It's day two of the official campaigning period for the nation's presidential hopefuls.
But now let's take some time to look into the highlights of yesterday's campaigning,...
starting with Korea's top liberal candidate Moon Jae-in.
Moon started his official campaign in rather unfamiliar territory -- the conservative stronghold
of Daegu.
Our Kim Hyun-bin,... who is following the Moon Jae-in camp,... files this report.
As they say, when it rains it pours.
But the downpour that hit Korea Monday wasn't enough to stop Democratic Party of Korea presidential
hopeful Moon Jae-in from hitting the campaign trail.
The very first stop of his 22-day long campaigning period: Daegu in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province...
quite an unconventional choice given the history of the region.
"Never before has a liberal candidate kicked off official campaigning in this part of the
country -- traditionally a conservative hotbed.
But Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party of Korea has a message to deliver: one of consolidation
and unity... that he will bring the nation together as one and embrace all Koreans if
he is elected president."
"Besides winning this presidential election, I have another wish.
I want to be chosen by the people.
I do not want to become the president of Daegu, Busan, or Gwangju...
I would like to become the president of the people of the Republic of Korea."
Noting the local economy in the southeastern city is at the bottom of the rankings among
Korea's metropolitan cities, Moon pledged to revive Daegu and the surrounding area.
Acknowledging that the overall national economy is at a low point, he promised heavy investment.
"If elected, I will propose a nine-billion-dollar budget supplement to revive the economy.
We are currently suffering from an extended period of recession in domestic economy due
to unemployment and economic polarization.
Korea's economy and livelihood conditions are at one of the lowest points ever."
Moon's campaign made its way up north toward Seoul... stopping by Daejeon and Suwon...
wrapping up the first official day at Gwanghwamun Plaza in downtown Seoul - an iconic site of
the candlelight rallies that led to the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.
