Why would a man of sound mind and body decide to inject himself with a 3 and a half million
year old virus that he found in the Siberian mountains?
Not any man, but a man of science and understanding?
One day, this insane academic decided to load up a syringe of the ancient bacteria and inject
himself with it.
Why?
What would compel such a person to do such a thing?
Well, the scientist in question, Anatoli Brouchkov, figured that whatever had kept those bacteria
alive for 3 and a half million years might also keep human life alive just as long.
And since 2009, his plan has succeeded.
And what's more, Brouchkov has been in the best health he has ever been in..
Today, we look deep into the science behind that old virus in order to find out exactly
what is going on, in this episode of The Infographics Show – Why Would a Scientist Inject Himself
with a 3.5-Million-Year-Old Bacteria.
Anatoli Brouchkov, head of the Geocryology Department at Moscow State University, discovered
the bacteria in 2009.
The virus was embedded in an ancient permafrost site called Mammoth Mountain in the Sakha
Republic, otherwise known as the Yakutia region in Siberia.
A similar bacterium was found by scientist Vladimir Repin in the brain of an ice-preserved
woolly mammoth.
Although the virus was trapped in the ice, it was still alive after all those years,
and this is of interest to scientists.
What has kept it alive for so long?
Brouchkov and his team were determined to find out.
Experiments began.
Mice injected with Bacillus F were able to reproduce at an age older than mice typically
reproduce, suggesting that Bacillus F may have potential as a longevity serum.
But the experiments didn't stop with pregnant granny rodents.
Oh no, Brouchkov also experimented with fruit flies with positive results.
Even plants exposed to the bacteria thrived for an unusually long length of time.
Brouchkov confirmed in an interview for Russian TV that he need to extend the experiment to
human subjects - namely himself.
Since injecting himself with the virus, his general health and well-being have improved
dramatically.
"I've started to work longer," he said, "I've never had a flu for the last two
years.
After successful experiments on mice and fruit flies, I thought it would be interesting to
try the inactivated bacterial culture."
The scientist continued, "The permafrost is thawing, and I guess these bacteria get
into the environment, into the water, so the local population, the Yakut people, in fact,
for a long time are getting these cells with water, and even seem to live longer than some
other nations.
So there was no danger for me.
But we do not know how it works.
In fact, we do not know exactly how Aspirin works, for example, but it does.
The same is true here: we cannot understand the mechanism, but we see the impact.
Perhaps there were some side-effects, but there should be some special medical equipment
to spot them.
Of course, such experiments need to be conducted in clinic, with the special equipment and
statistics.
Then we could say clearly about all the effects.
If we find how the bacteria stay alive, we probably would be able to find a tool to extend
our own lives."
Yakutsk epidemiologist Dr. Viktor Chernyavsky added, "The bacteria gives out biologically
active substances throughout its life, which activates the immune status of experimental
animals.
If the same substance were to be given to people, it could cause a significant improvement
in their health, leading to the discovery of an 'elixir of life.'"
So by making himself the human guinea pig in this experiment, Brouchkov hopes to find
out more about longevity.
And who knows, in the process, he may end up becoming one of the oldest scientists himself.
Three different strains of bacteria exist in the permafrost, and Brouchkov is determined
to find out how the bacteria protect themselves against cell damage.
Brouchkov speculates that immortal bacteria probably exist somewhere in the world and
that such bacteria protect themselves from dying.
Somewhere within the virus, he feels, the secret must be hidden.
His team has completed deciphering the Bacillus F DNA but now faces the complicated task of
figuring out which genes are responsible for the longevity of the virus.
The isolation of this gene would be the key to unlocking the puzzle perhaps to eternal
life.
But even if he does not find the secret of everlasting life, Brouchkov has stumbled into
a remarkable new field.
Discovering the mechanism behind the vitality of the virus could have significant health
implications for humankind.
"If we can find how the bacteria stays alive, then we will be able to find the cure to prolong
our own life," Brouchkov concluded.
Brouchkov isn't the only scientist experimenting with ancient bacteria.
For years, scientists have been examining the bacteria from the Siberian Mountains and
beyond.
There's still much to learn about viruses and the hundreds of protein-encoding genes.
Scientists are always looking to nature for clues as to how to improve human health.
In February 2018, an article published by the New Atlas magazine looked at the mole
rat.
This mammal lives well into its 30s and is pretty much immune to all types of cancer
and can do without oxygen for long lengths of time.
Perhaps if scientists can pull apart the cell structure of this mammal a secret to its longevity
may be unraveled.
There are bound to be, as Brouchkov suggests, many more secrets out there in nature.
These secrets may lead to humankind living a much longer and healthier life.
What's the strangest and most unlikely cure that you have heard of?
Are there alternative treatments for cancer that actually work?
Does the secret to longevity exist in a frozen virus or in a ground-dwelling rodent?

Steven T. Seagle on Ben 10 and it's Impact - Duration: 5:49.
Omar: You've also done Ben 10 comic books?
Steven: We did. We only did the first, IDW put out a big run of Ben 10 books and each
Man of Action wrote a story and this particular one and then, lots of other people. You know,
we're knee-deep in Ben 10, like we're doing a new Ben 10 show now and it's, you know,
it's 11 minutes rich of fun instead of 22 minutes; they're shorter and they're more
compact but they're still up, it's like it's still a whole Ben 10 story. So, even though
it's shorter, you have to do all the same thinking about it and it's really time consuming.
Omar: Absolutely.
Steven: So, we have no time to do the comic sadly but others do and good for them.
Omar: And so, how did that come to be? Like IDW, did they like be like, hey, we want
you guys to be involved in a Ben 10?
Steven: No one ever comes to us and goes, we want you to be involved in, fill in
the blank for the stuff that we have made up. Like, there's a Big Hero 6 cartoon,
no one asked if we want to do it even though we are, in fact, cartoon guys who made up
Big Hero 6 and who worked at Disney doing shows for them previously. My friend Nick
who have lived next door to for ten years, when I first moved to Burbank is the director
of that show in an ironic twist, and he's great and the show's great, it looks fantastic,
he brought us in and showed us that. There's been Big Hero 6 comics coming up, nobody contacted
us, do you want to do that? I mean, sometimes we would say yes. This time DC actually
did the original books and they were like, do you guys want to write these?, and
we're like, no. No, you know what? we'll do the first four. And we did.
Omar: Nice. So, DC put out Ben 10 books?
Steven: They did Cartoon Network Action Pack which always had a Ben 10 story, and then
like a Samurai Jack story, and a Powerpuff Girls story I think, it would just alternate
for years, think it was going off for like ten years.
Omar: What has it been like seeing Ben 10 grow into like the success and?
Steven: Wild. I mean, it's weird. Ben 10 did okay in the US when it first came out, but
it wasn't a runaway hit. It was just a hit, did well but, you know, it wasn't that. Kids
loved it, it didn't saturate the culture. Liesel, my wife, and I went on a tour of kind
of the Scandinavian region, I think because I was going to yell at Teddy and be like,
finish this comic, which you have to do sometimes with him, with love. And we went
on a cruise and on the cruise ship, it's like an overnight cruise, like how do you get from
Sweden, Denmark or whatever. And I went in the duty-free shop on the cruise ship and
there was a Ben 10 section. It was like a tiny little shop and there was just all this
Ben 10 stuff that I'd never seen.
Omar: Wow!
Steven: I'm like, Liesel, come look at this, and I showed her. Then we got to Copenhagen
and we checked into our hotel. It's like, I'll look at they're Cartoon Network and
the Cartoon Network logo would flip around and it said Ben 10 TV Cartoon Network, Ben
10 TV. I was like, "What!". And then, we went to Toys R Us, yeah, they had a Toys
R Us there, and almost half the store was Ben 10 stuff; five aisles of Ben 10 stuff.
And I'm like, "I think this show is bigger than I think it is".
Omar: Wow!
Steven: And that was when I - - I knew there was stuff going on, I knew; oh yeah, it's
in these countries or whatever, because we get reports and stuff, but I didn't quite
get that globally it was gigantic. And then, my buddy Rafa, you know Rafa?
Omar: Of course.
Steven: Who's an actor and a writer. He was in Ecuador and he called me, he was like,
you're not going to believe this. He goes, we have a tradition down here for
New Year's, like you tie something to the back your car and you drag it through town
on fire. And I'm like that sounds like a really bad tradition, we have that in the
South too sometimes, but it's not good.
Omar: Yeah.
Steven: He was like, no, no, it's good here, it's good here. He goes, there
Ben 10s. People are dragging, burning Ben 10s all around town. I'm like; well still,
this sounds like kind of a lynching. He said, no, no it's good, it's good. Like,
okay. So, that was when I thought this is really a whole other level.
Omar: I mean, I've seen my cousins who grew up in the Middle East where obsessed with
Ben 10. And, at the time, because, you know, I grew up a little bit too late for it, I
didn't quite understand, like what is Ben 10? And this was before you and I had met.
And so, I was like, okay.
Steven: Well, we've heard of it being illegally broadcasted in countries that we don't have
political relations with. I was like, that's the best, like that's really subversive.
Omar: Yeah. So, they would just take that stream and just
Steven: Yeah. And then, we got into the whole, like people sending us Ben 10 toys that were
made in the Philippines that are not licensed, you know, products. But, it's like it's a
Ben 10 gun, and his body is the gun and his mouth is like where these bullets come out.
And you're just like, oh, that's really wrong, but it's also really cool.
Omar: Did they brand it as Ben 9 or Ben 11?
Steven: No, it's called the Ben 10 Pistol. You're like, well, we didn't even license
a Ben 10 Pistol. I've got one.
Omar: Wow! That's nice to see that kind of growth and it going all around the world;
in Europe, South America, Asia.
Steven: Yeah. I went to Uruguay as part of the U.S. Embassy puts on a comic convention
which is kind of a cool thing down there, were at least participates in it. And I went
down as a guest one year, and just this sea of the cutest kids you've ever seen, they're
like seven, eight years old and they just love Ben 10. And I was only supposed to be
there for two hours or something and I had to stay almost five hours just to sign stuff
for all these kids. You know, like, you can go, you can go. I'm like, I can't
go, look at these kids, they love this show, I can't go anywhere.
Omar: Yeah. I mean, that's something so powerful to have a hand in creating joy for
so many kids.
Steven: Yeah.
Omar: And that's something that's so cool.
Steven: This year, like everybody who is, I've just got to give a speech at a big national
collegiate kind of thing, speech competition, and everybody there is, you know, 19, 20,
21, 22, those kids were 10 when Ben 10 came on. And so, they introduced me and I was kind
of like whatever, and I go, I'm Steve, I also created Ben 10. (Roaring enthusiasm) And I
was like okay. I said, "you're my people, good".

Painterly Fills in Toon Boom Harmony - Duration: 1:46.
Hello YouTube and this is video on painterly fills in Toon Boom. So first
create a new drawing layer and set everything as bitmap. Next we want to set
it to the linework layer and just draw some random shape so let's just draw
something random; that will do, that's probably fine. So next so let's go onto
our color layer and select a color to fill. If you see we draw, it goes
outside the lines which is not what we want. Select our paint under tool and you
can see we have all these options in bitmap options. Alpha changes how close
the fill gets to the Alpha Channel so as you can see as I turn this up the Alpha
channel expands. Maximum overlap on the other hand, take the length that alpha
goes to and expands it by the amount of pixels given in the maximum overlap
option. Color tolerance is exactly the same as alpha but with color. So let's
just get these settings right for this object... and we filled it all in and that
looks nice. But now the shading part, if we still draw it goes outside the lines
so let's change the color so you can actually see it. That will do and let's
just click that button at the bottom that basically means that we can draw
inside the lines like a clipping mask in Photoshop so that's just draw inside as
you can see it doesn't go outside the lines meaning we can draw to our hearts
content andshade to our hearts content without managing to have trouble. So
there we go, hopefully this is helpful, subscribe, all that lovely gumpf
and I will see you in the next one

PRECIOUS GFX 50R with Kevin Mullins | FUJIFILM - Duration: 2:48.
Every year my wife and I and my two children Rosa and Albee
head down to southwest of Spain, a little place called Masala
and just chill out with a family and the kids and have a good time
It's an arid beautiful amazing place
our normal routine here is pretty laid-back really
you know we'll get up we'll have breakfast
and the kids are generally in the pool by 9 o'clock in the morning
They both live in the swimming pool here
They get on well together which is really important
I think it's really important as a professional photographer
to remember that actually photography is a passion and it's a hobby still
and when they announce the GFX 50R
definitely my interest was peaked and it's just a beautiful thing
it's a rangefinder style it's the
It's first of the rangefinder style cameras that has a flip screen
I find it very useful actually especially here in Spain with the harsh light
Sobas is a tiny little hilltop town in southwest of Spain
and it's just an incredible place to visit
For me as a candid photographer both the streets and weddings
I need a camera that's going to allow me to capture the pictures
that I need to get really really quickly
and as discreetly as possible
street photography for me I use it as a way of practicing
and then when I'm shooting weddings
I can relate back to the way that I've been shooting on the street
and understand perhaps the emotions of people
and the mechanics of the way that the camera is working
GFX 50R is going to give me the ability to shoot ergonomically with a style that I'm used to
but ultimately get these amazing pictures from the medium format sensor that's inside
and when those pictures are printed it's just a beautiful thing to see
it's absolutely incredible
I know it seems odd as a wedding photographer to be taking August off
you know while the kids are so young I just want to spend that kind of precious time with them
so the camera comes with me everywhere
and taking pictures of them just naturally growing up it's an important thing
you know I just want to continue that even when we're on holiday when we're away from home
the story continues and the pictures still have to be made

My Unpopular Opinion: Islam is NOT a religion of peace - Duration: 10:38.
Islam to me is one the most- is the most feminist religion.
Now I just want to start this off by saying that this is my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
But just because you are entitled to your own opinion doesn't mean you should be disrespectful.
I am going to state my opinion in a respectful manner, I am not going to be using any discriminatory slurs or anything like that.
I am going to be respectful and just voice my opinion.
Now a lot of you clicked on this video because of the title, now a lot of you may disagree with me. Which is absolutely fine.
Please tell me why in the comment section, I want to have a sensible conversation. Lets refrain from being disrespectful to one and other.
Lets do all of this in a sensible and respectful manner.
Now the main topic I'm going to be covering in this video is Sharia Law.
so, lets start with Sharia Law. What is it?
Well, Sharia law or Islamic law is a set of religious principles which form part of the Islamic culture.
All aspects of a Muslim's life are governed by Sharia.
Sharia law comes from a combination of sources including the Qur'an (the Muslim holy book), the Hadith (sayings and conduct of the prophet Muhammad) and fatwas (the rulings of Islamic scholars).
Now what is my problem with it?
Well, as a legal system, the Sharia law is exceptionally broad.
While other legal codes regulate public behaviour, Sharia regulates public behaviour, private behaviour, and even private beliefs. Compared to other legal codes.
The Sharia law also prioritises punishment over rehabilitation and favours corporal and capital punishments over incarceration.
Of all legal systems in the world today, the Sharia Law is the most intrusive and restrictive, especially against women.
These are some of the polices included in Shariah Law.
• Theft is punishable by amputation of the hands (Quran 5:38).
• Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.
• Criticizing Muhammad or denying that he is a prophet is punishable by death.
• A woman or girl who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
• Testimonies of 4 male witnesses are required to prove rape of a female (Quran 24:13).
• A woman or girl who alleges rape without producing 4 male witnesses is guilty of adultery.
• A male convicted of rape can have his conviction dismissed by marrying his victim.
• A man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.
• A woman's testimony in court, carries ½ the weight of a man's.
• A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
Now think about this.. is this a law you want to live under?
No. Right?
But a lot of Muslims believe in this barbaric law, and feel like it should be instated in the West.
So you guys just saw those answers, now don't get me wrong not ALL Muslims believe in Sharia Law.
But there is a growing number of them who do.
and they exceed the once who don't.
From all those clips shown the last clip bothered me the most, cause it shows how people follow the religion Islam blindly.
and this doesn't just go for Islam this goes for ALL religion.
so many people don't think for themselves and just follow like sheep.
So now I'm going to show you guys a snippet of a video.
I'll make sure to leave the link to the full video in the description below.
Make sure you check it out and check out some of his other videos.
They are really insightful and funny.
What he said was 110% correct.
Muslims face so much conflict, criticism, and problems in the world not because of the West, or the Jews but because of their own ignorance.
Their dogmatic approach to life, and limited thinking which is based on books written by uneducated, barbaric Arab tribes takes their potential back to the 7th century.
The only way forward for Muslims is either to 1) Leave Islam and embrace a more humane, scientific, and logical way of thinking or 2) Reform Islam at-least to the point where you can think, criticize, and speak freely without any punishment.
Muslims like to brag about how they're the fastest growing religion and how so many people convert to Islam.
Well obviously when no one is allowed to leave the religion, when no one is allowed to speak or think anything different from what Islam permits what else do you expect?
Whenever someone offers constructive criticism on Islam, what happens to them?
Their government punishes them or at the very least bans them from the country, their social media accounts get banned, they make sure no one can see their criticism, why?
When you think you have the truth why are you so afraid of people challenging and criticizing your beliefs?
Religions, especially Islam are nothing but politics. Their all about numbers, power and control.
Muslims also demand respect however I've noticed they're the first ones to disrespect, insult, and criticize every other ideology or belief system that doesn't match with theirs.
Their own "holy" book which are the most unholy thing's I've read promote so much hatred towards so many groups of people; Christians, Jews, atheists, women, homosexuals, etc.
If we want to make the world into a better place, if we want to change the world for the better, that change needs to start from us.
That change includes accepting faults, mistakes, and things that don't work and apply to us anymore.
Its important to move forward from things that don't promote the well being of humanity and the world.
This means to let go of the past; past ideologies, belief systems, religions, anything that no longer serves humanity.
Being in the era of the information age and seeing the rise in technology and science a lot of changes are going to be happening in the next few decades.
It is our responsibility, especially as the youth of this world to take humanity into a better place.

WHAT'S ON MY IPHONE XS MAX! - Duration: 10:47.
hi guys it's Adrienne and welcome back to my channel I feel like I've done a
lot of videos like this lately but I can because I just got a new phone so I'm
doing what's on my iPhone 10x wait no not this again I'm doing a what's on my
iPhone 10's max today that's what I'm doing you've been following me you know
I had some struggles with my iCloud account but I finally got that resolved
resolved had to like wipe all my data but it's cool I finally activated this
phone yesterday I'm obsessed with it you guys the only crappy thing was that all
my apps just like downloaded randomly in no particular order so today when I was
getting my hair done I basically was going through all my ups it took me like
hours and I was organizing them again but the fun thing was that I kind of got
to like reorganize them however I want so I'm gonna show you what's on my phone
and let's just get right on into it oh subscribe if you haven't already cuz
I need more subscribers alright guys so if you didn't see my last video I'll
link it up here and down below but it's my unboxing so I got the 256 gigabytes
in gold iPhone X at iPhone 10s Mac so we're just gonna go through it
okay starting with my lock screen it's honestly dumb background I really just
put the first photo I saw it's my legs I'll change that probably to something
inspirational and cool later so basically I'm going on first of all I
have a nice little hoe have a nice day cuz obviously hello I want to have a
nice day sorry I'm paranoid it's gonna stop recording okay so this is pretty
similar to before not the home screen layout but basically my first page is
always like my most used go to app and I also did this little trick where I could
make a little space in the middle of it I made a video about it I'll link it
down below basically there's this website I'll put it on the screen and
you can go to it and you can make this little like invisible icon situation
it's actually really cool if you have something on your background that you
want to actually show and see then you can make it like this okay at the top I
have all of my camera stuff so my photo oh and my calendar randomly and my
calendars just always been right there forever so I can't change it I'm not
gonna change okay but I have my photos my camera and then halide is this new
camera app that I heard about this nice gentleman in the Apple Store told me
about it I haven't gotten to mess with it much yet but I'm gonna be making an
iPhone camera test video and I'm gonna talk about that app because basically
you can just completely use like manual setting
or your camera so you can adjust the focus adjust the lighting and all that
stuff from this app apparently it's incredible like might just set all my
cinema cameras screw that that's what I have there and then the next row is like
my go to editing apps for either Instagram or planning so I have huiji
obviously and then I have bounnam which is what I use to plan my Instagram feed
so I've talked about this several several times but basically it's just a
really good app to be able to like lay out your Instagram photos beforehand to
see if they look good with your feed and then I have unfold I've also talked
about this in videos but I just like to make some Instagram stories on here but
you can like buy little packs that have cool like I'm sure you guys have seen
they use like let's just pretend I'm putting random photos like obviously I
wouldn't put those photos together but you know okay you get it that's unfold
and visco of course we know fisk oh then the next row are just other random ones
I use a lot like the alarm clock sleep cycle is one lately that's been kind of
waking me up because guys I wake up in the morning it's like no other thing I
do I can't then I have MailChimp because I have an email list if you guys aren't
part of it you can click down below to subscribe I just send little like fun
productivity stuff I've been slacking a little bit on it I'm gonna be sending a
lot more stuff soon Swift MailChimp then I have ways because hashtag boycott
Google Maps and Apple Maps I just think that they don't work very well and Waze
is always accurate so I'm a big waistband so then I have this nice
little gap again I just use that website and make over got i/o to get that little
gap and then I have my notes my Spotify because I'm always listening to Spotify
in the car my YouTube and Instagram and funny enough I actually placed my social
media on the bottom half of the screen because since this phone is so big it's
kind of hard to like reach the apps and so I want the ones I touch the most to
be like lower so it's easy to reach yeah I know like for several problems but joy
of YouTube and Instagram and then I have this to-do list app by Microsoft I
actually haven't used it yet but I keep wanting to use it I hope it'll be good
so I just have that down there and then podcasts cuz I've been listening to a
ton of podcast lately especially in the car on planes like everywhere and then I
have YouTube studio which is like the back end of YouTube if you guys are at
youtubers then you know let's look at my Instagram for a second okay here we go
here we go I'm also yeah I told you I'm sorry Seth but they're very cheap
they're gonna be super inexpensive cuz I don't
it's just like I also need to make some money you know for all the hours hours I
put it but anyway here's some more like sneak preview situations anyway also or
think I use my preset on this one and on this one anyway and then of course on
the bottom dock I've always kept this the same it's my text my phone my Gmail
and then Safari moving on to the second page on the second page I did kind of
the same thing so the top ones are like apps that I don't want in folders
because I don't really want to like forget about them because I use them
fairly often so I have my wallet I don't actually use that that often but like
when I go travel and I'm on a plane and stuff I do got reminders weather and
then the other maps I know I just said boycott Apple Maps but let me explain
okay hold on if I ever need like a bird's-eye view of like a city or like
to see in relation to something like oh where is this compared to that I always
use the Apple Maps app because it's just so easy to see like everything from
above but ways I use for like actual directions and like how long is it gonna
take and all that kind of stuff then we got to Facebook which I really never
used but it's there anyway I got Twitter I also never use twitter twitter is a
great fun place but I just don't really use it snapchat I also don't use so it's
funny I was like the ones I use the most these ones I don't use the most but
compared to all my other social that I have in this folder called other social
I use it more so it's like may as well have them out in a boat so then the next
row I have kind of again like Instagram or photo apps that I use a lot so plan a
plan holy plena Lika no leave that one I actually haven't used yet but I
downloaded it so I'm gonna try to use it it is also an Instagram planning app but
you can actually schedule posts so basically I'm gonna try to use this I
feel like it would be maybe better than unum sorry
Unum love you but it's like you can basically schedule a post let's just
pretend that I'm gonna post this okay you upload it to here and then basically
you'd be like oh I'm gonna this is gonna be the caption like blah blah blah you
set the caption and then you just schedule it and then you say when or
post now then we have lens distortions this app which I'm not gonna go into
detail I do talk about a lot of these apps in other videos so I'll lengthy

There's a Secret Inside this 2005 Mini Cooper - Duration: 5:49.
it's time for show-off Sunday, where everyone has a chance to show off their
own car and here's this week's winner,
this is my 2005 Mini Cooper S, I purchased this car a little over three
years ago as my first car and I enjoy driving it every day, now these cars are
kind unreliable and they're pretty high-maintenance, but they're really fun
to drive, when I purchase this car it was pretty much stock except the head and
intake and it had an exhaust, but over my ownership I started to modify it little
by little as my money would allow, I'm pretty happy with where the car is at
right now, it makes a decent amount of power and it handles really well let me
show you some of the bits I have done to the car
now this is the r53 generation mini cooper which comes with a supercharged
1.6 liter iron block motor that was designed by chrysler, this car from
factory came with a hundred sixty-eight horsepower at the flywheel and 162
foot-pounds of torque, however my r53 is estimated to make over 250 horsepower at
the wheels and around 195 foot pounds of torque, to achieve this power I have a
cold air intake, a GP intercooler, I have a 15% supercharger reduction pulley
which increases boost to 15 psi factory was around 10 psi, for the cylinder head
I have an RMW big valve head which is a fully CNC ported head with oversized
valves, dual valve springs and titanium retainers, in the head I have an RMW
Grand Am cam, which is a really big cam it's got a 264 272 duration and a
.450 lift and the cam nearly touches the spark plug tubes I really
like it, I made it to the head I have an RMW shorty header down there which you
can't really see and then I made it to the header I have a way Motor Works
exhaust, the car also has an RMW 450cc
injectors and an RMW tune to make everything work, with the tune the
limiter has been bumped up to 7800 rpms whereas the stock tune was set
around 6750 rpms, I built the car to have more of a
high-end power band so it just keeps pulling when I floor it, this car doesn't
really move fast below 3000 rpms, but it pulls hard from 5,000 rpms all the way
up to 7800, for handling I have Coney yellow shocks paired with a set of swift
lowering springs, I also have an Ulta 22 millimeter rear sway bar set on the
stiffest setting and then I have an H Sport front sway bar set on the softest
setting, the car has polyurethane control arm bushings as well, which all brings a
somewhat stiff ride, but the handling is worth it, the upgraded sway bars allow for
very little body roll when cornering which I really like a lot, for my
summer wheels I have a set of NK RPF ones wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super
Sports which are nice tires for spirited daily driving behind the wheels I have
what's called a poor-man's big brake kit, which is a set of R56 cooper s brake
calipers which are from the next generation of mini cooper and these
brake calipers are a little bigger than the stock ones and I gotta say paired
with a set of good pads and rotors they bite really good I'm using a set of stop
tech rotors and G lack pads, but enough of me talking
let's rev up our engines and go for a drive
one final bit I'd like to include is that these cars only weigh in at about
2,600 pounds from factory, so they don't really need a lot of horsepower to get
them to move pretty good, that being said thank you for watching
my video and be sure to ring that Bell, well that was this week's video and
remember to have your car video highlighted here on my channel, check
this out,
so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember
to ring that Bell!

I wish all this was a dream.
- What happened? Why are you crying? Are you alright? - I am not. Not at all.
It feels like my heart is being torn apart.
The other day, Sanem came to your house and brought you a file, which turned out to be empty.
- This is the document that was supposed to be there. - And you say "forgive me".
- Emre! - Emre! What is this? What is this contract?
Here it says you and Aylin signed a partnership agreement, Emre. What is this?
- Brother, I can explain. - What the hell can you explain, ha? What?
Will you explain how you betrayed me?
Will you explain how you used innocent people for your own dirty agenda, Emre? Huh? What will you explain?
From now on, I don't have a brother.
I want to be grocer Sanem again.
I was happier when I was just a grocer.
I respect that you and Sanem will be working together...
...but the interest you have been showing towards her bothers me.
- Did you two not break up? - We just did. Yes...
...but I don't like you pestering her right in front of my eyes.
Turkish men are a little bit different. That's why you should watch yourself.

Why Would a Scientist Inject Himself with 3.5 Million Year Old Bacteria? - Duration: 5:30.
Let us know in the comments!

Omar: Wow! That's nice to see that kind of growth and it going all around the world;
in Europe, South America, Asia.

I read ALL 337 books in Skyrim so you don't have to - Duration: 14:00.
Ah, the Elder Scrolls, games chock-full of lore.
And Skyrim is no different.
Hidden amongst the draugr and dragons is a plethora of books full of very important
and incredibly niche details.
But with all the spellcasting and shouting you must do as dragonborn, who really has
the time to read all those books.
I DO.
APPARENTLY.
I read every book in Skyrim in order to answer the eternal question, "Should you read every
book in Skyrim?"
And I'm here to give you my top five recommendations of books, here in my SKYRIM BOOK REPORT.
Skyrim book report!
How many books are there, really, in Skyrim?
After all, there are only eight people credited as writers on Skyrim.
Those eight people are responsible for every quest, every voice acting line, every response
you can give to an NPC.
How much time do they have to write all those other books?
A lot!
Because they wrote this many books.
This many books.
*pained grin*
Or at least they wrote most of them because a few of them have been grandfathered in from
other Elder Scrolls games.
Before I get into the nitty gritty, let me explain my process on how I did this Skyrim
Book Report.
I printed out every book in Skryim, and then I spent multiple eight-hour days reading EVERY.
SINGLE.
BOOK.
I whittled it down to 338 books because I didn't include journals or diaries.
Everyone knows that self-published doesn't count.
In total, that's 571 pages, five and a half point font, over three hundred and sixteen
THOUSAND words.
I had two reactions to this.
My first reaction was, "Wow."
This is an incredible amount of world building.
To write 300,000 words that could essentially be skipped over while still having the full
Skyrim experience, it's amazing, and it's a level of world building that could only
exist in an interactive medium.
And for that, I commend you, Bethesda.
My second reaction to this,
was WHAT THE FUCK.
HEY TODD?
WHAT THE FU-
In my Skyrim Book Report, I will be discussing:
*smack*
That's a smash cut.
Hopefully.
If I do my editing correctly.
338 books.
Uh, actually, 337, I just realized, um, over here, Songs of Skyrim, I put both of them
in there, but there's a revised edition.
I lied.
It's just 337 books now.
Obviously, I don't have time to synopsize all of these, and believe me, you wouldn't
want to watch that even if I could.
I've split them into categories to make this a little bit easier.
First up, historical books!
These book titles you see rolling up the screen are all biographies or histories.
What I categorized as histories was anything that had big historical dates in them, explanatory
histories, or pretty much anything that was boring.
History's so BORING.
UGHHHH.
J.R.R. Tolkien
*kiss*
did the world a disservice by making every single fantasy writer think
that they need to chronicle every goddamn minute of their world in order for it to be
legitimate.
I don't give two shits about a king who lost a war 700 years ago.
*snoring noises* Get OUTTA here!
Some of these biographies are actually pretty interesting.
But a lot of them are written like The Chronicles of Nchuleft.
I didn't tab it out 'cause it's a shitty story.
"It happened in Second Planting (P.D. 1220) that Lord Ihlendam, on a journey in the Western
Uplands, came to Nchuleft; and Protector Anchard and General Rkungthunch met him there, and
Dalen-Zanchu also came to the meeting.
They talked together long by themselves; but this only was known of their business, that
they were to be friends of each other.
They parted, and each went home to his own colony."
RIVETING.
Ugh.
History's so boring.
I'm done with this.
Next category: Instructional books!
These are all field guides or basic recipes about how to make good armor or what flowers
go in which potions.
At best, they are in-fiction instructional books.
At worst, they are so obviously trying to get you to go do specific things.
Pulls you right out of the fiction!
C'mon man.
That's all I'm gonna say about that.
Everyone's favorite: the academic books.
Fun fact about academic books that I learned in college
is that no one has ever enjoyed writing or reading an academic paper.
WHY'D YOU PUT IT IN A VIDEO GAME.
Mythicaaaaal stories.
It's kind of weird to differentiate things between myth and history, especially in this
world where you can talk to demon princes.
I split these two up because these are very boring and these are slightly more palatable.
They're more like creation myths, or they're just like random stories that are fun to read,
so they're getting closer to good fiction.
The poetic and dramatic.
Everyone knows that poetry and theatre are meant to be seen and not read.
And you have NO IDEA how much it pains me that I do not have time to do staged readings
of all these.
Oh my GOD I would have loved that.
We have "eh."
What genre is "eh?"
It's the catchall.
Um, these tend to be accounts, kind of like medieval fantasy op-eds.
So I…
I just put 'em here.
EH!
We're done with these now, so…
Get outta here!
Finally, we have 59 books that I would consider good fiction.
GooooOOOD fiction.
What I did here is I gave myself three criteria about what would make good fiction in the
realm of Skyrim.
Number one, does it help build the world around us?
Number two, does it give us an interesting or different perspective on that world?
And number three, is it good?
Now you might say, "Brian, what gives you the right to say what is good fiction?"
I READ ALL 338 YA DINGUS.
BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THAT THESE WERE THE ONLY GOOD ONES.
THIS IS ALL I'M QUALIFIED TO DO NOW.
I need a drink.
*deep breath*
Okay!
There's still 59 of these, so I obviously can't summarize all of them, but I have
left five off, and they are my top five books of Skyrim.
So we're gonna talk about those.
Number five, Advances in Lockpicking.
Now Advances in Lockpicking is actually an instructional book.
But I think it does more than just the other instructional books, where you open them up
and suddenly you're better at lockpicking, because it's written by a thief in a very
interesting voice.
There's a great ending line for this book: "Some thieves can't read.
If you can't read, get someone to read this book to you.
It will make more sense then."
That's great.
I think that's a much more fun way than saying, "Here is how you pick a lock.
This is what this set of armor is."
Better than instructional.
Just good fiction.
Number four, Palla.
In a world where crazy creatures exist, how do you make fiction that is compelling that
people can just kind of experience in their own life.
Palla is a necromantic romantic book.
It's a story about a man who sees this beautiful statue of a woman fighting a beast and falls
instantly in love with this woman.
Turns out, she's dead!
From fighting that beast.
He decides to get into necromancy to bring her back from the dead.
I kind of don't want to ruin the surprise for you.
It manages to tell an interesting story while also introducing these ideas of monsters and
necromancy.
It's kind of weird, but it's very well written.
I'm gonna go ahead and put up three and two.
Why do I put up the Argonian Account and Feyfolken at the same time?
Turns out, it's written by the same fictional author: WAUGHIN JARTH.
This one's for you, Waughin!
I'm a big Jarth head!
He's not actually in the story at all, I couldn't find any instance of, like, him
as an NPC.
So I really hope he's in the next one.
Because I want to meet Waughin.
I just want to meet Waughin Jarth.
These ones were not actually written specifically for Skyrim.
They were grandfathered in.
But they do an incredible job of building the world around you.
The Argonian Account is actually the second story in a series all about Decumus Scotti.
This is kind of like the Hobbit of Tamriel, where we're taking this unassuming character
and thrusting them into this completely foreign, amazing landscape, except instead of a hobbit,
it is a midlevel bureaucrat.
It's full of screwball comedy and wonderful worldbuilding about the Black Marsh which
is where all the Argonians live.
You have to fast travel by being eaten alive by a worm.
That's great.
I want to see that whenever we go to the Black Marsh.
It's so flavorful, and that's why I'm a Jarth head.
Feyfolken.
It's a story about a scribe who's terrible at his job but gets this enchanted quill that
forces him to be amazing.
Sends himself into this madness, and he kills himself at the end of the book, spoiler alert.
But that's not what this story is really about.
It's an interesting fiction that teaches you about different Daedric princes, and which
ones could have caused this specific enchantment on the quill.
That's good worldbuilding!
I am interested in the story!
You told me something that I can learn about the world.
I had a good time reading Feyfolken!
Jarth, ya did it again!
And that leaves us with the number one book.
It's not The Lusty Argonian Maid.
I feel like I should broach this subject.
I'll tell you why I didn't include it in my good fiction list,
and it's not because I'm a prude, who doesn't love a little erotic lizard fiction?
*OOH COME ON BABY*
The reason I didn't include The Lusty Argonian Maid as one of the best
pieces of fiction is because it's SEVEN ACTS LONG.
Seven acts?
There is no way you can manage to maintain that level of erotic tension for seven acts.
That's like five and a half hours!
As a person who has done one or two plays in my life, that's just unfeasible.
Okay?
I'd like to see them try.
~I would like to see them try~
*OOH COME ON BABY*
Before I go to number one, I gotta go
get a flu shot.
This is not a joke.
It's important to get your flu shot.
Alright, I'm back.
The number one piece of fiction in Skyrim, not Waughin Jarth, I'm sorry.
It's Beggar, Thief, Warrior, King.
It's four books, actually.
But it's all part of Eslaf Erol's story.
It is completely fiction even within the fiction of Skyrim.
The reason I put it first is because it's the only book that was legitimately hilarious.
I straight up chortled.
*chortle*
That's what I did.
In real life.
That's amazing.
The writing style of these four books is just naturally hilarious.
There are so many bland, cookie-cutter stories in Skyrim that follow the same set up, twist, punchline.
This doesn't have that.
It's just a good story.
One of these writers was just flexing, and I think that's wonderful that a writer had
a chance to—within the fiction of Skyrim—write something that's just naturally funny.
You should all go home, onto your computers, boot up Skyrim, find these four books, and
then read them, in order.
It's worth it!
That's my quest, for you in Skyrim.
300 gold points.
That's it!
That's it, that's all of the books.
So like, what did I learn from reading all 338 books of Skyrim?
Surprisingly, a whole lot.
Like, there are two main takeaways that I pulled from this.
Number one, this is a masterclass on how to write effective flavor text.
Between all of these, historical, instructional, the good fiction, and, you know, the iffy fiction.
This is a way to learn what to do and what not to do.
Obviously, not everyone is going to connect with certain types of flavor text.
I'm sure there's a lot of people that disagree with me and think that the historical
is the most important flavor text.
And you know what?
They are valid.
And they're wrong.
And they always seem to find my comment sections.
When you take something good like Feyfolken which teaches you about the Daedric princes,
but in an interesting way, it really shines in comparison to the three and a half million
biographies of Barenziah.
You don't even see them in Skyrim.
I don't care about Barenziah.
IT'S BORIIIIIII-
But not like Feyfolken!
That's really interesting and effective.
Also it just teaches you about all these wonderful forms of fiction.
If you're a fiction teacher, like, teach your kids with Skyrim!
TEACH THE KIDS.
WITH SKYRIM.
I got a creative writing degree.
That's all I have to say about that.
Second takeaway, this is a wonderful teaching device about unreliable narrators.
So many of these histories are negating other ones.
This is a wonderful way of showing people you need to read everything if you're going
to get the whole picture.
I read everything.
I am the keeper of the picture.
That's every book in Skyrim.
So it's time for us to revisit that ever present question, "Should you read every
book in Skyrim?"
NO!
WHAT?
HOW COULD YOU WATCH THIS WHOLE 10+ MINUTE VIDEO AND THINK THAT I WOULD SAY ANYTH- WHAT?
NO!
I BORE THIS BURDEN!
FOR YOU!
DON'T READ THEM!
NO!
Please don't read them all.
DON'T READ THEM!
You can read the top five, that's fine.
GRRRRR.
HOW DARE YOU JETTISON MY GIFT!
DON'T READ THEM!

ZOOM RETURNS CONFIRMED! - The Flash Season 5 100th Episode - Duration: 11:23.
I wonder what face I'll be wearing next time we meet can't wait Christmas
What's Good Youtube Warstu here with a video on the flash season 5 so we've
come across some pretty interesting news that was posted on the 26th of October
by a good friend BC world pull over at DC world had the exclusive he was at n
cm Comic Con in London and he was speaking to the actor that plays the
voice of zoom and people thinking Teddy says no Teddy Sears doesn't play the
voice I'm on about the zoom of voice Tony Todd said to him that in the
episode 100 of the flash it will feature some past speedsters returning wanting a
piece of Barry he just done his scenes and we can't wait so this is pretty
awesome news so make sure to go over to his website which is DC world or UK he
specializes in DC kind of the DC EU DC TV shows the DC streamers having
everything DC basically and also check him out DC world on Twitter because this
whole video is under the premise of what he said so this interesting story it's
very interesting because if you remember a while ago there was a rumor it was I
think it was for channel reddit that in episode 100 which is a very special
episode because let's be honest not many TV shows make it past 100 episode it is
a crazy master and thank God that this episode
100 of the flash season 5 does not happen during the crossover because I
feel it ruin episode 100 of arrow that it had to conflict with the crossover
why because the crossovers never good so zoom is going to be returning the
episode 100 obviously there wasn't many behind the scenes stuff I mean obviously
we here on the Wall Street channel we hit generally get all the information
before everyone else I mean I broke the cicada was the villain for season 5
story before any other channel here on YouTube and really anywhere on the
Internet to be honest if you don't really think I was true you can go look
back so we didn't really get told any information about so 100 as they were
shooting most of it behind closed doors which is how they should
but with the modern world everything's got to be shot outside that's why no big
TV shows big movies stuff gets out so it's very weird how the actor playing
the voice for zoom which so freely said yeah I'm gonna be in episode 100 can't
wait so pretty pretty random so zoom did appear in season 2 of the flash and
realistically speaking he's the only evil villain but war shoe reverse-flash
killed baryons mother yes but reverse flash didn't go around
killing people randomly I remember the scene in jitters
where zoom came in and literally killed every single cop so zoom is by far the
scariest most savage villain we've ever come across in the flash and I don't
think we're ever going to beat him because I know Nora Allen's like cicada
is such a beast no one's ever defeated him not even the
Justice League etc but it's like he's only going after metahumans good or bad
he's not killing random people so other speedsters will appear now this is where
there's a massive continuity error because if sabotage going to appear that
can't really happen because at the moment it raised him from the timeline
he sees to ever exist and obviously we did see the sabotage costume in the
flash Museum in the most recent episode of the flash but that's gonna have to be
a replica because the suit disappeared so I don't understand what's going on
there if you do know let me know in the comment box down below guys so it is
gonna be cool so I guess most people would jump on there it's going to be a
fight inside the Speed Force theory um I mean I don't really think the whole
episode is gonna be based around savat our reverse flash is zoom I mean
we have to understand now that the timelines being completely changed Nora
Allen is here and another fact that I don't see anyone talking about not that
I actually look is that the flash this year didn't start six months in the
future so they're not currently in October the show resumed in May where it
ended so why am I saying this guy's because zoom first appeared I think it
was a Christmas episode because remember there's like clip where he says Merry
Christmas or happy Christmas or something I there's an end tag like that
right so how are we going to get from May til
Christmas because he's gonna appear in episode 8 of the flesh but how are they
gonna get from May to Christmas if there's going to be no time jump so
massive continuity error on the flash side but let's be honest guys the
writers can't keep up with everything they always make continuity errors so we
can't really passion for that so if this episode is gonna come and we know it
actually is it's going to have to be around Christmas so it will be one of
the last episodes that we're going to have on the fuch this year but guys I
really want to know how are we going to get this episode actually coming through
well what do you mean well there's gonna have to be a time jump somewhere so this
it's going to be episode 100 I don't really pay attention to numbers so I
believe the crossover is going to be episode 9 and this episode will be
episode 8 so all I'm saying is how are we going to get from May to December
because they've messed himself up guys this will be episode 9 all right I think
episode 9 yeah because yeah okay guys so I got it
so the mid-season finale is episode 9 crossovers update so how are we gonna
get from May till Christmas how there's gonna have to be some time jump I know
Nora Allen's messed a time line up but realistically how can we get to December
so we are led to believe that we're going to have the flash going up against
in some kind of formality against avatar reverse flash and zoom I don't think the
rival or Jesse quick or Jay Garrick or people that can appear because they
weren't really seen on set them days so they want a piece of Barry so guys how
is this how do you think this is gonna play out I mean obviously reverse flash
will be coming about this season there's just so many Easter eggs pointing
towards reverse flash will reappear so I believe he's gonna reappear but what
phases is going to have them because I remember during the well this shocking
crossover last year the crisis not X he says what face will be wearing next
Barry well like The Fast Show wants you to believe
that it's going to be Nora Allen's face because there's so many reverse-flash
Easter eggs like the fact that in this week's promo they're like I'm going to
kill you Barry do you honestly think if this is Nayan
she's gonna kill her father no that'll be some stupid negative Speed Force kind
of has taken over or something like that but it is interesting so would it happen
inside the Speed Force maybe is it most likely will be something ridiculous like
a hallucination and you got everyone - up zooms coming back yeah zooms cool I
really want Teddy Sears to come back we haven't really had a good villain since
he disappeared savat I was a good villain it just wasn't executed properly
the thinker was good towards the end cicada at that moment just seems to Opie
and like when cicadas around he can take your powers away so they've got no hope
unless they do detective work so it's a lower case season the moment but zoom is
coming back so that it's fantastic news but is Teddy say it's gonna be gonna be
the person inside the zoom suit no it's just gonna be the voice of zoom
so I'm expecting it to be a hallucination
or some speed foreseen or a dream or something like that but it's very
fascinating how he says wanting a piece of Barry I don't think they're randomly
gonna have a villain of the week being zoom it's avatar reverse-flash rival
forced you I don't really think that's going to be the case but it is
fascinating how they're going to get to that episode is it going to be the
ramifications of what Nora Allen's doing from being in timeline I mean you know
me I've got a big problem with the continuity issue that she's in the
current timeline cicada was supposed to be David Hirsh which is actually the
comic-book name but now David Hirsh isn't cicada in this timeline it's
someone completely different so is her being in the current timeline going to
make these characters species reappear well no because sabotage never existed
he cease to exist so how is sabot are going to randomly reappear in this
season without there being a massive plot hole now I don't like to be
negative and look for plot holes because then it kind of makes negative impact it
makes you seem negative about the show I do like the show but
is a big problem so guys I want to know in the comic book down below how is zoom
reverse flash at me reverse flash makes sense because you're never going to kill
him the whole zoom things a bit up in the
air as well because zoom at the end of the season turned into black flash and
essentially was sent back to the Speed Force he reappeared on legends and black
flash was kind of taken out and he reappeared and went back into the Speed
Force so zoom coming back makes sense sabotage come back makes absolutely no
sense because at the moment because iris didn't die he never actually existed I
mean Todd he'll been at Comic Con couldn't even explain something now if
you're a showrunner for a TV show movie book comic book and you can't even
explain your own storyline why are you working for them so reverse flash and
zoom reappearing yeah I mean zoom makes sense because you could just say Hugh
census people butts avatar coming back makes absolutely no sense guys anyway
let me know down below what you think how is sabot are gonna return how is
zoom gonna turn how to reverse flash gonna return I guess the rival might
return but like I said it started video guys make sure to check out DC world or
UK and check out DC world for all the latest DC news they are pretty good at
finding all the latest news and DC well do generally have a lot of exclusive
information when it comes to the UK Comic Cons like the MCM comic-con there
is villains there very good again any information at
cons that no one else seems to get because if you didn't answer this quick
if he didn't tell everyone this no one would know so it's pretty cool
information so props to DC world there's such a cool reveal although we kind of
already knew from a leak it's just good to get your confirmation I know I don't
do 20,000 flash videos a week but I do do the flash videos when they're
relevant and I will be posted in a Elseworlds video I do have some
information that no other persons talking about the moment but I'm gonna
hold on to it for a little while to get a bit more Intel about what really is
going on in Arkham Asylum anyway guys please like subscribe and comment and I
will catch you in another video very soon catch ya later

Gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
I'm sorry baby, gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
I'm sorry baby, gonna have to let you down
I'm sorry baby, gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
It's so difficult, I can't seem to let you know
I try, I try, I try to reach you
It's impossible, I can't seem to let you go
Need to rearrange, babe
We're always standing too far in-between
How could I know we'd never be enough
Out of love
Gonna have to let you down
Gonna have to let you down
I'm sorry baby, gonna have to let you down
It's so difficult, I can't seem to let you know
I try, I try, I try to reach you
It's impossible, I can't seem to let you go
I believe there is nothing left for me, left to see
Too many times I've told you I believe
They faded faster than we triped the wire
My desires
Why does Sorry never feel sincere, but you gotta hear
Never thought that feelings could disappear
I gotta tell you but I wanna wait
Hesitate

Erkenci Kuş / Early Bird Trailer - Episode 18 (Eng & Tur Subs) - Duration: 1:02.

How School Trains Us To Fail In The Real World - Duration: 7:42.
The modern American school system does not encompass or define learning, it is a dominant
subset of it. Do you want to know why I dislike school? Homework, sure, but more important
than that are these four ways that school trains us to fail in "the real world."
Schools teach knowledge, but life requires wisdom
"Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you
make a life." — Sandara Carey Instead of learning critical life skills on
how to manage money, how to negotiate, or how to communicate, kids are mostly taught
to memorize information. This is helpful to learn, but not at the cost of not learning
critical life skills. Many people put these "life" skills on the onus of the parents
to teach their kids, but not all parents are qualified to teach these lessons, and many
assume that school is "enough learning." The school system would be a perfect place
to learn these indispensable skills. I can't give school a hall pass on this
one, because it is set up as a core way that kids are prepared to live in the world. Why
is it positioned as such when it lacks personal growth training, financial management training,
communication training, emotional intelligence training, and healthy living training? Psychology
is the closest course to any of these, but it's mostly in college and typically optional.
You could come up with a few examples of where these skills are taught in school, or where
some wisdom is imparted by a particularly great teacher. But this is a general problem
of focus that schools have. Schools are not set up to teach us what matters most.
School (noun) — A place where students suck on an information teat instead of learning
how to feed themselves. Here's what I would love to see changed.
What do you think? Classes for important life skills — money
management, interpersonal communication, miscellaneous psychology, habits, goals, etc.
Incorporation into existing classes — in math, talk about smart credit card usage to
avoid freaking 18% interest rates, how to build credit, how to pick the right health
insurance, why new cars are a horrible investment, etc.
Start teaching this sooner than college. Not everyone goes to college, but everyone needs
to know this stuff. School is an unsuitable learning environment
for many jobs For those that say school is not the place
to impart wisdom to youngsters, but to prepare them for the workplace, then why is it that
it's absolutely horrible at accomplishing that?
Let's look at some stats that make colleges cringe (from a Mckinsey consulting firm report):
Warning: these stats are disturbing… In 2011, 1.5 million, or 53.6% of college
grads under age 25 were out of work or underemployed. And for those that do have jobs? 48% of employed
U.S. college grads are in jobs that require less than a four-year degree.
30% of college graduates don't feel college prepared them for the world of work.
Six times as many graduates are working in retail or hospitality as had originally planned.
It used to be that apprenticeships were the norm; you'd learn the hands-on skills and
expertise from a mature worker in your field. The downside was that back then, it was more
like, "hey kid, you're going to be a carpenter because that's what your family has always
done." Today we have more choices, but with it has come an inferior form of learning.
Most professions, even today's digitally-based jobs, need hands-on training and mentorship.
Programming boot camps are popping up, showing how horrible the current school model is.
In 2–3 months, 90% or more of graduates have a job making more than $80,000 a year
(within just a few months of graduation). Programming boot camps are old-school intense
apprenticeships where students learn to code from knowledgeable programmers already working
in the field. It's all hands-on "real world" work, and the graduates are highly
valued for the skills they possess when they enter the job market. I hope this emerging
format continues to grow and expand into other areas as an alternative to college. Even if
you disagree with everything I've said, competition is a good thing and will promote
the improvement of schools. College claims to be the safe, sure way for
a great career (it's not) Everyone must learn at some point that nobody
cares much about their "potential." When a company selects from a sea of faces
and they all have identical or similar degrees, the value of those degrees shrinks, and they
will look for the people who can do what they need right now. That's exactly what we're
seeing, and the 2008 recession amplified it. And don't count on them seeing your potential
like I did. Example: Candidate A has 95% overall potential
but can only do 15% of the job now — she must be trained. Candidate B has 63% overall
potential but can do 85% of the job right now — he's ready to go. Candidate
B gets the job almost every time. Potential is exceedingly difficult to gauge
accurately and so it is often not considered by employers. The answer to "where do you
see yourself in 5 years?" question doesn't quite nail down your potential. Specific job
skills, however, are readily knowable by employers with observation and questioning, and are
given much greater weight in the world. Whether or not you go to college, and whether
or not you want to work for yourself or for a company, build skills and experience in
your desired field. And if you want to be even smarter, network heavily. These things
matter; they bring results. And take it from me — don't expect your diploma to
get you anywhere unless you have the applicable work experience and skills to go with it;
having the ability to learn a skill set doesn't mean much when your competitors already have
that skill set. Grades distort our perception of reality
You can get straight As in school, but nobody, no matter how successful, gets straight As
in life. No, in life, you tend to get As by getting Fs first. Lots and lots of Fs.
Stephen King probably still has his huge stack of publisher rejection slips. Those were "real
world Fs," folks. Stephen King, one of the most successful authors in history, got dozens
and dozens of Fs before he got his first real life A. School trains us to have the mindset
that a given amount of effort will always bring a measurable, predictable, and successful
result. The real world doesn't work like that.
Colonel Sanders had 1,009 rejections he received for his chicken recipe before the first yes.
And many of his rejections were humiliating, like an F- or something. If you give an "A"
effort in school, you succeed every time. If you give an "A" effort in life, you're
lucky to succeed on the 30th try. Successful blogger, author, and entrepreneur
James Altucher said that about 17 out of his 20 businesses have failed. But the ones that
did well were worth millions of dollars. There will always be talented authors whose
books remain unknown, superior athletes who never get a chance, and brilliant people who
remain jobless. Meanwhile, some others who are in the limelight may not be deserving
of it. Unlike test grades and GPAs, life is rarely fair.
The best thing about school preparing us to fail in the real world, is that while you
can "flunk out" of school, you only flunk out of life if you give up. And even better
than that, it only takes one great "A" to succeed.
