engineer
yes
not bad
recently I've received
messages from people
asking me how I chose
my college major
or if I had any advice
for them, to help them choose
their studies
so instead of replying
individually I've decided to do
a video about this
telling you my experience
and my opinion
right now when i'm filming
in Spain
people are doing selectividad
exams
or pau or evau
however it's called
the thing is, these are the exams
that allow you to go to university
i hope you smash them
and that your grades will be good
enough to study whatever
you want to study
and this is what i want to talk about
university degrees
there's people who know 100%
before uni
what they want to study
because they've always wanted to do that
or because all his family
members are doctors
mom, dad, grandparents
siblings
however if you dont know
what to study and you have
several options
you should ask
your family and friends
people who know you well
they know your virtues your flaws
what you're good at
what you don't like
they'll give you some good piece of advice
what you have to find out is
what do you really like
what do you enjoy
because that's what you're gonna do
for the rest of your life
so many years, 50, 60
maybe not 60
it has to be something you like
if you end up studying something
you don't like and then your job is related to it
for example me
i wouldn't like to be a doctor
because when i see a lot of
blood i feel dizzy
so imagine that
i studied medicine
and i become a doctor
and i have to do an operation
and see loads of blood
i would not be a good doctor
i'd live sad
because i'd know i'm not doing my
job well
however, what we like
often is something very
very specific
not a very flexible degree
like ...fashion design
or marine biology
but that shouldn't stop us
from studying that
because if that's what we
really like, we're passionate about
that's what we enjoy
we shall go on
and in the future
if we really enjoy that
we'll find a job
for sure
this is what i asked
yesterday some people
in the streets
to know their point of view about this
what would you tell a student
to help him choose a college degree?
if he doesn't know well
identify what's
the thing you love the most in your life
and follow your intuition
in the end that's
what's gonna guide you
to find what you love the most
and have fun in life
even if it is not a very flexible or wide degree
if you really like it
you're gonna be happy doing it
and you'll achieve whatever you want
if you study a degree
you don't like
then you won't have a related job
or you won't finish your studies
my parents would not let me
study what i wanted
fashion design
i went for it
i payed all my fees
and then
they started to find out
that i really loved that
what i was good at
and i thnk
if you really
want to do that
go for it
in my case
I'm finishing engineering
industrial engineering
when i had to choose my degree
after selectividad
i did not really know what i wanted
to study
however, i knew what i did
not want to study
so i decided to make a list
of jobs
and now, facing the list
you cross the ones
you would not like to do
now that we have only a few options
it's way easier to think
and decide what we like the most
engineer
but if you have not still decided
you can think
what's the option
among the ones you had before
that closes the least amount of doors and go for it
nevertheless
there's nothing wrong with choosing a degree
to see if you like it
and in the 1st year you see that
you don't like it
just change
for example, in engineering
1st year we were so many people
but some people found out that they did not like it
or they were not good at it
they left
only half of the people finished the year
and i think it is interesting that
opposed to spain
in other european countries
it is very common to wait
one year before university
in this year you can
have a part time job
you can study a language
or two
this is all i have to tell you today
i hope this video has helped you
a little
to decide where to steer
or what you want to study in the future
if you're struggling with these doubts
i invite you to share them in the comments
let's see if all the people watching can help you
or if you are studying now
or you've already finished,
tell us your experience
in the comments
how you decided what to study
or how's your degree
maybe your experience
can help somebody
decide
also, as always
if you liked this video
give it a big thumbs up
subscribe down below
and i'll see you
next time
