Youtube daily report Jul 25 2018

🦄👋 Hello my beautiful people I hope you are very well today

I have my routine exercise for the legs one of the

three routines that I have because I always I have more than one or more than two routines already

either for the abdomen for the legs or for the arms so today

I will be sharing one of my routines for legs in the video of the

questions that I asked there I told you a little bit more or less that was what

I was going through my weight with my body with my exercise and with all that and several

of you asked me for my routines like that that today I have my

first leg routine at the end of the video I will be explaining a

little bit more about what I do but right now I'm going to show you the

exercises that I do and how I do them and the whole thing so if you want

know what is the routine that I do for my legs stay to see this

video for these exercise routines for

legs and glutes the first thing I do is do squats to me I love doing

squats with weights without weight that I have nothing left at this time

I'm using 20 pounds but with the I'm going to increase more pounds

I do this routine only for 30 minutes so I do 3 to 4 sets with 10 or 15

repetitions the repetitions can vary according to the weight right now

You can see but I have my feet on plates of weight that later on they

I show I like to use them because I feel that the squats burn more than

this way that by doing them only stop on the floor when I went to the gym I used

a few stools that way squats burn even more this kind of

Weights that I am using also you can replace it with a Russian kettlebell for

this type of exercise or all the exercises in general we have to

make sure to keep a very good posture to avoid injuries after

do 10 step squats to do dead weight when I had my

routine in the gym added weights to the bar but at this moment the weight

from the bar I get enough more I'm going to add the weights for

this exercise is super super important keep your back straight

this bar weighs 45 pounds and is recommended to start doing this type

of exercises with the bar alone and over time, add it but

I also recommend doing this exercise in front of a mirror or that

someone is watching them to make sure of having a straight back to avoid

injure

the third exercise that includes this routine is lifting legs with 45

pounds in the gym could lift 60 pounds but as I'm starting from

again I'm only using 45 but also over time I will be increasing

we have to listen to our body and go gaining weight over time and not

start it crazy if you realize I keep my legs elevated for about

seconds since I've realized that from this way exercise burns more and

As I only do 30 minutes I have to use techniques for exercises to burn

faster this exercise I do 15 repetitions or until I feel

I can not do it anymore but it's also recommended doing fewer repetitions and

add more weight I this week that come I have to increase the weight to

this exercise because I am already feeling easy and here is

level that wants to say hello

i

2

now I go back to the same thing and here if you can see the plates of those who were

speaking here I'm doing exactly the same as at the beginning just that

I'm showing a different angle it I forgot to mention them at the beginning

although I imagine that they have already mind that when I do the squat I

I'm crouched a few seconds also for better results

as with food too we have to inform us about the

exercise I have gradually gone discovering what works best for me and

always improving with time when it's about lifting weights I always

like to be in front of the mirror to make sure I'm doing well

exercises thanks to god I never have hurt only one is it was that I almost

I tear the hair when I had it long by careless he was with a high tail

and I got stuck between two weights and to get it out less intelligent legion and I

I blew a lot of tips this Exercise with the bar helps us

job the back of the legs and the

Buttocks in the video I'm just showing two sets but as I said to the

I start from three to four sets I just did not show them all

because I do exactly the same when I am doing I try to exercise

Concentrate a lot and just rest about 30 or 40 seconds to drink water

I always end up super red like a tomato only this time it does not show

a lot because I had to be moving the weights and also the camera so

this routine was something different

the next thing I do is stretch myself by about 5 minutes for not so dawn

sore the next day remember that Stretching is super important

before starting to do the exercises is the only thing I do is play with vélez

the run that reached you and with that I have because see everything a flash

ah

x

I

plus yes

and finally to finish about 5 minutes on the bike just because I'm not

trying to lose weight but what I want is to tone my body and ready

this is all and now that you have already seen what they are

those exercises that I'm doing and as you know the whole thing now I'm going

to preach a little bit more about all this change that I have done good you

they know that I do not know if I had counted but I had a membership in

a gym that stays like 15 minutes 20 minutes from my house then we

my husband and I went every day for one hour and a half and obviously I do

I see results because my body is those bodies that, as they say, do not

forget the word the word is tone my body tonifies

pretty fast especially my legs so if I put him watching

malignant in my legs get well pretty but once I stop doing

Exercise for a week all that disappears and my legs are

they're pretty thin and that's what it was happening besides that my

food has changed a lot too that if you are interested in that

video I'm going I do not know if I'm not going to share before this video or after

of this one but if I already shared them I'm going to

let it live in the little box description to what I want to get is

I was telling you that at the gym I went for an hour or for an hour and

average when we decided to cancel that membership we started doing

exercise here in the house which I do not I took it very seriously at the beginning because

the truth that youtube for me is my work then I am well dedicated to

this and I preferred to be working in things for my channel to be doing

exercise but obviously I no longer I was liking like I was watching my

body my legs are or not me platelets I felt very skinny and I did not

I was feeling good so I decided Go back to the exercise routine

now I want to clarify this routine or These routines I have been doing for

one month no more than three weeks to a month and let me tell you that I have seen very

good results and here in my house we have a mini gym my

husband has been buying things for exercise here in the house and that

He's super happy too because he's not The same thing for me personally is not what

same exercise in a gym with all that equipment that

do here in the house with a few little things then what I started

to do is as I say, I dedicate a lot of time on youtube

then I am a woman being two hours or an hour and a half doing exercises

a lot of time for me so what I I did was create a routine by myself and what

what I started doing was doing three exercises but of those exercises that

who love that you feel that you are burning and also those exercises or

those three exercises, I'm just doing for 30 minutes and then I do

about 5 minutes of cardio and then about 5 minutes in what I stretch then there

they go about 40 minutes so that's all the time that I am dedicating

to my exercise right now and I'm watching very good results now when I

I went to the gym about 10 20 minutes ago of cardio then I was walking here over there

so the exercise sometimes put me to talk to people and in that I was

wasting quite a lot of time so in I was not really going to what I was going though

I am one of those people who puts on like face of series in the gym for what

They should be talking to me but still they always came close and I like to go

to talk alignments more when I I'm doing curls, I do not have my

phone with me I leave it at home and I do not touch that phone because I am

of those people that I like to focus on but still always what he was

looking for machines or what I expected that a machine was vacated that we

Take time away then I've been watching better results here is more up

sweat more because as I say they are three exercises but they are those exercises that

they burn me then that has been me liking a lot more of what the

routine that I had in the gym because now I'm using my time

wisely a little thing that I want to clarify is that I still this body

that I have right now this is not my goal I just started I'm working on

I'm still in the process so I do not want you to think about what it is

that I think I have the core step that I'm an expert in exercises nothing

what to see I'm just sharing what I am doing

for now as far as I am concerned working so

that this video like a lot and that mainly help them already know that if

this video they liked and helped them and have not yet subscribed to the channel what

you can do here below in this little red button where he says subscribe

just click there and that's it, and Of course, do not forget to follow me

Teresa and Nacha - (Part 36) - [Engl Subs] - Duration: 1:32.

Hi,

Hi, beauty

Hi,

Hi,

How are you?

Fine

How are you, Teresa? What do you want to take?

Eh ... a beer. No, better water

Drinking and eating, at this rate I don't know what will happen

Do you know what is good to lose weight, have a big time and burn many calories?

Dance

That's what they say, yes. What happens is that I ...

The dance and me don't ... I have two left feet

I thought the same thing, but it's just a few steps, and let yourself go

And it's good to disconnect, right?

The best

After this very tragic week we had ...

Well, I had thought about going for a few drinks, some tapas ...

That makes you gain weight, right?

No, I think it's better to go dancing

Well, where is it going to stop?

What's going on? I missed something, right?

Okay, okay, I admit, it's a plot

Because, look how beautiful they are, and Maria have invited us to dance with them

Come, Teresa. One day is one day!

You really want to go?

Yes

Well, okay ...Let's dance. But you can't laugh at me. And if I put you down ...

No, I promise not to say anything

We're going to give you some classes, eh, Jesus?

What?

They come with us

Ah, good

Something happens?

No, nothing, an order that has been delayed

Hey, man, that all of this is bad

See you later, Paty

Bye

Let's move on

Here's What I Think About Buying a Classic Car and More - Duration: 3:34.

rev up your engines, Jim Kowalski says, Scotty I'm young

24-year old, I have a passion for classic cars can you offer a recommendation on

how to get started with a classic car hobby and how I might learn to restore a

car properly, okay you're starting so don't go for a super-expensive classic

like don't go for a 67 Mustang Fastback, it's too much money, you're gonna get, you

might go for something like a 65 Falcon or something, where you can get them

cheaper, they're simple cars, they're easier

to work on, you're not gonna have the expensive parts

and since it's a Ford, there's still tons of parts out there that you can get at a

reasonable price, that aren't gonna cost that much money and being simple you

could do that, go for that route, don't go for you

know the super expensive ones that are worth a lot of money, you want to go

a little bit lower and if you like it and you do a good job, then maybe you'll

go for a little higher end one the next time, that's the best way to go, the

dragon boy, says do you refuse customers from bringing their own parts realize

customers aren't that rich to pay a lot more to mechanics, okay here's the thing, you

have to buy good parts and I've been a mechanic for 50 years, sometimes even I

get the wrong parts, because I try to save my customers money but sometimes I

find you can't buy the cheapest parts, say you go online and buy a cheap

alternator, I had a customer do that six months ago, and I agreed well you don't

any money, you buy it I'll put it on, well he bought an alternator for his Honda

bought it online, I didn't buy it, I put it on and guess what it

didn't work, so then he had to take it back, his car is stuck here for days, if I

would have bought the right alternator it would have been out and you wouldn't have any

problems, so I warn people, I mean if they want to buy their own part I'll

warn them, if it doesn't work you still got to pay me to take it off put another

one on and your car's gonna be stuck there

you're better off having me buy the part from a quality part at a good price, now

yes a lot of mechanics are crooked, and they'll buy something for $100 sell it

for $300, well you know I'm not into that either, but the problem with having a

customer bringing the part is, a lot of times it's

not the right part or it's a cheap part that doesn't work, and then it becomes a

gigantic rollercoaster of who's to blame for somebody who wants their car fixed right,

that's why most mechanics will not take parts from other people, and I can't

really blame them because a lot of times you get the wrong part and then

everybody's stuck, Kevin Williams says, Scotty I got a Toyota

Camry 1996 whenever I turn on the AC the car backfires when it starts and the power

seems to be cut, okay the first thing you want to check is have both your battery

and your alternator load tested, places like Auto Zone do that free, and

realize that when you turn on the AC, that stresses the electrical system and

so you have a weak battery, weak alternator it might backfire, now if they

check out and alternator is good and the battery is good

it generally means the AC compressor is starting to wear out, and if it does, it

drags the engine too much and can make it run poorly, but generally backfiring, that

has to do with not enough electricity, so have your alternator and battery load

tested first on that one, so if you never want to miss another one of my new car

repair videos, remember to ring that Bell!

The Truth: I Went to Tanacon, Homophobia, and More! - Duration: 16:40.

Hello my people

Hello my people so I decided I've made a lot of like really emotional

Videos like serious videos and this is really cool

And I decided I wanted to make something or it just feels like we're hanging out

I'm gonna bring up some serious topics and give you guys advice. But I also just want to like joke around a good time. Okay

Basically, like really sell off this video. I got a ukulele and I posted my coming out like one day ago, and I'm like

Okay, how do I celebrate I only texted it was like, okay, how should I celebrate?

I don't know people were like, oh Rome and I was like hmm. I'm gonna buy myself a ukulele and paint it gay

In fact, we're gonna make it beyond even just being gay

We're gonna paint the whole flag and get all the spectrums in so I decided to be ukulele and just talk to you guys

I don't know

I was inspired by my friend component like hell disarray coffee in the morning

But let's talk about things and I tweeted you guys and ask you guys and asked what Instagram behind you guys

Just bring up its a note of topics. They should talk about and I'm gonna talk about them

Yeah, first I designed my merch and if you guys want to sneak peek of my next video

I will only do it in my next video if this gets

Twenty five thousand likes. I'm watching you and give me a giveaway. If you follow me on instagram at Jesse page

I'm going to actually give away

Follow my trash -

I

Put some weird stuff on there. Let's get started. All right, this is for all of you

My people this is basically me celebrating and uploading my coming-out hope with you guys because I wanna sell this way my people

So I started painting but I realized that maybe easier it is to like paint markers

So I might do that which it was kind of cheating

But I want to make sure it's good when I use the ukulele be proud of it

And the first one I think this one is very irrelevant

Someone asked for me to talk about homophobia

Not gonna lie since I have come out I have dealt with it through some people my personal life and a life

I did lose quite a few followers, but I mean

I cursed what it's been like recently happening a lot. I don't know what's happening to me

I promise I'm still soft

You have gotten some comments some people that don't support

And we're not happy that I came out online and in real life. I also had

And I'm a strong girl something new that I've had to learn to cope with but I'm dealing with it

Sometimes it's good to just not take things, too

Seriously, because you just can't like you literally can't if I took every comments super seriously

Comfortable with myself, you know, so I would say yeah just not taking things too

seriously

Recently I tweeted about this but I kinda homophobic the dog Instagram

What dogs are not homophobic think about it?

I have a dog my dog have never discriminated me for my sexuality or for my identity

You know address whatever it is. Don't care. Don't just want to love and company

So hiding behind your dog's Instagram is cool man. It was some intense stuff about burning in hell

And then like the dogs Instagram and how to ten of bows

It was like I love the dressing up with my sister was like, oh my gosh. I wore behd for such a

But I would say I could have looked at that comment

I'd be like, oh my gosh, but I was like, you know, I'm comfortable with myself

I'm happy and I know that dog. We wish the best for me make me do not the words and make me mouth

But yes, I've been dealing with some homophobia in my real life minutes to the little interstage. Where's that video?

What's the only coming out to you guys, but I mean the verb, you know

My family and stuff like there were people and right

It's like there were friends that didn't know but there were a lot of people my life that didn't know

So it was like childhood best friends and stuff. Like I had so many texts when people haven't talked to me forever

It's still something like getting used to actually talking about with more than like, you know

like my like 10 closest friends and also are a part of the community or

Coming out the paint I

Would say well what I hope this channel is a place where you feel comfortable to is just being confident within yourself and getting to

that point it's so important taking time and understand yourself and knowing that you are who you are and that's so

Incredible and there are so many people that do support you out there. I support you. Okay. We're very supportive here

Well, I mean, obviously I do

Living alone for the first time. Ooh

So I live alone and I personally go through phases where I love it and hate it

But I don't think I could do my life any other way

I mean physically like I could but for me it just works best

You have tried to convince myself that I have become an extrovert and I have learned

Don't do it, Jessie

you are an introvert truly through and through I love my channel which my Instagram stories and stuff tell otherwise

But that's because I never like post anything that I'm just sitting by myself watching chain posted videos or something

You know living alone has taught me so much about myself. It's really so much responsibility

It's a little bit of fear. Generally at first was really hard for me

I moved out when I turned 17

Which is really a long but I think it's become a stronger person from it and a lot of benefits to

Saying it was hoppier lungs like no bereavement stressing out about you or just watch some weird animation all the night

Which I have full app dying

but I think it's also really easy for me to just isolate myself and like totally

Not one of them talk to anyone and when I'm unhappy it's easy for me to just cave in and just you know

Not reach out when I need help and friends and that's so incredibly important to reach other people

So i've been learning to do that a lot more and brown myself for that. It's definitely taking time

So I messed up I tried actual pain it just like was not working it was too thick

Not thick

But yeah, you can do it. You can live alone. You're gonna learn so much about yourself

There's so many benefits and I think and you it's gonna be hard at first

It's hard for everyone at first I give you all the love pray for the wicked

I had so many people want me to talk about pray for the wicked. So that is painted, Minnesota

How about lyrically?

Really resonate with that alava because all about how movies and everything everything about Hollywood and have you come here with these dreams?

He's like very pretty dreams

but then you see reality and the reality of the

entertainment industry isn't as

Beautiful as its portrayed of all it can be so incredibly dirty and I think that's a lot of the theme of the new album

Which I really like. I love the music video for heylet's my I made it

I had a few friends that were underwhelmed

I was not underwhelmed see finding recording the song notes for a long time on Twitter Frank. You know it Steve

It's all have a listening to the overpass 24/7. I put it in my coming out video

So I loved it so much. I wanted a bit songs and there that of just like really been with me

I was so nervous to upload that video whatever. I was like kind of coming nerds or whatever

I just listened to that song you feel a lot better. So like I need to put this in the video

It's just a large part of my life through this whole process. So I

But I love to pray for the wicked I've been in this household they slam the table we love it

I will support Brendon Urie with my heart and soul and I think he is one

Insanely talented individual and I will be at that concert you bet

There's intimidated my neighbors, did you pre-order pray for the weekend?

Anxiety, I have really good control over it and then recently things have been a mess, but it kind of makes sense

I have had obviously a

Nerve-wracking a few weeks hosting it did give me quite a bit of like three occurrences of my olds anxious tendencies

Which is really sad because you know

It's supposed to be something celebrated and I hope in the future other people don't have to feel that anxiety

I felt the process of this video posting it I

Am going to work on it now. I went to cheap therapy last year

They stopped because I had really good control over everything and this year's been really hard for me

If you follow me on social media, you know, it's just not been a nice

You know, it's so crazy. This year has probably been like the most eventful year of my whole entire life

It's just been constant event after event and not always the most fun

Things happening with this life. I've had really high highs and really high lows high hopes

But I'm working on it and that's important

but I will continue to work on myself and also take my

Experiences just in life and a lot of you my grandma's a therapist and she has very serious

Braemore and mental illness and I like this that's such a beautiful thing when she's going through

Demisexuality in just the asexual aromantic

Community in general like we don't get recognized as much. Yes

I talked about being demisexual and I didn't realize it have such a reaction which I think is really cool because

Humans tend to operate in the opposite way where they are sexually attracted first sometimes but for me

Yeah, it ordered for me to like feel sexually attracted to someone like I have to build that romantic relationship first

I didn't even know if I was gonna talk about it in the video because it's not always as well known

But I was like wait that's more of a reason to talk about it. Why not?

and I was like

I don't know if that's like too much to talk about like we may be able to just talk about for now my bisexuality

But so many people appreciated it team that made me so happy

So insanely happy looks pretty sexuality. I've seen shows and I've seen

Representation and we're getting there but I think there's definitely a lot to do. There's so many horrible

Stereotypes about asexuality, you know like this little stereotype that are cold-hearted and it's not true

I know so many wonderful a romantic asexuals and I don't know I think break sigmaz more. Yeah

How do you deal with crushes dude you needed for me on this? I don't know how to deal with them

I have cartoon crushes. Like that's a thing. You know that I'm like out I can bully talk about it girl

Superhero characters have always been a thing for me just like Starfire from Teen Titans bisexual culture is winning today

It's Robin and star pack

But dealing with crushes someone help me with that

I don't know so many attractive humans. So many lovely humans. Show me mark humans

Yes humans that are beautiful inside and out we love but then with all these beautiful humans

Comes crushes and then you don't know what to do. Listen

We got this together and this

households

we support each other make group chats and Twitter Instagram talk about their crushes and relate to each other feel like you're not the only

One what sucks though? I know I keep getting back to LGBT thing, but it's just this is me celebrating my video

It sucks when you're attracted to a person and you don't know if they're also attracted to your gender or the same gender

Whatever the situation is. Oh the worst the worst. That's a struggle

I'm sure a lot of people relate to that

a lot of people asked me to talk about Tanic on and the only reason why I'm going to talk about it is because I

Was there I haven't talked about this on social media, but I was asked Hannah Khan. I was on the website

I was a creator there. I was announced like everything. I was a full experience

I was very low-key about it because it's been a little controversial recently the big conversation

But yeah, I was there have like footage of myself and walked it. It was very crazy

I left early because large crowds don't do well with me. I just actually finished Shane Dawson's like series he did on it

I just finished so good. Oh, he's so talented, but his bisexuals coming out video

Ever watch that was I sexual I really resonated managed

Appreciate him as a person man. I don't know makes me proud me youtubers

That's my armbar gut for the day as per Tanika, I don't know it's hard

I don't know exactly how I feel yet Tim and I talked in the DMS. Everything was going pretty well there

I was surprised by how many people were there?

that was like probably the biggest day but like everything was going really well the panic on and then suddenly like things were trending gonna

go hectic and suddenly they're working like creators leave like leave the building and

I told my friends that I went with I was like girl we have to leave right now

I don't want to be stuck in this convention centers. I'm like, I'm scared

And we left but I was there for a pretty long time how lot of friends that were doing and I just wanted to come

Hang with them and I just see what it was. Like I literally like kind of photo

Booth they had their like I literally was there all the creators there were so nice

So insanely nice like the gabbie show that whole group. They were all very nice a

Lot of you guys were there I was actually shocked

I didn't think it was really my audience that much everyone like knows this

This is you know, this isn't new knowledge, but it was very hectic

I was very scared and nervous for one of the kids as for the like tea

I don't know. Am I really a team except for like seeing that kid get crushed that the door was really scary

I'm just hoping everyone was safe and it was definitely a very interesting experience for me

I'm gonna wine could have done a little bit better with this but it's okay

I mean like I'm never gonna use it, but it's not that cool

Yeah

Your girl was there. I understood this human being on the internet

What I was doing there, it was hectic

I literally was there for like 3 hours and then I just went home I was so overwhelmed

And we're thinking copings like being here and I just I left your girl left it's how it's looking so far

Oh, yeah, it's getting there right - chewy someone said so if you don't follow me on Twitter, basically

My humor is very weird

Why would you see we didn't know you all know it my humor is weird, but you guys all appreciate it

So it's it's hella cute. It's a thing ratatouille - Russia - II

Are weird we had someone come or mean greets this was legendary with the whole entire ratatouille movie tripped on it

Not only do we talk about mental health

But I also share that the rats name is not right in - it's in fact Remy and I think there's something beautiful about that

Work though. This is like my Twitter my branding a mess

Let's just pour out right now, I'll give you a little close-up

This is where we are at how to cover my mess ups with just like a lob to glue glitter

But I kind of like it. Yes, but anyways guys

Whoa now I'm super dark

We're here for wholesome content in this household. Oh, it's still dark

Your local anime protagonist

Finished with it for now. I'm gonna put stickers on top of the glitter, but I just tweeted and all of you guys

You're like, oh my gosh make me win and thought it was super cute

give this a thumbs up if you want me to do another one and I'll give it away to one of you guys I definitely

Want to keep this one because it's emotionally significant. That's okay. Oh, she's out of tune. Oh, yeah, we're going out right too

Chewy, another thing

I have to say probably most legendary thing ratatouille came out like the movie came out the same day that I came out

I love my people a lot. I stand you all

I'm a proud father a minute feature you all it's basically

Chose you on the fridge and your post

I stand you all in this household

And remember if you're ever having a bad day this trip brought it - we came out the same day

I came out well, and I will see you guys in

future

You know I'm all about that Bayes: Crash Course Statistics #24 - Duration: 12:05.

Hi, I'm Adriene Hill, and Welcome back to Crash Course, Statistics.

We all have ideas about how the world works.

And even if we haven't ever used numbers to describe them, we see different beliefs

everywhere we go.

From whether it's healthier to be a vegetarian... to whether school uniforms are a good idea;

we all have slightly different "models" of how the world works.

And yet we all agree on a lot.

For example, we all believe the sun will come up tomorrow morning--or at least that it'll

come up eventually if you live at the poles.

And we all believe that the Oxygen atoms in the room won't all suddenly move to one

corner of the room, leaving us to suffocate.

And almost all our beliefs change based on our experience.

That's why your friend with a snake that he cuddles with all the time isn't as afraid

of snakes as you are...since your only exposure to snakes is that one time when you were hiking

and a rattlesnake almost bit your dog.

Our beliefs are numerous, sometimes complex, and consistently changing.

So it can be useful to have a way of doing statistical inference that reflects that.

INTRO

Bayes' Theorem--or Bayes Rule--tells us the that probability of A given B, is the

probability of B given A times the probability of A, all divided by the probability of B.

And remember that the numerator in this equation is just another--way of writing the probability of A and B.

For example, When you're out to lunch, your sister mentions that she have a friend who

has breast cancer, but doesn't say much else.

You recently saw a documentary about males with breast cancer.

Because it's so fresh in your mind, you wonder if your sister's friend is a male.

Your gut feeling is that it's not that likely they're male... but let's quantify that.

You want to know the probability that your sister's friend is male, given that you

know that friend has breast cancer.

Using Bayes' theorem, we can calculate this probability.

The probability of being male, given that you have breast cancer is equal to the probability

of having breast cancer given that you are male times the probability of being male,

divided by the probability of having breast cancer.

Thanks to government health agencies, we know many of these statistics.

The probability of getting breast cancer given that you're male is 0.001, and we will assume

the probability of being male is 0.5.

The overall probability of getting breast cancer is 0.063.

Armed with your facts you calculate that the probability that your sister's

friend is male is only about 0.79%...so...not very likely.

But maybe more likely than you would have anticipated.

If we rearrange Bayes' Theorem slightly you can see that it allows you to update your

beliefs based on new information:

When we used Bayes' Theorem what we were really doing was updating our belief that

a person was male (probably about 50/50 odds if you know nothing else about them) with

the new information that they had breast cancer.

This new information changed our belief; we went from a 50 percent chance to about a 0.79%

chance just by taking into account this new information.

This idea about updating beliefs is core to Bayesian statistics and can be used to test hypotheses.

We start with some idea or belief about how something works.

For example, you set your friend Maria up on a blind date.

Maria's excited, but nervous, and on her way to the coffee shop to meet her blind date

Jordan, she wonders whether he shares her love of Star Wars.

From her experience meeting people in the city, she believes that in general, there

are slightly more Star Wars fans than non fans.

She guesses there's a 60% chance that a given person is a Star Wars fan, and a 40%

chance they are not, which means that she thinks it's 1.5 times more likely that someone is a fan.

When Maria arrives at the coffee shop she and Jordan do the normal first date small talk.

He asks her what she did this last weekend, and she told him that she saw the new Star

Wars movie.

Jordan says he did too!

After hearing this, Maria feels like it's more likely that she might have met her Porg

loving soulmate.

She knows that not everyone who's seen Star Wars is a fan, but she can use the fact that

Jordan has seen it to update her belief about whether or not he is one… or she could ask!

Maria knows that the probability of having seen the last Star Wars movie given that you're

a fan is 0.99, since pretty much all the fans rushed to see the movie.

But not everyone who went to see the movie were fans.

Some were just curious, and others were dragged by family or friends to see it.

She thinks that the approximate probability of having seen the movie given that you're

not a fan is 0.5, since some but not all non-fans went to see it.

Maria can use the ratio of these two probabilities: To see which hypothesis is more probable given

that we know Jordan saw the movie.

Based on Maria's quick calculations, this new information means that it's now 1.98

times more likely that Jordan is a Star Wars fan than not.

Her heart starts beating a little faster!

This ratio of the probability of our information under one hypothesis--that he's a fan--compared

to another--that he's not a fan--is called a Bayes' Factor.

It represents the amount of information that we've learned about our hypotheses from the data.

Maria can use it to update her previous belief--or prior odds--that it's 1.5x more likely that

Jordan is a fellow Star Wars fan.

All she has to do is multiply her prior beliefs--the one's she held before she had any new information--by

the Bayes Factor which tells her how much to change her belief, now that she has gotten some evidence.

The resulting belief is called her posterior belief in this case 2.97.

And she can continue to incorporate new information.

When Jordan says that his dog is named Anakin, she can again update her beliefs.

Or just ask!

Mathematically, we took Maria's prior belief:

And updated it with our Bayes Factor, which told us how much our data--Jordan seeing the

new Star Wars movie--should change her beliefs about his fanhood.

This is a very simple example of how we can use Bayesian Hypothesis Testing to compare

the probabilities of different hypotheses based on data that we observe.

But this doesn't look exactly like the Bayes' Theorem that we saw at the beginning...

That's because instead of looking at the probability of one hypothesis given the data, we're

looking at the ratio of two hypotheses.

Instead of just calculating the probability that Jordan was a Star wars fan, given that

he'd seen the latest film, we compared the probabilities of the two hypotheses, given

that he'd seen the movie.

So we're really looking at the ratio of two calculations of Bayes' Theorem because

we're comparing two posterior probabilities.

Luckily, the probability of having seen the latest Star Wars movie is the same in both

equations, so it cancels out and we end up with this:

In Bayesian Statistics, these things are called:

the Prior--what you believed before you saw any evidence

the likelihood--a measure of how much your evidence should change your prior beliefs

And the Posterior--what you believe after you've seen the evidence

In a more general form we can say that after we see the data, how likely one hypothesis

is compared to the other is equal to the ratio of how likely we thought these hypotheses

were before we got any evidence, adjusted by the evidence with which the data provided us.

This reflects the core idea of Bayesian Hypothesis testing: Updating what you currently believe,

with new information.

But notice that I said that you update your belief.

Inherently, what we believe is subjective.

It depends on who we are, and what we've experienced.

While Maria initially believed that a star wars fan is 1.5 times more likely than an

non fan, you may believe something else.

Like that it's just as likely that someone is a fan and not a fan.

And since this is just a personal belief, it's okay that you and Maria believe something

different to begin with.

But we used Maria's prior beliefs in our calculations, if you were to do the same calculations,

you'd come up with a different number.

And this is one criticism that Bayesian statistical inference faces.

One of the main uses of statistics is science which is supposed to be relatively "objective"

and not influenced by opinion, and yet, here's a method that includes beliefs in its calculation.

For example, say a scientist bases her conclusion that Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) exists

on the posterior odds of her Bayesian calculation.

She concludes from her study that it is 5 times more likely that ESP exists than doesn't exist.

But upon reading her paper, you find that her prior beliefs about the probability of

ESP were way higher were way higher than yours.

She assumed that it was just as likely that ESP exists as it is that ESP doesn't exist.

And that just doesn't seem right to you.

You could find another scientist who has about the same prior beliefs about ESP as you do...

but that seems difficult and a bit inefficient…

There is a better solution.

Often studies that use Bayesian calculations will not just report their posterior odds,

but also the Bayes Factor that they calculated.

If you disagreed with a researcher's prior odds, you could use the reported Bayes Factor

to adjust your own, different beliefs about these two specific hypotheses.

For example, if you believed that it was 1,000 times more likely that ESP doesn't exist,

you could use the researcher's reported Bayes Factor, 5, and adjust your own beliefs:

Even though the evidence in the study makes you believe that ESP is more likely than before,

you still think it's relatively unlikely that ESP exists.

Even though Bayesian Hypothesis Testing includes subjective beliefs, the Bayes factor allows

you, and anyone else, to use the evidence from a study or analysis to update whatever

your prior beliefs about the two specified hypotheses!

Just like you and the ESP favoring researcher, sometimes evidence can lead two people to

very different conclusions.

But often, unless someone has already decided something has a 0% probability, when there's

sufficient evidence, two people with different prior odds will come to the same conclusion.

For example, you initially believe that sushi is pretty dangerous and has a high risk of

infecting you with parasites, and your co-worker thinks that the risk is low to moderate.

If you both see your boss and entire team go out to sushi every week for 2 years and

not have any issues with parasites, both of you, despite your initial differences, would

probably have updated your beliefs with this new information and concluded that sushi is

pretty safe after all.

If you had only seen your boss go out to sushi 4 times without getting a parasite, you may

have each come to different conclusions since that's not as much evidence.

You may still think sushi is pretty risky, but that may have been enough evidence to

convince your co-worker it's safe.

Your current beliefs would rely more on your prior beliefs than the new evidence.

But the huge amount of evidence provided by a group of healthy co-workers over 2 years

was enough to overwhelm your and your coworker's prior beliefs.

So your new, posterior beliefs are more affected by the evidence than your prior beliefs.

Bayesian hypothesis testing provides a structured way to quantify a logical process that we

do every day, incorporating new events into the way that we see the world.

It provides an explanation...or at least a hypothesis--about why two people can see the

same evidence and reach different conclusions.

In some situations, the logic of Bayesian methods similar to how we think naturally.

Like a doctor who uses patient symptoms like fever and fatigue to update the prior odds

that a patient has the flu compared to a cold so that they can prescribe the correct treatment.

Or the way that you updated your belief that your best friend is a kind, caring person

by continuously incorporating evidence of their kindness--like covering the cost of

your Starbucks when you lost your wallet, or helping you move.

In real life you don't ignore all previous pieces of evidence you saw as soon as you

get a new one, and Bayesian Inference allows for you to take your new updated beliefs and

update them again.

As some Bayesians say, "yesterday's posterior (your updated belief), is today's prior

(the beliefs to be updated)"

Thanks for Watching, I'll see you next time.

Chris Hayes Explains Why MSNBC IGNORES Important Issues – They're Ratings Killers! - Duration: 4:29.

MSNBC host Chris Hayes admitted something on Tuesday night that I'm sure his corporate

media masters are not going to be too happy about.

Chris Hayes posted something about climate change and how devastating the effects were

of climate change in Greece.

He got a response from it on Twitter that said, "Sure would be nice if our news networks,

the only outlets that can force change in this country, would cover it with commiserate

urgency.

Acting as if there's nothing to be done is just excusable."

It's just not excusable, excuse me.

So that was the tweet that responded to Chris Hayes who was talking about climate change

on Twitter, and this is what Chris Hayes responded with.

"Almost without exception, every single time we've covered, it's been a palpable ratings

killer.

So the incentives are not great."

Climate change: an issue that affects every single human being on this planet, no matter

where they live, no matter how much money that have.

They don't cover it, they don't talk about it because it's a ratings killer.

Corporate media doesn't wanna talk about important issues, be it climate change or drug that's

gonna kill you, because those are snoozefests.

Why talk about that when Donald Trump just tweeted a tweet with a misspelled word, we

gotta spend five hours talking about that.

Hayes continued.

That was not the only tweet where he admitted the truth.

He went on to say this: "There is a vast array of stories for which this is true as well,

stories for which there simply is little exgenius audience demand," and I probably pronounced

that word wrong, my apologies.

But there's little audience demand.

You guys, you need to be out there demanding these stories, and I'm not gonna lie here,

Chris Hayes is 100% right.

Not only are these issues ratings killers, because we have seen it through our YouTube

channel, we've seen it on other's YouTube channels, but we still cover it.

Eyeballs don't necessarily matter.

What matters is that you're out there being honest to yourself, and reporting on the stories

that actually matter to people in this country and all around the globe.

Chris Hayes is not at fault here.

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that.

Chris Hayes admitted the truth.

And what worries me here is that Chris Hayes is going to end up being punished for telling

the truth here.

How many times have you seen any member of the corporate media come out and say, "Yeah,

we don't talk about that because it doesn't get us ratings.

The people up on the top floor don't want us to do that."

Never, except of course for Cenk Uygur after he was let go from MSNBC for wanting to talk

about important issues.

Same thing with Ed Schultz.

I fear that Chris Hayes is about to go the same way.

Because he finally admitted the truth, he wasn't afraid to do it, and any time any reporter

at MSNBC, or any of these corporate media outlets, I mean, hell, all the way back to

Phil Donahue at MSNBC, any time they have the courage to go out there and admit the

truth, they lose their jobs.

I am confident and sad that that is probably going to happen to Chris Hayes, but his message

is clear.

The corporate masters at MSNBC, as well as the other networks, they don't let their hosts

talk about issues that affect your daily life because it is a "ratings killer."

So what you can do, public, not only demand that they go out and start covering these

stories, but even better than that, turn it off.

Corporate media should be dead to you.

They don't care what you want to know about, they don't care about the issues that affect

everything you do throughout your daily life.

So why should you care enough to give them your eyeballs, or any second of your life

when they don't care about that life, other than in terms of advertising dollars?

6 NEW Business English IDIOMS 💼 - Duration: 8:48.

Hey there I'm Emma from mmmEnglish!

In this lesson, we're going to get down to business,

knowing some of the idioms used in a professional

context is going to help you to sound more

relaxed and natural in the workplace.

And of course, help you to understand what the heck

everyone else is talking about!

So today, I've got five useful idioms for you

that are commonly used in a professional context

- a business context.

And that means they're perfect and fantastic to use

in an interview as well, so stay tuned!

Now I always tell my students one of the best ways

to learn and remember English idioms

is to link them to a memory or an experience in your life.

That way, when you think about the idiom

or you hear it somewhere

you connect it with the personal moment in your life

and experience.

And when you think about the experience, it helps you to

think about the idiom as well.

Now you don't have to learn and remember

every idiom in English, but you should learn

some common ones that you can actually use

to talk about your life.

I'm going to tell you a story.

My first job out of university

was with a huge corporate company.

I was an intern.

I thought it was going to be photocopying and stapling

and getting cups of tea for my boss.

But at the time that I started, my department was really

understaffed.

They just didn't have enough people to manage

the workload.

So I really got thrown in the deep end.

Within weeks of starting, I was writing reports and I was

making presentations to the management team

which was kind of cool but a bit scary.

So in this idiom, the 'deep end' is referring to

the deepest part of a swimming pool

where often your feet can't touch the ground.

So if someone throws you or pushes you into the pool,

that's a bit of a shock, isn't it?

You can't feel the ground.

So you're thrown in the deep end when you're

put into a new or a difficult situation

without any preparation.

And this often happens in the workplace, doesn't it?

Sarah's been so stressed lately. She started a new job

last month, but they've really thrown her in the deep end.

I'm not afraid of being thrown in the deep end.

I think it's the best way to learn!

Now I don't want to throw you in the deep end

on your first day, but

do you think you could make a presentation to the CEO

by the end of the week?

A similar idiom is to be 'out of one's depth'

and it has a similar meaning because it's an

uncomfortable place.

Again,

thinking about the deep end of your swimming pool,

your feet can't touch the ground and you have to swim

to keep yourself alive, right?

My brother loves the company that he works for

but he feels a little out of his depth in the finance team.

Now when you start a new job, maybe a new role or a

position in your company

or you start working for a new company,

it usually takes some time to learn the ropes.

So this means to learn the basic tasks

that allow you to do your job well and efficiently.

You know, like how to use the photocopier,

how to use the company's email system,

who to call if your computer won't start,

who you report to

and which meetings you need to attend

- all of the simple things

take a week or two to get used to

when you start a new job.

How's the new job?

It's going well! I'm still learning the ropes,

but my colleagues are really great.

You'll also hear people say

"I'll show you the ropes"

which means that they'll show you how things

are done, the standard, normal way that things are done.

So note that if a person has been working at their job

for over a month, this idiom isn't really relevant anymore

because they've already learnt the basic tasks

they need to do their job.

Now, once you've had your job for a while,

it might be time to focus on

climbing the corporate ladder.

So this idiom talks about the progression of roles

through a career,

starting with an entry-level job, an internship

or a position straight out of university.

But over the years, you get promotions,

you switch companies,

you become known in your industry,

you work your way up to better and better opportunities.

You get paid more, you have more responsibilities,

you'll be a manager and then one day

maybe even the CEO!

So this progression is called

'climbing the corporate ladder'

Tim climbed the corporate ladder quickly.

He became a partner at the company

by the time he was 26.

But James has never been

interested in climbing the corporate ladder.

I feel inspired by women who climb the corporate ladder

and raise a family at the same time.

Amazing!

People who think outside the box are usually

pretty valuable employees

because they think creatively and they solve problems

in non-standard ways.

So they think outside or beyond the normal

or standard way of thinking which often leads

to really interesting, creative solutions to problems.

We need to think outside the box

and find a different solution.

Steve's probably the most creative guy on the team

- he's always thinking outside the box.

Now in Australia, you'll often hear this expression as

'thinking outside the square'

It's the same thing.

Are you the type of person

who thinks outside the square?

Last one, a 'steep learning curve'.

Now this is a brilliant idiom to use

during a job interview

- so was the last one actually -

but this one is a brilliant idiom to use

during an interview or a speaking exam.

So use it when you're reflecting or thinking about some

of the challenges that you've overcome in the past.

So it could be relating to work or even life experiences.

So it's used when someone has to learn something

really quickly, usually just by giving it a shot,

by doing their best and then

learning from their mistakes.

So using this idiom to describe an experience

that you've had helps to show that you're not afraid

of hard work or challenges and that you're willing

to build new skills and overcome problems.

So it's a really handy one to have!

For many international students,

studying in an English-speaking country can be a

steep learning curve.

Going from employee to business owner

was a really steep learning curve for me!

It's still steep actually, I'm only about here!

So that's it! Six new business idioms for you.

I'm sure that you can think of some others as well

that relate to jobs and business.

So if you can, pop them in the comments below

and share them with everyone.

And of course, I always, always love to see you

actually using the English that I teach you.

So take a moment right now

to write a sentence using one of the idioms

that you've learned today and add it to the comments.

I'll check it for you but you'll also get to see

how the idioms are being used in lots of different

examples from all of your peers.

Once you do that, then come over here,

keep practising with me. Try out this lesson here

or maybe even that one.

Make sure you subscribe if you haven't

already subscribed, you'll get a new lesson

every single week.

Bye for now!

Do not think - I have to do my religious duties.

I have to pray, I have to read a Bible extract, I have to go to the Holy Mass.

Change this thinking.

Tell yourself - I want to feel happiness that God Himself gave me access to.

I want to feel happiness at seeing God.

I want to lighten my look by seeing His beauty, I want to make my ears happy by listening to His words.

I want to make my heart happy by the closeness He invites me to. This is the invitation that resounds in the Gospel today.

Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear - He longs exactly for this for us.

For happiness, for the encounter, for seeing, for listening, for feeling the living God.

Make money every second you're at the casino. Here's how! - Duration: 7:42.

Hey there.

It's ya boy, Mikey Slice, and today I'm gonna show you hot to make money at any casino for

8 hours straight, and I'm starting right now!

(MikeySlice.com) If this is your first time here and you are interested in making more

money make sure you subscribe and hit the bell so you don't miss anything.

So you hear it all the time, people making money at the casino, and it's not you.

Every time you go there you lose, but the first time you went you won.

Why is that?

Believe it or not the best thing that can happen to you when you go to the casino for

the very first time is to lose.

Because, you won't go back ever again, because you lost.

And you know why you lost, and you know that you're never gonna win.

So that's pro tip #1.

But wait Mikey, if we never go back to the casino again to play then how are we supposed

to make money?

Well, I'm glad you asked.

If you're playing slot machines, you're at a huge disadvantage the house is going to

take 85-90% and give it back to it's players, but they're going to keep 10-15%.

So for every $100 you put in that machine you're going to get 85-$90 back.

Pro tip #1 you can hit that slot machine 500 times in one hour.

Do the math.

How many hundreds are you going to go through in an hour?

I'll wait.

So if you're betting $1 a spin and you spin it 100 times.

That's $100.

If you're doing that for a whole hour straight that's $500.

Don't play at the slots!

The best way to make money in the casino is the table games.

And for a really good reason.

Some table games the house has a little over a 1% edge over the player.

So that means for every $100 you play you're getting $99 back.

So your money lasts a lot longer as a player.

Some games it's a lot worse for the player.

Three card poker being the absolute worst.

Stay away from that game at all costs.

But when you get paid, you get paid a lot.

So I guess it's up to you.

If you're more of a I want to win big if I win kind of person.

Three Card Poker might be for you.

If you're someone who likes to grind it out and is okay with winning $50-$100 at the end

of the day then maybe Blackjack or Bacarrat is more of an option for you.But either way,

the house still has an edge.So how are you gonna be on the winning side of it?

It's coming right up I promise.

Make sure you watch this whole video.

Now we have Routlette.

Roulette is a one of a kind game, because it's almost 50/50 if you bet red or black,

or even or odd.

But there's 0 and double zero that can really screw you.

But if you play on a European wheel there's only one 0 so the edge actually goes down

a little bit for the house.

Which means you might be able to profit better than let's say Three Card.

Here's a fun fact, if you add up all the numbers on a Roulette wheel the total comes to 666.

Is that really a game you want to play?

But that's not including 0 and 00.

Another fun fact about Roulette.

The guy who invented it spent hours in his basement trying to find out how to beat it.

Didn't come up with an answer, drove himself crazy and actually killed himself.

I don't know about that game. The very best odds in the casino, if you're trying to leave

losing the least amount possible and playing for the longest time possible is Bacarrat. The

house only has a 1% edge on the banker bet, and almost 2% edge on the player bet, but

if you win on the Banker bet, you have to pay a 5% commission if you win the hand.

So even when you win you have to give the casino some money back.

So again up to you, but I have a really big secret on how to actually make money guaranteed

at the casino and I'm going to uncover it right now!

BeforeI uncover it I want you to take a second in the comments below and tell me what you

think the best way to make money is.

I'll wait.

There's a few requirements.

You need to be able to count to 21.

You need to have a high school diploma or GED, and be drug free.

This is important and you're gonna be blown away when I tell you why.

All right all right all right.

I'll stop prolonging it.

I know you're dying to know.

I'm dying to tell you, but I really want you to finish that comment below so I'll give

you a couple more seconds so you can hit that submit button and then compare your answer

at the end of the video.

But first, check out that video!

After countless hours of being in the casino and not winning anything, consistently, I

had an epiphany.

Can't beat em, join em.

All right, here it is.

If you want to make money for 8 hours straight at any casino you need to go on their website

and submit an application to be a table games dealer.

Or any other position that you'd like to fill at the casino.

Because the house always has an edge.

And don't you want to be on the winning side?

Yeah I know, it wasn't the answer you were looking for, but I'm living proof.

I've been working at the casino for a little over a year now, and I love it.

I make money in the casino for 8 hours straight, and I don't have to risk a penny.

It's super fun, super enjoyable, and you start out part time, so what are you waiting for!?

Now I'm full time so now I get to make money in the casino for 40 hours a WEEK.

Now that's something I never thought was possible until I started working there.

So if you want to join all you have to do is go to their website, fill out an application,

nail the interview, and it only takes about 5 weeks to become a table games dealer.

You'll be glad you did.

I really hope you enjoyed this video.

If you did, make sure to give it a big thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe and hit the

bell so you don't miss anything.

Thank you so much for watching I appreciate it.

Make sure you tune in next week on Thursday so you'll see another video.

I upload every week on Thursday's.

Can't wait to see you then.

Have a good one.

Thanks for watching!

Tesla Model 3 - Is It Worth It? - Duration: 3:54.

This past weekend we drove to the Tesla Factory in Fremont to pickup a Model 3 car.

We had been on the waiting list for while and then a few weeks ago they reached out

to let us choose options and schedule a pickup date.

To be honest, I've had pretty mixed feelings about this whole thing.

Let me explain why by breaking down the pros and cons.

The biggest and most obvious pro, by far, is that this is an electric car.

We no longer have to buy and burn gasoline directly, which cuts down on pollution.

It's also a very safe car with how it is built and the amount of sensors and anti-collision

features it has.

Some people might also list the design, performance, and other features of the car, but to be honest,

I don't really care about these.

As long as it gets us from one place to another safely and efficiently, I'm happy.

I will say I do like how simple the car is though.

Now, the biggest con is the resources used to create the car.

For example, it takes a lot to mine, process, and ship the raw materials, such as lithium

for the batteries.

It will also take a lot of energy to charge it over the life of the car, but this is only

getting better as wind and solar sources continue to improve.

Just to be clear, I'm not a delusional Tesla fan boy who thinks this is the perfect answer,

but it does seem to be a step in the right direction.

Articles researching the life-cycle of this car compared to non-electric cars show that

in the long run it will have less impact.

Of course the ideal forms of transportation are walking, biking, and shared public transit,

which we try to use as well, but a car is still really useful where we live (unlike

places like New York City or other countries with efficient rail systems).

Another con is the controversy and possible instability around Tesla as a company.

If you look at business news you will find a variety of opinions on how Tesla will do

in the long term.

I'm certainly no expert, but they seem to be making a good product and are the most

innovative in the field.

Worst case, if they do go under, I would imagine someone will step up to support the existing

cars out there.

Another issue is the price.

While the Model 3 is much cheaper than the Model S and Model X, it's still much more

expensive than many other cars.

The base price is $35k, then another $9k for the extended range battery which we wanted

for our longer road trips.

Right now they only offer the car with a premium upgrade of another $5k, which I didn't really

want, but it is unclear how long it will be before they make cars without this.

At the end of this year the federal incentives will be cut in half (from $7,500 to $3,750),

which almost pays for the upgrade.

Last, taxes and other fees add another $6k or so.

Since we're in California we also get another $2,500 rebate, which brings the total price

of the car down from $55k to $45k.

This is a lot of money.

Much more than we've ever spent on a car.

I hope they are able to reduce the price with time to make it accessible to more people.

So, this brings us to the big question: is it worth it?

Stepping back a bit, we try to live our lives with minimal negative impact and to use our

time and money to do more good.

So to answer if it is worth it, I like to consider how else this money could have been

used.

Would it be better to buy a hybrid car for half the price and donate half to charity?

Or keep out current gas car and donate it all to charity?

Or invest the money in a business that is doing something else to improve how we live?

It's really difficult to predict what would do the most good, especially when we consider

the long-term impact.

I'm certainly not convinced that giving our money to Tesla and reducing our environmental

impact with this car is the best route, despite my brain's confirmation bias trying to tell

me that it is.

Even if it is not the best, I hope it will at least do more good than harm.

The Difficulty with Linearity | Mini-Read - Duration: 11:11.

Why are linear games so difficult to get right?

There seems to be a constant industry push

to delegitimize the linear, narrative focused game of course—

which we're gonna just keep ignoring because it's really dumb.

That said, they are tricky

and it's true they often end up being a version of something most of us recognize:

Gameplay.

Cutscene.

Gameplay.

Cutscene.

And so on—

with the relationship between the two ending up kind of awkward.

It absolutely doesn't need to end up like this.

Sometimes it doesn't, and we'll get to that a bit later.

But first let's talk about why the relationship between the two often does ends up awkward.

Welcome to Ludocriticism.

My name is Oskar, and this is Mini-Read.

Today we'll be looking at Time in Fiction as it pertains to games.

Let me start by saying this: there's nothing inherently wrong with this structure.

In fact, it's can be a good way of rewarding a player after a test of their skills.

Think about fifth- and sixth generation Final Fantasy

and how the stark difference between the polygonal gameplay segments

and the beautiful pre-rendered cutscenes typifies this effect.

The reason the relationship between the two often turns out awkward

is both straight-forward and well-understood:

the key is the relationship between something called "story time" and "discourse time".

Story time is the amount of time it takes for an event to take place

within the fiction itself.

A day takes a day, having dinner takes about 30 minutes to an hour—whatever.

Discourse time, on the other hand

is the amount of time it takes for the fiction to represent that event.

A day can happen in a sentence, a chapter, or take up the entirety of a text.

Or as Suzanne Keen puts it in her book Narrative Form:

Any fiction can play around with how these two relate to each other

for different effects.

For instance, you can consider how Mafia II and Mafia III

deal with the classic Gangster Movie montage.

The first one does a classic, Martin Scorsese-style montage, while the second

while the second has the player actually perform the many activities

that constitute a gangster moving up in the world of crime.

The effect of Mafia III as opposed to Mafia II

—as Noah Gervais noted in his video on the entire franchise—

is that maybe all those many activities aren't significant on their own

but instead when taken together—as they are in Mafia II's montage.

In other words, maybe the lengthy time it takes the characters in the story to perform these activities

is best represented in a short amount of discourse time.

In narratological terms, this is called a summary, which is surprisingly sensible.

The relationship between story time elapsed and discourse time expended is called duration,

and here's the whole gamut of durations:

As you can probably guess from the table

what Mafia III is doing can be considered scene

or even Expansion.

What the game is going for is likely scene

—where story time and discourse time are the same—

but I'd argue that because of the gamplay construction of the player's activities

the discourse time is more than the story time.

After all, things like flicking through menus

and repeating the same activity several times has to be taken into account.

A famous example of expansion

is this passage from Marcel Proust's "The Search for Lost Time"

where a character is describing eating a piece of cake:

That's one bite outta one moistened piece of cake.

The point here is that the short amount of story time of eating a bit of cake

gets contrasted with the lengthy discourse time it takes to describe

what eating it meant to the character.

It takes a single moment, and expands it to absurd proportions.

In doing so, it comments on the nature of memory itself.

While games aren't literature, and shouldn't be treated as such, they are at the end of

they are at the end of the day narratives

beholden to some of the same rules as narrative in other mediums.

the relationship between how long something takes in the story

and how long it takes to convey that event is one of those things.

Alright, so now that we have a solid understanding of time in narrative

let's get back to the linear game.

The Mafia games are, after all, open-world.

The problem for linear games specifically is that they most closely resemble traditional fiction—

—which is a double-edged sword.

Whereas an open-world game usually allows some player agency

concerning the order of things

or whether some events will take place at all—

the linear game has the player shackled to a predetermined trajectory.

That can be a really good thing, or a really bad thing

because it gives the game's creator control over the relationship

between story time on the one hand, and discourse time on the other.

Let's go back to the simple structure of narrative games.

Take this cutscene, or story beat

and say for the sake of argument that it conveys urgency in the plot.

After that, in the gameplay section, the player is tasked with going through

a whole slew of genuinely interesting and fun gameplay concepts.

Now, so far there's not necessarily a problem—

—the long gameplay sequence might be trying to subvert the urgency of the preceeding story beat

in order to convey something—

—we don't really know.

But say that the story beat right after the long gameplay sequence

has a character say something to the effect of

"We made it here as fast as we could!"

or are shown arriving in an obvious hurry.

That's when you have a problem.

The story beats and gameplay beats are at odds with one another:

the story time is meant to be short

but the discourse time (the time spent playing it) was really long.

Now, this example is extreme in order to illustrate the problem

but it's much easier to make these sorts of mistakes than you might think.

Have you ever walked casually into a room

only to have a cutscene triggered showing you character rushing into that very same room?

That's a less consequential version of the same thing.

It's also a type of ludonarrative dissonance, but that's not what we're talking about today.

The point is that linear games are more difficult to put together

because they take on the full brunt of the responsibility for the relationship

between story time and discourse time.

This is most clear when compared with the open-world genre

where part of that responsibility is left to the player

Understand this, and you've understood a large part of why it's become so pervasive:

it's just less pressure for the creator.

But wait.

Although I understand the instinct to think it's less pressure

I'd argue that it's actually another piece of evidence

pointing to the fact that game developers—

—on the whole—

—don't understand time in fiction very well.

And here's where it gets complicated.

Let's look at two last examples

—polar opposites in terms of linearity and open-world...ness?—

which have surprisingly similar approaches:

Half-Life

and Breath of the Wild.

Half-Life is a completely linear game.

I won't spend time explaining why it's so effective at what it does

because it's fairly common knowledge by now.

I'll just say that it puts you in the shoes of Gordon Freeman

and tasks you with simply putting one foot in front of the other until the end of the game.

It's about performing the actions of one character in real time.

As Gabe Newell put it:

What Newell is saying, in an almost comically condensed way

is that the interesting thing about video games isn't what you're doing

but rather the fact that you're the one doing it.

That's how Half-Life operates, but it's also how Breath of the Wild operates.

The game puts you in Link's boots, and says "it's all you!"

and the game isn't over until you move your little elf butt over to the castle

and beat the big bad.

The game never takes you to the castle.

Like Half-Life, it's less about what happens

and more about the simple joy of being the one who experiences the events.

What's key here is that both games are told in mostly scene duration.

The amount of time it takes to depict events is the same amount of time those events take

in the fiction of the story.

It's probably not a 1:1 relationship

—especially not in Breath of the Wild—

but it's pretty darn close.

Of course, a large part of why time works so well in these games is because

what you're choosing to do is what constitutes the story.

Control is seldom taken away from the player.

But there are also a lot of games that do take control away from you while handling time well

and they're not any more immune to the rules of fictional time.

What connects Breath of the Wild to Half-Life, after all is said and done

is that they understand the relationship between story time and discourse time.

Giving all the control to the player is just a way to keep that control in one place

rather than in many.

Of course, this suggest that while the open-world genre might give the game a bit more leeway

it's in reality even more difficult to manage time well in an open-ended narrative.

But that's a topic for another day.

In the current climate, the industry seems reluctant to bet on linear games.

Why?

Because making a linear game, just like any other narrative

requires a solid understanding of fictional time—

—of the relationship between the time of the thing being told

and the time of telling it.

There are many games that get it right, but honestly probably more that get it wrong.

I'd like to thank Micah Edmonds and Drew from Select Screen for reading the quotes.

You'll find their channels in the description, so go check 'em out.

Let me finally ask you this:

how would you feel about a game taking a very, very

VERY

long time to convey a pretty simple message?

I'm interested in knowing your thoughts.

As always: thanks for watching, and keep taking games way too seriously.

Well, I got a lot of comments that said go ahead and feed them frozen krill.

In this, uh, in this cup here, so that, with tank water of course.

So as you can see, we're going to go here and then we're just going to break some of

this apart in the bag.

Skype Therapy using mindfulness meditation for anxiety & depression - Duration: 6:19.

Welcome.

My name is Peter Strong and I provide online therapy via Skype.

Skype Therapy is a very good choice these days, especially if you want to take control

of your own recovery prosess, if you want to learn how to manage your emotions more

effectively yourself without relying on medications or years of therapy with a therapist.

During the Skype Therapy sessions that I offer I will teach you how to work with your emotions

using mindfulness.

Mindfulness is an amazingly effective way of working with emotions and also with thoughts.

Many people come to me with anxiety and depression and problems with overthinking, basically:

chronic worrying, rumination and all forms of reactive thinking that seem to be at the

core of their emotional suffering.

You probably have experienced this yourself, where the mind cannot seem to let go of reactive

thinking and it pulls you down into anxiety or depression.

So Mindfulness Therapy is a very, very good way of breaking this cycle, basically, and

it does it by teach you how to change the relationship that you have to your mind, to

these thoughts and emotions.

The main problem is that people are not aware of their reactive thoughts or emotional reactions

when the reactive thinking gets triggered.

We tend to become totally identified with it.

And when you become identified with your emotions and with your thoughts you essentially lose

control and they begin to take over and dominates your emotional health.

So we we learn to change our relationship to our minds and we do this by actually finding

those reactive thoughts and finding the emotions that power those reactive thoughts and then

we actually meditate on those thoughts and emotions using mindfulness meditation.

So mindfulness meditation in its pure form is about meditating on the mind, on thoughts

emotions, beliefs, memories, trauma and all the other components that constitute our mind.

It's a way of becoming the observer of your mind instead of becoming lost in the flow

of contents of mind.

So this is the primary focus of mindfulness meditation as I teach it, and when you apply

this kind of mindfulness meditation to work on your anxiety or depression or addiction

or intrusive thoughts you begin to regain control.

When you have established the right kind of relationship that is not reactive in this

way with your emotions and thoughts, then you can begin the process of healing and helping

those emotions change fundamentally so they no longer cause you emotional suffering.

You can break free from your anxiety, you can break free from your depression, once

you start developing a conscious mindful relationship with your emotions.

So if you like to learn more about Skype Therapy using mindfulness then simply go to my website

and email me and we can schedule a Skype Therapy session.

People like therapy via Skype because it's so convenient.

And it's definitely more comfortable for you, the client.

It is more focused on empowering you, on teaching you practical methods to work with your emotions.

It is less clinical in nature and it does not advocate the use of medications.

Medications do not treat the underlying psychological cause of anxiety or depression, medications

simply provide a temporary and often not very effective, relief from the symptoms of anxiety

and depression.

What we want is to get to the heart of your emotional suffering.

We want to heal the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression and that's the whole

focus of Mindfulness Therapy that I teach online over Skype.

So if you would like to learn more simply go to my website and if you'd like to schedule

a Skype Therapy session with me then send me an email.

Thank you.

We're going to give you some classes, eh, Jesus?

What?

They come with us

Ah, good

Something happens?

No, nothing, an order that has been delayed

The Story of Ocarina of Time in 3 Minutes! | ArcadeCloud - Duration: 3:30.

- [Narrator] This is the story of The Legend of Zelda

Ocarina of Time in three minutes.

Let's begin.

Civil war engulfs the lands of Hyrule.

Amidst the conflict a Hylian mother

and her newborn child escape the Kokiri Forest,

a land where inhabitants never grow up.

The dying mother leaves her baby in the care

of the Great Deku Tree, Guardian of the Forest.

A decade later the boy, Link, is awakened by Navi,

a fairy sent by the Great Deku Tree.

Hey, listen!

The tree beckons Link to stop the curse

placed within it by a wicked man dressed in black.

Upon freeing the tree from the curse,

Link learns that he must seek out Princess Zelda.

The tree bestows upon Link the Kokiri's Emerald,

one of the three spiritual stones.

With his dying breaths he tells Link

of the three goddesses, Din, Farore, and Nayru,

who've left behind the Triforce.

As Link leaves the forest, his childhood friend

Saria gives him an Ocarina.

Link is greeted by the worst owl ever, Kaepora Gaebora.

Princess Zelda foresees the coming of a boy

with a fairy and a green stone.

Sure enough, Link sneaks through Hyrule Castle

and finds Zelda just as she predicted.

She warns Link that Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo,

is the source of evil that she has foreseen in her dreams.

Ganondorf seeks the sacred realm

to attain the power of the Triforce.

They have to collect the three spiritual stones

and the Ocarina of Time to stop Ganondorf's evil plan.

Zelda's handmaiden, Impa, guides Link out of the castle.

Link's journey to collect the remaining stones

begins by climbing Death Mountain for Goron's Ruby.

He then enters the belly of Jabu-Jabu

to retrieve Zora's Sapphire.

With the stones collected, Link witnesses Impa

and Zelda allude Ganondorf on horseback.

Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time into a moat,

no big deal, it's only a sacred object.

Ganondorf asks Link where the girls fled.

Link refuses to give their location,

and is blasted by Ganondorf.

Link uses the Ocarina and stones to open

the Door of Time within the Temple of Time.

Link finds the Master Sword and snatches it up

without a second thought, bad idea.

The Master Sword seals Link away for seven years,

as he's not ready to wield it's power.

Even worse, this clears the path for Ganondorf

to reach the Sacred Realm and attain the power he seeks.

During Link's seven year slumber, Ganondorf

conquers Hyrule, turning it into a land of darkness.

Link is woken up as an adult by Rauru,

one of the seven sages of Hyrule.

He catches Link up on how the kingdom is going to

(bleeping) during his catnap.

Rauru tells Link he must seek out the other sages

if he is to stop Ganondorf.

Link returns to Hyrule, where he meets Sheik,

one of the last remaining members of the Sheikah Tribe,

those sworn to protect the royal family.

Link travels throughout the land.

He goes deep into the forest, into a volcano,

to the bottom of a lake, to the graveyard,

and to far reaches of a desert,

to track down the six sages.

Having found the sages, Link returns to the Temple of Time

to find the seventh and final sage.

Sheik greets him and tells another story

passed down by the Sheikah.

The Triforce acts as a balance of the spirit

of the person attempting to wield it.

Because Ganondorf wished to wield it for power

the Triforce split and he only gained the Triforce of power.

Sheik explains the remaining two pieces of the Triforce

rest with those who resonate with

the virtues of wisdom and courage.

For the last seven years, Ganondorf has desperately

sought to complete the Triforce.

Through the valor shown along his journey,

Link conveniently possesses the Triforce of courage.

Then to complete the shocking twist,

Sheik confesses her identity, Princess Zelda.

Who happens to be the final sage and wielder

of the Triforce of wisdom.

She imparts Link with light arrows.

Suddenly Ganondorf uses his magic to capture Zelda.

He mocks Link for getting Zelda to reveal

where she's been been hiding all this time.

Link heads for Ganon's Castle.

He scales the millions of stairs,

seriously this castle has hardly any rooms,

just stairs that lead to more stairs.

And confronts Ganondorf.

They clash, powered by their respective Triforce pieces,

Link defeats Ganondorf and Zelda is released.

But there's no time to celebrate

as Ganondorf uses his dying breath to bring

the castle down on top of them.

Link and Zelda manage to escape

just before the castle collapses.

As they leave the castle grounds Ganondorf

bursts forth from the rubble to use

the Triforce of power to transform into Ganon,

a mammoth pig demon.

Ganon knocks the master sword away from Link.

Forcing him to fight with either a giant hammer

or a massive sword that dwarfs the Master Sword,

he probably should've used from the start.

Link reclaims the Master Sword

and knocks Ganon into submission.

Zelda calls upon the power of the seven sages

to seal Ganon away the second Link can use the final blow.

Ganondorf vows he will one day get

his revenge on their descendants,

but that will never happen.

With peace restored to Hyrule,

Link controls the Master Sword to close the Door of Time

creating three alternate future timelines (bleeping),

the space time continuum, and time once again,

A child once again, Link heads off towards the (mumbling)

And that's the story (coughing)

of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

in three minutes.

I hope you guys enjoyed the video.

If you did look (mumbling) subscribe.

De Tel Aviv à Petra | Israel Coifman - Duration: 6:47.

10.187 quilometers

That's was the distance I cycled in 365 days

From South of Brazil until Bogotá, capital of Colombia.

Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador also were crossed, by bicycle.

Pushed by the body's power and the resilience of the mind

the borders was left behind

And also mountains,

amazing landscapes

and unforgettable stories.

The challenge of crossing and feeling South America by bicycle, was done.

And now the adventure continues, in the other half of the planet.

Presents

Bike touring

From Tel Aviv to Petra

Almost 20 hours among flights and connections until Tel Aviv,

financial and tech center of Israel.

Country by the Mediterranean Sea with beach culture as in Brazil.

And it was a big temptation stay here for awhile in this summer.

With or without a bicycle is needful a visit to the capital Jerusalem.

But the traditional and modern Middle East country

was chosen as departure place to get into one of the arab neighbours.

Jordan is a muslim country located in Middle East

and has borders with Syria, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Irak

Despite it situated in a region known for conflicts and wars

Jordan is recognised as a safe haven

and very good for bicycle touring.

Place of archeology sites and ruins from the Roman and Nabatean empires

Jordan is famous for proudly keep one of the seven wonders of the world: Petra.

But to get there by bike is not easy.

Steep mountains and a desert. There is a very dry desert to cross.

From the Israeli border, above the Jordan River, it was the first big uphill

until Irbid, the second biggest city of the country.

In the way to Amman, the capital, there is the village of Jerash

known for one of the most preserved roman structures outside from Italy.

The monochromatic Amman is as an ordinary big city.

Traffic, noise, chaos.

Everything that a bike traveler don't like.

But it has some charm.

This roman amphitheater is located in the heart of the center.

It's one of the main attractions.

And the King Abdullah I Mosque

with their turquoise dome has to be visited.

From 1100 meters of altitude down to 300 under the sea where is the Dead Sea.

Well, the Dead Sea is a very large salt lake and not a sea

and it's the lower place in the earth.

The downhill until there is fantastic, but the way up is terrific hard.

The way to Petra, in the south, follow the steep pace of the mountains.

But it worth every drop of sweat.

The main attraction in Jordan was carved in rocks

And established by the Nabateans around 300 BC.

but is not a bad idea going back for a second and also a third day of visit.

The archeology site is huge.

Different of the beliefs of many

travel to Israel, Jordan and even others Middle East Countries is pretty safe.

At least in these 2 countries, the heat is one of the biggest risks.

During the summer, the temperatures can hit 50 degrees (C) in the desert

and the risk of dehydration is real.

Brazilians don't need visa for Israel (3 months of permit)

and the Jordanian visa can be arranged at the border (1-2 months).

Leaving Tel Aviv and getting to Jordan through north border

The trip until Aqaba, in the south end

Is around 715 km of cycling.

At this time, I didn't cycle too much around Israel

but I deeply recommend to enjoy the roads, beaches,

historical and tourist attractions and the Israeli gastronomy.

Cycling here is cool. There is a lot of bike lanes

and the drivers use to be respectful to the cyclists.

After all, in Israel, Jordan or wherever else

Get to the road, respect the rules and local traditions

And just pedal!
