Hello, just2good here,
and out of nowhere,
LEGO revealed the LEGO Ninjago Movie direct to consumer set -
the Ninjago City set!
This is a busy but beautiful multi-level corner building
with 4867 pieces,
for 300 dollars.
That makes it the third biggest direct to consumer set ever
released in terms of pieces.
I mean, it has more than the friggin' $500 Death Star
and it's $200 dollars cheaper.
Since this is such a big and awesome set,
I'll be expressing my thoughts
and revealing little secrets hidden throughout the set along the way.
Let's start with the minifigures.
The four major characters include an exclusive casual outfit for Kai,
another appearance of the Lloyd that appears in the Ninjago City Chase sets,
and then there's Jay in his suit,
a green Ninja outfit for Lloyd,
and...
Misako?
Who looks like a young,
cute cute waifig here.
Isn't she old... in the TV show?
I'm conflicted.
I love that new hair piece which has hair sticks in it.
It's a really good mould.
She also has an ADORABLE winking face,
I guess that's her alternate expression.
Honestly, since this is a major character,
I feel she might be in the LEGO Minifigures line,
especially since she has a new hair mould.
I'll stock up on her there.
We get a lot of generic faces,
but each of them have a name,
and a lot of them come with AMAZING new torso prints.
Like look,
this kid on the left has the classic green ninja on his shirt -
the one that appears in the LEGO Movie -
and the guy on the right has a FRIGGIN' Galidor shirt.
THE FAILED LEGO THEME THAT EVERYONE DESPISES FOR HOW UGLY IT LOOKS.
How is it written in English if Ninjago has its own language...
and it looks like someone forgot to crop some white out...
oh whatever.
I'm looking too much into this.
Oh, and this police woman has the Super Secret Police outfit
from the LEGO Movie,
much like Officer Toque from the Ninjago City chase set,
and I think that's the first time we're getting the police hat
in plain black with no printing.
Then the build.
Oh my, this build is very crowded,
but that's fitting for this type of big city.
It's littered with LEGO references as well,
beyond that Galidor hint.
Like look, there's the Rocket Racer logo
from the LEGO Racers game.

And, there's the Island Xtreme Stunts logo!
I loved that theme when I was younger!
That one was pointed out to me by my boy XJ9.
There's a Ronin poster,
which also references Exo-Force,
once again thanks to Jay Phoenix,
and even a FRIGGIN' Chima comic -
I spotted that one myself.
I'm sure there's more references to be seen.
Like, LEGO barely gave a look into the comic book shop.
And actually,
speaking of which,
let's look at each floor of the building.
The whole building is on a dark gray 32 by 32 set baseplate.
The bottom floor is a nice walkway...
I love how it's just covered in 1 by 2 trans blue tiles,
even topping off the plant life with the paint pallete
in just a plain green piece -
to make it a lilipad.
That's briliant.
There's even a little boat way,
and all these weird pieces for roofs and boarder pieces
that look great with the scenery.
I'm sure they're existing pieces,
but they look so foreign here,
I can't pinpoint which are which.
There's an elevator that brings you up
which looks like a cool function
though I kind of wish it was a closed elevator as opposed to one platform.
I do like how there's these little rooms and crannies,
it's so fun.
The second floor is attached to the third -
where there's a restuarant at the botoom and a comic book store.
The restaurant has a crab grilling play feature,
and I love how it looks like a Japanese restaurant.
The official description says that Ronin poster up front
has four interchangeable posters,
so I can't wait to see the three other ones -
you can see one of them popping out at the back that says tired of walking?
I also like the little target
that is made out of three of the newer boomerang piece.
The bank up front also apprarently has an ATM with despensible cash
as a play feature,
and I love that cherry-blossom like tree over the comic store.
Oh, and the comic book store has little figurines
and even that comic that was supposed to be exclusive
to the character encyclopedia...
once again with english writing.
Odd.
The third floor has an outfit shop
which reminds me of the Grand Emporiom a bit,
and I love the use of the LEGO Kingdoms helmet in the orange color
with a party hat attached.
Such a weird and funny combination.
The roof up top has a funny brickbuilt pufferfish and squid design,
as well as a sushi rotation.
I think it's odd that this uses studs
instead of the 1x1 circlur sushi prints that already exit,
but that's how the mechanism works.
I like the printed panels out back,
and the little sushi menu.
The actual roof itself has an interestingly detailed roof,
and they even fit a little house with Lloyd popping out.
The big window design in the middle looks like a great build as well.
So yeah,
that was a lot to take in,
and I'm sure there's more little secrets that I missed.
For example,
the description says there's Ninjago Trading Cards are in the Comic Shop,
but we haven't had a good look at some of the sides in the shop.
Will I buy this right away?
I dunno,
but I will sure as heck buy it eventually.
Because look, this is a beautiful playset,
and playsets are my favorite.
Actually, the Destiny's Bounty set is still probably a better set overall,
but I think I want this set a little bit more.
