How Ingenious Animals Have Engineered Air Conditioning - Duration: 5:09.

This episode is supported by Edx.

Termites, prairie dogs, and people are all great builders, each in their own way.

And we all share one crucial problem.

Put a bunch of us in a closed space, breathing Oxygen in and CO2 out… and it doesn't

end well.

Our tallest skyscrapers and deepest mines are almost completely cut off from outside

air.

To keep those inside from suffocating, human engineers use giant machines to bring in fresh

air and pump stale air out.

Termite mounds have the same problem.

The largest are more than 10 meters high.

On a human scale, that's like a skyscraper three and a half kilometers tall!

Only instead of condos and offices, it holds one big farm.

The termites collect wood, which grows fungus, that the termites eat.

All that fungus and the millions of termites that tend to it create a ton of CO2, which

would suffocate the colony *and* their crops if it builds up.

To keep the air fresh, the whole mound acts like a big lung.

During the day, the sun heats the outer chambers more rapidly than the core, moving air up

the outside and down the middle.

During the night, this current reverses as the outer chambers lose heat to the cool night

air.

The whole time, CO2 and oxygen are exchanged through tiny holes in the outer walls.

What's amazing is this is all constructed without a boss.

No central architect designing the structure.

Just instinct and cooperation lets termites build huge ventilation engines powered by

nothing but daily temperature cycles.

Leafcutter ants farm fungus on massive scales too.

One colony in South America covered nearly 50 square meters and was home to over 8 million

ants!

But unlike those towering termites, the ant labyrinth reached 8 meters underground.

So how do they ventilate their agricultural city?

Before we answer that, I want you to try something.

Take a piece of paper, hold it under your lips, and let the other end curl down.

If you blow only across the top of the paper, what do you think will happen?

The force of the air hitting the paper should push it down, right?

Well watch this.

Here's what's happening: Air is a fluid.

When I force air across the top of the paper, that stream pulls other air along, due to

viscosity, which is like the friction of fluids. This leaves an area of low pressure

behind, and the paper is pulled up to fill it.

This is called the Coandă effect.

What does that have to do with ants?

Check this out.

When a breeze flows over a hill, the air is deflected over the top.

This pulls air along too, just like when I blew over the paper,

drawing air out of the ant hill along the way.

The ants build lower entrances nearby, where air is drawn in to replace it, ventilating

the whole colony with a little breeze.

Prairie dogs get the same effect from their mounds.

Breezes over taller hills draw air through the connected tunnel system, keeping the whole

town breathing fresh.

There's even a tiny shrimp that uses this same system to keep fresh water flowing through

its burrows.

Persian and Egyptian architects have used similar structures to cool buildings for centuries,

but tiny animals beat us to that technology by millions of years

Nature is full of species that build their environment to suit them, countless expert

animal architects.

Sometimes, all you need to solve the most complex engineering problems is the awesome

power of evolution,

…and that's a breath of fresh air.

Stay curious.

Top 10 NEWS STORIES That Defined Generation X FOREVER - Duration: 10:05.

Top 10 News Stories That Defined Generation X Forever

10.

Ronald Reagan Nearly Shot To Death

On March 31st 1981, President Ronald Reagan was shot and seriously wounded by gunman John

Hinckley Jr.

Later on, we would learn that the assassination attempt was an attempt to impress actress

Jodie Foster, who has since come out as a lesbian.

Too bad Hinckley's gaydar was off that fateful day.

Generation X has grown to have very mixed feelings about the Reagan Presidency.

However, the impact of Reagan's policies cannot be debated.

It also cannot be debated that Reagan's shooting was the catalyst which brought about

many of the legislative changes with a Democratic Congress in the 1980's.

Had Reagan died, George Bush's Presidency would have started in 1981.

Had the assassination attempt never occurred, then Congress might have ignored Reagan altogether.

That was not exactly mentioned while teachers had us all huddled together in school discussing

what happened.

9.

The Challenger Explosion

On January 28th 1986, a lot was encapsulated for Generation X.

Nothing had been more built up as an event for schoolchildren than the launch of the

Space Shuttle Challenger.

A national search to send a civilian into space had culminated with Christa McAuliffe,

a schoolteacher, being selected.

She was supposed to actually conduct experiments from space that school children could watch.

Instead, schools wound up gathering children in auditoriums across the United States, and

subjecting them to unspeakable tragedy.

All the hope of a generation went belly-up in under two minutes.

It would become an all-too-common theme for a generation which would continually be promised

great things, only to see them turned into tragedy.

8.

"Black Monday"

There is a line in 1994's The Crow in which Brandon Lee says, "They are all dead.

They just don't know it yet."

Generation X did not immediately understand the message of October 19th, 1987.

As the years went on though, the message would become increasingly apparent: "You will

never be as successful as your parents … ever."

On that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 508 points.

This was actually a bigger drop than the crash which caused the Great Depression.

There was a quick recovery, but the damage had been done.

"Black Monday" led to the recession in the early 1990's.

About the time in which much of Generation X was going into college, the storm clouds

of a gloomy economic climate which would last the rest of their lives was forming.

The previous generation had taken everything, and as X'ers grew up, the previous generation's

needs and demands would only grow, turning Generation X into a bulwark to facilitate

the eventual success which will fall on Baby Boomers' grandkids, the Millennials, after

both previous generations are gone.

7.

David Koresh And The Branch Davidians

Like Voldemort was actually Thomas Riddle, David Koresh was born Vernon Wayne Howell.

Koresh would eventually become entrenched in the religious sect known as the Branch

Davidians.

Koresh's group established a compound near Waco, Texas.

A raid that started out as an attempt by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to

arrest Koresh for hoarding weapons turned into a standoff between the Davidians and

the United States Government.

The 51-day siege ended on April 19th, 1993, with agents from the FBI storming the compound.

A fire ensued, killing 76 people, including Koresh.

As a result, anti-government sentiment raised to dangerously high levels throughout the

new Clinton Administration.

Term such as "domestic terrorism" and "militia movement" got introduced into

American lexicons.

The result was that poor economic times mixed with conspiracy theory and violent sentiment,

creating a very real and very adverse effect on Generation X's psyche, as well as redefining

how people to this day view government.

If you want an example, just ask someone from the Tea Party Movement about "Waco," and

be prepared for a long lecture.

6.

Kurt Cobain's Suicide

On April 8th, 1994, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was found

dead in his home.

His death, the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sparked a firestorm of discussion

across the United States, much of which really marked how far apart Baby Boomers and Generation

X really were.

Amid Generation X's grief, Baby Boomers downplayed the news as irrelevant.

In many ways, Generation X was told that their own voice was irrelevant, and not as important

as their elders.

Andy Rooney, for example, went on 60 Minutes to make a point of talking about more important

people who had died that week.

Daring to compare Cobain to figures such as John Lennon was seen as blasphemy.

The message, whether intentional or not, came through to Generation X loud and clear: "You

don't matter.

Your opinions don't matter.

Your idols don't matter.

Shut up and quit bothering us."

It was a message that Generation X would seethe about for years afterward.

5.

The Oklahoma City Bombing

The date of April 19th, 1995 being two years after the Branch Davidian compound was not

coincidental.

Bomber Timothy McVeigh was obsessed with the events surrounding Waco, as well as an earlier

government standoff at Ruby Ridge, Idaho.

The bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City would ultimately claim nearly 200 lives,

as well as scar Generation X somewhat irrevocably.

Bomber Timothy McVeigh was a member of Generation X, having been born in 1968.

The dismissive attitude in which older generations had treated the opinions of X was now being

met with unimaginable violence.

Moreover, the Oklahoma City Bombing did nothing but fan the flames of the discussion which

had been started by the events in Waco.

McVeigh would be executed shortly before the events of September 11th, 2011, in which a

completely different type of terrorism would dominate the discussion on the news.

4.

The Dot Com Bubble Bursts

In the late 1990's, they called it the "new economy."

Money, and crazy amounts of it, seemed to be able to be made on the new-fangled internet.

Start-up companies abounded and were getting venture capital from investors.

The better news for Generation X is that they were being looked to in order to program,

drive, and profit from an economy where a store front was now a computer.

After all, tech-savvy young adults were the ones who truly understood the Internet.

Generation X was coming out of college at this point, and ready.

Hell, websites referred to as "dot com" companies were even advertising during the

Super Bowl.

By the year 2000 though, many of these companies ran out of money, and did not return a profit.

The entire industry seemed to self-destruct overnight.

Unfortunately, Generation X believed that the boom might result in some stability.

This led to their credit going bust, forcing them to delay purchases such as houses and

cars, which is never a good sign for any economy.

In short, Generation X went into college with a recession, and graduated into another one.

The first one affected their ability to inherit.

The second one affects their ability to collect future earnings.

3.

9/11

The coordinated attacks of September 11, 2001, which killed thousands in New York City, Washington

DC, and Pennsylvania, was both a tragedy and a black mark in the nation's history.

It was an economic disaster at a time when the Dot Com recovery had not fully taken place.

plus, Generation X was now asked to fight a war on two fronts: Afghanistan and Iraq.

While these wars were the most unpopular in United States history since Vietnam, the military

was hiring, as well as doling out substantial bonuses for signing up.

For many, the only viable career options were in the United States military.

This was not exactly how a generation once seen as slackers, who wanted nothing more

than to sit at computers and become millionaires while wearing flannel, saw their collective

futures shaping up.

Now, record numbers of Generation X'ers deal with post-traumatic stress disorder as

a result of their service.

They would also come back to a world to find that they would again be none the richer for

it.

2.

Hurricane Katrina

It is hard to believe that, as of this writing, it has been over eight years since Hurricane

Katrina made landfall on August 29th, 2005.

The Gulf Coast was never exactly a model of economic stability, but Katrina seemed to

exacerbate an already economically distressed region.

Today, there are still lasting effects, since losing everything that you own can occasionally

not only take years, but also generations to recover from.

The additional problem was that the resulting diaspora also put a job crunch on other areas

which did not have jobs to spare.

A domestic crisis at a time when wars were being fought on two fronts spread available

resources very thin.

Again, in addition to the loss of life and the human toll, Generation X would see yet

another example of how the wealth in their lifetime was disappearing out of the vault

like in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

1.

The Stock Market Crash of 2008

In September of 2008, what had already been over a year of bad economic times were further

hindered when news of a failed bailout caused the Dow Jones to drop nearly 800 points.

It was the worst drop in United States history, as well as the worst day of trading since

the first full day of trading after 9/11.

Generation X was born into recession, dealt with another when they were coming out of

high school, and yet one more when they were coming out of college.

Now, the Great Recession hits, and not only is employment affected but the house they

may had been finally able to buy is now worth less than half its original value.

The house isn't even worth half of what they'd be paying the bank for the right

to live in it.

Incidentally, that sort of predatory lending and "complex financial products" is now

precisely why this latest recession is happening.

Even more insulting, the banks are deemed "too big to fail," but the random nobodies

of Generation X are by no means too big to fail.

Whatever wealth was left was gone, and soon enough any funds reserved for retirement will

be as well.

By the time they are told they can't ever retire, Generation X will be used to bad news.

Come to think

of it, they should be already.

WTF is going on with North Carolina's voting map? - Duration: 2:33.

North Carolina has been in the headlines quite a bit recently.

North Carolina's congressional redistricting case is in the spotlight.

A major decision by the nation's highest court.

The Supreme Court ruled that North Carolina's districts were unlawfully drawn

to dilute the influence of black votes.

Delay only thwarts justice.

And Governor Roy Cooper has asked lawmakers to redraw the map.

But what a lot of people don't know is that a bill was introduced back in February that

would create an independent commission to do just that.

And the bill is going nowhere.

HB200 creates standards for redistricting that would

in part by creating an commission that excludes anyone who holds public office and their relatives.

The bill specifies a district's ideal shape and population size,

but most importantly,

Right now North Carolina voters are pretty even along party lines.

But republicans have a super majority in both the state house and senate.

This bill would help North Carolina better reflect its citizenry.

It's primary sponsors are republicans and it's received bipartisan support.

We have to serve the people of North Carolina and we must make sure they have full confidence

in the integrity and fairness of our elections.

It is so rewarding to me to be part of a bipartisan group of North Carolina legislators who want

to be part of crafting a bipartisan solution.

And North Carolina's citizens agree: 59% of voters are in favor of nonpartisan redistricting.

Only 15% are opposed.

Despite this support, the bill has yet to make it out of committee.

And that might not be an accident.

The committee is chaired by Rep. David Lewis, who also chaired the 2011 committee that drew

the very maps that the courts just ruled unconstitutional.

The bill has been gathering dust for 3 months, prompting North Carolinians to hold,

"The People's Hearing on HB200"

At stake is the very heart of our democracy,

the rights of citizens to have their voices heard through the ballot box.

We have the right to vote and we have the right to be counted in the election and counted equally.

It's time for this to stop.

Listen to your constituents.

And still, crickets from the committee…

But the fact is, the map need to be redrawn.

When, how and by whom is yet to be determined.

than to sit at computers and become millionaires while wearing flannel, saw their collective

futures shaping up.

Come to think

of it, they should be already.

...first of all let's understand what the spring does exactly.

It's, of course, that part of the pedal that keeps the beater swinging and active, and

this is why it's so important, we can either work with the spring or against the spring,

so basically, the pedal, once it goes in this position, what the spring wants the pedal to

so, is to have the beater going immediately back, ok?

It pulls the beater back and so, it means that if we're playing an ankle motion or any

kind of technique...

They would also come back to a world to find that they would again be none the richer for

it.

How to Choose the Best Business Video Background | Video Coach Brighton West - Duration: 2:39.

What should be behind you in your videos?

Backgrounds are really important and often overlooked or poorly implemented, but not

after you watch this video.

I'm Brighton West and I help coaches, authors and solopreneurs use YouTube videos and online

courses to grow their business.

If you're new to this channel, press the subscribe button now.

If you're already subscribed, press the little bell icon to get notifications of my

future video.

I like my white background, but for my DIY clients, I usually recommend something more

natural.

Backgrounds are really important for establishing credibility in your viewers' mind.

Have you seen the kids interrupt the BBC interview video?

This guy is giving an interview on BBC and his kids pop up into the background.

There's no way to ignore that.

At the end of this video, I've shared the link so you can watch the entire video.

It's really hilarious when mom comes in to round them up and thinks that if she crawls

along the floor, she'll be off camera.

So rule #1 for background is no distractions.

No children, no cats, no words.

Words are interesting.

When we see them on screen, we feel compelled to read them, so watch out for bookshelves

unless you're filming with a DSLR and can blur out that background.

Your viewers will be paying more attention to your reading habits than your video content.

When you're on camera with a new viewer, they don't have much context to decide if

they trust you.

So eye contact, nice outfit and a proper background are things that you need to think about.

Rule #2 is establishing authenticity or authority.

White backgrounds look kind of high tech.

Apple started the white background trend.

Black backgrounds look more high fashion, and natural backgrounds provide context.

If you're talking about cooking, then be in a kitchen.

If you're a professional chef talking about cooking, then it should be a commercial kitchen.

If you are a lawyer, you probably have law books behind you.

Doctors have diplomas or x-rays or skeletons.

The idea is for the viewer to say, "That's the place I would expect to find the expert

in your field."

Now back to those black or white fabric backgrounds.

They're kind of hard to get looking good.

I would not recommend them for a beginner.

The problem is that for white, you need a lot of light directly on the background.

And for black or white, you'll need to manually adjust the exposure of your camera.

If you're looking to do a black or white background, check out another video.

The last thing I wanted to mention is colored paper.

This seems to be a good bet for beginners.

The lighting doesn't need to be perfect and you don't get any wrinkles as long as

you properly store the paper.

Wistia has a great blog post about this.

I'm putting a link in the description.

What's the right background for you?

Let me know in the comments down below.

I love reading and replying to comments from viewers.

Give it a shot.

Oh, and go watch that BBC video, too.

They've looked for it in South America...

...but it was in Africa the whole time.

I'm the only one who's seen it.

And made it out alive.

I can see you!

2015-2017 Mustang Steeda Billet Aluminum Vertical Links Review & Install - Duration: 2:47.

Vertical links, in general, are going to be for anyone that's looking to help get rid

of the wheel hop that the IRS suspension of the S550 allows for.

You have a few different options when it comes to bushing that are going to differentiate

the ride quality that you'll get and the performance of the link as well.

You see the links have delrin bushings, which are the second hardest option that you have

when it comes to bushings.

That means that these are going to be a good option for someone that spends time at the

track, or puts some hard miles on the street, and is worried about blowing out a poly bushing,

[inaudible 00:00:25] also doesn't want the rough ride quality of a spherical bearing.

The bushing chart, if you will, goes like this.

You have your rubber bushings at the bottom of the chain, because they are the softest.

Then, you have your poly bushings, which are more stiff.

Then, there's delrin, which are the bushings in these links, and on top of that at the

top of the chain are rod ends and spherical bearings.

Spherical bearings aren't really bushings at all.

They connect the suspension [inaudible 00:00:45] to the chassis.

With that in mind, delrin bushings are going to be very stiff, and they're going to be

able to handle a lot of abuse without being noisy or clunky, or adding NVH like spherical

bearings would.

Other than delrin bushings, these links also have billet steel bushing sleeves and spacers.

This is going to add to the strength of the delrin bushings and affect the flex of the

bushing.

Bushings aside, the vertical link itself is an improvement over the factory link.

These are thick, CNC-machined, billet aluminum, while the stock links are stamped steel.

These aren't going to flex under load at all, and they're lighter than the stock links,

all at the same time.

I do want you to keep in mind that while these will work to reduce wheel hop and keep the

rear planted better, these are only one component of the IRS.

There are a handful of other pieces that you can look into to really stop wheel hop and

get better traction.

You can even start to get into things like cradle and diff bushings, or even lockouts.

But at the end of the day, these are still a good step towards eliminating the wheel

hop and getting the rear more stable.

That means harder launches and keeping the suspension more consistent, no matter what

you're doing with your car.

When it comes to price, you're looking at spending a little over the $250 mark for these.

It's a little bit more expensive than your other options.

But you have to keep in mind the bushing upgrade here and the Steeda name brand.

If you're looking for something a little bit less expensive, you do have some other options.

You just keep in mind the different bushing materials.

The install for these is an easy one.

It's a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and you can expect to spend an hour

or two tops to get the install completed.

You won't need any tools out of the ordinary.

Actually, only a few wrenches and a torque wrench, and of course a jack and jack stands,

or a lift if you're lucky enough to have access to one.

The vertical link sits right behind the rear rotor, so you have to pull the rear wheels

to get access.

Once that's done, you're just looking at two bolts to get the stock link out.

You'll reuse the factory lower bolts when installing a vertical link, but use the supplied

hardware and the washer for the top of the link.

You'll want to torque these down to spec and reinstall your wheel and tire, and that's

all it's going to take.

These are Steeda billet aluminum vertical links for the 2015 and newer Mustang.

You can check them out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

2004-2014 F150 Recon High Power LED Dome Light Kit Review & Install - Duration: 3:14.

Hey, everybody.

I'm Justin with americanmusscle.com.

And this is my quick review of Recon's high-power LED dome light set available for all 2009

and 2014 F150s.

You should be checking out the recon kit here if the dark and dim factory interior lights

just aren't cutting it anymore and you want a huge improvement in light output over those

factory light bulbs, along with making the switch to more modern technology in the LED.

Now, this is a very basic kit with a basic purpose here, guys, right, to provide your

interior with a little bit more light.

Now, the Recon kit does include three separate bulbs or LEDs in this case to be used in three

different locations, the overhead dome light in the center of the cab and along with the

driver and passenger side map lights.

So why make the switch to the modern LED lighting?

Well, guys, for starters, as you might imagine, they're going to be far brighter than the

dull, yellow factory incandescent lighting.

In fact, Recon's actually claiming these things are going to be 18 times brighter than these

factory bulbs.

Now, this should be more than enough lighting for you, no matter what time of day you need

them.

Along with the additional brightness benefits here, the LED is packing some other benefits

as well, such as lower power draw through less wattage, which is going to put less strain

on your truck's battery and charging system, which might come in handy if you do happen

to leave a dome light on overnight, not going to wipe out your battery.

And finally, guys, the LEDs are going to be much more durable and last far longer than

those factory incandescent bulbs.

In fact, the average life span of an LED or each individual diode is going to be roughly

50,000 hours.

So basically, you should never have to worry about replacing these things for the lifespan

of your truck.

So yes, you are going to be spending a little bit more money initially with this kit here.

However, they're not going to be burning out at the rate of those factory style bulbs.

Speaking of price, at the $60 to $70 price point for the Recon kit, some of you guys

might think that's a tad excessive when compared maybe to some other generic options similar

to this.

And I don't totally disagree with you in this case.

However, what you have to keep in mind is Recon is known for producing some high-quality

LED lighting and accessories.

So, again, you have to factor that into the price when comparing these to some of your

other generic options you might find on other option sites.

As for the install, well, there's really nothing to it.

Now, I do want to urge you, though, however, to be careful because some of the factory

housings ca be a little fragile.

And if you start muscling these things around, they might actually break on you.

As for that center dome light, simply pull that thing straight down, swap out the bulb

and you're good to go there.

No real tools needed for that one.

On the other hand, the map lights for the passenger and driver's side will require a

flat-head screwdriver to release the clips in order to pull that down but, again, very

simple stuff here.

Again, just use caution.

That's all I can tell you.

Again, swap the bulbs out for the map lights and you should be good to go there, guys.

Overall, a very simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here for the Recon

kit and maybe 30 minutes of your time to get everything in place.

To wrap this one up, guys, it's pretty simple.

If you don't mind spending the money on the Recon kit here, you're going to drastically

improve the lighting for the interior of your F150 while getting some of those secondary

benefits when making the switch to a modern LED such as the long life span and the low

power draw.

That's my review of the Recon high power LED dome light kit, which you can grab for your

truck right here at americanmuscle.com.

Hacking and Handicap - Duration: 4:55.

Does it work?

I want to cry.

It works!

Hi guys, this is Lenwë, I hope you're doing well!

Today's video will be a little bit peculiar since we will talk

about hacking and handicap.

We're going to come back to an experience I've made with Romain, a friend I met

in World of Warcraft.

I met Romain when our respective guilds merged.

He was playing a rather stylish paladin in the name of Wed.

After several months spent together cleaning out the dungeons of Outland,

we discovered who is hiding behind his avatar.

Romain is actually a young man with a very rare neuromuscular genetic disease

that paralyzes him almost completely.

His PC is his only way to socialize, to stay in touch

with his friends, to have a job and to forget his handicap by living epic adventures

in the persistent worlds of MMORPGs.

Unfortunately, advances in medicine fail to suppress the progression

of his disease and it is increasingly difficult for him to use his PC, which forced him

to stop WoW a few years ago.

This did not prevent us from keeping in touch anyway.

Recently, Romain called for donations from his friends to buy

a new muscular contactor.

It is a special probe that picks up the micro-movements of his muscles

to control his PC.

And like most equipment for people with disabilities, this device

is horribly expensive, more than 650 €.

When chatting on Facebook one day, we wondered if we could not make

a cheap DIY system, based on consumer components.

We rapidly headed to the Makey Makey card, a USB module created

by MIT students that can transform any electrically conductive surface

into a touch interface.

The possibilities are endless, the only limit being the immagination of the makers.

For example, it is possible to make a piano out of bananas, transform your buddies

into a drum machine or even play Super Mario with custards.

It's more a gadget than anything else.

Moreover, on Amazon, it is sold under the "Toys" category.

We believe that this module could prove to be much more useful than a simple toy,

providing valuable assistance to people with disabilities, and this

is what we will try to prove.

I went for the weekend at Romain's house to conduct experiments with him.

The first goal is to enable Romain to play World of Warcraft again.

Romain plays with the mouse but he can move it only across a few millimeters.

We pushed the sensitivity of the mouse to the maximum but it was not enough

for him to be able to steer his character at 360°.

It was necessary to use a macro in game to adjust the sensitivity to a value

beyond the bounds allowed by the interface of the game.

In order not to have to reenter the macro at every connection, we made

an addon which download link is available in the description of the video.

Moreover, in order to move his character forward, he must hold both buttons down,

which he is no longer able to do.

To solve this problem, we have binded one of its muscular contactors to

an unused keyboard key (the pause key) which we then re-programmed

to toggle both buttons on and off.

To do this, we used the AutoHotKey software with a script of our creation.

The download links of AutoHotKey and the script are in the description of the video.

We then tried to use Makey Makey as a contactor in order to provide

additional controls to Romain.

Makey Makey can control the mouse and the keyboard keys commonly used

in video games.

It can also be connected to an Arduino module in order to be reprogrammed or to control

other equipment such as a motorized wheelchair.

Roman can easily stick his tongue out and move his cheek.

To make the sensors for these movements, we took inspiration from the system used

by Professor Stephen Hawking, who suffers from ALS.

Romain uses gamer headphones that hold firmly in place, which make an excellent support

for the sensors and will make them easy to take off.

To connect Romain to the ground of Makey Makey, we first tried to use

an antistatic cuff but the contact was not done properly.

We ended up wrapping the wire directly around his arm with a wet cloth.

We recovered some thick single-stranded electrical wire used in the buildings.

Twisted several times, it becomes very rigid while it is still possible to

bend it in order to adjust it easily.

For his cheek, it was necessary to make a much more accurate sensor because the amplitude

of his movements is very narrow, only 1 or 2 millimeters wide.

We used another piece of single-stranded electrical wire, twisted 4 times,

at the end of which we placed a small very thin wire taken out of a telephone cable

that stings Romain's cheek when he contracts it and thus establishes the contact.

The first tests were conclusive.

Romain reactivated his World of Warcraft account, raised his character to the maximum level

and discovered the content he had missed in the last 5 years.

Since my visit, Romain and his father improved the setup by adding plugs

to the sensors, which make possible to disconnect them easily,

plus some heat shrink tubing for the aesthetic side.

So, the bet is won !

If you also have a disability, I hope this video has been useful to you

and will give you some ideas to improve your ergonomics solution, at the lowest price.

Anyway, please share this video because it may also be useful to

other people who are in case similar to Romain's.

And if you are a hacker or a maker who works on projects

intended to improve everyday life of people with disabilities,

feel free to share your work in the comments.

With this, do well and I hope to see you soon in a next video!

We're going to use them to make a simple garlic topping.

Remove the skin and roots of the garlic cloves.

Crush them with the side of a knife, and roughly chop them.

Remove the roots of the mushrooms.

Break them to smaller bunches.

Quickly poach them in boiling water for about 5 seconds.

For the garlic topping, we will need 1 tbsp of sesame oil.

add our minced garlic and cook them on low heat until they're softened, but not burned.

2 tsp of light soy sauce, 1 tsp of duo jiao jiang.

IRSA Tutorial: Getting Files for the Time Series Tool - Duration: 2:17.

So how do I get a table file suitable for uploading into the Time Series Tool?

First, you have to go to the main IRSA page.

Click on the catalog search tool.

We want WISE data.

Now, you need to first find a data table that has

multiple epochs of photometry, say the all-WISE multi-epoch photometry table.

If I select that, I can put in the RA and Dec

that I want, and I want a pretty tiny radius so that I only get the data for

that one source.

And then go and search.

In a couple seconds, it will come back

with 40 epochs of observation of this source.

The default plot looks a little silly because all of the epochs have the

same RA and Dec, but if you scroll down, here is the data table with 40 epochs.

I can save it to a file.

Here's where it gets a tiny bit awkward.

It saves it as a file that doesn't have a .tbl

extension and in order for the Time Series Tool to recognize it, it needs

that TBL extension.

So if we go over here, then we can upload the search and it

will work just fine.

What about NEOWISE?

Well, NEOWISE of course is all single epochs.

So we're going to go to the single epoch source

table, and we're going to put in the same RA

and Dec that I used before, and similarly a small search radius.

Now if I just run query I will get only the default

set of columns, and unfortunately in order for the time series tool to

understand what images to grab for each one of the epochs, it needs some

additional columns that aren't included by default.

So if you click on "long form" and then you click on "select all columns".

Then run query, you're guaranteed to have the columns that it needs in order to be

uploaded properly to the time series tool.

When it comes back, it has 81 epochs of observations.

There's scatter in the RA and Dec.

We can save it just like before and then we have the same problem

we had before where we're going to have to add a .tbl to the file name in

order for it to work.

So if we go back to the time series tool, go back to upload,

now we will pick the table we just downloaded.

Upload and now it works.

It has all of the images appropriately grabbed

for all of the NEOWISE epochs.
