Youtube daily report w Apr 20 2017

There's something in the Bahrain air tonight

and I'm not just talking about the sand.

Our brightest minds have thrust their brightest ideas

into the spotlight of the Sakhir circuit this evening

as we look ahead once more to a Grand Prix

that has thrilled us so consistently in the past.

Formula 1 returns to the desert today

on this exceptional 3.36 mile circuit.

Fifteen corners provide plenty of overtaking opportunities

and two DRS-zones will help with that as well.

It could be a strategic race, this one

with Sakhir notorious for eating up the rear tyres.

Watch out for drivers managing their rubber

at some point during the Grand Prix.

Bahrain has showed us many times in the past though, Anthony Davidson

that a good strategy will only take you so far.

Beyond that, you need good racecraft

and you need good consistency.

And a little bit of luck too, I'd say.

This is one of those circuits where the Safety Car always seems to come out

just at the right time

to condense the field together and mix up the cars on different strategies.

It's hard on brakes, it's tough on fuel

and the main overtaking opportunity in down into Turn 1

where it's easy to outbrake your opponent

and potentially have a bit of argy-bargy as well.

"Your objective today is to get into the Top 9."

We're almost ready to go then

and this is what the starting grid looks like for today's race:

Max Verstappen put in a fantastic lap yesterday

and he starts from pole position

edging out Raikkonen, who'll start P2.

Looking down the rest of the grid, we have:

Rosberg - Hamilton

Daniel Ricciardo - and Vettel

Bottas - Button

Pérez - and Daniil Kvyat

Hülkenberg - Gutiérrez

Romain Grosjean - and Sainz

Alonso - Magnussen

Felipe Nasr - and Marcus Ericsson

Haryanto - and Wehrlein

Jolyon Palmer - and Felipe Massa completes the grid.

And now it's time to head down to the track!

A great win then, for the Williams team today!

And I have to wonder, Anthony Davidson

just what set them apart from the competition here.

Well, the Safety Car completely changed the race, didn't it?

It's hard to say exactly what would've happened without it

but there's no question that they came out of that situation in a good position.

Oh, here they are now!

I always love seeing the independent teams do well.

Williams have a long and storied history with F1

and I'm delighted to see them on the top step of the podium.

And now, let's take a look at the driver standings:

Felipe Massa takes over the lead of the drivers' championship

after that excellent result.

And now I'd like to ask you, Anthony Davidson

who was your driver of the day?

Well, it's got to be Felipe Massa, hasn't it?

He fought so hard and had incredible pace at times

I don't think anyone did a better job today.

And here's how things are shaping up in the constructors' championship:

We saw a dip in form from the championship leaders today.

Their lead has takes a significant blow.

There was also a strong showing from the Mercedes team today

as they make their way up the standings.

It was great having you with us for this weekend

I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Until next time though, goodbye.

The Real Reason We Never Hear From Monty Python Anymore - Duration: 7:25.

The legendary comedy group Monty Python was once a force of nature, influencing everything

that came after them with their surreal, absurdist approach to comedy.

So, why don't we hear from them anymore?

When Graham Chapman ceased to be in 1989, fellow Python member Terry Jones described

it as "the worst case of party-pooping [he'd] ever seen."

His death came the day before Python's 20th anniversary, and what followed was a bizarre

but fitting eulogy, written to pay tribute to the man who'd written a dead parrot into

one of the troupe's most famous sketches.

"Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard, I hope he fries."

Chapman becoming an ex-person seemed to put a damper on any kind of authentic reunion,

but what about the others?

What happened to the late, great Monty Python?

Terry Jones's illness

When Michael Palin presented Terry Jones with the 2016 BAFTA Cymru for Outstanding Contribution

to Film and Television, he described Jones as the heart of the Pythons.

"His force of character and tireless workaholism kept us all up to the mark."

Just before the awards ceremony, it was announced that he wouldn't be giving any interviews.

He'd been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia, a type of dementia that impacted

his ability to communicate.

At the time of the awards ceremony, Jones's son Bill spoke for him, and in February 2017,

he made another appearance at the Royal Hospital Chelsea at an afternoon tea organized to help

dementia and cancer patients.

At the event, it was announced that he could no longer write.

In the years leading up to his diagnosis, Jones had still been busy with non-Python

projects, including working on a series of kids' books that he started publishing in

1981.

In 2011 he released Evil Machines, a collection of stories based on the idea that machines

are actually out to get us.

"What's that for?"

"That's the machine that goes PING!"

In 2016 it was announced that The Truthful Phone was going to get the movie treatment.

So while Jones may be down, he's definitely not out.

Michael Palin's travel shows

Outside of Python, Michael Palin has been consistently busy with projects as well.

His ongoing series of travel shows started in 1980.

Even though he's not doing as many lately, there may not really be anywhere else left

on the planet for him to visit anyway.

The Amazon?

Check.

The Himalayas?

Check.

He's basically re-enacting the entirety of Nintendo's DuckTales.

He's also been writing books and spotting trains, but when it comes to non-Python projects

he's most proud of, that would be the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children, which

came about after his appearance as Ken in A Fish Called Wanda.

"... plenty of time."

(more noises)."

His stammering in that film was based on his father, who suffered from a pronounced stutter,

so Palin was happy to lend his name to the therapeutic center.

What's still on Palin's list of things to do?

The actor explained:

"Oh, quite ordinary things.

Observing the world.

Learning about trains.

Discovering new music.

[...] I just want to do … what I can do.

And be judged on that.

All of this comes back to what Ernest Hemingway said: 'Don't talk about writing; just write.'

And I sometimes tend to think: 'Don't talk about living; just live.'"

John Cleese's purism

In 2015, John Cleese took a look back at just why he left Monty Python's Flying Circus after

three seasons, and with uncharacteristic seriousness, said that it was largely because he was still

a purist while, for the others, it was all about having fun.

He told CBS,

"I was genuinely bothered that by the third series we weren't really doing original material."

That didn't keep him from feeling guilty about leaving, but he's also spoken about some pretty

tragic behind-the-scenes drama that had developed during the third season, specifically Graham

Chapman's alcoholism.

Between that, the time commitment, and the lack of originality, he'd had enough.

Clearly, it was all a bit too silly to continue.

John Cleese in particular feels that political correctness has done some serious damage to

the state of comedy, saying that if they took Monty Python's Flying Circus in front of the

BBC today, they never would have made it to air.

Basically, we haven't seen more Python because, according to Cleese, the world can't handle it.

Cleese has also been pretty busy.

In 2011, he kicked off his aptly-named "Alimony Tour," which was largely done to pay the £600,000

a year he owed his ex-wife.

"I call it the Alimony Tour: Year Three or Feeding the Beast."

Terry Gilliam's moved on

There's not enough time in the day to talk about just what Terry Gilliam has been doing

since he left the Pythons.

He's established a record for making some of the strangest, most complex, and most troubled

films in Hollywood history, including Brazil, 12 Monkeys, and The Imaginarium of Doctor

Parnassus.

Needless to say, it's clear that he's moved on to something completely different.

In 2014, Monty Python was gearing up for their long-awaited reunion, and Gilliam was less

than thrilled about the whole thing.

At the time, he was working on another project: The English National Opera's Benvenuto Cellini,

which was reportedly all but unperformable because of its complexity.

Sounds like it's right up his alley?

Absolutely.

But when it came to the 10 Monty Python shows at the O2, he told the London Evening Standard,

"Actually, the truth is I find it depressing that we're getting back together again.

It's like, we worked so hard to get careers beyond it, to get to this stage, and now we're

being dragged back again."

Eric Idle's Broadway ambitions

The success of the musical Spamalot proved just how much the world still loves the Pythons.

It didn't come without its challenges, though, and when Monty Python broke up, they agreed

that anything Python-related was going to be an all-or-nothing deal.

If one didn't want something to happen, it wasn't going to happen.

Eric Idle wrote Spamalot largely on his own, and only involved the rest of the group when

he had something complete.

Spamalot got the unanimous thumbs-up, although Idle has said, "If it flops, they can just

blame me."

And then they were sued for it.

In 2012, Holy Grail producer Mark Forstater claimed that he was the "seventh Python,"

and that he deserved a larger cut of the money from Spamalot, based in on a 1974 agreement

that said he was entitled to a share of 50 percent of Holy Grail's merchandising.

Uncoincidentally, the lawsuit came on the heels of Forstater's own declaration of bankruptcy.

Shockingly, he won the suit, leaving the Pythons to pay him even more money while still, presumably,

doing all the work themselves — probably less motivated than ever.

They want to finish on a good note

In 2015, the Pythons invaded the Tribeca Film Festival.

Shows were shown, movies were watched, and John Oliver assembled them for a frank talk

on life and laughs as a Python.

When they talked about where they were going from there, they said that there was always

a fear that they were embarrassing themselves.

When you're on and you do a joke and about six people in the audience go 'a-heh heh heh,'

you really want to kill yourself."

It was John Cleese who said he doubts that he understands his audience anymore, and that

the kind of comedy they were so good at is next-to-impossible when you don't understand

the audience you're in front of.

At the end of the Python's final appearance together, Cleese says that he realized something

— that what they were doing was a good thing.

The others agreed, with Eric Idle summing it up best.

"I think the thing that I really loved most was watching it come to an end, and how it

was dignified and touching and moving.

And not going on and on … I think that's right, I think it's lovely.

I think you want to finish on a good moment, and it was a great moment."

"How about a happy ending, sir?"

"Chris, thank God you're safe!"

"Nah, you wouldn't want that, would you?"

"Why wouldn't I want that?"

"That was terrific!"

"Great, yeah!"

How to Become a Fashion Designer - Duration: 3:55.

Usually, you know, with our garments we

will drape it, make a pattern, test it

then we'll sew it and do a mock-up

and then if that fits we will put in production.

This is like a new accessory that we're testing out we've not really done this before.

Hi, I'm Valerie Mayen and I'm a Fashion Designer.

My brand is called Yellowcake.

I started the company in 2008 on Etsy when it was just starting out.

We were gathering clients from all over the world

Kuwait, London, Singapore, Vietnam

New York, California, Ireland and then Project Runway happened.

Welcome to our studio.

This is where I do most of my sewing

This is my pattern table.

This is primarily the side that I work on

usually the interns work on that side

any crafting or any tomfoolery any

messes happen on that side but this

side is like the no-work zone for anyone that's not me.

I did my undergrad in illustration/graphic design

I had my BFA in that but I found what I really

wanted to do, which I wanted to do it even before I went to art school

I wanted to be in fashion but I had never sewn a stitch in my life.

I didn't know anything about fashion design school.

I was to intimidated by it , so I pursued it the best way I could.

I took a couple classes at some small community college versions of design school

And I learned the basics. I learn how to make a skirt, a shirt and a dress.

Cutting is definitely a skill that's hard to come by

in most home CMT, cut make and trim factories

this is where they make larger quantities of products.

They have like a person that just does cutting.

So being a cutter is like a very specific, skilled, & difficult job to do

There's a ton of other fashion jobs that

people could do that we're even starting to

realizing that we we have a need for.

You know, so social media is a huge aspect of fashion

I mean it's a very visual industry,

good writers are hard to come by,

people who are quick-witted and good with clever captions and hastags.

People who have a good eye for photography

Pricing and budgeting and wholesaling.

You could be a sales rep

An events planner, you know, for fashion events

you could be a production manager

there's so many things in fashion that

you could do that aren't just about

fashion design.... I would kill for an assistant.

If I had a fashion assistant that

knew how to speak language, how to write

proper form or emails to professional

constituents that I have that would be

killer for me right now.

The best advice I can give anyone looking to get in the

fashion industry is to be willing and

ready to do anything and everything you

can or that's asked of you, within reason.

You know like obviously don't compromise

your values and your morals and your

human integrity and dignity but you know

a lot of times when we get interns

hands down, all of them say they want to design

or they want to do social media or want to do marketing

You know, and hello take a number

everyone wants to do that but

what I need sometimes is an intern that

wants to sweep the floors or organize

our pattern library or run errands.

If I have a girl that doesn't complain

but does anything I ask of her,

is reliable, dependable, honest, hardworking

and they're quickly going to

work their way up and I'm going to trust them.

I'm going to Mr. Miyagi them, you know,

like if I can trust them with the small things

I can trust them with the big things

so it's really all about your attitude

because everyone and their mom

wants to get in the fashion industry and

its competitive, it's saturated, it's not easy

It's definitely not for people who just like clothes

and if you just like shopping then you should

probably marry rich because this isn't for you.

Real Christians DO NOT SIN - Duration: 2:42.

Only sinners sin every day. They sin

like a drinking water, it does not bother

them. Those who have been born again of the

Spirit of God, and who follow Jesus

Chris,t do not sin. They obey Jesus, they

sin no more. You cannot follow Jesus

Christ and continue in sin. Those who sin

or of the devil. Many justify their sin

by wrongly quoting The Lord's Prayer as

recorded in Matthew 6:12. Jesus said: "forgive us our debts as we

have also forgiven our debtors." Many

wrongly quote it as: "forgive us our sins as

we have forgiven those who have sinned

against us" and "forgive us our trespasses"

Some Bible translations have been

wrongly translated. The word debt has

been changed to "sin" to justify

Christians continuing in sin, and that is

how many are deceived. Go and research

the different Bible translations. The

true translations say: "forgive us our

debts as we have also forgiven our

debtors." By wrongly quoting that

scripture, the Lord's Prayer, many justify

living in sin and daily asking

forgiveness. They have never repented,

they are still in sin. They are not

following Jesus Christ, they are sons of

the devil. Do not be deceived, if you

follow Jesus Christ you will not sin.

You will be very careful to obey Jesus

and live holy and righteous, and sin no

more. Repent and be baptized

and sin no more, and follow Jesus Christ

or else you will perish.

May Jesus bless you.

Jesus Christ is alive and hell is

real. I am here to introduce you to Jesus

Christ so that you can know Him and

follow Him and have eternal life.

Paleo vs Keto - Duration: 12:44.

Hi, keto friends and family! I'm Heather

and this is What's Up Wednesday. Sorry

for the delay I was having trouble with

my internet - what's new? Today over on

the blog, we've got recipe day and I'm

sharing with you my favorite St. Louis

Ribs with my own homemade barbecue sauce,

which is a huge hit in my house. You're going to get your

hands dirty, literally. So, you could

hopefully make these for... whether

Memorial Day or other backyard barbecues

or family get-togethers, it's that time

of year. That's what you're going to

be seeing on the blog on recipe day from

now until the kick-off of summer - stuff

that you can share with people that

maybe aren't eating keto or people that

you need to feed a lot of and on a

little budget. I'm totally familiar

with that. I also wanted to talk

today about the difference between paleo

vs keto. You know, paleo really took

hold of a lot of us five-six

years ago. If you haven't heard of paleo,

it's very similar to keto, but there's

some pretty big differences. How many

of you out there have actually heard of

paleo? How many of you have tried paleo?

And how many of you lost weight on paleo...

or didn't and so you just totally gave

up and walked away? I fall into that camp.

Before I really came to keto or even

really knew about the ketogenic

lifestyle, paleo was on my radar. I was

doing gluten-free. I was doing organic. I

had an uncle who was hardcore paleo

after coming back from a pretty massive

heart attack and went against

conventional wisdom, read Wheat Belly,

which was really a game-changer for him

and in turn kind of spread the word for

our family. And so that was really my

first go-round with paleo and eating

like our ancestors. That's really

the foundation of paleo: what did

the hunter-gatherers eat? And you can

pretty much eat the same thing. So on the

Paleo diet, you can eat wild-caught fish,

you can eat pasture-raised game,

meats, staying away from any

unpasteurized dairy... so you could do raw

unpasteurized dairy, minimally, on some.

Some paleo people say no dairy at all.

Eggs, seeds, nuts... let's see what else... seeds

nuts, fruits, veggies... things like that. But

they also have ancient grains, honey,

coconut sugar, things that you can find

naturally occurring. So all of that

is on the table. The big difference

between paleo vs keto is - keto does no

grains. So not even the quinoa.

That's off the table. Or wild

rice. I know that for a lot of people

that was like, "What do you mean no quinoa?

That's an ancient grain, we should be

able to have that." No quinoa, no

ancient grains. The other thing too is no

sweeteners. So we don't do honey. We don't

do coconut sugar. If we're doing sweeteners

its stevia. Paleo uses a lot of

dates in their sweet recipes.

In the desserts and whatnot, dates are a

big substitute that I see happening a

lot. And then keto, as most of you know,

fruits are very limited to things like

raspberries, blueberries, blackberries... the

berries are really where you're going to

get all your bang for your buck. Low

glycemic index and it gives you a little

bit of sweetness but without overloading

your body with fructose, which is sugar

and we're trying to stay away from that!

Lemons, limes those are all good but

anything other than that - and

strawberries minimally also - anything

other than that, we're staying away from.

I know that I have a lot of people

that are coming from paleo into the keto

world and are kind of confused about

some of this stuff. And I had a client

not too long ago give me her food

journal and on it it showed that she,

first snack, she had two dates and

everything else looked pretty clean on

that day, but those two dates really

stuck out... especially considering that

she was on the higher end of

her carb max for that day, counting

everything else - she didn't count the

dates - and yet wasn't in ketosis the next

morning when she checked and was really

kind of wondering what happened with

that. Well, I know from firsthand

experience, I did not lose a pound on

paleo. I felt good. I mean healthier.

I felt like I was definitely giving it

the old college try and I was

getting some results, I think,

maybe it was in my head. But I really

wasn't seeing much and I was really

staying true to some of the paleo

treats. I was relying heavily on quinoa. I

was eating a lot of that. Paleo

diet is stuff that keto is not friendly

with because it causes blood sugar spikes

because it's sugar. In any kind of form, it

is still sugar in the body. Those of

you out there that are looking at some

of those things and going, "Well, I

can have date-sweetened this or

that." Let me tell you, dates may be the

undoing of you all. I hate

to really put the wrap on dates but

they kind of deserve it because they're

small and they really look like

they shouldn't hurt you and they should

be no big deal but each date has five

grams of carbs, 4.5 grams of sugar, and

that's a lot for one little date. Because

when you're eating things like RX Bars,

perfect example, they have three

dates in those little RX Bars, so you're

getting 15 grams of carbs and almost 15

grams of sugar in one little RX bar and

you might go, "Well, it's got just

nuts and three dates and it's got some

blueberries or maybe a little bit of

peanut butter... shouldn't be a big deal." It

kind of is, especially if you're trying

to go really low-carb and trying to stay

in that keto lane, those dates will sneak

up on you and they'll knock you out of

ketosis and you won't even know what

happened. It'll come out of nowhere and

you'll be like, "What?! I was doing so good!"

I've been there, I totally get it. Quinoa,

same thing.

There's some really good

substitutes for sweeteners. I love stevia

but I'm very careful about what

brand I use. And I find food

is sweeter when you eliminate a lot of

the sweet other things... the

artificial sweeteners, whether it's sugar in any

form, if you eliminate that stuff from

your diet, things naturally become sweeter

through your cooking. So if you're

cooking a dessert-like

substance and you're using a little bit

of stevia it will be sweet, I promise

you. Stay away from the dates. Just put

them down, give them to your friend that

maybe you don't like too much... let her

eat the dates. Hi, Tiffany

from Hawaii! I miss you! So that's the

good thing when people come into this

keto world, they're coming in {blip} ...

{Oi. Hold on, the internet pops back in}

and sugars will really kind of sneak up

on you and fruit of any form. So I know

that that watermelon is looking really

good right now at least around here and

I buy it for the kids and they just love

it. It's one of those things that I used

to love and I just know that it's not

something I love anymore because I know

it's got a lot of sugar in it and I know

one little piece of watermelon will mess

my whole day up and nobody got time for

that! Fruits, dates, quinoa... instead

of quinoa, hemp hearts - great option and

especially if you soak them. Chia and

flax really great options and

they will fill you up with the alpha

lipoic acid and the flax, which is

something that we all need, the ALAs,

which is really good for triglycerides,

cholesterol all that good stuff. The

hemp hearts, same thing... you've got fiber in

flax, chia, and hemp hearts, which you need

without having to rely on the quinoa or

the pastas. If you're looking for

substitutes for rice, cauliflower. I know

a lot of you are going to go, "Cauliflower

isn't rice." But you need to try mine, I'm

telling you. After time of getting rid of

some of the other things in your diet

these things are really good substitutes

and are perfectly acceptable especially

for family members like my teen boys

they love the cauliflower rice whether

it's stir fried or roasted or lime

cilantro I mean like you can do it a

hundred different ways and basically

you're just looking for something to add

to the food that you already have.

Spaghetti squash - perfect. I'm sharing

with you what I feed my own family. We're

talking about teenage boys that need a

lot of food. I will make little bits

of quinoa pasta or white rice, organic,

usually basmati or jasmine, and I'll make

that in anticipation that they're going

to want more but what they usually do is

they fill up on the other stuff, putting

a little bit of maybe the pasta or the

rice in in their main dish and that's it.

And it's amazing to me to see that these

boys are able to fill up and that they

like it. That they're like, "Wow, yeah

it doesn't taste too different." And

that's because I've been doing it now

for three years so they're kind of

just used to it but

that's all of us. Making this

lifestyle change, you're not going to

find the perfect swap {blip}...

[You have to give up some] things for other things - like health or

weight loss and be okay with that.

Just know that you might not have pasta

again or it might be a really long time

before you actually have real pasta or

rice again and, when you do, you'll

probably maybe appreciate it a little bit more.

[But then you'll notice what it] does to your body and then go

running back to that cauliflower rice

that you're kind of like walking away

from right now. I promise you, you will

love it! Just give it time, try it

different ways, try the spaghetti squash

a couple different ways, try zoodles! I love

zoodles, zucchini noodles that are

spiralized. You can spiralize pretty

much anything these days and there's so

many great ways to incorporate

vegetables in your diet, which you should

be doing regardless of what you're

eating whether it's keto, paleo, whatever

it may be... if you're looking at veggies

to really fulfill you and fill you up

there's many ways to get them into your

diet including spiralizing or frying up

in the stir-fry or baking or roasting

in any different way. I promise you, you

will find something that will float your

boat. Cauliflower is one of

those things that is easy to make taste

like anything that you want it to. My

cauliflower tots, amazing. My boys dip

them in ketchup so they really

can't tell what's what with

them. If you're

paleo right now, the leap is easy into

keto if you're really looking for that

weight-loss or those health benefits to

maybe lower blood sugar levels. Maybe

you're pre-diabetic and that's why you

went to paleo in the first place. Your

blood sugar levels are probably going to

stay high and I hate to say that but

eliminating those sugars, eliminating the

fruits, eliminating things that have

dates in them, or honey or coconut sugar

or even agave. Get rid of all that. Go

keto and you'll see that your blood

sugar levels are going to drop.

It's kind of like magic. I can't even

tell you. Firsthand

experience, being pre-diabetic for years

before coming to this lifestyle, even

through paleo eating, and nothing changed

it until

I went keto. So for all of you out there

that may be struggling with health

issues or weight issues or just looking

to make some healthier choices, I hope

this was informative. Next week, I've got

even more good stuff to share, so come

back 3PM EST. Until

then - mwah! - take care!

What Only True Star Wars Fans Know About Boba Fett - Duration: 10:17.

When it comes to popularity versus screen-time, there may be no bigger winner than Boba Fett.

For decades, fans have been fervently buying action figures, comics, and novels featuring

the world's favorite bounty hunter.

Sorry, Dog.

People love Fett, even though he has about four lines of dialogue in the entire Original

Trilogy before being knocked into a giant pit by a blind guy.

Because of his popularity and his limited screentime, it would be easy to think that

Boba Fett doesn't have any hidden secrets.

However, the truth is that there's still plenty you probably don't know about this mysterious

character from a galaxy far, far away…

His first real appearance

Most people know that Boba Fett first appeared on the big screen in The Empire Strikes Back...

no matter what George Lucas did to the special edition of A New Hope later on.

The real savvy fan may even be able to tell you Fett's first appearance on any screen

was during 1978's Star Wars Holiday Special.

"Maybe I can help you.

I am Boba Fett."

But neither of those are actually the first time the public got to see Boba Fett.

His first public appearance was a few weeks earlier, on September 24, 1978, at the San

Anselmo County Fair.

San Anselmo was the home of Lucasfilm at the time and George Lucas thought that taking

part in the local parade was a great idea.

While Fett didn't engage in any pie eating contests or hog calling, assistant film editor

Duwayne Dunham donned the sweaty costume and signed autographs — even though no one actually

knew who Boba Fett was yet.

All white

Even before Boba Fett took his unusual place in a local parade and a terrible holiday special,

he'd been going through some changes.

Concept artist Ralph McQuarrie had a ton of different designs for Boba that he was testing

out, ultimately settling on the Mandalorian armor fans know and love today.

The original suit was completely fabricated and screen-tested… except it was completely

Stormtrooper-white.

Sure, he still had a cool jetpack and sinister visor, but he was basically a bleached-out

version of the green-and-red guy of today.

Why?

Those original armor designs were originally planned to be old Stormtrooper armor from

an old regiment, which would have made him look like a medieval knight marching into

war with modern soldiers.

But, y'know, in space.

As plans for the film shifted and lore began to grow, the armor became Mandalorian, Fett

took a smaller role, and he finally got some much-needed color.

The big bad

According to an interview with Lucasfilm's first fan relations officer, Chris Miller,

Fett was originally going to play a much larger role in the trilogy, which is why he had such

a prominent role in the Holiday Special.

At one point, he was even going to eclipse Darth Vader as the trilogy's biggest bad guy.

"NOOOOOOOO!"

As George Lucas became increasingly bored with space, he rewrote Star Wars from a dozen

films down to three, compacted his entire second trilogy concept into Return of the

Jedi, and threw Fett into a belching desert cloaca.

Taking action

When Star Wars has an action figure controversy — and they happen surprisingly often — it

usually revolves around Leia's gold bikini or too few Rey figures on the shelves.

But the original Star Wars action figure controversy stemmed from none other than Boba Fett.

"I'm the best bounty hunter in the whole galaxy!"

"That's why you got the job."

Let's recap: Fett's first appearance was at a county fair.

His second appearance was in the Holiday Special.

His third appearance, prior to the May 1980 release of Empire Strikes Back, was on the

back of action figure packaging as a mail-away figure, when he still didn't have a backstory.

Just one problem: the Fett figure was portrayed with a rocket-firing backpack.

Star Wars fans, who were basically the original turbonerds, were pretty upset at not receiving

the action-packed Fett they were promised.

Kenner had produced some prototypes of the full figure, which have since become the Holy

Grail of Star Wars collectibles, but they were never released to the public due to safety

concerns after a child choked on a missile from a Battlestar Galactica toy.

Hasbro bought Kenner in 2010, and finally made things right when they released an actual

rocket-firing Boba Fett as a mail-away in their Vintage Collection.

Finally, adult nerds everywhere got their fondest wish: death by action figure.

If they can just figure it out without killing each other.

"Just push.

Push the button.

Push."

"I'm pushing.

Good God."

Fett's many origins

Attack of the Clones made it absolutely clear that Boba Fett is the unaltered clone of legendary

bounty hunter Jango Fett, the prototype for all of the galaxy's Clone Troopers.

Unlike his helmeted clone-bros, Boba is raised personally by Jango, and eventually takes

his own place in the galaxy as a bounty hunter.

But even before Attack of the Clones, the Star Wars Expanded Universe had developed

a rich backstory for just about every weirdo in every scene of Star Wars, no matter how

irrelevant.

Even Ice Cream Maker Guy.

Fun fact: his name is Willrow Hood, he's a Rebel hero, he has his own action figure,

he has a legion of fans, and in terms of screen time versus fan fervor, he just might beat

out Boba Fett.

Anyway, according to Tales of the Bounty Hunters, a novel released in 1996, Boba Fett's real

name was Jaster-Mereel, and he's essentially an ex-cop from the world known as Concord

Dawn who's exiled from the planet for killing his corrupt superior.

Eventually, he's taken in by the Mandalorians and becomes Boba Fett.

After Attack of the Clones, however, Jaster was rewritten to be a completely separate

character from Fett.

In the comic series Jango Fett: Open Seasons, Jaster-Mereel was the leader of Mandalore,

and the guy who took a young Jango Fett under his wing after Jango's parents were murdered.

Occasionally, though, both Boba and Jango would use Jaster's name as their own, kinda

like an intergalactic Rusty Shackleford.

He's survived a fight with Vader

The Original Trilogy implies that Boba Fett and Darth Vader have a pretty okay relationship,

but readers of Star Wars comics over the years have witnessed the rather unforgettable sight

of Vader and Fett trying to all-out murder each other.

Sure, they're mostly non-canonical now, but that doesn't mean it's not fun to see.

First, there's the fight in Star Wars Tales #11 where Fett actually holds his own against

Vader in a lightsaber battle in a cantina.

Vader and Fett faced off once again in Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire #4, where the stakes

were a bit higher.

In truly bizarre comics fashion, the two fight over the severed-but-still-talkative head

of a fortune-telling alien queen.

Boba Fett is hired to retrieve the head in a box, but Vader wants it as a tool for his

eventual overthrow of Emperor Palpatine.

The two come to blows, with Vader deflecting blaster bolts and cutting Fett's getaway speeder

in half, until he stops screwing around and Force chokes Fett... who kicks the head off

a cliff, and jetpacks to safety while Vader uses the Force to retrieve it.

The two only ended up having a pleasant work relationship later on because the decapitated

queen-head says they will, and Vader is pretty superstitious… but they probably also bonded

over how difficult it is to go to the bathroom while wearing armor.

Eight is enough

You'd think that Darth Vader would have taken the record for the most actors portraying

the same character on the big screen, between actors, last-second stand-ins, and voice actors,

not to mention stuntmen.

But Boba Fett really wins that award since, for the most part, whoever fit into the armor

got to play him.

Jeremy Bulloch played Fett through most of the character's appearances in the Original

Trilogy, with the exception of two days, when he missed filming and the actor who played

the Rebel pilot Dak, John Morton, filled in.

Throughout the Original Trilogy, Jason Wingreen provided his voice.

For the special editions, he was dubbed by Temuera Morrison, the actor who played Jango

Fett.

And when George Lucas needed more Fett footage for his Special Editions, he decided to just

use three different Industrial Light and Magic employees who happened to fit into the outfit.

Finally, for the prequels, young Boba was played by Daniel Logan, who also provided

the voice for Boba Fett in the Clone Wars cartoon.

And we're not even counting video games, radio dramas, or Star Tours.

King of the Mandalorians

Though it's been wiped out by Star Wars' massive continuity overhaul, Boba Fett was once the

leader of his entire planet of Mandalore, just like his father was before him.

What's the name of the leader of all of Mandalore, the fifth planet in the Mandalore system?

Quite simply, "Mandalore."

That word probably works for everything — it's like 'aloha,' 'shalom,' 'smurf,' or 'squanch.'

"Squanchy party bro!"

"Ah, Squanchy!"

"Is there a good place for me to SQUANCH around here?"

"Squanchy you can squanch wherever you want, man!"

The actual history of the Mandalorians seems to shift around a lot, but in the 2008 Star

Wars novel Legacy of the Force: Revelation, Fett's reluctant rise to power is spelled

out clearly.

He's hired to kill the existing Mandalore leader, Fenn Shysa, who ends up saving Fett's

life, but Shysa is critically injured in the process.

As a result, Fett is bound to honor his last request: that Fett himself become the new

Mandalore...of Mandalore.

As such, Fett had the Mandalorians fight back against the alien Yuuzhan Vong invaders in

the novella Boba Fett: A Practical Man, and helped restore Mandalore after the war.

Make Mandalore great again, right?

Fett's family

Another thing lost to Disney's revised continuity was Fett's family, which he started sixteen

years before A New Hope.

It's weird to think of Fett as a doting dad, but he and his bounty hunter wife, Sintas

Vel, settled down and had a daughter named Ailyn when Fett was only nineteen.

Unfortunately for everyone, Sintas is assaulted by Boba's boss, who Boba then kills, sending

him spiralling into exile and divorce.

Sintas ends up frozen in carbonite for four decades, and their daughter goes on a misguided

quest to kill Boba Fett herself.

Not only that, but Ailyn trains her own daughter, Mirta, to follow in her footsteps.

And you thought your family was messed up.

All of that, and Boba Fett still found time to train the Expanded Universe daughter of

Han and Leia: Jaina Solo.

With the help of Fett and his granddaughter Mirta Gev, Jaina is able to kill her evil

brother Jacen and restore peace to the galaxy.

So, no matter what reality you're following, Han and Leia have one really messed up, evil

kid.

Those Skywalkers are bad news.

The Real Reason Eva Never Joins Ryan On The Red Carpet - Duration: 4:45.

When 2017's awards season rolled around and La La Land was in the spotlight, there was

a spotlight somewhere else, too.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been one of Hollywood's hottest couples since 2012,

but they are still making Hollywood wait to see them together on the red carpet.

When Gosling made his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, he did give the

world a glimpse into their private life with a shout out to Mendes.

"My lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and uh. trying to help her

brother fight his battle with cancer."

But that only fueled the fire of curiosity when it came to just why the stylish actress

continuously gives red carpets a miss when her beau's around.

Here are some thoughts about why Eva and Ryan are never seen gracing the same place these days.

Private places

While it can't be easy to spend so much time in such a bright spotlight, there was something

that seemed to happen when Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes hooked up in 2012.

There's plenty of appearances, photos, and even red carpet appearances that they both

did prior to the start of their relationship and even a bit at the beginning.

They even starred together in a hilarious holiday episode of "Drunk History."

They were on the red carpet together for The Place Beyond the Pines, the film they met

on and promoted together.

After that, the magazine notes they sort of retreated from public life as much as possible

— at least while on each others' arms.

Mendes hardly even acknowledges her beau on social media, and she's even stopped interviews

where she's been asked about him.

"So you just call him by the last name, you don't call him Ryan, just by his last name.

If you see him ever."

"Anyway"

When it comes to his turn in front of the media, he's said that she doesn't like him

talking about her or their relationship, either.

With the arrival of their daughters, she's even more strict about protecting their privacy.

During her pregnancies, she said she was absolutely staying out of the public eye — and off

the red carpet — because becoming a parent made her even more wary of privacy issues.

In 2014, she told The Violet Files, "Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be

very difficult for Esmeralda...

So Ryan and I decided early on to give her as much privacy as we could.

And my pregnancy was the first opportunity to give her that."

Proper nouns

Given how private Mendes and Gosling clearly want to keep their relationship, it's really

no wonder the bright lights and extreme close-ups that come with the red carpet walk would be

something they want to avoid.

Strangely, he seems to avoid something else, too: saying her name.

Gosling's acceptance speech for his La La Land awards was a bit odd.

Rather than thanking her by name, he referred to her as "sweetheart" and "my lady."

"Sweetheart thank you.

To my daughters Amada and Esmeralda, I love you."

That's not the only time he's done that but he did mention her by name in a 2015 interview

with Hello Magazine when he said that the only quality he's looking for in a woman is

"that she's Eva Mendes."

So, we're definitely getting some strange mixed signals on that front lately.

Going solo

Ryan Gosling stirred up no small amount of gossip when he showed up to the 2017 Oscars

with a blonde woman who was clearly not Eva Mendes on his arm.

While her identity was quickly revealed to be none other than his sister, it turns out

he isn't the only one walking his red carpets alone.

In March of 2017, Mendes made her own red carpet appearance at the opening of a New

York & Company store in Miami.

Mendes has turned her attention more toward fashion and beauty instead of acting, and

as a designer for the company, she was on hand to help open the doors to the new store.

So, clearly, neither of them are completely allergic to the red carpet.

They just prefer to not walk it together.

Still supportive

Mendes might not be seen on the red carpet with her other half, but she's still occasionally

stepping out to join him at various events.

They just seem to want to keep it a personal, behind-the-scenes sort of thing instead posing

for the traditional photo line as a pair.

Gosling was walking the red carpet alone at the South by Southwest film festival in March

2017, where his film Song to Song was premiering.

While there are no photos of the pair together, she did post a picture of the Paramount on

her Instagram, confirming that she was there and perhaps took a less direct route into

the theater.

So, while she may not want to be front and center on the red carpet during his events,

she's certainly lending her support in other ways and at other times.

Even it does spark the occasional break up rumor.

Prioritizing the pitter patter

When Shape magazine talked to Mendes about everything from her workout schedule to what

she starts her mornings with, they also got a rare comment about her personal life.

At the time, Gosling was busy accepting awards for La La Land, and questions about Mendes's

role were flying.

According to what she told them, though, her biggest reason for giving the red carpet a

miss is simply that she'd choose home over Hollywood any day.

She said, "What people don't know about me is that I love being home.

Instead of hitting the red carpet, I'd rather be with our girls."

"It's heaven.

It's like walking through a field of flowers everyday."

"Well congratulations."

"I live with angels."

For now, everyone's left to speculate on just when they'll be appearing in public together

at long last.

Given the lengths to which they seem to have gone to in order to keep their relationship

on the down-low, we shouldn't hold our breath.

"Oh look at me, I'm Ryan Gosling.

I have perfect bone structure and kind eyes.

Go f*** yourself Ryan Gosling."

The Hidden Meaning Behind Popular Baby Names - Duration: 8:12.

A lot goes into picking a baby's name.

After all, this is going to be something your kiddo is gonna be stuck with for the rest

of their life — or at least until they can convince the courts to let 'em change it.

"Wait, you..

You changed your name to..

McLovin?"

"Yea."

"McLovin?"

After finding out that the stork's en route, suddenly questions of what to call the baby

pop up.

And that spirals into debates about whether to go with an old family favorite and risk

ticking another relative off by omission or choosing something you both just like right

now — and find it's too obscure to stand the test of time.

"Where is Blakay at?"

"No Blakay here today?

Yes sir."

"My name is Blake."

So, a lot of people tend to opt for names that are a little more common and current

to avoid these issues.

But did you know that even some of the most popular names have their own hidden meanings

to consider?

"Well Madison's not a name."

Here are some facts that you might not know about names you hear around town all the time.

Emma

Historically, Emma is derived from the German "ermen" which means "whole" or "universal."

The name came to England by way of Emma of Normandy, wife of King Ethelred II.

King Ethelred the Unready made have let the Danish to invade and destroy much of England,

but at least he gave the English speaking world one of its most popular names.

Since 980 A.D., the name has stuck around.

It gained popularity again in the 1700s, possibly because of the poem "Henry and Emma" by Matthew

Prior.

Once Jane Austen wrote Emma, the name grew even more common and beloved.

Over the last 100 years, Emma has almost always been in the top 90 names, with 2017 seeing

the name spike to the number one spot for baby girls.

"It's Emma

Oh Ahhhh.. Emma"

"See, I don't want it."

But with just a few letters swapped out, it's a whole different story …

Emily

For British literature fans, the name Emily might conjure up memories of Wuthering Heights

author Emily Bronte or the poet Emily Dickinson.

But Friends fans might think of a different, albeit more accurate, personality association.

"We all hate Emily!"

Believe it or not, Emily actually does have a slightly sinister meaning.

It's the feminine version of Aemilius or Emil which means "rival."

Therefore, any Emily is automatically your enemy.

Though the masculine form of Emily isn't very popular in America, Emily is the 14th most

popular girl's name.

Since at least 1911, the name has never fallen below number 300 on the hottest name charts.

Perhaps the constant rivalry of the name is what keeps it in fighting shape to stay at

the top.

But it's obviously very different than Emma, even though some celebs — like Emma Stone,

born Emily Stone — do use the names interchangeably.

"I just…

I just"

"I see the resemblance."

"It's uncanny."

"Uncanny."

"It really is."

Liam

An already popular Irish name, Liam didn't arrive in America until the late 1960s.

Since then, the usage has slowly increased, and the 1990s saw a burst of popularity — right

around the time Liam Neeson became a household name.

That's entirely speculation regarding the Liam boom, of course — but it had to have

been at least a slight factor, right?

So what does Liam even mean?

Most of us just think of it as being Irish-sounding and that's it.

Well, that's partially right since it's the Irish short form of William.

Derived from the German "Willahelm," it breaks down to two parts: "Wil" meaning will or desire,

and "helm" meaning helmet, or protection.

So, desire helmet?

Usually the meaning is listed as the less literal translation of "strong mind and protection."

The name William became common in England after William the Conqueror in 1066, remaining

popular ever since.

Nowadays, the U.S. prefers Liam over William.

It was the fourth most popular boy's name in 2016 and has been in the top five for the

last four years.

Maybe there's a handsome Hemsworth to thank for the recent resurgence?

Olivia

You may have thought made-up celebrity names started with the likes of Apple Martin and

Blue Ivy Carter.

Yet, it was Shakespeare who really started the trend.

The third most popular name of 2016 was Olivia, a name Shakespeare invented for the lead character

in his play Twelfth Night.

He may have based his name creation on "Oliver" which was either derived from the German "Alfher"

or the Old Norse name that became "Olaf."

Though the Germanic or Norse roots could have influenced Shakespeare, it's more likely that

he used a simpler source.

The latin word "oliva" is pretty close to "Olivia."

What does "oliva" mean?

Olive.

Yep, pretty simple!

We won't ever know if the Bard named his heroine after Norse Kings, old German, or a garnish

plunked in his martini, but Olivia would be a great choice for any Shakespeare fan.

Michael

This may be one of the most enduringly popular boy names in history, but lately, it's losing

a little steam.

Considering we've heard this name a million times and some of the biggest sports stars

in history are named Michael, people don't think much about its meaning so much as who

else has had the name.

But its origin stems all the back to the Bible, when Michael led the angels in their fight

against Lucifer.

Having defeated the fallen angel, he's now regarded as the Patron Saint of Soldiers.

It's understandable why the noble name has remained a go-to for so long.

The actual definition of Michael comes from the Hebrew word for "who is like God?"

The question mark is part of the meaning because Michael is meant to be a rhetorical question,

which means it's not meant to be answered.

Imagine saying "who is like God?"

every time you see a Michael.

Suddenly all those gold medals make sense.

Aiden

The second most popular boy's name of 2016, Aiden has spurred on quite a craze.

The name wasn't terribly popular in America till it shot up the ranks in 1995.

For what it's worth, that's a year after Aidan Quinn appeared in Legends of the Fall, so

maybe there's some relation.

Aiden is most notable for starting the long list of -ayden names.

Kayden, Hayden, Jayden, Brayden, and Zayden are all just made-up mash-ups of Aiden.

So, where does Aiden itself come from?

Well, we have to trace back through quite a few names before we get to the real meaning.

First, it's based on the Irish name Aidan, which is the English speaking version of Aodhán.

That name is just a diminutive version of Aodh or Aed, who was the Celtic god of the

sun, and whose name can also be translated to "fire."

In Gaelic myth, Aed was one of the Children of Lir, a popular folktale that Irish children

still learn today.

The English gave themselves a translation of this fiery god, a name.

Aed became Hugh.

Somehow, Hugh doesn't elicit the same sense of "fire," but Aiden and Hugh are brothers

from the same cultural mother.

Aubrey

Like Ashley, Aubrey actually started out as primarily a boys name in the Middle Ages,

but shifted over to girls in the 1970s.

The song "Aubrey" by Bread in 1972 helped make the girl version popular.

Still, the origin of the name retains its masculine roots.

It's a Norman French form of the German name Alberich, which contains the German root words

"elf" and "power."

Though it might be fun for a celebrity to call their kid "Elf Power," Aubrey's meaning

is usually recognized as "King of the Elves."

Currently, the masculine Aubrey is pretty rare, but the feminine version was the 25th

most popular name in 2016.

Maybe the deadpan wit of Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza has a little something to

do with that.

What's in a name?

Though many of America's favorite names have been around for centuries, we rarely take

their root meanings into account.

A slightly unfavorable meaning shouldn't sway you from your top choice.

But if you'd rather your little prince or princess not be dubbed a "rival," or "king

of the elves," now you know the names to scratch off the list!

"What do I have to do?!"

"He has to give me a new name!"

Good luck with that...
