Youtube daily report w Jun 13 2017

ON OUR FAVORITE STATE MEDIA PROGRAM, FOX AND

FRIENDS IVANKA TRUMP WAS ASKED ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY OF BEING A

PART OF THE WHITE HOUSE.

SHE TALKED ABOUT HOW VICIOUS HER

FATHER'S CRITICS ARE ñ POOR HER.

>>IS IT HARDER THAN YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT TO STICK TO THE

THINGS YOU WANT TO DO BECAUSE OF

WHAT KEEPS COMING UP WHETHER IT IS THE RUSSIA INVESTIGATION OR

SOMETHING ELSE?

>>IT IS HARD AND THERE IS A LEVEL OF VICIOUSNESS THAT I WAS

NOT EXPECTING.

I WAS NOT EXPECTING THE INTENSITY OF THE

EXPERIENCE.

BUT THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY.

MY FATHER

AND THIS ADMINISTRATION INTENDS

TO BE TRANSFORMATIVE AND WE WANT TO DO BIG, BOLD THINGS.

WE ARE

LOOKING TO CHANGE THE STATUS

QUO.

I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO BE EASY.

I THINK SOME OF THE

DISTRACTIONS AND SOME OF THE FEROCITY WAS ñ

I WAS BLINDSIDED BY ON A PERSONAL LEVEL.

>> THE HEARTBREAK.

>>I WILL JUST REITERATE SOME OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THAT.

SHE SAID THERE IS A LEVEL OF VICIOUSNESS I WAS NOT EXPECTING.

SHE SAID I WAS NOT EXPECTING THE

INTENSITY OF THIS EXPERIENCE.

>>YOU CAN TELL BY THE WAY OBAMA'S RETURN TO THAT IT

MIGHT BE A ROUGH RIDE?

>> SHE SAID SHE WAS BLINDSIDED BY ON A PERSONAL LEVEL.

I HAVE A

LOT OF THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS.

ONE OF WHICH IS THAT SHE SAID A LOT

OF THESE STRUGGLES THAT SHE IS DEALING WITH CURRENTLY ARE MADE

UP FOR BY THE PEOPLE SHE MEETS WHEN SHE IS OUT ON THE ROAD,

POOR WORKING CLASS PEOPLE THAT GREET HER WITH SMILING FACES

BECAUSE CLEARLY THEY DON'T REALIZE THAT HER FATHER'S

ADMINISTRATION IS GOING TO

TOTALLY FUCK THEM OVER.I DON'T THINK RESPONDING TO THE

VICIOUSNESS OF HER FATHER'S ILLUSTRATION ñ I DEFINITELY

THINK HE GETS A LOT OF HATE, BUT THAT IS JUST IN RESPONSE TO THE

VICIOUSNESS THAT HE IS PUTTING OUT.

THAT IS THE VICIOUSNESS WE

SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT, NOT

THAT IVANKA TRUMP IS GETTING MEAN TWEETS.

>>OF COURSE, HE IS THE BULLY IN CHIEF.

BEFORE HE WAS PRESIDENT

HE WAS TAKING ON THAT GOLDSTAR

FAMILY, REMEMBER THE KAHNS?

WHAT A SUPREME MISERABLE A WHOLE

WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

THAT IS WHO HER DAD IS.

DON'T

LOSE SIGHT OF THIS.

REMEMBER WHO WHEN HE MOCKED THE DISABLED

REPORTER.

THE MAN IS DESPICABLE,

THIS IS HER FATHER.

THEN HE GOES ON FOX NEWS AND SAYS ñ

AND SHE IS SHOCKED BY THIS?

IT DISGUSTS ME.

>>I DON'T THINK SHE IS SHOCKED.

THIS IS A STRATEGY OF WHITE

SUPREMACY, THIS IS HOW IT OPERATES.

PROMOTES AND

PERPETUATES OF VIOLENCE AND THEN POSITIONS ITSELF TO BE APPALLED

BY VIOLENCE.

IT IS NOT JUST THE INSTANCES THAT YOU MENTIONED.

ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE VIOLENT THINGS, AND THEY ARE NOT SUBTLE

THEY ARE ACTIVE.

OF COURSE WE USE IVANKA TRUMP, WE USE HER

FEMININITY, HER WHITENESS, AND HER POSITION IN STATURE TO GO ON

AND TALK ABOUT FEELING

VICTIMIZED OR THE FEROCITY OF ñ

THE VICIOUSNESS OF PEOPLE AGAINST TRUMP.

HE COULDN'T GO ON TV AND SAY HE FELT SURPRISED BECAUSE HE IS

THE EMBODIMENT OF THIS VIOLENCE.

I DON'T BUY IT, I THINK IT'S RIDICULOUS.

I CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH IT.

>> MAYBE IT IS A PLOY AND YOU ARE RIGHT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME

I THINK THERE IS A CHANCE THEY

LIVE IN THIS BUBBLE WHERE THEY REALLY DO THINK THAT WHAT THEY

ARE DOING MIGHT BE RIGHT.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

I THINK THERE

IS A CHANCE HE MAY NOT REALIZE FUCKED UP

HE IS.

>> YOU CAN'T ñ THE PRESIDENCY CANNOT BE A FIRST JOB IF YOU

HAVE NO TRAINING, BUT YOU CAN IF

YOU ARE TRUMP.

THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBTING WHITE MEN IS JUST

RIDICULOUS.

I DON'T THINK YOU

ARE UNAWARE OF SAYING CRAZY THINGS.

AND THEN WHEN YOU HEAR

CRAZY THINGS BACK TOWARD YOU YOU

ARE SURPRISED.

>>BY CALLING HIM IDIOTIC AND BIGOTED, I'M NOT GIVING HIM THE

BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT BUT I THINK

THERE MIGHT BE A CHANCE HE IS JUST IN THIS SCARY TORNADO AND

PEOPLE ARE JUST TRYING TO MOVE THE TORNADO.

>> I DON'T THINK YOU ARE EXCUSING HIM AT ALL.

>>I THINK BOTH CAN BE TRUE.

IT IS TRUE THAT TRUMP IS DAMNED,

PROFOUNDLY INCOMPETENT, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE IS

DOING.

HE IS USED TO SELLING A

BUNCH OF CRAP BASED ON SLOGANS.

HE IS USED TO THAT STUFF SO HE

DOESN'T REALLY KNOW THAT, BUT THAT IS REINFORCED BY THE WHITE

PRIVILEGE THING YOU ARE TALKING

ABOUT.

IN THIS CASE THOSE THINGS COEXIST.

>>ABSOLUTELY.

>> I THINK IVANKA TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN ON THIS.

SHE WAS SAYING I

HAD TO SACRIFICE, I GAVE IT MY

MASSAGES AND SHE'S BASICALLY DOING THE SAME THING HERE ñ

SHE'S FALLING ON THE HATERS

GONNA HATE MENTALITY.

ONE LAST THING, SHE SAYS THE FEROCITY OF

THE PEOPLE, OR HER FATHER'S CRITICS ñ I THINK SHE IS TALKING

ABOUT THE RESISTIVE MOVEMENT AND

I WANT THE RESIST MOVEMENT TO STAY FEROCIOUS.

I WANT THEM TO

KEEP THAT.

>> AND ALSO THE FACT THAT SHE HAS AN OFFICE ñ EXCUSE ALL THE

NEPOTISM THAT IS HAPPENING.

WHY ARE YOU SERVING IN THE

ADMINISTRATION INSTEAD OF ASKING HER HOW SHE FEELS ABOUT HOW HER

FATHER IS BEING CRITIQUED.

>> I WAS GOING TO SAY WE BENT THE ETHIC RULES FOR THEM, BUT I

THINK WE BROKE THEM.

SHE STILL HAS BUSINESSES THAT ARE BEING

BENEFITED BY CERTAIN DECISIONS BEING MADE.

TO HAVE IVANKA TRUMP COMPLAINING ABOUT ANYTHING

IS INSANITY.

>>IT IS.

THE FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY?

>> THE PRESIDENT MADE CLEAR IN THE ROSE GARDEN LAST WEEK THAT

HE WOULD HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT SHORTLY.

>> HE IS NOT WAITING FOR ANYTHING.

WHEN HE IS READY TO DISCUSS IT, HE WILL.

I THINK HE LAID OUT HIS POSITION VERY CLEARLY, VERY CONCISELY ON

FRIDAY. >> AND HERE IS THE PRESIDENT

TODAY FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF HIS DEFENSE LAWYER.

>> ARE THERE TAPES OF YOU AND JAMES COMEY.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> THANKS TO A FREEDOM OF

INFORMATION REQUEST BY "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL", THE UNITED

STATES SECRET SERVICE SAID TODAY IT HAS NO RECORDS OF ANY AUDIO

RECORDED IN THE TRUMP WHITE HOUSE.

BUT AS "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL" POINTS OUT, THIS DOESN'T EXCLUDE

THE POSSIBILITY THAT RECORDINGS COULD HAVE BEEN CREATED BY

ANOTHER ENTITY OTHER THAN THE SECRET SERVICE.

JOINING US NOW, TIM O'BRIEN, THE EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF BLOOMBERG

VIEW, AND THE AUTHOR OF "TRUMP NATION: THE ART OF BEING THE

DONALD." AND TIM, YOU WERE OF COURSE SUED

FOR WRITING THAT BOOK, AND MARC KASOWITZ WAS THE LAWYER, THE

LAWYER HE HAS DEFENDING HIM IN THAT LAWSUIT.

THE ISSUE OF AUDIOTAPES CAME UP. TELL US HOW THAT HAPPENED.

THAT AT SOME POINT DONALD TRUMP SAID SOMETHING LIKE I TAPE

RECORDED OUR CONVERSATION? >> ROUTINELY, I WAS AT "THE NEW

YORK TIMES" AT THE TIME. AND WE SPOKE FREQUENTLY,

MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE WEEK. >> BY PHONE?

>> BY PHONE. HE DOESN'T E-MAIL.

HE WOULD SEND LETTERS OR I'D SEE HIM AT THE OFFICE.

BUT OCCASIONALLY THE END OF PHONE CALLS HE WOULD SAY I'VE

BEEN TAPING THIS. YOU DON'T MIND IF I TAPE THIS,

DO YOU? THAT'S FINE, THAT'S FINE.

HE WOULD DROP IT IN AT THE END. AND I WOULD BE IN HIS OFFICE AND

HE WOULD SAY I MIGHT HAVE TO START THE TAPE RECORDING SYSTEM.

>> LET'S GO TO THE UNDER OATH DEPOSITION IN YOUR CASE.

AND I'M SO GLAD THAT HE SUED YOU.

>> I KNOW YOU'RE JEALOUS. >> I'M VERY JEALOUS.

I WANTED HIM TO SUE ME SO I WOULD HAVE ONE OF THESE

DEPOSITIONS. HERE IS DONALD TRUMP UNDER OATH.

I FIGURED THE ONLY WAY I COULD MAKE HIM WRITE WHAT I WAS SAYING

WAS TO HAVE HIM AT LEAST THINK THAT HE WAS BEING TAPE RECORDED.

SO YOU BELIEVE YOU MAY HAVE TOLD HIM?

DONALD TRUMP, I MAY HAVE TOLD HIM.

I DON'T REMEMBER, BUT I MAY HAVE TOLD HIM.

QUESTION, THAT YOU WERE TAPE RECORDING HIM?

>> DONALD TRUMP -- THAT'S RIGHT, I REMEMBER SOMETHING VERY

VAGUELY IN MY MIND HOPING HE WOULD WRITE HONESTLY WHAT I

SAID. QUESTION, AND THAT WAS NOT TRUE?

YOU WERE NOT TAPE RECORDING HIM? DONALD TRUMP, I WAS NOT.

I'M NOT EQUIPPED TO TAPE RECORD. SO WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN YOU SAW THE FIRST TWEET FROM TRUMP

ABOUT HEY, COMEY BETTER HOPE THERE ARE NO TAPES.

>> I THOUGHT THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO TAPES.

AND COMEY SAID DURING HIS TESTIMONY, LORDY, HE HOPES THERE

ARE TAPES, FAMOUSLY. AND I HATE TO DISAPPOINT HIM,

BUT I DON'T THINK THEY EXIST. TRUMP SAYS THIS ALL THE TIME TO

INTIMIDATE PEOPLE. WHETHER IT'S PEOPLE PROSECUTING

HIM OR INVESTIGATING HIM OR REPORTING ON HIM.

IT'S SORT OF TYPICAL TRUMP. >> NOW YOUR REACTION TONIGHT,

KNOWING DONALD TRUMP AS YOU DO, YOUR REACTION TONIGHT TO THE

POSSIBILITY THAT HE MAY ORDER THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR TO BE

FIRED. >> OH, I THINK HE WOULD DO THAT

IN A HEART BEAT IF IT CAME TO HIS SURVIVAL.

THING IS TWO LENSES FOR UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING DONALD

TRUMP DOES. SELF-ASELF-AGGRANDIZEMENT, OR

SELF-PRESERVATION. HE IS FIRMFULLY THE

SELF-PRESERVATION MODE HERE. I DON'T THINK HE WOULD HESITATE

FOR A SECOND TO FIRE MUELLER. >> THE IDEA THAT WELL, HE'S GOT

TO MAKE THE POLITICAL CALCULATION, FOR YOU JUST HOW AT

RISK DOES HE FEEL. >> YES.

>> BY THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR. AND IF HE FEELS SERIOUSLY AT

RISK HE'LL FIRE THEM SHIRKS NOT A STRATEGICALLY DISCIPLINED

INTELLECTUALLY, EMOTIONALLY DISCIPLINED PERSON.

HE IS A CARNIVAL BARKER. AND HE WANTS ATTENTION, AND HE

WANTS TO MAKE SURE THAT HE SURVIVES.

THAT'S WHAT MOTIVES EVERYTHING HE DOES.

>> NOW KASOWITZ HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE DEFENDING A

PRESIDENT. HE HAS VIRTUALLY NO EXPERIENCE

WITH CRIMINAL LAW. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN THESE

LAWSUITS, DEFENDING THE TRUMP UNIVERSITY LAWSUIT WHICH HE LOST

TO THE TUNE OF $25 MILLION. >> RIGHT.

>> WHAT IS YOUR REACTION TO THE PRESIDENT HAVING A LAWYER WITH

NO EXPERIENCE IN THE ARENA THAT HE FINDS HIMSELF NOW?

>> WELL, WHEN HE SUED ME FOR LIBEL, KASOWITZ HAD NO

EXPERIENCE IN LIBEL LAW EITHER. >> AND NOW HE DOES.

>> NOW HE DOES. AND I HAD GREAT ATTORNEYS.

I HAD MARY JO WHITE, ANDREW LEVINE.

>> FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY MARY JO WHITE.

>> CORRECT. AND FORMER S.E.C. CHAIR.

AND THEY WERE PREPARED. THEY WERE DISCIPLINED.

THEY WERE WISE. AND THEY CLEANED HIS CLOCK.

HAVE MORE PROBLEMS THAN HE REALIZES?

>> HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS UP AGAINST.

>> DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING.

More than half of midsize SUV headlights tested rate marginal or poor - IIHS News - Duration: 2:03.

Matt Brumbelow >> Finding your way down a road at night is even harder

when the headlights on your vehicle aren't up to the job.

And that's what we found again and again when we've tested headlights on different

types of vehicles for how well they let you see at night.

The latest tests are for 37 midsize SUVs, and the news is only a little better.

While the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and Volvo XC60 are available with good-rated headlights,

most of the vehicles we tested are rated marginal or poor.

IIHS Engineer >> The track is ready, you can begin your run.

Matt Brumbelow >> Institute engineers use sensors to measure how much light is projected by low beams and

high beams on a straightaway and on curves.

They also measure how much glare is created by the low beams for oncoming drivers.

The Kia Sorento is one of the worst performers for visibility.

The low beams on the Sorento only allow a driver to see 148 feet on the right side of

a straightaway.

In contrast, the good-rated low beams on the Volvo XC60 project light more than twice as far.

Glare from the headlights of oncoming vehicles is a common complaint for drivers.

We tested 79 headlight variants on these midsize SUVs, and more than half of them had too much glare.

In 17 of those cases, the headlights would be rated poor based on glare alone.

Managing glare can be more challenging for taller vehicles like SUVs and pickups.

Even so, it's possible for headlights on these vehicles to do a good job of lighting

up the road without blinding oncoming drivers.

What we found in our research has prompted us to include headlights in our awards criteria

for 2017.

To earn the highest award, TOP SAFETY PICK+, vehicles have to be available with either

good or acceptable rated headlights.

Advanced English Grammar: Participles - Duration: 13:56.

Hi.

Welcome to www.engvid.com. I'm Adam.

In today's video we're going to look at participles.

Now, this is a little bit more advanced grammar, but it's very useful and it's used in everyday

speaking, but especially for writing and reading because you're going to see participles everywhere.

What participles do is they help you get sentence variety, they help you make your sentences

shorter, if necessary, they give you a little bit of style.

Okay?

There are two participles that we need to look at, they are called the active or passive participle.

Sometimes you'll see them as present or past participle.

Past participles, you're familiar with.

Sometimes they're called the verb three, so: "eat", past tense "ate", past participle is "eaten".

Right?

So that's the participle.

Now, especially with the "ing" you have to be careful because "ing" words, although they

are verbs with "ing", they can be pretty much anything.

They could be a gerund, as you know, so they're nouns; they could be part of the continuous

verb, so "be going", so: "I am going", it's a continuous action; but "ing" words can also

be adjectives and adverbs.

When they are adjectives and adverbs they are actually participles.

So it's very important to recognize them and know how to use them.

So what I want to do first is I want to look at the adjective participles.

Now, what you have to remember about adjective participles, they are...

They are reduced adjective clauses.

You know an adjective clause, it's meant to modify a noun.

It identifies it or gives extra information about a noun.

A participle, an adjective participle is that adjective clause minus the subject and the verb.

Okay? But we're going to look at that in a second.

So let's look at this sentence first.

Oh, sorry, let me...

I made a little mistake here.

"Dressed in his class-A uniform, the marine looked like a recruitment poster."

So this is the passive or the past participle ending in "ed", it's a regular verb, so: "dressed".

"Dressed in his class-A uniform".

Now, if I rearrange the sentence, really, it says:

"The marine, who was dressed in his class-A uniform, looked like a recruitment poster."

Okay?

Like a poster that wants people to join the marines, etc.

But I can take that adjective clause, I get rid of the "who was" or "who is", depending

on the tense.

Get rid of that, and I'm left with a participle phrase.

Now, I can take that participle phrase and move it to the beginning of the sentence,

just like I have here.

The key when you're using participles at the beginning...

A participle phrase at the beginning of a sentence, you must make sure that the subject,

which is not there but it is understood: who was, who is the marine,

so the marine who was dressed in his class-A,

and then the subject of the independent clause must be the same subject.

Okay?

We're going to look at a couple more examples.

"Standing near the window, Marie could see the entire village."

Look at the other example: "Standing near the window, the entire village was in view."

Now, many people will look at both sentences and think:

"Yeah, okay, I understand them. They're both correct."

This sentence is incorrect.

Why?

Because the subject here is "the village".

Can the village stand near the window?

No, it can't.

So: "Standing near the window" means Marie.

"Marie, who was standing near the window, could see the entire village."

This subject cannot do this action, so you have to make sure that the implied or the

understood subject in the participle is the exact same as the subject of the independent

clause that follows it.

Okay?

That's very, very important.

So now what we're going to do, I'm going to look at a few more examples and I want to

show you that you can start the sentence with a participle phrase, but you can also leave

it in the middle of the sentence.

Okay? Let's look at that.

Okay, let's look at these examples now and you'll see the different positions the participles

can take.

And again, we're talking about participle phrases for the most part.

"The jazz musician, known for his tendency to daydream, got into a zone and played for an hour straight."

Okay?

So what we're doing here, we're giving you a little bit more information about the musician.

We're not identifying him.

We're giving you extra information, which is why we have the commas.

Because if this was a...

If this were a regular adjective clause, it would be a non-identifying adjective clause

and I would have...

The tense is not important.

It can be both.

"He is known" or "He was known", depending on the situation.

"Who was known", but whenever I have the relative pronoun of the adjective clause working also

as the subject, and I have a "be" verb, I can take them both out and leave only the

participle and whatever else comes with it.

If we have a participle and it's only the participle with nothing else after it, that

becomes the adjective and it goes before the noun, but I'll show you that after.

So this basically is telling you something about the musician, so it comes in the middle.

Now, in this sentence: "The woman talking to Jeff is his sister."

The woman who is talking to Jeff is his sister.

Now I'm identifying the woman, so I don't have a comma here because it's an identifying

adjective clause and I take out the relative pronoun subject, and again, the "be" verb.

Now, don't get me wrong.

You can make participles with other verbs beside the "be" verb, but we're going to look

at that another time.

For now this is just the basic structure, the basic way to make participles.

And again, identifying the woman.

Remember, when we're...

When we leave the participle inside a sentence then it's going to come right after the noun

it's modifying.

So you don't have to worry too much about making sure the subjects agree.

When you put it at the beginning make sure that the subjects agree,

with the implied subject, anyway.

"The station chief was fired, meaning there's an open position."

Open position means, like, a job you can apply for.

Now, here, again: "which means".

Basically, again, I have the relative pronoun, that's also the subject.

I have an active verb.

I squeeze them both together and I get a participle.

The "which" refers to the entire independent clause.

Okay?

So it doesn't have to be a "be" verb, it can be other verbs, too.

But, again, I'll show you construction in another time because it's a little bit more tricky.

You can't do it with every adjective clause.

You can't do it.

But this "meaning" is about the entire independent clause and it comes after the comma, because

again, it's not an identifying adjective clause and it ends the sentence.

Now, before I mentioned that if you don't have anything after...

Right.

So if I have, for example: "The broken window".

"The broken window was fixed."

So imagine the window that was broken, "that" out, "was" out, all I have is "broken".

I don't have a whole phrase.

So when I have only one-word participle, when I only have the one word left over after the

reduction, then I just treat it like a regular adjective and I put it before the noun.

Okay.

And I can do it with an "ing" as well.

Okay.

So far so good.

Now we're going to look at adverbs where it gets a little bit more confusing.

Okay, so now we're going to look at participles used as adverbs.

So, again, it's very important to understand: What's the difference between an adjective

clause and an adverb clause?

An adjective clause modifies a noun, it gives you extra information about it or it identifies it.

An adverb clause shows you a relationship between the adverb clause itself and the independent clause.

Same thing with the participle because an adverb participle phrase is also a reduced clause,

it's a reduced adverb clause, but it works in the same way which sometimes can

be a little bit confusing.

So let's look at the examples.

"Given the choice, most people would probably choose good health over good fortune."

So right now you can say: "Most people who are given a choice would probably choose",

you could say that.

You could tell me about which people, or you can show me the relationship about when they

would make this choice.

Now, this would give you a hint: "would choose".

It's a hypothetical.

So, technically, this is:

"If they were given the choice, most people would probably choose..."

So this is a conditional adverb clause reduced to a conditional participle, adverb participle.

So you have your conjunction, your subject, and your verb all squeezed into the participle.

But again, the subject must agree.

Okay? There must be the same subject.

Even if you don't see the subject here, even though it's not a clause, there is no subject,

it's a phrase, there is an implied...

An implied or a suggested subject in that participle, and that's the key to remembering

and to using participles.

Here: "Realizing that the...

The..." Sorry.

"Realizing that the police were on to him, Bernie quickly moved his millions off shore."

Now, here is where you have a little bit of a problem.

This sentence, this participle could be an adjective or it could be an adverb.

When it's not entirely clear, most people will assume or will think of this as an adjective participle.

So, Bernie who realized that the police were on to him, quickly moved his millions off shore.

Or as he realized or because he realized that the police were on to him,

Bernie quickly moved his millions off shore.

Both of them are correct, both of them are okay.

But if you ever want to make very sure that your adverb participle is understood as an

adverb participle, sometimes add the conjunction.

You can have the participle, but add the conjunction just to make sure.

So if I say: "Delivering his speech to the council, Frank had a heart attack."

So, Frank, who was delivering his speech to the council, had a heart attack.

But I don't want you to understand that I'm saying something about Frank.

I'm not saying that.

I'm talking about what happened during the time.

So at the same time two things were happening, a longer action and a quick action:

Delivering his speech and had a heart attack.

So, I would add the conjunction "while" to make sure you understand that I'm focusing

on the adverb relationship, not modifying Frank with an adjective.

Okay?

If you're not sure use the conjunction.

Now: "She refused to cooperate while targeted by the media."

In some cases you have to include the conjunction.

"She refused to cooperate targeted by the media" doesn't make sense.

because if you have this as an adjective, then there must be a noun just before it.

But here we don't have a noun, we have a verb.

So right away we understand that it's an adverb clause, but we have to use the conjunction

because by itself it doesn't work.

It looks like it could be an adjective.

We want to make sure you understand it's an adverb so we add the conjunction, and then

we can use the participle.

"She refused to cooperate while she was targeted by the media."

Okay, so there you are, an introduction to participles.

I know they're a little bit confusing and a little bit tricky,

but they're used all the time.

And especially if you're going to be doing a reading, if you're going to be doing a test,

if you're in school and you need to read, if you just want to read newspapers because

newspapers use them a lot, they can make all their writing shorter, you have to understand

how participles work and you have to know how to use them yourself.

How to Play: Tragedy Looper - Duration: 8:17.

Hi! This is Ambie from Board Game Blitz, and today I'm gonna show you how to play Tragedy Looper.

In this game, one player is the Mastermind and the rest of the players are Protagonists.

The Protagonists are trying to figure out and prevent bad things from happening by traveling

back in time, while the Mastermind is trying to make sure the Protagonists fail.

If there are fewer than four players, one player will play as two or more Protagonists.

The game is played over a series of Loops, each containing multiple Days.

Each time you play, you're playing a specific script, which defines which characters are

in the game and what bad things will happen on which days.

There are two script cards for each script - one for the Mastermind and one for the Protagonists.

The Mastermind knows the entire script, which includes the character roles, the main plot,

and subplots.

The protagonists only know when certain incidents will occur.

For example, in the first script, there is a Murder on Day 2, and a Suicide on Day 3.

These player sheets show what the plots and character roles can be.

For example, if the main plot is Murder Plan and the subplots are Circle of Friends and

Unknown Factor X, there will be a Key Person, a Killer, and a Brain, plus two Friends and

a Conspiracy Theorist, and a Factor.

There are no additional roles, and each character in the game can only have one role.

There is also a maximum number of certain roles that can be in a script, shown here.

Also, each incident has a culprit, which is one of the characters, regardless of role.

Each incident must have a different culprit, but culprits and roles are unrelated.

For example, the Boy Student could be Key Person and a culprit for a Murder Incident,

but he could not be a culprit for two different Incidents.

Throughout the game, the Protagonists are trying to deduce what the plots and roles

are through the actions in the Loops.

The Mastermind, who knows the script, will be doing the rules and actions associated

with the plots and role abilities.

The game is centered around four locations: The Hospital, Shrine, City, and School.

There will also be a certain number of character cards, specified by the script.

Each character has a specific location where it starts and one or more special powers.

Each day, there are 5 phases, shown here.

In the Morning, some script or Mastermind role abilities can happen, if they have the

keyword "Day start."

Most of the gameplay is done during the Playing card phase, when players play action cards

onto characters or locations.

Each day, the Mastermind will place three action cards face down.

After all 3 are placed, the Protagonists will take turns each playing one card face down,

starting with the Leader and going clockwise.

The cards go on either characters or locations, and you cannot have two Mastermind cards or

two Protagonist cards on the same character or location.

You can have a Protagonist card on the same spot as a Mastermind card.

Once everyone has placed a card, all cards are revealed and the Mastermind resolves them

at the same time, with movement cards happening first.

When all cards are resolved, they return to the respective player's hand, unless they

have the once per loop symbol.

Those are placed face up in front of their owner and cannot be used again this loop.

These are the action cards.

Each Protagonist has the same set of cards, and the Mastermind has a slightly different

set.

These cards affect movement.

They do nothing if placed on a location, and if placed on a character, the character will

move in the indicated direction.

Everyone has a vertical and a horizontal movement card.

The Mastermind also has a diagonal movement card.

If there is a Mastermind and a Protagonist movement card on a character, they will combine

as shown here.

For example, this character would move diagonally.

The Protagonists have a Forbid Movement card, which cancels out any movement card on the

character.

These cards adjust a character's Paranoia.

They do nothing if placed on a location.

If placed on a character, this one adds a Paranoia token to the character, and this

one takes one away.

If both a plus and minus are on a character, a Paranoia gets added and then removed.

The Mastermind has these, and the Protagonists have these.

The Mastermind also has a Forbid Paranoia card, which cancels out any Paranoia card

on the character.

The Protagonists have these cards that add Goodwill.

They do nothing on a location, but if they're on a character, the character gets one or

two Goodwill tokens on it.

The Mastermind has a Forbid Goodwill card, which will cancel out the Goodwill card.

The Mastermind has these cards that add one or two Intrigue to a character or a location.

The Protagonists have a Forbid Intrigue card that will cancel out the Intrigue card on

the same character or location, but if two or more Forbid Intrigue cards have been played

on the same day, they nullify each other and they do not work.

In the Abilities phase, first the Mastermind can use any role abilities that have the keyword

"Mastermind ability."

The Mastermind will only announce the result of the ability, not who used the ability or

what ability it was.

For example, if the Script has a Conspiracy Theorist, the Mastermind can place a Paranoia

token on a character in their location during the abilities phase, without saying anything

about what caused it.

After the Mastermind Abilities, the Protagonists can use Goodwill abilities of characters,

shown here.

In order to use an ability, the charac ter must have at least the number of Goodwill

tokens specified.

The tokens are not spent - they stay on the character after they use the ability.

The Leader chooses what abilities to use, and announces the ability and the target if

it has one.

Then, the Mastermind resolves the effect.

Some roles have Goodwill Refusal, which means that those characters will not be able to

activate their Goodwill abilities.

For example, if the Protagonists try to use the Goodwill ability of the Boy Student, but

the Boy Student is the Cultist, the Mastermind must say that nothing happens, since the Cultist

has mandatory Goodwill Refusal.

Multiple Goodwill abilities can be used, but each ability can only be used once per day.

The characters and their abilities are listed on the player sheets.

If a character is ever dead, the Mastermind will turn it sideways.

You cannot place action cards on dead characters or use their abilities, but Goodwill counters

stay on them.

The Incidents phase is when the incidents specified in the script can happen.

If there is nothing scheduled, then nothing happens.

If there is a scheduled incident, then the Mastermind checks if the culprit of the incident

is alive and has reached their paranoia limit, shown here.

If one of those conditions is unfulfilled, then the Mastermind says that no incident

happens.

If the culprit is alive and has reached their paranoia limit, the Mastermind says that the

incident happens and resolves it.

The Mastermind gets to choose who it affects if there's a target.

If there are additional conditions that also need to be met for a specific incident, the

Mastermind must say that the incident still happened, but there is no effect.

At the end of the day, the Leader switches, so give the Leader card clockwise to the next

Protagonist.

Also, some abilities can activate if they have the keyword "Day end."

If this was the last day of the loop, then the loop ends.

Otherwise, a new day begins.

The loop can end in three ways: You've finished the final day of the loop, the Protagonists

have died, or some other rule from the script has caused the loop to end.

When the Loop ends, the Mastermind checks the loss conditions that have the keyword

"Loss condition: Loop end."

If no loss conditions are met, then the game ends and the Protagonists win.

If one or more loss conditions are met, then the Protagonists have lost that loop.

The Mastermind tells the Protagonists they have lost, but not why.

The Protagonists also lose the loop if they died.

If this was the Final Loop, then the game ends.

Otherwise, the protagonists travel back in time to start another loop, and everything

resets.

The game can end in two ways: First, if no loss conditions are met through a whole loop,

the game ends and the Protagonists win.

Secondly, if all the loops are completed and the Protagonists lost in every single loop,

the game ends.

The Protagonists have one Final Guess, a chance to guess the details of the script.

First, reset everything on the board.

Then, the Protagonists discuss with each other, and they pick one character at a time and

guess their role.

You don't need to know the culprits, only the roles.

If the Protagonists guess right, they continue.

If they guess any character incorrectly, then the Mastermind wins.

If the Protagonists succeed in guessing all the characters' roles in the Final Guess,

they win.

In a 2 player game, one player is the Mastermind and the other plays all three Protagonists.

The Protagonist has all 3 Protagonist decks, and plays one card from each deck each day.

In a 3 player game, there is one Mastermind and two Protagonists.

The current Leader will play one card each from two Protagonist decks each day, so the

extra Protagonist deck gets passed with -the Leader card each day.

And that's how you play Tragedy Looper.

【東方怪綺談 】 Lullaby for Lost child 「暁Records 」【Vietsub/Engsub】 - Duration: 4:30.

Lullaby for Lost child English translated by Robin

White cotton whool spilled out of my splintered arm.

It's patched, so I thought we could be friends.

"This doll is filthy, so just throw it away!"

That was the curse that brought me to life.

I hear a lullaby and someone begins to cry.

Why are you here at this point?

Do you think about me and search for my

Liveless figure in the land behind the mirror?

My heart is too vague and thus full of absurd ends.

The frank marionette is inside of a whale.

My cotton body and my soul studded with glass beads can't tell anything.

Do you think I don't know sorrow because of that?

I hear a lullaby and someone begins to cry.

Why are you here at this point?

I wonder if you remember me sometimes.

The livless figures form a circle and dance.

I would've been so glad to be able to be with you back then.

My discarded and burnt soul is completely empty.

Rising up to heaven. I should have been able to rise up,

But my wings covered by a rotten veil are of no use.

I hear a lullaby and begin to cry.

I desire a heart for my soul that doesn't burn out.

I would've been so glad if you only said one word to me.

"Don't cry, I don't despise you or anything."

Despite I finally posses

A body and a heart now,

Only my irretrievable memories are eternal.

Casual Friday - Bread and Circuses - Duration: 5:05.

In recent years, many office workers have been participating in a weekly event called

"Casual Friday".

For those of you who haven't worked in an office, the premise of casual Friday is that

instead of dressing in formal attire as you would Monday through Thursday, you can wear

something more casual on Fridays.

What's the Point?

Companies claim they are doing it to allow their staff to feel more comfortable on a

Friday.

My question is, "Why only Friday?".

If companies truly cared about their workers, why not allow employees to dress casually

every day?

As I hinted at in the title, this is simply an a example of Bread and Circuses.

This is a term that arose during the reign of the Roman Empire.

The Roman government would hand out free food and put on extravagant events to keep the

populace happy.

It was usually used as a distraction to keep the citizens from focussing on the real issues

that plagued their society.

If the Roman people realised they were poor with little food and saw Roman politicians

strutting around in fine clothes and eating imported fruit, then they might just become

angry and try to overthrow the government.

By having free bread thrown at them occasionally and free shows to go and see, the bulk of

people were of the opinion, "The Roman government is good and looks after me.

If they were bad, why would they give me free bread?".

Semblance of Freedom

Companies who "let" their workers wear casual clothes on Friday are no different

from the Roman emperors who occasionally "let" their citizens eat free bread.

They're attempting to convince their workers that the company is good and gives their workers

a lot of freedom.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

The company does not care about its workers.

It only cares about its profits.

If it has to allow its workers to wear some casual clothes on Friday just to keep them

happy, then so be it.

Obviously, most people don't want to be stuck in a cubicle all day doing some menial

task.

It's these little niceties like casual Friday that keep us drudging along.

So why not allow workers to wear casual clothes every day?

If the goal is to keep the workers happy, why not just give them complete freedom?

The answer is simple – control.

If you give people too much freedom, they'll soon start thinking for themselves.

They'll soon realise that the executives sitting in the boardrooms on multi-million

dollar salaries don't deserve to be there.

Casual Friday Doesn't Equal Freedom

I once worked in an office with about 70 other workers.

They had set up the office to be "open-plan" with all the managers sitting among the employees.

Casual Friday was a comical event and an obvious attempt to keep the plebs happy.

In general, all the men wore jeans and a polo shirt, while the woman wore jeans and a t-shirt.

Men weren't allowed to wear t-shirts as they were considered "too" casual.

So basically men were forced to dress the same way.

If they didn't…

well I'll tell you a little story.

One hot summer day, one of my co-workers had the audacity to wear some shorts with his

polo shirt.

Now, don't get me wrong – they weren't casual shorts – they were dress shorts.

Within about 15 minutes the "portfolio" manager came to his desk.

What is a portfolio manager you ask?

I have no idea, but it had nothing to do with finance.

He was there purely to enforce the rules.

He was ex-special forces and acted like a military man.

When he said jump, everybody jumped.

Anyway, the portfolio manager quickly asked my colleague, "Excuse me, what do you think

you are doing?".

To which he replied, "I think I'm dressing casually".

The manager went red in the face and said something along the lines of, "I don't

know where you think you are, but this isn't the Bahamas.

This is a place of business!

There is no room in this business for somebody who dresses like a bum!".

Now, realistically, the only thing my colleague had done was reveal his lower legs.

The portfolio manager on the other hand, revealed a lot about the company.

It didn't care about us.

It just wanted us to obey.

"You wear casual clothes when we tell you to wear them!

You don't wear anything that we don't approve!".

I soon left that company, not just because of the casual Friday policy, but because of

their general disrespect for their workers.

Freedom Friday

Nowadays, I don't do jobs where I am told what to wear.

Whenever I see a company that has "Casual Friday", it immediately sounds alarm bells.

Any company that needs a casual Friday, in my opinion, is a bad company to work for.

Instead of encouraging employees to think for themselves and make decisions, they're

dictating when, where, and what to wear.

That's not freedom – that's tyranny.

If it's okay to wear certain clothes on Friday, it should be okay to wear them on

any day.

I say, forget casual Friday!

Bring on Freedom Friday!

Let's play a game! | Emily is Away Too | Part 2 - Duration: 40:51.

Hello everyone. My name is Crow_Se7en

Welcome back to Emily is Away Too

We will do chapter 2

Shall we continue this game?

Autumn 2006. if there is no love in the world

we will make a new world, we will give it walls

and a knocker that resonates so softly

that we will never hear it

the quote by Jonathan Safran Foer

I don't know who that is

Friday, October 13th Senior Year

Is that mean I went back to high school again?

Create a new personal profile

not too much, got home from Kelly's a little while ago

same hey do you know what today is?

No. today is not her birthday

Nope

Friday!

Close enough

shit, my mom's calling me for dinner

but I'll be on later, talk to you then?

what are you going to do to celebrate?

bye!

lol no, I'm just joking

I'm so happy it's fall, it's like my favorite season

are you gonna dress up for Halloween?

awesomesauce, me too! Jackie's having

a big Halloween party

I'm looking at costumes now

what do you think I should go as?

Sexy nurse?

No, that's too much

A witch? It's basic

It could be really cool

I was actually trying to decide between

Alice in wonderland and Sally from nightmare

before Christmas

Seriously?

Okay?

Sexy nurse again?

Hope there is no wrong answer

that's what I was thinking!

I'll go pick it up tomorrow

Jackie's parties are always crazy

you can probably expect more drunk texts

I think I still have some of those locked on my

phone from this summer

idk how you understood any of them

lol like this one

'omg we thinks Jackie's roof thigh now and starts

nerver flooded so butiful'

that's not what I said but it was certainly possible!

hey, maybe you could just come to the party

do you drink?

same here!

what's your favorite?

Wow, ditto!

I'd probably say the same

would you want to come to the party?

Think about Emily

If Emily wants me to hang out with her

but it will conflict with my plan

Should I say maybe?

the only rule is you have to dress up

Do you know what I will pick?

Jack Skellington!

that'd be awesomesauce!

we'll take some pictures together

I'll add you to the event page

oh wait. are we friends on facenook?

then friend me when you get a chance yo!

Email... AIM...

1989

Single

Oh, add her

Poke!

I don't know now what?

Is that one?

lol yeah, Jackie's a tool

so what are you up to?

just listening to music

senses fall just came out with a new album

it's been on repeat all day

51 minutes?! Oh hell no

I'm not gonna watch it all the way

I'm so glad you like the same music as me

seriously you're pretty swell

I really like talking to you

I'm really glad we sat next to each other

in history last year lol

although I feel like there's a lot about

you I still don't know

just random stuff. hey let's play a game

I get to ask a question about whatever then

you get to ask a question

Sure, why not?

and just ask what comes to mind first

if you take too long, it'll just be my turn again

are you ready?

I'll start with an easy one, do you remember my

favorite kind of movie?

Oh, it's my turn

ask me anything

What's your favorite color?

Is it black?

let's see, have you ever snuck out of your house?

oh shit you bad ass!

your turn again

yeah lol, but only when I have

a pretty good reason to

alright, let's get serious. do you have

a crush on anyone?

That's too much

oh scandalous! I wonder who it is

I know what I'm asking next

unfair, that's like two questions in one!

you're a cheater but I'll answer both

feelings? I don't know maybe?

it's kind of complicated

I don't know. me and this person have history together

Are you talking about me?

no like a relationship history

Steve Myers, you know him right?

Oh, she's not talking about me

yeah, me and him dated for a lot of

my sophomore and junior year

it got pretty serious and I

definitely think I loved him

then he was going off to college and he

broke up with me last winter

oh it's okay! it's more confusing than anything

like, I'm getting over him, it's just weird lol

nah definitely not

it's just that the feelings still hang around

when it worked, we were a really good couple

yeah I think he did

It's kinda getting weird right now

like he was the first person I ever had sex with

That's too much okay okay

I mean, I had like a fling this past summer

but nothing as serious as Steve obviously

Fling?

idk, not even like a relationship

we fooled around but like it was fun

not serious, you know

Tommy, if you don't mind me asking

have you ever had sex?

I'm trying to remember the original game

Emily and I were drunk in my room

Uh.. no...

I remember Emily asked me if I hooked her up

I said no definitely not

Yes, I remember that part in Emily is Away

oh okay. well can you still understand what I mean?

not a lot of people but me and Steve had

these plans for our future

so being together felt like a big deal

Can we change the subject

it's gonna sound really stupid

don't judge me okay?

so I thought we'd go to the same college together

and then maybe idk get married

start a family, whatever

it just feels silly now, thinking about it

but I think that's why it's been hard

to get over the breakup

definitely not even without Steve

I think I still want that future

but maybe that's silly

I just think people think it's stupid

when I talk about it

thanks Tommy, you've really made

me feel a lot better

what are your plans after college

do you want a family?

Emily will remember that

right! I'm so glad you don't think it's weird

I feel like I sound silly when I talk about it

thanks so much for letting me rant about this

hey! I just remembered. it's still my

turn to ask you a question!

I didn't expect that

oh here's a good one!

would you ever date someone like me?

aww lol, you're swell too!

your turn, last question, don't fuck it up!

Noo no no!

I swear! I picked the third option

It said same question

Would you ever date someone like me

It changed itself

Uh, are you getting tired?

It's like the original game

yooo, what were you gonna say

I saw you delete some shit

OK, I'm serious!

Fine fine okay okay!

That's better

we both like to party

and we have the same life plan

but you haven't been in a serious relationship yet

so idk maybe?

you're a really good friend

and I don't want to lose that

oh wow it's getting late huh

and I still want to shower before bed

ik seriously!

I'm gonna go but tonight was really fun

good night Tommy!

Is it over?

I thought it was over

Wow, this chapter is really long

hey sorry about that

haha, so what were we talking about?

oh Kelly's! yeah she showed me this site

the Facenook, do you know it?

oh cool! I'm setting mine up now

there's just so many questions!

haha oh no! okay last part

I have to write a status?

what should I write?

haha, that's definitely what I should use

there, it's finally done!

don't make fun of it!

haha, the poke war is on!

Oh my god, that was old time

you should send me a friend request

when you get the chance!

I already did it!

just going to stay in, probably stay up late

That's it?

don't worry! I'm still here

I just don't want to talk to some people

Jeff haha, he's kinda being an ass

just some bullshit, I don't know

maybe I'm being bitchy tonight or something

I can send you the chat log

just don't show anyone okay?

Oh, it's in Desktop!

That's awesome!

signed in. hey Emily! hey, what's up?

nothing much. so when are you coming over?

I don't know if I can tonight

I have a lot of homework to do

you can just do it here!

it's like project kind of stuff

I really don't think I can come

oh come on Emily, we've had this plan all week

I know, I'm sorry

are you really not going to come over?

I had a whole night planned for us

I don't think I can

HOLY SHIT, are you serious?

wtf Emily

look, I'm sorry okay

I told you that it might not work out

I didn't think you were fucking serious

well, I was

I really can't believe you

I think I'm going to go

sure whatever

If seeing is believing, then believe that

we have lost our eyes

I don't know. do you think I was out of line?

yeah, I just don't want to go over tonight

sometimes it's just hard being there

I just feel like I'm expected to act a certain

way when I'm there, and I hate that?

the problems solved though because I can just

fake being away and talk to you!

thanks Tommy

hey! random question, do you remember

my favorite games?

I'm impressed

it's shooters! of course I remember

hey thanks

hey! let's listen to some sigur ros together

they're Icelandic! I really love this album

I don't have time to listen some music

yay! let's listen to the album together!

I have no idea what the lyrics mean

their music always me feel so happy

thanks, I'm glad you're online to talk to!

hey, cool beans! you put snow patrol

lyrics in your info!

it is! I'm glad you like thenm

you have some pretty good taste in music

so have you started applying to colleges?

I think Emily is Away Too is rebooted

because... all characters are still in senior year

then started applying several colleges

In the original game, the story was happening

in the college

where were you looking to go ideally?

I don't know. I'd really love to go to

school in the city and I've always thought

it would be really cool to live in New York

RIT!!!

I think I really want to get out of here and

go some place totally new you know?

yeah, I think that could be really grand?

but idk, planning that far out can be a little silly

and I really don't see myself setting down anytime soon

like right now I honestly don't even

see myself having kids haha

I mean, I don't know. I don't think so

I just want to be able to take

life as it comes, I think

I think so! hopefully it works out

how about you after college, do you want to

settle down like right after?

oh cool beans. yeah I guess I might just be weird

whenever I talk about New York with Jeff

he always gets so upset

I guess he doesn't want me to go far away

but I think he knows I'd go without him

yeah, I do. he's going through a really tough time

he just wants to be a more serious couple

this is pretty personal, so you

can't tell anyone okay?

me and Jeff haven't had sex

I think he wanted to try tonight or

something, his parents aren't home

I guess so? I'm just not

ready for that with him

but it's okay. it's not like he's ever tried anything

it's just kind of annoying to keep turning him down

yeah but sometimes I feel weird like

I should have done it by now

thanks Tommy

if you don't mind me asking, have you had sex?

No, it's the same question from Evelyn

oh cool! then we're in the same boat haha

that makes me feel a lot better

thanks so much for talking with me about it

thanks! you're such a grand person

I'm sorry I stole so much of your night

just talking about random stuff

I guess I just really like talking you about stuff haha

I feel like we're different now, but in a good way
