Hi guys, today I'm going to be doing my
first ever book unhaul. I never, ever get
rid of books because basically a few
years ago, I essentially had a bad
breakup with books and I kind of got rid
of all the books I owned. Which wasn't a
lot of books but it was enough for me to
almost immediately regret it and since
then I just have not gotten rid of a
single book but the problem is I still
buy books. So my shelves are kind of
getting a little bit overloaded and I've
just ended up with the load of books,
that I now know that I just don't think
I will read or just don't want or just
don't need on my shelves. So I've decided to
finally bite the bullet and just get rid
of some books, so that is what I'm going
to do today. I'm only actually getting
rid of two books that I have already
read. All of the other books I'm getting
rid of, are books that are on my TBR, that for
some reason or another, I just don't
think I'm going to read anymore or just
don't want anymore but the first book
that I have already read, that I am
deciding to unhaul is 'Allegiant' by
Veronica Roth and as I said, I've already
read this. I pre-ordered it when it first
came out. I was super excited for it.
In the end, I didn't end up loving it all
that much but because I pre-ordered it,
when it first came out, it meant that I got
it in hardback and my first two books
and this trilogy are in paperback and it
has been irritating me for years. Since
the moment I owned this book, it has been a
burden and it's just annoyed me so much
that I haven't had the complete kind of
paperback series. But the other day I
finally found a copy of this in
paperback, in the charity shop for 50p
and I decided to get it. So I do not need
two copies of it and I can finally get
rid of this massive, chunky book. Which I
haven't actually even read because I
ended up listening to it on audiobook instead.
So I'm finally getting rid of this.
And then the other book that I've
read that I'm also going to get rid of,
is 'My Favourite Manson Girl' or
'American Girls' by Alison Umminger and there are
two reasons why I'm getting rid of this.
The first is that I really, really did
not like this book and I'm not going to
get into why now because I feel as
though if I get started, I just will not
be able to stop ranting but I do have a
full review for it. So I will leave a
link to that in the description box
below if you would like to know, why I
did not like this book. Although I will
warn you that it's kind of a slightly
ranty review but also because I have
two copies of this book and I just do
not need two copies of a book that I
really, really didn't enjoy and I have
the UK edition, which is this and then
also the US Edition, which is 'American Girls' and I prefer
the cover of that and the only reason I'm
going to keep that, is because I think
I may possibly want to talk about it at
some point in the future. So I'm keeping
that but I'm definitely, definitely
getting rid of this because I just do
not want two copies of this book.
Next I'm unhauling 'All This Has Nothing To Do With Me'
by Monica Sabolo and I have
picked this up multiple times. I've tried to
read it so many times and for some
reason, I just cannot get into it at all.
So I'm going to donate it and hopefully
someone that buys it will enjoy it and
appreciate it a lot more than me because
some reason, this book just is not for me at all.
I'm then also going to get rid of
'Monstrous Affections' by Kelly link and
Gavin J. Grant. I've had this on my shelves
for probably over a year now and I've never
even once considered picking it up and I
think that is a good indication that I
probably shouldn't have it on my shelves
anymore. And this is a collection of kind
of creepy short stories and it sounds
interesting but I've just not ever been
inclined to pick it up. So I'm going to
get rid of it. Next I have 'Me Before You'
by Jojo moyes and I've not read this but
I watched the movie and I really enjoyed
the movie and I was going to read
this after watching movie but after
watching it, I then found out how
problematic it is and how hurtful it has
been to some people and I just can't see
myself investing any time into reading
this and I just don't really want to.
If I ever did decide to read this for some
reason, I will have no trouble finding it
because around me there are at least 10
copies in every single charity shop.
I just cannot ever see myself reading this.
Despite the fact that I did enjoy the
movie, I just feel a bit weird then
investing more time into reading the
book. I'm then also going to get rid of
two books of virgo horoscopes for 2015
and last year I had a moment where I
thought, I might want to get into
horoscopes and I therefore bought two
books on Virgo horoscopes but I bought
them for 2015 in 2016. So already I was
off to an incredibly bad start and there
was absolutely no reason for me to own
these and yet it is 2017 and I still
have them. I have no idea what my
horoscope was meant to be like for 2015.
But I don't really care to know now.
So I'm going to get rid of them.
Along similar lines to why I've gotten rid of
'Me Before You'. I've also decided to unhaul
'The One Memory of Flora Banks' by Emily Barr.
And this has been called out for being
quite problematic and also just being quiet ableist,
towards people that struggle with memory
loss and I've also heard that this just
isn't that great. I haven't heard that many
good reviews for it and I only recently
picked this up. I think I bought this a
couple of months ago but I've just lost any
desire to read it really and I have so
many books on my shelves that I really,
really want to read. So I don't really
want to invest my time into something
that one, is potentially extremely
problematic and also has just not had very
good reviews. I then have 'The Last Photograph'
by Emma Chapman and I'm not
going to get rid of this, get rid of it.
I'm just giving it to my mum because I
just don't think this is something that
I'm going to be interested in reading
but I have a feeling it might be
something my mum would like. If she
doesn't, I'm sure then we'll donate it but
I'm going to give this to her and see
what she thinks about it and then see
how it goes but I just don't need it on
my shelves anymore because I cannot see
myself reading this. Despite the fact that
it sounds interesting, I just don't think
it's really for me. Next I have
'Captain America: Allies and Enemies' and the only
reason I bought this in the first place,
is because I just got super over excited
about the fact that I could find a
Marvel comic book, for only £3.50.
And I just have no idea what this is.
I don't know what volume it is. I have no idea what series this is a part of
and I just can't see myself reading it.
It has the most awful reviews on
Goodreads. So I'm just going to get rid
of it because I just know that I will
never, ever read it because I've now got
so many comic books that I do really
want to read. And the last book I'm
unhauling is 'This Lullaby' by Sarah Dessen
and I'm somewhat undecided on whether or
not I want to get rid of this. I'm pretty
certain that I do, because I've had this
on my shelf for absolutely ages and I
don't think I've ever really, properly
considered picking it up but every time
I read the summary for it, it sounds interesting
and it sounds like something something I might
enjoy and it has somewhat good reviews.
But I just think I need to kind of bite
the bullet and go, you know what, I'm not
going to read this. I just can't really
see myself reading it. Unless you've read it
and you think it's absolutely fantastic
and would definitely recommend it. Then I
might change my mind but I think I'm
probably, most likely, going to be
unhauling this. So those are all of the books
that I'm unhauling today and I would
absolutely love to know if you have any
recommendations or advice for getting
rid of problematic books. Because I
would just automatically donate all of
these books to charity but I don't want
the ones that are problematic to then
end up in the hands of someone that
could be indirectly, or directly hurt or harmed by those
books and I just don't know what to do
with them because I just feel super
uncomfortable just throwing them
straight out. But also at the same time, I
just don't want them anymore. So I'm not
entirely sure what to do with those. So
if you have any advice on that, I would
really, really appreciate it. And also, if
you get rid of books regularly, I would
love to know because I want to feel more
comfortable getting rid of books and let
me know, which was the last book you got
rid of. I will leave the links to my
Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Goodreads, Blog and
Snapchat, in the description box below.
So feel free to follow me on any of
those if you would like and I just hope
you're having the most wonderful day. Bye!
