I remember when my dad — he had dementia, right?
And I walked in the room and he dropped a deuce in his pants.
And no one could prepare you for that.
I always brought my dad on the road, no matter how old he was,
especially when he started the 80s and couldn't really walk that well,
I still would bring him.
But he gave up on life.
He would sleep all day.
He wouldn't shave anymore.

That was a moment where I went, OK.
How do I take over?
You want something to play with?
Everything that always made us get through things was laughing.
I would drive him nuts.
Boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, boing.
Poking fun.
He started soiling himself.
I could tell he was mortified.
This is a man's man.
This is a World War II vet.

If you can step back and laugh at yourself and laugh at a situation
it's healing.

Hands down, it's made me find my voice as a comedian,
and it's given me my passion.

Yeah.
It's not a nice fatherly thing to do.
Yes.
Those little moments...
with my dad when I know he was not in the mood,
I, my daughter, we would egg him on, drive him nuts,
knowing we'd break him eventually.
And I knew inside he loved it.
What?
I just know he went out with everything he probably craved in life.
And at the end of the day, I'll be able to sleep at night
knowing I gave life back to this person.
