THE ICARUS DECEPTION by Seth Godin

The world is full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and you can

Be one of them Audio produced by CONSEJOS PARA SER FELIZ

Who was Icarus?

The man who, we are told, died because of his excessive pride. Made some

Wings of wax for him and others for his father in order to free him from his captivity,

But it flew too high. He approached the sun, his wings melted, he fell into the sea and

Perished Her father had already warned her: do not fly too close to the sun. The lesson

Is that you should not believe that you are better than you are and, above all, that you never think

That you can do what a god does. However, what you have not been told is that Daedalus,

The father of Icarus, also told him not to fly too close to the sea, because the

Water would spoil the driving force of its wings.

It is much more dangerous to fly too low than too high because you think the former

Is safer. We built an area of comfort around obedience and invisibility,

And the result is that we are too close to the waves. However, this comfort zone

No longer coincides with the security zone, which is in the endless creation and in a

Personal connection ever deeper.

The pillars of our new society are the ideas that spread and connect the disconnected.

In other words, in creating art. The bad news is that artists are not invulnerable.

The new security zone is no longer as comfortable as the previous one. That's why I want every

More people put into practice a different way of working and thinking about

his job. This book explains why we should all create "art", for

What it's worth and why we can not wait. The world is full of ordinary people

They do extraordinary things and you can be one of them.

Forced to create art: worthwhile work

Art is what we do when we are truly alive, and an artist is a person who

Uses courage, insight, creativity and audacity to change the status quo. In

Our time abounds the things we buy and the people we hire. No longer

High quality work and skills are lacking. What is scarce is trust,

The connection and the surprise. These are the three elements that make up the work of a

Artist of success. Entrepreneurship, customer service, inventions, technology,

Connection and leadership are the new interpretive, visual and personal arts.

So, welcome to the economy of the connection where, if you invest in products

And exceptional services, you will not have to spend your money on advertising, since the

Consumers will get in touch with you and you will gain more customers. The attention and the

Trust are infinite, but also involve vulnerability, risk and pain. But also

Courage, which is the will to tell the truth about what you see and to own it

What do you say. However, the new economy has ruined the idea that you should

Do what they tell you, and if you do not take risks you can earn a living. Earning a living is

Now more difficult than ever. The alternatives depend on you.

The truth is that the economy of the connection forces us to create art because the industrial age

Is dying even though the remnants of their beliefs and expectations surround us. In 1959,

The psychologist David McCelland published an article explaining why some

Moments of history are distinguished by rapid growth and others not. What

Have in common the greatest success is that there are many people who

It matters to be successful. The question is: does culture encourage us to have important dreams?

Companies now realize that the time employees spend on

Customers creates more value than a new machine. Our success does not consist in being a leader

Of low prices, but of trust.

In the industrial era, standardization was mandatory because without it,

The possibility of industrialization. But in the new security zone we can not find

Surrounded by a mass market, but of individuals, of the few that really

They care about what we are capable of.

The Internet and the economy of the connection have turned the mass economy around.

It is now cheaper and more efficient to manufacture amazing and cutting-edge products for

The natural persons. The consequence of this is that, if we limit ourselves to preventing,

We will not generate growth nor take advantage of the many connections we can establish.

The new economy is like art, there are no right answers, but interesting, and

It works because it welcomes the individual, not the mass; To different, not to normal.

Fortunately, art is not only possible, but inevitable if we give it a try.

In the postindustrial era, art is a habit, a gradual process that allows us to create each

More art. What matters is trust, permission, uniqueness, stories

Which are disseminated and humanity (connections, compassion and humility). Who do we lie

at fault? To the person who listens and who offers us originality and understanding.

And we do not take risks to spread something obvious or trite. In short, we must encourage

The originality approaching with freshness an old problem and adding a human touch

Worth talking about.

Therefore, the connections require an emotional effort. A little more emotional effort

Usually returns a lot. What matters is how many people will miss you tomorrow

You do not return. This reputation offers us the opportunity to forge an even better,

That contacts multiply and increase in value. In turn, the economy of the connection

Allows anyone to take a step and make an offer. You do not need more activity, but

To delve more. Choose yourself and ask yourself how many responsibilities you are willing

To assume before you are assigned.

Today, we are all artists, or at least we all have the opportunity to be artists.

The only thing that prevents us is ourselves. In fact, investors in capital

Risk companies never choose founders who simply want to change jobs,

But to CEOs committed to the human aspect that have decided to undertake

This trip because it is the best and only way to express yourself, lead and connect. Once

More, what is demanded today is emotional effort.

The writer Michael Schrage wants you to ask yourself what you want them to become

Your customers. The industrialist focuses on meeting the needs of the moment

Obtaining a maximum yield. The artist is obsessed with connections and with

the changes. Therefore, your mission is to establish connections that matter. But

how to get it? What attitude to take? With what mentality should we work?

Resorting to myths as paths to travel and chains to break. For example, in the case

Of Icarus, the forgotten part of the story is that we should not belittle ourselves, but rather take advantage of

The opportunities that are presented to us. The supposed Icarus pride is in

Reality the voice to challenge the authority and the guts to rise and express you. Do not

You create the propaganda or you become the person in which they want you to become.

They teach us not to create problems, to follow the leader and to fit in. Also to teach

Obedience, to trust that the system will take care of us and not fly too close to the

Sun. The old system made you popular because you fit. The new one offers you the opportunity

To highlight. Art requires pride and disobedience. The pride of creation and disobedience

To alter the status quo.

If you want to see yourself creating art, adopt new customs. Abandon the habit of ignoring

Negative comments and replace it with the calculation of the borders you have crossed

on day. Sit alone and in silence, learn something new that apparently does not have

Practical benefit and ask people to give you their honest opinion. Invest your time

In animating other artists, teaches with the intention of producing a change and discloses

Something that you have created yourself. Your job is not to work, but to decide what

Do next.

We are not all entrepreneurs, but we are capable of becoming artists, and all

Artists are artistic producers who discover talents, organize shows

And sell tickets. Artists see the world as a series of projects to realize and

Connections you set. Arnold Toynbee studied the visions of the dominant world

In dozens of civilizations over thousands of years and classified them into cultures

Which saw winners and losers, and cultures that focused on reactions to

Challenges

The opportunity is to temporarily give up the disbelief, to put on the habit of artist

And imagine what happens when you see the world of connections as an occasion, and not

As an outstanding problem. In our world, the only alternative is

Excessive pride in which the future belongs to those who are willing to act

As the gods of our myths. Until we suffer a shortage of humility we will follow

Flying too low. In other words, we must commit ourselves to a full life

Of bold and emotional risks. Art is not an event, but a process. When you

Art fails, creates something better.

The obstacle is that we have created a culture that leads us to keep our heads down and

To obey. It is the implied threat that if you take a false step can fire you,

Marginarte, expulsarte and exiliarte of the community. But artists can not be fragile.

Work is a series of projects and problems to solve, not a pristine and predictable environment

Where refined inputs generate increasingly refined results. Being a god is not

Be perfect, but courageous.

Courage is our future, our best and brightest future. Maybe it's the only one

Hope that we have left. This courage is an unexpected jolt, the decision that can not

Change, insistence on a vision or the ethics of a creator. Courage hinders

The short-term commitments of the industrialist. Psychologist Angela Duckworth and others have

Defined elements that, combined, give a person a high courage: perseverance

(Goals and passion for them); Strength (beatings are part of the job); resistance

(Obstacles are a learning process, not a nuisance); ambition; commitment; Y

Flow (engage). Organizations that seek to grow and generate value have no other

Remedy you hire people who represent something, people with courage.

Perhaps the only question we must ask ourselves now is this: is it too late to find

Courage, to invoke your talents? No, as long as you do not blame the system, since this

it does not work. Then why did you trust him?

Think like an artist and be human Art brings vulnerability and its price

Can be the shame, because they have taught us submission, tranquility, do what we

Order and get what we had been promised. But artists look for the annoying truths

Behind the facade. So, when reality comes, it will not surprise us. Sometimes even

She encourages her to arrive. And that means that art is vulnerability without possibility of

shame. For this we must eliminate the artifice, the defenses and the affectation of

Our work and reduce everything to its pure essence so that excuses and

Hiding places

It's okay to recognize that there are people who want to embarrass us, but that

Does not mean that we should accept it. The only way to succeed is to separate

The results of your art of your instinct to feel shame, even though one of the

Community's response to an act of courage is to try to make the brave

Feel ashamed. Instead of rewarding yourself, it strives to silence you by making you feel

shame. But why should we be ashamed to apply our best intentions

To create an art for people who care about us?

The sensible artist's slogan is to avoid unbelievers. If you focus your anguish

And your feelings in people who do not understand your art, you have destroyed a part of your

Soul and you will not have done anything to improve it. Your goal as an artist is to create

An art that thrill the audience you've chosen. Decide who your art is aimed at, improvement

Your connection to that audience and ignore everything else.

Make a list of things you can not talk at work, with your partner or with

Other people you care. What you include in it makes evident the aspects of yours

Or your organization that embarrasses you. Those are the things that you would prefer

Be invulnerable. It is the terrain on which you arm yourself, but doing so precludes

Connections. When you talk about those things, when you take ownership of them, shame

Begins to lose its power and vulnerability is again within your reach.

Remember that it is not up to them to decide how your art is, and do not let them

These mistakes allow you to hide: "busy" is synonymous with "brave"; A mentor

Your life will change; The next step is to wait for them to choose you; And there is a secret

And soon you will discover it. Instead, stop pretending that you are not special, and when it appears

The resistance, you will know that you are winning not against it, but in your struggle to create

art. Resistance is a symptom that you are on the right track. It is not something that should be avoided,

But must be sought. This is the most important phrase of the book, which the artist seeks

The feeling of resistance and try to maximize it.

My colleague Steve Dennis has worked as head of innovation and strategy in two companies

Included in the Fortune 500 list and says the following:

"To occupy a senior leadership position does not necessarily mean that it is more

Easy to break through the fear. (...) As leaders, we have much more to offer than

Limit ourselves to taking the less risky position. (...) If we are going to answer 'no', we must

Know what a 'yes' looks like. And we must be able to communicate it to those we lead. "

Your duty to your team forces you to be clear and consistent with regard to actions

That deserve a "yes". Your job is to use your courage, not hide it. William

Goldman said that in the film industry nobody knew anything. This is also applicable

To your business, that is, do not obey the rules, break them.

And, if a rejection occurs, that means you have chosen the wrong audience. Y,

If you have exhausted all possible audiences, you must create a better art. You define the

Scenario, you decide to whom the interaction is directed and you choose the consequences

what are you looking for. All these alternatives give you an advantage, but also raise the bar.

The audience you choose could be the whole world, the infinite, the mass of humanity.

But you can not like them all. And a large audience will destroy you. A part

Of hard work is to avoid unbelievers and focus on the public who

You have chosen Those responsible for mass marketing and industrialists need to

all the world. But you do not. You just need to capture the interest of a few.

"Create a good work of art" is the recipe of Neil Gaiman to overcome the evils. Yes

The labor market does not smile, if your boss does not respect you, if the world does not understand you,

Creates a good work of art. The writer James Elkins mentions the three necessary components

For a person to become an artist: see, do and start over without looking back

+. First, we must learn to see for ourselves.

That our preconceived ideas and our fears conspire to prevent us from seeing the world

As it is or to practice what the Buddhists call prajna, to accept the reality to measure

Which happens instead of interpreting it as part of a continuous distorted narration

According to our inclinations.

Fred Wilson is one of our most successful venture capital investors

Thanks to his ability to see. He saw that Delicious, Twitter and dozens of companies had potential

commercial. Clive Davis was the genius who discovered or promoted Whitney Houston, Patti Smith,

Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, The Kinks and Lou Reed. I did not always record albums

Or sell records, but he could see the potential of those around him. Alan Webber and Bill

Taylor were the only talent writers at the Harvard Business School who saw the

Revolution that they described in Fast Company, one of the most important magazines

And never published.

This is achieved through practice. Make predictions based on what you see. Write them down. Everybody

Our wrong judgments offer us the opportunity to review and perfect our

Skills to look at the underlying needs of the market, the

They intervene in success and failure.

Paco Underhill has turned the action of looking at an art. His company, Envirosell,

Analyzes the silent images that security cameras record in small shops

And look at what people buy. Thus, Paco convinced a client that he should expand

The aisles to avoid any rear friction. The result? Higher earnings

Despite the lower number of items being sold.

The most difficult part of the process of seeing and fixing is to set aside what consciously

you know. I myself was an Internet expert and had designed successful campaigns in

The network that I launched in Prodigy, AOL and CompuServe. However, instead of founding a

Search, a chat room or an online auction page, I wrote a book about

The smart things that could be found on the Internet. I made $ 80,000. But the

Founders of Yahoo! made the same investment as me and ended up generating 80 billion

Of dollars with the same information. They saw something that I refused to see.

Successful people are very good at labeling, but the problem is that

Labels make it impossible for us to see what is underneath. Then, when the world changes,

Our labels stop working and we stop seeing the opportunities that are presented to us.

Artists learn to see from scratch. They learn to give up labels, and instead

Bring new things.

Our eyes do not lie, but our brains do. Our vision of the world changes

We see and how we interpret what we learn, becoming blind. And we are blind to

Our blindness. If you can not see, you will never succeed in creating art successfully. If a work of art

In the market is able to change things and you do not understand why, ask a colleague

Let me explain If people listen, go or buy something that you do not understand, investigate

why. If you do not have a colleague to ask, find another. And if your colleague is not so smart

Like you, teach him until he is. Second, learn to do, because

When you know how to do something, your way of seeing things changes. The fact of learning

To do things transforms you and you go from being spectator to participant, from person to mercy

From the system to the person who helps to direct it. This will give you courage to do more,

To fail more often and to improve what you do. If you are afraid to write or correct,

Mount or dismount, you are nothing more than a spectator trapped by the instructions of those

To whom you have chosen to follow. But the truth is that you do not need a guru, but experience,

And the best experience is repeated failure.

Specialized knowledge can prevent us from seeing the world as it is, but can also

Fill the gaps, as well as help us understand how something works and how to

Can be made better. Bob Dylan knows much more about American music history

Than anyone we know. Fred Wilson can describe the details of a

Thousands of successful venture capital investments. And Eileen Fisher can tell you

Who inspires a garment with just a glance. Many intellectuals

Avoid the effort to create art. Knowledge is not enough. They are necessary, but they are not enough.

The third component of the artist's mentality is the blank slate, essential

For the original art. If you limit yourself to a rehash of what already exists, it does not happen

Nothing remarkable; A connection is not established. Art uses limits as levers

To project to a position of advantage. If you change the way you look and if you change the

Assumptions that you transmit to the public, you are on the right track to create a better art.

If your art does not generate the connections you are looking for, you must create a better art, see with accuracy,

Do more accurately and show more courage to find your whiteboard blank. What if

None of this works, changes environment; Seeks a new stage in which to act.

In short, you can risk being wrong or you can be boring.

However, risk implies disengagement from results. How can we be professionals

And at the same time to be unconcerned about what will happen next? Remember that when

You renounce to own what you create in exchange for being judged, you have distanced yourself from your humanity.

Learn your profession, excel in the knowledge of your area of expertise, identify yourself

With your clients and worry about how your work will affect them. But then do it

That you want to do because you have committed to do so. The danger lies in using the

Someone else's rule to measure your art.

If you do not get the results you are looking for, your definition of "good" could be

Wrong or your art is not as exceptional as you think. Or maybe you have not been lucky,

So learn to see better, create a better art and do it again. And, in any case,

Do your best to create new interactions that change the recipient and establish

A connection. The person who cares and acts accordingly creates a work

of art. Something that draws attention is that people

That create art are quite normal the rest of the time, if it means normal means,

Accommodating, submissive or even boring. Steve Jobs was putting the same model every day

Of Jersey and Andy Warhol listened to the same song hundreds of times to become insensible

To sound. The fact that the status of an artist of a person is only one

Facet of his life confirms that art is not something innate. Art carries risk, pain

And effort, and it is unlikely that we will invest in everything we do.

Engineering has the right answer. It consists of a solid set of good

Practices and demonstrable proofs that are repeated over and over again until the answer is found.

On the other hand, the art does not have a good answer, although numerous advances of the engineering

Begin as artistic challenges. Some people saw what no one had seen

Before and had the courage to start from a blank slate.

To unlock, create a blog. If you want, use a nickname and disable comments.

Write every day an analysis of what you see in the world with clarity, freshness

And honesty. Or write about what you want to see. Or about what you teach. This way you will conquer

Resistance, that I would prefer you not to write anything, that you would not speak in public and that

Keep everything a secret. Every morning, your brain will start working on something better.

so bad. So you will redefine the bad and the next day you will write better. And so one and

Again until you acquire the serenity of a job well done.

In short, the worst boss in the world could be yourself. A person who works

At home and then, portable in hand, explores the world while doing its work

It surprises us, just as we admire those who dedicate evenings and weekends to

Study another career or launch a company. Maybe if you work for the worst boss in the world,

The only person you can blame yourself.

The answer is that you hire yourself. This way you will realize that people

With more influence they no longer work, but have found someone to take care of

Of this, although it is also true that they work hard to ensure that they never

More will have to do it again. On the other hand, anyone has the privilege

Of turning their tasks into art, of whatever kind. You can create small connections

And perform small experiments. You can gather time for the great work and search

The way of spending less time on trifles. Do not wait for permission, you can do it

When you decide to accept some rules and choose the ones you are going to break.

An example that you should not follow is that of the students of the prestigious Juilliard School

from New York. Only fifteen students attended the talk and recital of a violinist of

Because they were practicing. What allowed them access to school

Was their ability to interpret written music, but the problem is that what they

Allowed to enter will not serve them at all when they leave, because what will allow them

To progress is to play in a way that no one expects.

As a recapitulation remember that, if you do not have an innate talent, you can have

An innate commitment. Second, it organizes talents and, finally, connects

Disconnected. The best option is to become patrons and surround yourself with willing people

To do what had never been done and to take responsibility for what happens next.

The diversity of market niches, with opposing tastes and different sensitivities,

Means that the masses are now easier to ignore.

I will share with you two simple tactics that will bring out your true fear

And will allow you to face him face to face. The first is to make problem sheets

And solution. In a recent act I asked the attendees to write their real problem,

That prevented them from creating their art, and that they would exchange it with that of the person who was

He was at his side. Everyone would have five minutes to write a solution. How

Did you feel when writing the problem? How did it feel to know that the person from

Side would write a solution? And if that person failed, were they willing

To recognize that the problem was impossible to solve and that its goal was not realistic?

Another tactic is the focus group. You must find three other artists who work in activities

Different goals and to pursue other goals and connect with them in relation to the process

Of your art. The purpose of the meeting is to remind you of your commitment and to

A more original, personal and successful art, and do what you want. Avoid thinking about

The worst case because it is somewhat debilitating and also unrealistic. Fly too close

Of the sun is not wise, intelligent or conservative. On the contrary, in the end we fly too close

Of the waves and wasted the best opportunity of our life.

In the economy of connection, the price of experiments is less than ever; the

Ability to connect, high; And the impact of having huge reason. Do not question your status

Of criticism, and do not feel that the acceptance of a

Project is as if they accepted you as a person. On the contrary, enjoy the joy

Of creation and accepts the pain and fear it entails. The magic of Steve Jobs was not

To be right, but to be sure. These are the true foundations of freedom

True, because you no longer limit your passion and your art to not being afraid, but

Will be part of your work, and only then you can ignore it and work as if you did not fear

nothing.

Another fundamental concept that you must understand is transience. Novelties can not

Stay, because then there would be no room for more. The important thing is to feel at ease

Even with the unfinished, with the cycle of never ending ridiculous ideas, because

Without that no idea is important. You are free to choose, to change, to put everything together

The mess you want Resistance will never create art, so get used to selling

What you have created, to thank, to speak in public and to fail, to see the world as

As it is, to make predictions and to teach others, to write daily, to connect

And lead a tribe.

Scarcity is the main driver of the industrial age. On the other hand, the

Connection thrives with abundance. Connections create more connections. The trust,

more confidence. Ideas generate more ideas. He listens to all the criticisms, but restrains

Your drive to flatter the widest possible audience sector. The market share did not

Is as important as art, and the exceptional thing is to risk a complete failure

New, that which occurs when a new risk is run. When you are exposed to a risk

Unknown, you open the door to a radically new form of success.

We should look at our work as part of a game in which there are movements, not

Failures, with results rather than tragedies. It is an infinite game in which we participate

For the honor of playing and whose goal is to allow the other participants to play

best. These games bring with them the abundance and satisfaction of creating an art that matters.

Art almost never works as fast as you'd like, and the more you need

That works, the slower it will happen. The artist understands that roughness is what

does matters. Do not create art after becoming an artist, but you become an artist

To create art without ceasing. Therefore, the artist is not reassured, but rather

It pushes you to be more committed and to show more concentration, sharpness and uniqueness.

And success is not about winning, but about working harder; When a project succeeds, it lights up

Your computer and get to work. It is the greatest privilege you can imagine.

Real stories of real artists Jill Greenberg is one of the photographers of

Art of the world. Jill chose her own path and began using Photoshop,

A tool that everyone shunned except for a few photographers. Then he looked for difficult subjects,

Like presidential candidates looking like zombies, angry bears and crying kids.

And he did it without reservations. And most importantly, his photos are his. Nobody hired her. From

In fact, art directors often hire photographers whom they ask to be

the............., the .................................

Charlie Osmond has launched several profitable companies that give jobs to hundreds of people

Because it knows how to found and manage services oriented consultancy. One of them is

Triptease, for hotel reservations, which is not an advice, but could redefine

What we see when we share travel ideas on the Internet.

Amanda Palmer is the Internet rock star. Since leaving Dresden Dolls in 2008,

Has defined with tenacity and determination the way in which an independent musician

Can earn a living. Its recent overwhelming success after several years was the

Unprecedented campaign he launched at Kickstarter in mid-2012. He raised more than a million

Of dollars in thirty days without record labels, investors or advertising in the media.

Willie Jackson left his job well paid in a consultancy after being bought

a house. What was his plan in mind? Any. What pushes a twenty-year-old to commit

Crazy like that Life. Willie has made dozens of friendships, established a network

Of trusted colleagues and has done a great deal of work with people in whom

Believed He has not yet become famous, but what matters is that he left the system for

Forging a new life.

Recently, Cynthia Carroll became the CEO of Anglo American, a

A mining company that generates billions of dollars. The first thing he did was to meet

The infamous Rustenburg mine, where every year an average of 40 people die in

Accidents, and close it for nine weeks because it could not tolerate the danger.

He then established a productive relationship between unions, government and mining companies.

Deadly landmine victims have halved and continue to fall. The own

Cynthia aired the dirty rags of Anglo American, explained the alternatives and was exposed

To be criticized, unasuneada and rejected.

Hugh Weber is the founder of OTA, a collective of creators based in South Dakota who

Has become the catalyst for an explosion of creativity and possibilities

Throughout the region. When he began he discovered that "I am not the only one who is involved in

This and I can not do it alone. " The economy of the connection increases the number of craftsmen

Even in sparsely populated places. The task of the organizer of a collective

Is to find the right answer, but the right audience and connect, empower the

Atypical values and repeat this action until a change occurs.

Jenny had a good job in a media outlet in New York, but she wanted

To be a writer. Actually it was already, and good, but they did not publish anything. His work needed

An audience. For ten years, he kept a diary that did not interrupt even with

The arrival of his two daughters. What mattered most was being precise, understanding, discovering

The art in the trip that was realizing. Instead of going from editorial to editorial,

Created a blog that week after week was gaining public. Readers connected with Jenny

And with each other. Two years later, an editor published his cookbook, which

Became best seller in EE. UU. Three days after its publication.

Conclusion "I knew that I had been transformed, touched

By the revelation that human beings create art, that to be an artist consists of

See what others could not see. He had no proof that he had wood

Of an artist, although I longed to be one ... I wonder if he really was called to be an artist.

I did not care about the suffering of the vocation, but I was terrified I did not feel the call "(Patti

Smith).

It is a lousy time to want reliable and predictable demand and to make a profit.

Making things for ordinary people. On the other hand, there has never been

A better time to have something to say, take changes and see the world with other eyes.

There has never been a better time to create connections than things. And above all,

There has never been a better time to create art.

It is also easier to fail than it has been before. But your biggest failure is not to make known

Something and see that it does not work, but what you dreamed to do and you did not because you did not meet

The necessary value. And the worst negative point of your professional resume is the way

Which you did not take, the project you did not start and the art you did not create.

However, you do not have to accept a culture of fear or failure. Art is a project,

Not a place. It is a leap into the void, an opportunity to bring out your genius and do

Magic where there was not before. If at the end of your trip no one stands to cheer you,

nothing happens. At least you've lived. .

We live the first time in history when billions of people are

Connected. More than ever, your work is judged according to what you do and not

who you are. The references, access to capital and pure and hard power are being

Eclipsed by a simple question: do I care what you do? We have forged a new world

For you to do what you are capable of. Without apologizing and without apology. Ahead.

Noah's Ark - Duration: 2:23.

En el arca de Noé only eight people were actually in Noah's

Ark.

So here is how the story goes...

An old man named Noah.

As the locals would call him a crazy lunatic, because it hasn't rained in hundred years.

A man named Noah was building an ark for a hundred and twenty years.

Then he was telling the people that God told him that it was gonna rain.

So as he is building his ark.

Hey y'all are more than welcome to come and stuff.God is like hey you know what they aren't

going to believe you.

So just take your family and it was only eight people. His three sons his wife and their wives. So

it's eight people in total. But here is the thing that gets me.

You know how it says like take pairs of animals, apparently he had to take like seven pairs of each animal.

Female and male to reproduce and I'm like that's a lot of animals. If animals are willing

to get on something with you.I would trust the animals over humans, because they know

more and they can sense the vibes. So if they are willingly getting on this ark.

I would take it as a red flag but no one got on the that ark.

No one got on with him.

I'm like really guys really??

So as this is going on.

God's like you know what?

I don't feel like talking one by one.Lets just wash, wash it all out.

Kinda like when you flush the toilet after your done with your business lets just do

that to earth.Wash it out.But that would kinda of suck for Noah.CauseWhat if he had friends

and now he has to deal with his sons.Uggh.

The in-laws.

The daughter in-laws.

Ohh my gosh that story just got dark real quick.

Point of the story is Noah built an ark.He invited people they didn't want to get on.

It rained for forty days and forty nights. So the animals we have are thanks to him.

But the cockroaches man were they really necessary.

That's all I'm saying.

It wasn't necessary.

Okay so that's the story of Noah's ark.

Insurance Today:Janine Starks: Watch out for car insurance pitfalls - Duration: 9:00.

Janine Starks: Watch out for car insurance pitfalls

Janine Starks: Watch out for car insurance pitfalls.

Not telling the truth about a car accident can give your insurer cause to turn you down. OPINION: Welcome to the winter motor vehicle insurance season. Frosts are settling on windscreens, demisters blast and road conditions slide beneath our car tyres.

Should we prang, bump or skid, we are safe in the knowledge that our insurer has our bumper. Well, most of our bumpers. A few of us end up in pot-holes and fine print road-works that stop our journey.

Theres nothing like real life Kiwi examples of where it can all go wrong. Here are my picks of 2016 from the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman cases. Theyre designed to keep your bum-warmer roaring in the 2017 chill.

Contaminated fuel: Miss Hapless drives an Audi. She filled it with diesel and inadvertently added Allied Blue diesel exhaust fluid to the tank.

After a few hundred kilometres it shakes and causes $37,000 of electrical and mechanical damage. Titter, titter, surely its insured? Some insurers cover fuel contamination but this particular policy had a very broad exclusion for mechanical and electrical damage.

The claim was declined. Just a little porky: One car brakes, the other crashes into him from behind. The front driver puts in a claim saying he wasnt at fault.

But a witness reports he was braking sharply and traffic ahead wasnt an influence. The two drivers admit they know each other and Mr Brain-fade at the front wanted his acquaintance to pull in, to sort out a personal dispute.

He misrepresented how the accident happened and provided information that was substantially incorrect and material.

Engine failure: Mr and Mrs Cursed remove their radiator cap and forget to put it back on. The vehicle overheats, they replace the cap, but 5km later it dies.

It was an accident and their policy covers accidental loss. But the Curseds are subject to an exclusion.

Failure of the engine is not covered, unless caused by collision, impact, earthquake, fire, flood, lightening, a malicious act, overturning of the vehicle, theft, illegal conversion or volcanic eruption.

Sum insured versus market value. A car insured for $9000 is involved in an accident. The insurer gets a market valuation and pays $7000. Another valuation shows $7300, so an extra $300 is paid.

Mr Bad Luck didnt know an insurer could pay the market value if its lower than the sum on the policy. This detail was in the 30-page policy document.

Mr Bad Luck said it wasnt sent to him. He should have requested it, because by law you must read the wording.

Wear and tear: Mr Blighteds BMW convertible had the roof slashed by a thief. His insurer paid for new upholstery. Nine months later the roof mechanism failed and he claimed again, believing the thief caused the damage.

The insurer got evidence from a BMW mechanic and the upholsterer that there were problems with the sensors, circuits, water leaks, corrosion and second hard parts had been fitted previously. The damage was wear and tear.

Breach of drivers license: Mr Doomed swerved around people fighting on the road and had an accident. He was in a company car on a learners license.

The insurer refused to pay, as a fully licensed driver should have supervised him. The company tried to rely on an area of law known as Section 11 of the Insurance Law Reform Act 1977.

If the breach didnt cause or contribute to an accident, the insurer cant decline your claim. In this case a more experienced driver would have acted as a second set of eyes and helped stop a collision.

Oops I forgot: Also known as non-disclosure. A 1986 Nissan Pulsar was stolen.

Miss Portentous was insured, but failed to disclose she had a home contents claim declined the year before. When asked, she said no, believing they were only interested in other motor vehicle policies.

Not telling the truth means the policy can be cancelled from the start date. Section 11 success: Mr Charmed had an accident claim declined, because one of his tyres is worn, making the car unroadworthy.

However under section 11 of the 1977 Insurance Law Reform Act, if the breach didnt cause or contribute to the accident, the insurer must pay up.

In this case a mechanic verified that the traction control meant the tyre would not have caused the accident.

Breach of utmost good faith. Mr Misleading claimed damage to his car in a parking lot and then added in damage to the roof at a later date.

It was found to be pre-existing. The duty of utmost good faith (honesty) is a common law duty and exists independently of the policy.

It was found his actions were intentional. Not only was his vehicle claim declined, his home and contents policies were all terminated.

Modifications: A 1998 Nissan Skyline Coupe is sold for $14,000, but a stolen cheque is used. The owner claims for the car, but the insurer finds it was modified.

The Trade Me listing detailed a turbo timer, apexi pod filter, a blowoff valve, neons, tinted glass and a custom exhaust.

When the car was insured Mr Jinxed answered no to questions on modications. This was a material non-disclosure and allowed the insurer to treat the policy as if it never existed.

FASHION FRIENDS 2 - Shirin Part 2: Fashion Brands In China - Duration: 5:24.

Hi! Welcome back episode 2, part 2.

Part 1, part 2. Do you have that, pa!

Take 2

Hi I'm Emily Keller and this is my friend Shirin.

Hello, hi everyone. She lives and works in fashion here in Shanghai China.

How do you feel about the fashion industry in China it's changing a lot, right?

Yeah, I think in the old times Chinese do a lot of making the stuff. They don't really

design. They just make. I think now Chinese people they do more

design things. Because they have the huge fabric market trims market. They have many

markets so they can find parts of the garments very easily. They can design it.

How to use it. I think this is an advantage for Chinese people than the

people from western. Yeah there's more resources here, because

you make everything here. Yeah that was why people, they have an idea when

they see the trims or fabric or yarns They can have the idea comes out they

can know how to, how I want to use it. Yeah you can like be inspired.

Yeah that's true. I think that was why more and more design office, they are doing in

China not out of China. Yeah that's probably true yeah it's more

like here now right like they're trying to keep everything I mean if you can if

you can have everything here if you're already producing here then might as

well like try to design here as well. Yes so now Chinese maybe more like I can

make it and also I can design it. Yeah it's like a whole program everything.

Everything, can do everything now. That's good.

Are local Chinese brands popular here? Do people buy local Chinese

brands? I think more and more Chinese brands they are doing very well

but I still think they are not that popular. Really? Yeah they maybe sells

well. They may be have very good business. Maybe just in some area or in some

you know like a kind of people they love this kind of style. They love this brand.

But not that common. So it's the specific customer. They probably

have a specific customer those Chinese brands. Yeah. But it's not mainstream yet.

Yeah so that was why I think Chinese brands have just small. They haven't

grown bigger because they only focus on some specific customers. Do you have

any favorite Chinese brands? Favorite? Or designers that

you follow that are Chinese? Actually not really. Yeah I think some Chinese brands I

think I know it, but the Chinese designer I really don't know it well. I only know

some like a big design their dress for celebrities. Okay yeah. Something

like that. Yeah but for the designer they design the garments for the normal

people other people in common, not really. I don't think there's many.

They have but I don't think they're that famous. They're like not that

common. Yeah. What are your favorite designers like not Chinese? Not

Chinese. Do you have any? Favorite designers? I used to have favorite

designers. I loved very crazy styles. Really? Yeah I'm thinking wow how they

thinking how can the image? How can they design this? Who's going to

wear it? I have that kind of favorite. A French designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

Oh Gaultier. I really loved him before, but since I work in this industry.

Yeah you feel differently, right?. I feel very different. Oh wow that was why he designed this. I know

why he designed that kind of style. So now I think it's difficult to tell my

favorite designer. I know many designers and I can

see I think I can tell which is my favorite brand but it's difficult to say

designer. What's your favorite brand? Like Celine,

Chloe. I really like Chloe now. I like those

two as well. I think Chloe is cool but still a little bit feminine.

Yeah it's like you don't you see many flowers or some big sleeves,

some very lacey, but you don't think that was too girly. You think that

feminine, but also quite cool. I think Chloe is quite nice. I've

always liked Chloe a lot, and Celine.

Should we do it again? No keep, uuuhhh, no keep going, it's fine. I can edit.

Engineer Insights: Udviklingen af connected power tools - Duration: 1:43.

Connected tools or devices give more power and more control to the user.

If a tool can be customized according user requirement then it is very convenient

for him to use it and it definitely increases the efficiency.

It was a fast project. We didn't want to impact the Bosch brand value and the quality.

To become a developer of a connected tool, the most important thing

– you must be willing to learn something new.

We directly communicate with craftsmen to get their requirement.

If we develop this kind of product, then these products

will give some benefits to the craftsmen.

So we do have to take care of these things.

We shouldn't create something out of the world and then nobody can use it.

The biggest challenge which we had was time lines.

So we had to develop fast a connected tool within a certain time limit.

So it was big challenge.

And the second thing was antenna optimization.

We wanted our signal range as far as possible

and at some stage we were struggling with it and in the end we definitely had it.

But that was a very challenging part.

The connected tools from Bosch have same fundamentals and same technology.

And if somebody wants to implement some new feature

on top of that it is also possible.

El engaño de Ícaro -Cómo ser una persona extraordinaria - Seth Godin - Audiolibro - Duration: 42:21.

The pillars of our new society are the ideas that spread and connect the disconnected.

Forced to create art: worthwhile work

Art is what we do when we are truly alive, and an artist is a person who

Ahead.
