino app,
so make sure to follow all of them
If you're done let's begin the video!
So the first k-pop group that you might pronounce incorrectly
would be EXO
Yeah we Korean call EXO as EXO too
but the pronunciation is different
EXO is English and EXO is Korean
so how you call them is totally same
but the pronunciation how to pronounce it is totally different
EXO EXO EXO EXO
if you watched my previous video
giving you some tips how to pronounce Korean correctly
if you missed that video please click here
Anyway in that video I told you that you have to pronounce
somewhat somehow lazily
if you want your EXO pronunciation to be like Koreans like EXO
It should be very abrupt, short and clear
so EXO there's no oww sound
so you should be like EXO EXO EXO
I personally feel like EXO(ENG) is pronounced about here
but EXO(KOR) is like here so you have to make your voice higher
so compared to the EX in English
Korean EX I would be like EX
EX(KOR) EX(ENG) EX(ENG) EX(KOR)
Clearly different right?
Make your voice higher and don't drag it too much
The second k-pop group you might pronounce incorrectly is
SEVENTEEN
So, in English it's SEVENTEEN right?
So teen is longer than seven
but in Korean all three letters SEVENTEEN
are the same length so it should be like SEVENTEEN(KOR)
not SEVENTEEN Also in seven there's V sound
but in Korean there's no V sound so it should be like B sound
SE BEN TEEN
Not SEVENTEEN
Pronounce all those letters in the same length SEVENTEEN
The third kpop group that you might pronounce incorrectly
is BLACKPINK
In Korean we call them as BLACKPINK
BLACKPINK it's only two syllables
but in Korean BL ACK PIN K so four syllables
so it's doubled, right? black black(KOR) black black(KOR)
pink pink(KOR) BLACKPINK
and all those BLACKPINK
four syllables all those letters should be pronounced in the same length
If you want to express yourself that you love them so much
you can always say BLACKPINKUUUUU
The forth Kpop group is the
Twice
so in black pink case
Two syllables became four syllables in Korean
but how about Twice?
Can you guess?
please guess how many syllables it wouldbe in Korean
Twice, guess what? It's four syllables
twice twice twice
as I said every sound should be pronounced very clearly
so twice twice
you can you can really hear that there are four sounds
twic(only easy for Koreans...?)
So it became Twice
and the last. fifth Kpop group that you might pronounce wrong
is BTS
In BTS's case is quite different from other Kpop groups that I showed you
because until I met all of you my WOOWOOS!!
I didn't know that BangTan SoNyeonDan is called BTS in abroad
some Korean wouldn't know BTS is BangTan SoNyeonDan
so if you want to call them BTS like Koreans
it should be like BangTan SoNyeonDan I know it's hard to pronounce
but if you ever meet BTS and if you just say BangTan SoNyeonDan
like Koreans, they would be impressed!
Anyway how to pronounce BangTan SoNyeonDan
Firstly those are five syllables
English Bang and in Korean Bang is very similar
it's not hard Tan is also very similar
BANGTAN. Of course if you pronounce bangtan like this in English tone
It's a bit weird
Pronounce it in a higher pitch
and also make it very clear don't drag any sound
Not like Bang Taaan
Bangtan Bangtan
And, SO
it's also same SO it's not like so- in English
and the next Nyeon
the length that you pronounce so and the length that you pronounce nyeon
should be very similar or very same
so it should be like bangtan sonyeon not bangtan sonyeeeoondan
so Nyeon, nyeon. Make it very clear and very short
For last is dan. it's not DAN
Don't put any rhythms there it's not dan(eng) it's dan(Kor)
In the complete form its bangtan sonyeondan
so if you're ready to pronounce BTS like
bangtan sonyeondan, just like Koreans,
I think it's time to show you the giveaway gifts for you
I know the members of the BTS
But I can't match them with the characters that I prepared
so as I said there will be two winners
and each winner will get one of these
Hand sanitizer gels!
So one will get this.,
the other will get this one
and for next I prepared the nail stickers
Each winners will get two of these in a box
it's completely random so in a box there will be like this
Two nail stickers and one hand sanitizer gel
it's not done yet
TADA!!
BTS photo cards
isn't it so cute!!!!
so these photo cards will be in the box randomly
So if you want to be the winner to get these items
that I prepared for you guys
please participate the giveaway my first giveaway event!!
How to participate: I explained it earlier
It's just simple Download the amino app
Join the Korean school community
and search me there(woolara62) and leave the comment
and there will be some instructions how to participate
in posting as well
and also I mentioned that the winner will be announced
on my Instagram and Twitter
and also the post, so be sure to follow my Twitter(woolara62)
and Instagram(woolara62)

Republican governors nobody dares to mess with their public bank here's
another example of how we can do better than capitalism Fordham University in
New York City a Jesuit institution just signed a contract with their
non-tenure-track faculty usually called adjuncts the contract gives these
adjuncts teachers who teach one or two courses raises between get ready sixty
seven and ninety percent the SEIU union representing these faculty edge
it's says that they will be getting at the end of this three-year contract
between seven and eight thousand dollars per course they teach
despite anti-union sentiment despite the hostility of all kinds of
forces when the unions got the adjuncts together which they did and they voted
sixteen to one to have this contract and the fight for it the university decided
it's wiser to come to terms than to try to defeat something when workers are
that unified and that determined now of course let's be fair here is it a
victory for labor for sure is it a recognition of the grotesque
underpayment of adjuncts across the United States for sure but let's be real
adjuncts remain even if they are paid seven or eight thousand dollars per
course much cheaper as a way of providing instruction than having the
old system of professors teaching two to three to four courses and getting a
proper salary you can live on so universities are still moving to the
cheap but they're not as able to exploit when workers begin to push back
who knows if the adjuncts keep at it we may reconstruct the really fine
educational system at the higher level that we once had and now some more
examples of how we can do better than capitalism the next one has to do with
the Burberry company you know the ones who make those famous British style
raincoats and plaid outfits of one kind or another they were recently caught and
exposed in the press for having burned burned tens of millions of dollars of
goods they had produced coats clothing of various kinds and so on why did they
do that answer to protect our brand see they were afraid that these perfectly
good new coats jackets boots you name it would get into
the hands of discounters and become available at discount clothing shops
this for them would threaten their profits so here's what they did they
burned clothing that could have helped countless people tens maybe hundreds of
thousands of people could have had important clothing and it wasn't
destroyed because of Burberry I'm not interested in attacking Burberry they
did what other companies do because it's the logic of capitalism to make a profit
if you're a high-end producer you've got to make sure that
folks can't find your stuff at a lower price and if that means destroying what
could close people that's what you do the fault here isn't Burberry the fault
is a system that makes that irrational action destroying brand-new clothing
logical the system is the problem here's another sad statistic that
suggests we can do better than capitalism 25 to 34 year olds in the
United States have been dying annually from alcohol-related liver disease in
record numbers growing rapidly over the last few years and as per the reporting
of the NPR system the economic troubles of the United States are the logical
conclusions making it were capitalism can kill does it pay us to find
alternatives to a system that drives young people in the prime of their lives
to die from alcohol-related diseases we can't do better than a system that works
that way sure we can and now the last one and I leave it for last only because
in the sense it is so grotesque a critique of capitalism that I want to
say it slowly so it sinks in airlines in the United States
who have been doing quite well in recent years partly because of organizing their
roots so that airplanes are full because we just don't have that much choice as
we once did have decided they can make even more money and so here's what
they've done and if you don't believe this let me urge you NBC News has a big
nice spread on this go look it up you'll get the details what the airline
companies that producers together with the airline companies that fly you have
worked out is they have narrowed the walls of the lavatories they've not only
narrowed the wall to enable us I guess in the rest of the airplane to hear
what's going on inside there but they've also narrowed the space so you better
learn how to do what brings you into the bathroom in a narrower space than you're
accustomed to you won't just be a sardine in your seat in the main part of
the plane you'll now be an even greater squeezed sardine when you're in the
bathroom and why they have no shame so they tell us why it will allow them to
squeeze in another roll of 2 to 3 seats right there in the back of the airplane
where the lavatory for most folks is yes it's a way of profiting the airline and
the 1% of Americans who own most airline stocks at the expense of the millions of
people who ride the airplanes and yes once again capitalism divides us because
if you have enough money to sit in business class or first class rest easy
those bathrooms aren't being shrunken just the ones where most of us sit
that's where they're being shrunk that's a system called capitalism
than by profit that constantly finds ways mostly hidden but some of them like
this one you can't really hide it finds ways to hide or disguise prioritizing
profits over people's needs over people's comforts of course we can do
better than that especially when we see clearly what that
is and where it leads as a system that does it for the first part of the show

welcome back friends to the second half of Economic Update for today it is my
pleasure and my honor to welcome two guests we normally have one but today
we're doubly fortunate we have two and both of them have been involved with
something that occasioned today's program namely the clothing of an iconic
store here in the United States Toys R Us so I want to introduce my guests and
then we'll get into a conversation of what happened to that remarkable
nationwide store my first guest is Cheryl Claude she is an assistant
manager or rather she was an assistant manager at Toys R Us in Woodbridge New
Jersey she's been with the company for 33 years and is one of the thousands of
Toys R Us employees who have not received severance pay
since the store closed she is helping to lead the movement for severance pay for
33,000 laid off employees of the toys-r-us company this movement backed
by rise up retail also calls for greater accountability of the Wall Street
private equity firms Bain Capital and KKR that were responsible for the
bankruptcy and liquidation that we're going to be talking about our second
guest is Charles Kahn is an organizing director at the Strong Economy For All
Coalition he has many things to his credit but the one that caught my eye
that I want to share with you is that he's a leader with the hedge clippers a
national organization dedicated to shining a light on the damage that
private equity and hedge funds have on our communities and making sure that
they are held accountable welcome Charles welcome good to be here thank
you okay so let's start for our audience tell us what happened to the toys-r-us
corporation and what it meant for you Cheryl why don't we start with you well
I've been with the company 33 years and when 2005 when KKR Varnado
and Bain Capital took over our company they just drained us they just took all
our money invested it and just drained it and that's they took everything from
us I mean everything including your job my job itself and made us go bankrupt
yes just a simple question did the company look like it was doing well that
your job was secure that your future looked pretty good in all the years that
you were there leading up to this toys-r-us was profitable yeah they made
11 billion dollars last year 11 billion dollars nobody of your hold
the hole yeah absolutely absolutely I thought I was gonna retire
from the company right so you didn't regret your decision to work with them
absolutely not okay absolutely I thought I was gonna retire from the company I
felt I felt my job was secure and when did you kind of get the message oh
something's really wrong here in 2005 when we when we didn't have
we didn't have picnics we used to have all this stuff in 2005 every we didn't
have anything anymore okay and I think part of what happened
is you know when when Bain and KKR and Vornado took over they changed the the
soul of the company instead of investing in their workers they decided to charge
exorbitant fees and enrich themselves and in the end that's really the story
of what happened to the company instead of investing in their workers their
workers used to have better benefits there were certain workers used to have
stock options instead of that there were fees they didn't tell the workers what
was going on with the company and ultimately the debt that they loaded the
company up with is what led to an 11 billion dollar a year company filing for
bankruptcy for those who don't know the familiarity with it this is a fairly
common occurrence in American capitalism in which sometimes people called
corporate raiders or words to that effect see an opportunity to borrow a
ton of money and buy a company from whoever owns it not with the intention
of keeping the company going not with the intention of growing the company but
with the intention of making a lot of lenders very wealthy by paying huge
interest fees for the money that used to borrow the company and paying themselves
a lot of fees to manage the company and then if it goes downhill if the next 10
years it disappears as long as they've gotten the interest payments and the
fees along the way they're happy and the loss is to the community that doesn't
have the store to the workers that don't have a job and to the local communities
that don't have the tax payments at stores that are successful make and in a
sense you particularly you sure are a victim of how this system how this
system works tell me how much blame do you put for this on the people who had
the company before and how much do you criticize Bain KKR and the other
came in since what happened in 1905 sorry and 25 seems to be a crucial
moment in changing the history of all this I mean I think what Cheryl will
tell you what other workers will tell you is that the company really changed
direction in 2005 that's really when Toys R Us began this downward spiral
right Vornado Bank acara they forced them to sell the the land that their
stores are on to pay rent you know in any homeowner would know that rent is
not is not what you want to be paying they change the culture they charged all
of these fees and I think the blame squarely lies on them and that's the
story that we've heard that is what the facts have represented and that's why so
many elected officials and so many media outlets have come out with really strong
support of the workers because it's so clear what happened and it's also really
clear that didn't need to happen it was excessive greed that caused it to happen
they can make money another way in this system these people can use borrowing
and all the laws that exists to do this I mean they're free to do it and you
were a spectator you and the other workers in a sense were a spectator to
your own situation unraveling on you what did you do how did you handle those
years what did you tell yourself as this was unfolding I just told myself to just
keep doing I mean I had to stay with the company I mean there was nothing that I
had to supply my work to live employees I tried to keep the employees happy and
keep moving I stayed to the very very end because
that was that was me I worked hard I stayed to the end

TV Spinoffs That Never Quite Made It To Air - Duration: 5:19.In this era of endless sequels, reboots, and reunions, no successful screen property is
ever really complete.
With television in particular, a big finale doesn't necessarily spell the end anymore.
Sometimes, it's a no-brainer that an ultra-popular original series will get a spinoff, and once
it does, the follow-up becomes beloved in its own right.
But other times, audiences fall in love with a promised spinoff, only to see it fizzle
out before it even debuts.
Here are some of the TV spinoffs that never quite made it to air.
How I Met Your Dad
How I Met Your Mother attracted millions of faithful viewers who stuck around for nine
seasons to find out the full story of how Ted Mosby fell in love with his kids' mystery
mom.
The finale ended up disappointing plenty of fans, but there was a chance to wash that
bad taste away with a spinoff that CBS ordered in 2014.
How I Met Your Dad was to star Greta Gerwig, but CBS was unhappy with the first pilot and
unable to agree on conditions for a second.
Casting and rights ownership issues were also later cited as reasons the network preemptively
pulled the plug.
The Farm
In 2012, as The Office's final season loomed, NBC execs worked with Rainn Wilson to develop
a potential spin off centered around his character Dwight Schrute.
Entitled The Farm, it would focus on Dwight's vegetable farm and bed and breakfast, and
all the strange figures in his personal life.
"Growing up with Dwight and Mose, was not easy, Dwight was obviously the cool one, and
Mose was the visionary, which left me to be the comedian"
Unfortunately, the network was unimpressed.
Most of the scenes shot for the would-be backdoor pilot made it into an episode of The Office's
last season, but NBC had already decided that they wouldn't turn The Farm into a series.
The Office may eventually return in some form, however.
In late 2017, reports surfaced that NBC was again considering a way to revive the cult
favorite comedy with a new series featuring a mix of returning stars and newcomers.
Valley Girls
The CW's Gossip Girl was a very successful teen soap opera, brimming with bonkers storylines
while also being tongue in cheek.
At the height of its popularity during the second season, the wheels started turning
on a potential spinoff called Valley Girls.
The series would have launched with the second season episode of the same name, which flashed
back to the teen years of Serena van der Woodsen's mother Lily, as played by Brittany Snow.
It was set in 1980s Los Angeles, instead of Gossip Girl's cushy digs on Manhattan's Upper
East Side.
The cast also featured Krysten Ritter as Lily's sister, along with guest appearances from
No Doubt and '80s icon Andrew McCarthy.
But shortly before the season 2 episode aired, the CW quietly backed away from the spin-off
project.
Aquaman
The long-running superhero series Smallville followed Clark Kent's life in the title town
before he became Superman.
It enjoyed strong viewership and featured a cavalcade of supporting characters whose
lives and adventures could potentially be explored further.
A season 5 episode featuring Alan Ritchson as A.C. Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman, inspired a
potential standalone series for the character, with actor Justin Hartley taking over the
role.
The CW ultimately declined to pick up the series, instead releasing the pilot as a standalone
feature.
But it didn't work out so bad for Hartley, as he later joined Smallville as Oliver Queen,
a.k.a. the Green Arrow.
In 2018, Hartley revealed that there had also been plans for a spinoff featuring himself
as Oliver and Erica Durance as Lois Lane.
Instead, those characters remained on Smallville, while a separate Green Arrow series later
premiered on The CW in 2012.
The Chatterbox
With the possible exception of Steve Urkel, no sitcom star's voice has ever been quite
as iconic as Fran Drescher's on The Nanny.
She was at once charming and annoying, trashy but still sophisticated.
As the show became a hit and introduced several characters from Fran's past, CBS was ready
to consider a spinoff.
A backdoor pilot, entitled "The Chatterbox," aired late in The Nanny's second season.
It took place at Fran's favorite hair salon and introduced viewers to the new characters
who worked there.
But despite some earnest efforts by the would-be spinoff's cast members, The Chatterbox never
made it onto CBS's schedule.
Assignment: Earth
There have been numerous versions of Star Trek over the years.
In fact, one of the earliest attempted spinoffs happened near the beginning of the original
series' run.
In the second season episode "Assignment: Earth," actor Gary Lansing was introduced
as Gary Seven, a time-hopping alien on a mission to save humanity with his trusty cat by his
side.
"Computer, record the following.
Unless agents are found immediately, must undertake their mission"
The episode was meant to serve as a backdoor pilot, but the original series itself was
in danger of cancellation, so Assignment: Earth was never picked up.
But since then, there has been a seemingly endless number of Star Trek remixes on the
silver, small, and now streaming screens.
So despite this early setback, the franchise has indeed gone on to "live long and prosper."

WHAT happens to DREAMS? - Duration: 4:54.this has reconnected me with a childhood passion that I forgot about
and it was in the fifth grade that I actually I used to work for and I'm not
you could call it working as a child there might be child labor or something
my name is javante welcome to my brand spanking new youtube channel I used to
work for the school news program and so if you remember the announcements like I
pledge allegiance to the flag and then they would have the morning
announcements while our school had a TV newscast that
they would switch over to so after the Pledge of Allegiance and everyone would
tune into the newscast and I would be responsible for helping to produce this
five-minute newscast where we would feature teachers and classrooms mostly
kindergarteners the older students weren't interested in being on the news
but we would have this little digital mixer thing and you know I would get to
make the transitions and set up the cameras and the lighting and that was a
memory that I had lost until I started learning more about camera equipment and
went to Best Buy and started playing with the camera equipment and learning
about different things that I was like oh I remember this feeling and I think
there is something about suppressing dreams and suppressing hopes and
realizing that our reality is not what we dreamed up a time ago and there's
something powerful to reconnect with that like what does it mean to go back
and to reconnect with that dream even if ok no I don't want to be a professional
cinematographer I don't have an idea of filming things for people and Lantana
money that's not my career goal I have to learn how to do a lot of that for
this YouTube project and other digital media projects but that's not my goal
but it's reconnecting me with a part of myself that I didn't even remember was
there that creative wanting to manifest something that is tangible and shareable
with other people and I think that's why success social media is so successful
people really do want to create something tangible and shareable and
that can go negative when folks start taking off their
clothes I'm not coming against taking off your clothes I love the fat pictures
when people just are thirsty for attention without substance right and
there's no substance there that kind of skews negative but when there's
substance as well as creative a creative creativity creativity is the word then
there's a draw there's something to attract our eye and I think naturally as
humans we are just really drawn to creativity and when you combine it with
substance and you combine it with value where I actually learn something or I'm
able to take something away that's that sweet spot where everything just comes
together and people are like I'm gonna share this or I'm gonna like this or I'm
gonna subscribe and so that happens over a development period you know this will
probably be statistically speaking my worst video because I hope to grow with
every video I hope to grow so you'll look back on this in a year if I'm still
doing this and saying your videos are so different now but that's like the
trajectory of growth and I've seen so many youtubers who have those videos and
they say I cringe when I watch my videos and I'll say baby I cringe when I watch
your videos too but it's a part of the growth process I think I'm going to stop
the video right there and just tell you that if I had three things to give you
in this video it would be a fire adapt and adopt I hope that this channel helps
you acquire new skills and information and that you're able to adapt that for
your own personal and then you're able to adopt that for your own practice
acquire adapt and adopt those are my three folks for this project if you
enjoyed my rambling in this video and explanation of why I'm getting on you to
be digging into the social media digital video space subscribe and you know stay
connected and I'll see you I should come up with something else and I'll see you
in the next video
and I'll see you in the next vid so if you're watching just stop
just just in the video just

10 Causes of Depression EVERYONE Needs To Know - Duration: 5:34.(Title) 10 Causes of Depression.
There is not just one thing that causes depression. A lot of other illnesses
there are certain causes. It's like that's it! but what depression it really
depends. What causes depression for you could be something completely different
than somebody else. Which also makes this illness very fascinating to me. If you're
coming here and trying to look for "What is the cause of my depression?" I don't
really have an answer for you. It could be a lot of things but I'm here to give
you a few examples of different causes that have caused other people's depression and
maybe if you're reflecting and being mindful about your own experience maybe
you'll find out what's causing yours. Again this video is not for self diagnosis.
iI's just for awareness and being mindful about our own experiences and
maybe talk to your doctor about some of these causes that you might think is
causing your depression. Brain chemistry imbalance. I hate when people say "depression
is all in your head." No duh! Obviously depression is in my head. That's why it's
called a mental illness. It's in my head but thank you for being so smart.
Depression can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. More commonly
these are imbalances between the neurotransmitters. So when I say
transmitter, a transmitter is something in the brain that connects one part of
the brain to another part of the brain and when there's an imbalance and your
brain is trying to talk to one another and there's a problem this could affect
your mood and this can cause depression. Genetics. Depression it can genetic. We
have seen that in twin studies and adoption studies that depression does
run in the family. This could be a good opportunity to ask
your parents, your grandparents, your aunts, uncles... if depression runs in your
family. I know that it runs in mine and it's very very common. It could be a good
conversation starter at the next family dinner. Abuse. Past physical and sexual
abuse could bring up feelings of insecurity. This could make someone feel
weak. This could make them feel worthless.
Depression is very very common in abuse survivors. Different
medications. Have you ever like woken up at two o'clock in the morning and then
saw all those medication commercials and that every single medication commercial
says that one of the side effects could be depression and suicidal thoughts. Well
a lot of different medications do have side effects of depression. I'll actually
leave a link down below with a list of different medications that might cause
depression. so if we're taking one of these medications I would talk to your
doctor. Sex hormones. It has been shown that females are more likely to develop
depression than males and with females it's more likely for us to develop
depression in our early teens and late 20s. This is a part of our lives where a
lot of hormones are doing a lot of different things and that's why scientists
think that sex hormones could cause depression. Different types of the year.
Have you ever heard of SAD (seasonal affective disorder?) This is a type of
depression when you only get depressed if it's winter or spring or fall
wherever you are and it's cold and it's dark and people are going in a lot
earlier and you're not going out as much and you're staying in. This type of
environment could cause us to have depression. Poor nutrition, you are what
you eat. If you eat horrible greasy awful foods it's more likely for you to feel
horrible gross and greasy but if you eat healthy foods, organic food, foods that
are actually good for you and nurture your body then you're gonna feel a lot
better.Substance Abuse. 30% of people who have
substance abuse problems have a mental health condition and this can be a
comorbid kind of thing what comes first. The substance abuse or the mental
health condition? It's just very common for people who have abuse problems to
have depression. Health problems in general. I've been suffering with chronic
pain for five years and when my chronic pain gets so bad where you're just in bed
hurting your mental health goes down so fast. The brain and the body are
connected and if the body is not feeling good the brain is not gonna feel
the brains not gonna feel good the body doesn't feel good. It's just as a
balancing act. Stressful life events. We all have stress in our lives. We are in a
really stressful society. Everyone is stressed but when there's a huge life
change a huge life stressor maybe you got an accident maybe someone passed
away maybe you've gotten to a divorce maybe you're having relationship
problems these are big events in our lives and
that could cause depression for someone who is more susceptible to get depression.
What is stressful for somebody else could not be stressful at all for
another person. You are your own person and it doesn't mean you are weak at all
if you get depression for a stressful life event like you see your your aunt
is doing fine after someone passed away but you're not doing fine it doesn't
mean that you're less of a person or you're weaker than that person. It just means
that you have cope with stress a little bit differently. Like I said before,
everyone experiences depression differently. Everyone has different
causes of depression. If you are experiencing depression right now
please know that you are not alone and then you are not a weak person if you
reach out for help. I have many videos on my depression story my depression
experience how I talked about depression how I got helped my depression and how I
am better now so if you need some support right now if you need someone to
inspire you please subscribe to my channel I make videos and depression
anxiety in mental health. Recovery is possible for depression! I am making a
video every single week on depression if you have any ideas on different
depression topics you would like me to cover please let me know down below I

🤼 Sumo Wrestlers, Gaining Weight & Intermittent Fasting - Duration: 5:29.Hi, it's Dr Sam Robbins,
The other day I got an interesting question from Tino - "How or why do Sumo wrestlers
gain so much weight/fat, if they are on an intermittent fasting "diet" - I don't
get it?!! I thought intermittent fasting was for weight loss?"
It's actually a good observation because he's got a point.
Sumo wrestlers skip breakfast and eat 2 meals daily, during an 8 hour window usually -- just
like intermittent fasting.
However, there are some other differences and I'll get to those in a minute.
Now, today's topic is how sumo wrestlers can gain so much weight and fat, so quickly.
It's an odd topic, but I got a lot of people asking me about it - so, why not.
However, I'm also doing this topic because there are important weight loss lessons in
it as well.
I say this because over the years I've had so many people tell me something like, "I
don't understand it. I only eat twice a day and I'm still gaining weight," or
"I skip breakfast and I usually work through lunch and I'm still fat." Or they'll
say, "I hardly eat anything and I can't seem to lose weight."
If any of the statements sounds like you or someone you know, then you should keep watching.
If any of these statements are coming from someone you know, then make sure you share
this video with them.
On the other hand, if the idea of looking like a Sumo wrestler is appealing to you,
then just follow today's 7 simple rules: How To Gain Weight Like A Sumo Wrestler
They skip breakfast. This helps slow down your metabolism in the
morning. Eating speeds it up.
Exercise in a fasted state / empty stomach for 3-5 hours.
This increases cortisol and stress hormones, so your body is now in a "fat conservation"
and "survival" mode.
Eat two, large meals daily. Typically at 11 am and about 8 hours later.
Sleep after each meals. 4 hours after meal 1 and overnight after last meal.
This helps convert the food for storage, not used for energy. Especially meal #2.
Eat LOTS of calories, primarily from carbs, a little bit of protein and almost no fat.
This causes high insulin/blood sugar levels, which stores the food as fat.
Drink lots of beer with both meals. Alcohol increases estrogen levels, which creates
more body fat, especially beer. Alcohol also stimulates your body to secrete excess levels
of cortisol (your stress hormone), which in turn, causes your body to store fat in your
abdominal area, thus creating that famous "beer belly" look. This is great for a
Sumo wrestler because their big belly makes them more stable in the ring.
Eat with friends. During the two times they eat, it's done
with at least one other person and typically a few friends or teammates. Research shows
that when you eat a meal with others, you'll take in 44% more food and over 30% more carbs
and fats, than if you were to eat alone.
Isn't This Intermittent Fasting? So this is how a Sumo wrestler gains weight.
Now I can see where the "skipping breakfast", "working out fasted" and "eating during
an 8 hour time span" might make someone say quickly "Isn't that what Intermittent
fasting is?"
Yes, it is. However, there are other factors here:
They eat a LOT of calories, between 8000 - 20,000 daily. When you eat that much food, you're
going to get fat. Except the Sumo style speeds up the process.
They eat primarily carbs.
Drink lots of beer.
Genetics - wrestling scouts look for boys who are athletic (preferably with experience
in the martial arts) and stocky in build, with bodies that are big-boned and capable
of putting on weight easily.
So, what are the lessons we can take to an Intermittent Fasting plan if your goal is
fat loss and you are not a Sumo wrestler in training?
Eating only 1 or 2 large meals isn't a good idea, several smaller ones are ideal for better
absorption and hormones. Don't have high carbs - eat protein and
fat. I like ⅓ (33%) of each as a starting point.
Total calories still counts. Doing hours of exercises fasted is going to
raise your cortisol, lower testosterone, burn muscle and hold on to fat. Keep your workouts
between 45-60 min. Short and intense. Limit alcohol.
Sleep is important for both building muscle and losing fat because it improves your hormones.
So there you have it - whether you want to get fat or lose weight. There are success
principles for follow.
Well, that's it for today. I hope this video gave your more clarity.

The Fastest Cars in History | WheelHouse - Duration: 8:47.(car engines rev)
- I like going fast.
(car engines rev)
And you probably do too.
(car engines rev)
Today on Wheel House we're asking, how fast will cars get?
Humans have always had a taste for speed,
well before cars were a glint in anyone's eye.
The nineteenth century saw the rise
of the industrial revolution and railways,
and in 1829, George Stevenson's rocket locomotive
reached an unheard of 30 miles per hour.
But by the end of the century,
trains were able to reach speeds of 120 miles an hour.
That's insane.
From 1894 to 1914, speeds achieved by the automobile
rose exponentially, as did the complexity of their design.
Engine layouts went from one cylinder to 12,
from brakes on just the rear wheels to brakes all around,
from steam engines to carbureted,
four cylinder internal combustion engines.
The Benz Patent-Motorwagen, built around 1885,
was the first car of its kind
to reach a wind-whipping speed of
(drum roll)
Wait for it!
10 miles per hour.
- That's fast. - Mm-hm.
- Within a decade, the steam powered Stanley Roundabout,
more commonly known as the Stanley Steemer,
was lightning fast by comparison at 35 miles an hour.
As the car evolved and as speed became a priority,
what wasn't yet clear was the difference
between race cars and road cars.
Race tracks weren't really a thing yet
so speed records, at least early on,
had to be done on public roads.
By the 1920s cars were hitting speeds
of over 100 miles per hour.
The Duesenberg Model J, manufactured in Indiana,
hit 119 miles per hour
and was followed by the company's souped-up SJ model,
which was said to do over 140 miles per hour,
helping to coin the term,
it's a doozy.
The first man to make a serious attempt
at the 200 mile an hour barrier
was a dude named Sir Henry O'Neil de Hane Segrave in 1927.
He would pilot a custom built land speed racer
called the Sunbeam 1000 Horsepower Mystery Slug
and that's what it was called.
That's actually what it was called.
The blood-red racer had two air-trap engines on board,
one in front of Henry and one behind.
When Segrave and the Sunbeam team
took the car to Daytona Beach to go for the record,
so many people showed up to watch
that Henry had to abort a few test runs
because spectators were standing
on the nine mile long course, just in the way.
After police showed up to block people
from being in the car's way,
Henry set off pushing the car
to a blistering 200.669 miles an hour.
After the run, Henry pressed on the brakes to slow down
but to his surprise the intense speed
quickly burned his brakes out.
So he had no choice
but to drive into the ocean to slow down.
I'm not lying about that.
After pulling the car out and making some repairs,
Henry turned around and went for another run,
this time averaging 203 miles per hour.
(car engine revs)
Just seven years later in 1935
Sir Malcolm Campbell was the first man
to break the 300 mile an hour mark
in his Bluebird Streamliner.
The sands of Daytona weren't practical
for such high speeds so Campbell had to go all the way
to the wide open Bonneville salt flats of Utah
to set his record,
a place that would soon become
the mecca of land-speed racing.
After World War II, hot rod culture was bustling
with enthusiasts meeting in the deserts of Nevada
and Bonneville with the hope of breaking world speed records
in their own customized rides.
They would drive anything from road-going roadsters
to completely handmade streamliners fashioned out of
fighter plane fuel tanks.
While men like John Cobb and Craig Breedlove
were smashing the 400, 500
and even 600 mile an hour records,
things were going a little slower
back in the production car world.
In 1949, the fastest car in the world
was the Jaquar XK120 with a top speed
of 120 miles an hour.
While your buddy's Hyundai might be faster today,
120 in a car meant for the road
back then was very impressive.
The 1950s brought the Aston Martin DB4 GT
which hit speeds of 153 miles an hour.
With all that elegance and no one
to possibly catch up in a high speed chase,
it's no wonder the Aston Martin became the car of Bond.
(sings James Bond theme song)
(makes gun shot sound)
In the 1960s and 70s Ferrari was at the top spot
in the fast class with its Ferrari 365 GTB4 Daytona,
which reached speeds of 174 miles an hour.
Followed by the Berlinetta Boxer
which was said to be able to reach speeds of 188.
It wasn't but Ferrari still eked out its top spot
as the fastest car in the 1970s.
With the Berlinetta Boxer a bit of a let down,
and the Porsche 959 taking the place
as the world's fastest car,
Ferrari felt the heat and once again,
(phone rings)
answered the call.
In the 1980s, the Ferrari F40 was the first production car
to make it past 200 miles an hour,
and became the super car of the decade.
Probably the first super car, actually.
Once that barrier was broken, the gloves were off.
The McClaren F1 reached a speed of 240 in 1998.
The carbon fiber production car made 627 horsepower
from its BMW V12 engine,
making it the fastest car of its era.
(car engine revs)
The Shelby SSC Aero followed
and came roaring into the 21st century
at 268 miles an hour,
followed by the Hennessy Venom GT
which holds the top spot at 301 miles an hour.
Mmm, sort of.
The Hennessy has claimed to go from zero to 249
and back to zero in less than 30 seconds.
But Hennessy has yet to confirm the speed
with the Guinness Book of World Records,
so the real top spot goes to,
drum roll please,
(imitates drum sound)
the Koenigsegg Agera RS at 278 miles per hour.
To make things official,
Koenigsegg asked the Nevada Department of Transportation
to close an 11 mile stretch of Route 160
where the 1,160 horsepower Agera RS
hit 284.55 miles per hour during its first run
and 271.19 during its second
for an average of 277.9 miles per hour.
Very impressive stuff,
but Koenigsegg wants more,
looking square the big three oh oh.
So what's holding streetcars back
from 300 miles an hour?
While cars like the Bugatti,
Veyron and Chiron,
Chiron, Chirone?
We went on this cruise one time
and we met this chick from ASU,
her name was Michon.
Hennessy Venom and the Koenigsegg
make monster horsepower numbers.
That isn't enough to break 300.
There are two very big obstacles
we need to overcome before we get there.
The first being air.
At low speeds, we don't think about this much.
It's easy to cut through.
But as you go past 200, it gets exponentially harder
to go faster and faster,
requiring more and more power
to make gains of even 20 miles an hour.
The SSC Ultimate Aero made 985 horses and reached 256.
13 years later, the Agera RS made 175 more horses
but only went 22 miles an hour faster at 276.
Building engines capable of that sort of power
takes a lot of know-how,
especially if you wanna put it in a streetcar.
But let's pretend we didn't have to worry about reliability
and that we built an engine capable of 2,000 horses.
(car engine accelerates)
And we have a super aerodynamic,
street-legal and safe super car to put it in.
Well, there's still something holding us back, our tires.
The faster you go, the more friction and heat
your tires have to deal with.
And when your wheels are turning
hundreds of times per second,
that's a lot of forces pulling on the tires.
If you don't have good rubber under you,
that's dicey.
Both the Chiron and the Agera RS
use Michelin Pilot Sport Twos,
which Michelin says can be pushed to 300,
as long as it doesn't take too long to get there.
If it takes more than a few minutes
to go from 270 to 300, then there's gonna be
way too much heat in the tire and it could be compromised.
(loud tire noise and explosion)
There's a pretty good chance that we'll see
a street-legal car break 300 miles an hour in our lifetime.
The question is, who's gonna do it?
I don't know, they could be watching us right now.
(mysterious music)
(rhythmic rock beat)
Hey, we make awesome stuff like this
pretty much every day so make sure you don't miss it
by hitting this guy right here.
Oh, and hit that notification bell, too.
Or if you wanna know more about tires,

Is Coffee Good for You? How Much Should We Drink? - Duration: 6:07.Is Coffee Good for You? How Much Should We Drink?
For many of us, coffee is that comforting elixir we drink every morning, whose intoxicating smell surrounds us and invigorates us.
Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee with breakfast or after a big meal? We all do, but I'm sure you have lots of questions about whether it's actually good for you, and how much of it you should drink per day.
So today, we're going to answer the big question: "Is coffee good for you?" Keep reading to find out!.
10 reasons why coffee is good for you.
1,Coffee has a lot of antioxidants.
Coffee is a treasure trove of antioxidants, and is also rich in potassium, magnesium, manganese, chromium, probiotics, vitamins, and tocopherols.
In fact, one of the surprising results of a study conducted in the US a few years ago was that we get more antioxidants from coffee than we do from fruits and vegetables.
Moreover, in general, we consume more coffee than fruits.
2,Coffee can help reduce stress.
Maybe this bit of information got your attention.
But according to a study by Seoul National University, coffee alters protein structures in the brain to reduce levels of stress.
Beware, however: this only works when drinking one or two cups per day.
Drinking more than that creates the opposite effect.
3,Coffee reduces the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
You've probably already heard about a study that was published in 2012 in Science Daily, whose findings were quite encouraging; they concluded that people who regularly drink caffeine are less likely to develop Parkinson's disease.
Moreover, it helps control the tremors in those who already suffer from it.
4,Coffee is good for the liver.
Coffee supports and protects good liver function, for example, by helping avoid fatty liver disease and even cirrhosis.
This is all because a mixture of different chemicals and substances acts as a protectant: carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, alkaloids and other bioactive components like caffeine, diterpenes, and chlorogenic acid work together to care for the liver.
5,Coffee raises our spirits.
No, this isn't a joke.
This dark, delicious beverage acts as a natural antidepressant by increasing the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
There's no better way to start the day.
How many cups should you drink a day?.
The most important thing to understand is that coffee affects people in different ways.
It keeps some people awake at night, while others' sleep patterns might not be altered at all.
At the same time, it can also cause acid production for some.
That's why it should be clear that we need to find out for ourselves how it makes us feel.
As a general rule, however, you shouldn't drink more than three cups per day.
According to various experts, medical specialists, and nutritionists, the maximum daily dose of caffeine per day shouldn't exceed 500 milligrams.
That means it's important to know what size mug we use and avoid excessively large ones, so you know how best to follow these guidelines:.
Decaffeinated instant coffee: 1 mg caffeine.
Instant coffee: 40 mg.
Drip coffee: 30-40 mg.
Espresso: 200-250 mg of caffeine.
Don't hesitate to enjoy your daily cup of coffee.
And also remember that in order to lose weight naturally, you can also make it a point to try the delicious extract from the green coffee bean.

Host: Exploring the legacy and promise of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Christine Morgan: I'm Christine Morgan. I'm the President of the Hearing Loss Association of America-Twin Cities chapter, and also a certified hearing loss support specialist.
I started losing my hearing approximately twelve years ago. I now have two cochlear implants.
Unfortunately, hearing loss is the invisible disability, because we're not in a wheelchair, we don't have a white cane, we don't have dark glasses. People do not realize that we have hearing loss.
"Oh, but you do so well." Well, I'm doing well because I'm looking at you, but the moment you turn your back and speak in a different direction, I'm not doing so well.
