Hello guys, I want to welcome you to
my first ever episode of Heli Faq
I am sorry that it took my some time to do the first episode
in this category
but I am shure you noticed it here on YT and on FB
I am really travelling a lot at the moment
But I want to use this first episode to talk with you
about a
topic which is very important to me
Today we are talking about motivation
Not about that kind of motivation
"How do I start, how do I stay focues, how do I train"
No that won´t be the topic
This will be a topic for other videos
Today its more about something which
I experienced myself and what I
see very often with other people
its about people are
talking themselves down
and say:
"I will meet with some other heli guys OR I will go to a Funfly"
"But I will not fly there because all these guys are flying better than me"
"and it will be so boring for them if they have to watch me fly"
Unfortunately
I hear and see that again and again
for example that happened in our local flight group in Cologne
we are a small group and flying on a field
we also have an Whatsapp group
and sometimes it happens that someone brings somebody new to the group
someone who recently started or who is also flying
then this new person asks where we fly and if he can join
so they come one afternoon to our field when we meet
the new guy brings his heli (or somethimes he even leaves it in the car)
then he sais: "I just want to watch a bit" "Ok" ... and then he watches
And as soon as you ask: "So what do you fly? Ah this TRex 450?"
"Well go for it! Fly!"
Then the guy gets like: "Mmmmhhhh"
"Nooo...I prefer not to..."
"I am way lower than your flying level... I am too bad"
"It would be boring for you"
"Because all I can do is tail hovering"
And also if you tell him:
"That doesnt matter?! Now go out! FLY!"
"This is what you came for???!!"
"Aaaah no no no, its okay, let´s leave it like that!"
On the other hand I´ve seen situations where
people don´t even bring their helis with them
I recently had this, where someone contacted me in FB and asked if I would be on a certain event
because he would like to see me fly in person
and he would be travelling about 300/400km just for this Funfly
But he said he will leave the heli at home because
he is not "as good as we are"
I am really getting sad when I hear this kind of stuff
This is a hobby which we all share?!
What is meant to give us pleasure and fun
It should be relaxing.
And if I just think about
everday life, family, job
sometimes also social contacts... this all can be very stressing
too much stress day in day out
We all search for a hobby that helps us to relax
to have something that gives us fun and joy
where you can put your energy and your focus in, where you meet
other people who are the same kind of crazy about helicopters as yourself
this is what our hobby is about. And NOT
about judging yourself, comparing you to others and to say
"He is better, he is worse, omg I have to practice
in order not to get overrounded by that guy..."
This is NOT what the hobby is about!
Nobody will talk or laugh about your flying
Nobody will judge you for what you do
or for your current level
Guzys, just think...
EVERYBODY... doesnt matter if its me
(and I am really not a super-high pro pilot)
or a Kyle Dahl, a Kyle Stacy,
Antonio Gomez, Hiroki Ito
These are all people who back then started with heli flying
Just think back in time
They all had a built heli standing in front of them on the table and thinking:
"Hmm....how do i setup this thing?"
"I hope I will not crash it duing my first flight"
EVERYBODY started like this
everybody put a training cross under his heli and did his first frog jumps
everybody
had a pulse of 200 when he
was hovering his first complete battery without landing
everybody of us screamed "wuhuu" when he
did his first circle or his first curve
I had such shaky knees when I was doing my
first looping and nearly crashed the heli
guys, EVERYONE has started at zero
and besides of that is "good" a flexible word
I mean "I am not as good" or "He is better than me"
All this is relative. For the absolute beginner
who is doing his first jumps, somebody is "good" who is
able to fly circles and do nose in hovering
For me somebody is "good" who
is flying an awesome and stunning music competition flight
and can do a piro tic toc
For a top pilot like Kyle Dahl..
I don´t know who is "good" in his opinion
but I am shure also he will have pilots where he watches and sais "Wow"
"That guy is a machine, I would love to do what he does"
Isn´t this the nice aspect of our hobby?
We are never ever done with learning and improving!
There is always one more level you can add
and for that reason DONT judge youself and compare yourself with other people
This is NOT what our hobby stands for!
Its OK to look at it from an inspiring perspective
Do it like me: I go to a Funfly
I look at flights
and I will not stand there, being depressed and saying
"Oh good they have all such an high level.."
"You will never reach that"
Yes MAYBE I will never reach that, but I am not putting myself down because of that!
I for example I looove music flights
and I stand there looking at a flight and thinking: "Boah"
"To fly these manouvers to this song.. thats an awesome idea"
"I would have never concidered that, I have to write that down immediately"
"Maybe I can use that for my flights someday?!"
To get inspired by others...that is important! But do net put yourself down!
Just because you think your flying could be boring for others
I tell you.. if I go to a 3D championship
lets say Global 3D or HeliMasters competition
Its awesome to see this high level of flying
this perfect precision and tecnique
but to be honest.. after the 5th freeystle
flight.. it gets also boring for me
so if YOU say that you dont wanna fly because you are afraid that it can be boring for others
because you are only tail in hovering
honestly for me this is sometimes more interesting than
watching the
100st Freestyle
3D Hack & Smack flight on a competition
so you see... this excuse is completely BS
And I will tell you now a real story out of my life
just so you believe me a bit more
As you know I started my career with Thunder Tiger
I was Team pilot there pretty
early in my 2nd year
it doesnt mean that I got all the stuff for free
TT didnt say "Here you have a Raptor E550 for free, go fly it and crash it"
"We will giuve you the spare parts for free"
No I didnt get anything for free,
in fact I paid for my first Raptor over two years
monthly fees,
so I knew if I crash I am done
just that you know that
the problem ius that people think "Team pilot -> gets everything for free"
Unfortunately not...
Well with the big heli I began to make some progress
and I reached a point where I was able to
do quick forward flight, a loop, a roll
a turn and I think inverted hovering
but waaaay up there
so this was my level
so due to my presence on facebook and in forums
people and organizers saw me and invited me to events
of couse also because I am a woman and women are very rare in this hobby
I am aware of this ;)
So I still remember one of my first international events
where I was invited to visit a UK funfly
so me and Timo where invited to go there and fly
they were happy that we managed to travel there
I was super excited and happy on the one hand but also a bit unshure on the other
So we flew off to the UK. I was also printed on the event flyer
saying "International invited pilot"
"Simone Zunterer / Team Thunder Tiger"
That was when I was thinking "Ufff"
"Okaaay you are named on it so visitors will think you are a super high class famous pilot"
I arrived on the Funfly
And there were sooo many good and high level pilots
the level in the UK is pretty high
I see it every year at Helifest
the level is brutal
so there were tons of good pilots
one doing a better
and more fantastic 3D smack flight than the other
of course there were some beginners
but most of the pilots were waaay better than me
so my name wasnt only mentioned on the flyer
but also
the anchorman mentioned me
and they did a demo flight especially
for me in the time schedule
and I thought...
"OMG they also announce you like a super fantastic pilot"
"Team Thunder Tiger, invited pilot"
"coming extra from Germany"
I was so desperate thinking "What shall I show the people?"
"It would be better if the spectators look at the not-invited pilots"
"because they fly 30times better than me"
So I went out there and flew what I was able to do...
after the flight I dissapeared and hid behind the next building and cried
I was really depressed and done.. not lying
it really was like that
lol, you can ask Timo, because this poor guy
had to comfort me all the time
I really put myself down and also talked myself down
because I told myself: "What are you doing here?"
"You are soo stupid"
"You are destroying the bit of image that you have with this when people will see how bad you fly"
I think in the first 5 years
of my heli career
I was talking myself down
I was all the time depressed and thought I wouldnt be good enough
and only in the last 2 or 3 years
I was able to develop this mindset of
F*** IT
Just forget about it!
If you want to go to this Funfly you go there just like every other pilot
you go out there with your machine
you fly what you can do and what you feel good with
you will have fun and leave the flightline with a smile
and thats it! I am not any longer judging myself!
I still look at other pilots and get inspired
I film flights of other people and watch them at home
analyse them and say "wow this transition is cool!"
"This manouver would fit into your "flight portfolio"
This is what I do
But I don´t compare myself to others
So I hope that YOU dont do that
Dont stress yourself with that, you have enough stress in your life
your hobby is meant to relax yourself
The overall goal is:
You found something where you put your free time and your heart into
where you can go out and meet
other people with the same hobby, talk with them
you´ll laugh, you will have tecnical talks
you will fly what you can do, doesnt matter
if its 10min low rpm tail hovering
or 2:30min hardcore smack
you do what you feel good with... you drive home...
and you will have a smile on your face :)
Then you will know that you do the right thing
This hobby is meant to be fun!
I cannot emphazise it often enough
how important that is for me
I have to remind myself also sometimes
not for heliflying but I do fitness since one year
and I also have some idols and goals on Instagram
Facebook and co where I look at photos and videos and think
"This is what you want to reach someday..."
" This muscle definition or this physique the girl has"
This is a situation where I have to force myself not to say
"You will never achieve this"
No! I take it as an inspiration
and it makes me say "Now lets do it!"
"Now I really have licked blood, now I will push myself even harder!"
"I admire this and I want to achieve it for myself"
And the more motivation you have the more fun it will be
Just between you and me: The more motivation you have
the quicker you will learn stuff
in comparison if you put yourself under pressure
and want to make yourself learn a manouver
because there is a Funfly upcoming
and you thinki "I have to have the level XY for that". This is what I suffered most years for Rotor Live
I left all this behind and since then I go there and I fly 10x more relaxed
So I am rambling way too much
