The design of Olympic Games Logos | Design Focus - Duration: 7:04.
(DESIGN FOCUS)
(OLYMPIC LOGO DESIGN)
(DESIGN CHALLENGE)
(CREATE A UNIQUE LOGO DESIGN)
(THAT REPRESENTS BOTH THE HOST CITY AND THE OLYMPIC BRAND)
(KNOWN FOR)
(BOLD DESIGN CHOICES THAT OFTEN SET THE TONE)
(FOR THE ENTIRE DESIGN PROGRAMME)
(DESIGN FOCUS)
You want your hosting of the world to feel worthy.
There are so many deliverables within the Games,
there are so many, that if you start thinking of that upfront,
you will be paralysed.
All we could think of was,
let's get everybody to agree on a agree on a mark.
Because that identity has to work on everything.
It has to be stitched, televised,
it has to be functional in every possible capacity.
The identity becomes the linchpin
for thousands of individual design projects.
It connects everything from the mascots
to the sports pictograms,
to the theme of the Games.
And ultimately reflects what the story is.
This emblem should be global look.
Not only a small, Japanese community kind of image,
because it's a history.
Olympic Games is a history,
for every country.
You want to promote your country,
but you also have to keep in mind
that this is a gathering of the world.
Too much ra-ra for your country needs to be played back,
just a little bit in it. But it still, at the same time,
needs to expose your culture.
And it still needs to talk to your own legacy
and your own heritage.
If you look at the Athens logo that was ultimately selected,
it was that crown of laurel leaves on the blue background.
It very much relates back to Greek culture.
It picked up on all those connotations and touch points
and really kind of helped people look at it and go
"Oh, OK. Well, it's not Switzerland."
Rio is a wonderful example.
People in a circle, holding their hands,
And at the same time
showing the mountain from Rio,
that is a symbol of the city,
and bring all this together in the colours of the country.
This is the essence of what a logo could be.
As far as Sochi was concerned
it's quite an interesting geography, where it is
the mountains literally come down to the lake.
And, actually, when you look at the final logo,
it is actually a reflection.
.ru was indicative of the that time we are in,
in terms of the Games itself were going to be
more digitally recorded than any other Games previously.
We needed to make sure not only that we were celebrating
the city itself in the mark,
but then the wider vocabulary,
which celebrated the patterns and the cultures of Russia.
This is where it became national.
For a lot of people, when we think of Mexico,
of course we think of great athletes
that were the stars of this edition,
but at the same time, we have in mind the emblem
and all that was created by Lance Wyman.
Ramirez Vasquez said,
"We don't want to do anything that looks like a Mexican
"sleeping under a cactus with his sombrero pulled down."
He said, "That's not Mexico now,
"and we want to develop a contemporary programme."
Now, growing up here in New York,
I didn't know much about... I know they had pinatas,
but I didn't know much about the culture at all.
So, the first week we spent
over at the museum of anthropology.
And when I started getting in touch
with the history of Mexico City,
I mean, it was amazing.
I was like a kid in a toy box,
It was just incredible.
Lance worked with other great Mexican designers,
and gave himself over to this entire culture,
and allowed it to sort of just flow through him.
And it came out beautifully.
There had been a tradition, in recent Games,
of doing a competition.
That's the route we took, where we basically
asked designers across the country and around the world
to participate and provided a brief about
what we wanted the Games to be all about.
This idea of welcoming the world,
and the warmth of Canadians,
was perfectly distilled into this emblem that we selected,
which was of an inuksuk.
Inuksuk being rock structures
that the Inuit people of the north used
as a means of communicating with others.
The Olympic committee in Barcelona,
they made the briefing.
The symbol or the logo has to represent the city
that's Mediterranean,
colourful, that is dynamic,
that has always believed in sport.
And I said, "OK."
I said, "Well, this is something.
"I don't know. It's a jump."
And I said, "OK, it's a jump.
"It's the jump that they want for Barcelona."
Barcelona wasn't known.
At that time, it had very little international influence.
So this is the launching of Barcelona as a city.
I love Salt Lake because the patchwork of the symbol
looked like an American Indian symbol.
You see a snow-capped mountain,
crossed skis,
you see a sunset,
you see a Native American symbol,
and you see in reverse, a snowflake.
And then Nagano.
It looks like a bursting snow flower
against a mountain top that was snow-capped.
And each one of the petals is representation
of an Olympic event.
A downhill skier, the luge, a ski jump.
But the other thing that was really kind of wonderful
was that, in many respects, it looks like a burst.
And Nagano is the home of fireworks.
At the closing ceremony, they were able to produce fireworks
that would burst out in that Nagano symbol.
With Atlanta, it was a 100th year centennial.
The symbol's a torch on one inspection.
When you look closer, you see the 100,
and part of the flame are stars,
which represent the athletes.
And the top part of the flame is a perfect gold star,
which reaches perfection.
The whole concept of what the Olympics stands for
is coming together and celebrating perfection
and achievement.
And being a part of that was extremely exciting.
The gold star,
the Olympic medal for the designer,
is seeing it happen,
getting it produced, being able to be a part of it.

DC Superhero Girls™
-------------------------------------------
New Release Tuesday: May 29, 2018 - Duration: 7:15.
Hi everyone. I'm rincey and i am one of the contributing editors over at book riot.
I am back to do another new released Tuesday video and today I'm
talking about books that come out on Tuesday, May 29th. So first up I have
Calypso by David Sedaris. David Sedaris is a pretty well-known author. At this
point, I'm pretty sure most people have at least given him a try and know his
sense of humor. So if you are a David Sedaris fan, he has a new book out.
This book is being described as beach reading for people who detest beaches, which I am
here for. When David Sedaris buys a beach house along the Carolina coast,
he imagines these long relaxing vacations where he spends his days playing board
games with the people that he loves. And life at his vacation home is exactly
what he imagined it would be like, except for one major fact: you can't take a
vacation from yourself. So David Sedaris is known for writing
these really humorous essay collections. And, like I said, if you haven't given
David Sedaris a try yet, you definitely should. He has a very specific type of
sense of humor but if his sense of humor works for you, then basically all of his
books will work for you. So again that is Calypso and that is out today. Next I
have our sponsor for this video and that is flatiron books who are putting out
Legendary by Stephanie Garber. This is the sequel to Caraval, which came out I
believe last year and was a huge young adult fantasy debut. After being swept up
in the magical world of Caraval, donatella dragna has finally escaped her
father and saved her sister from a horrible arranged marriage. The girls
should be celebrating but Tella isn't yet free.
She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal and the time has
come to pay her debt. So like I mentioned this is the sequel to Caraval and if you
haven't checked that one out yet and you enjoy a young adult fantasy, this is one
that got so much buzz. And so book 2 is out today. So next up I have a memoir for
you guys and one with a swear word. So I have to abbreviate it. And that is so
close to being the sh--, y'all don't even know by Retta. Yeah I'm just gonna
abbreviate it like that because I can't swear in these videos. So this is a brand
new essay collection from Retta who is an actress and it's probably best
well-known for playing Donna on Parks and Recreation. She's also
on a new TV show I think that NBC that I can't remember the name of right now.
In this essay collection, Retta takes us on her not so meteoric rise, roaches to
riches. And by riches she means being able to afford $15,000 designer handbags
but knowing she's just one step away from ramen with American cheese.
She talks about how she was originally planning on going to med school and
graduated from Duke University. But then threw her parents for a loop
when she decided she wanted to pursue stand-up comedy. She went and won comedy
central's stand-up comedy competition. But then after that she struggled to find
work as many actresses do but especially actresses of color and actresses who
look like Retta often and don't get cast very often. And so she talks about just
what she did trying to survive in Hollywood as well as just some of the
crazy stories that she has from when she was a celebrity. If you follow Rhetta on
Twitter, you already have a sense of what her style is like. And so I feel like
this is one of those memoirs where it's like if you like the actress then you're
going to like the memoir as well. So if you are a fan of Retta, definitely pick
this one up. Next up I have the death of mrs. westaway by Ruth Ware. Ruth Ware
is well known for writing her mysteries and thrillers. She wrote in a dark dark
wood, the woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game, and this is her latest. On a day
that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her
a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to
the wrong person but also that the cold reading skills
she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon Hal finds
herself at the funeral of the deceased where she realizes that there is
something very wrong and very strange about the situation and the inheritance
around it. So Ruth Ware has been described as sort of like a modern-day
Agatha Christie. She writes these really interesting mysteries that do some
really interesting things. Like they're not necessarily psychological thrillers
or anything like that but they are sort of these slow burns that have really
interesting reveals. So if you are a fan of Ruth Ware or if you haven't given
her a shot yet she has a new one out today and again that's called the death
of mrs. westaway. Alright, next up I have front desk by Kelly Yang
and this is a middle-grade novel. And I'll be completely honest, this one
originally caught my attention because I think the cover is really fantastic.
But the story itself also sounds really interesting once I read the synopsis.
Mia Tang has a lot of secrets. Number one, she lives in a motel and not a big house.
Every day while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, she mans the front desk
of the motel and tends to its guests. Number two, her parents hide immigrants.
And if the mean motel owner finds out that they have been letting people stay
in the empty rooms for free, the tangs will be doomed. Number three, she wants to
be a writer. But how can she when her mom thinks that she should stick to math and
not English since it is not her first language. It will take all of Mia's
courage, kindness, and hard work to be able to get through this year. Will she
be able to hold on to her job, help the immigrants as well as the guests escape
from Mr. Yao who owns the motel and be able to follow her dreams? So this just
sounds like a really sweet late elementary, early middle school sort of
book. So if you are a fan of books in that age range or you have kids either
of your own or in your life who you think would enjoy this, again, that's
called front desk by Kelly Yang. Finally I have they come in all colors by
Malcolm Hansen. This is a debut novel that follows a biracial boy who finds
new life in the big city but is disrupted by childhood memories of a
racial tension in his hometown. It's 1968 when 14-year old Huey Fairchild begins
a school at this elite New York City prep school. His mother had uprooted
their family from this small town in Georgia
leaving behind Huey's white father and the racial unrest that was happening
there. But for our sharp-tongued protagonist, forgetting the past is
easier said than done. At Claremont where the only other non-white person in the
building is seems to be a janitor, Huey quickly realizes that racism can also be
hidden under these nice uniforms. After a momentary slip of anger Huey finds
himself on academic probation and potentially facing legal charges.
With his promising school career in limbo, he begins examining his current predicament
at his school through the lens of his childhood memories of growing up in
Georgia during the civil rights movement and the chilling moments leading up to
his mother's flight north. So this sounds like a
really interesting coming-of-age novel that takes a very unique point of view
at racism and looks at things from both a southern and northern lens and how
racism can take a bunch of different forms. And again that's called they come
in all colors. So those are all the books that I have for you guys this week. Feel
free to leave a comment down below letting me know what you plan on picking
up, whether it's one of these books or another book coming out today that you
are excited about. Otherwise I will see you guys again next Tuesday for another
new release video. Bye.

bringing you guys a graphic design tutorial or a video every single Tuesday
that's based around typography design if you want to skip the intro moved the
timecard in the corner to jump right into today's tutorial now last week on
typography Tuesday's I showed you guys my new fun I made myself script Satori
and also showed you how to use font self to actually generate a font file of um
artwork but today I'm going to show you guys how to make the artwork itself with
two different methods in Adobe Illustrator so follow along and jump
into my tutorial today here at typography Tuesday on how to design your
artwork for your very own font in two different methods
this is the first method of creating your very entire graph you are working
in the ability straighter in involves the use of a Wacom tablet or any drawing
tablet for that matter if you don't have a drawing table where you simply don't
want to listen to this method skipped the timecard in the corner for the
second method in today's tutorial you want to plot the rule is to access the
guides and to do this press command will control I and then simply drag the
guides down to fit your hand lettering topography into you can adjust the color
of your guides as well as them being dots or lines in the illustrator
preferences right here if you right to control click the artboard you can lock
and hide the guides if you feel that you need to we are going to be creating a
calligraphy brush for a typography artwork so go ahead and open up the
brushes window here a lot of these settings will be personal preference to
you and your hand lettering for the third and final setting should be set to
pressure so when you press harder on the drawing tablet the line will become
thicker this is essential for some quality hand lettering typography
artwork now these settings might take some time
to experiment with and to get right when you already take the tablet pen and
start drawing your lettering between the guides if you feel this headings are not
right go into the brushes window and double click the brush here
you can then adjust the settings and once you're ready apply them to the
current stroke I will just draw some more hand lettering to show you how the
Tidy of the letters after generating them I forgot to bring down the guide
with the ascender which will represent the higher stretch our letters like
before you can write or control click to hide unlock or lock the guides your
lettering is now a stroke instead of a vector path and if you want to edit the
lettering fully we want to outline the stroke which will enable us to
manipulate the data path once you have outlined the stroke you'll probably see
overlapping areas on your typography artwork which needs to be tidied up
simply access the Pathfinder window and then use the align option on each
individual letter secondly we can go into the simplify option here and click
preview to see real-time changes it's always better to have a little anchor
points as possible on your typography whilst keeping the general shape of your
lettering
press a on your keyboards access a direct selection tool which would allow
you to move anchor points around and stretch out the handles furthering your
manipulation of your typography people have asked me how do I get large anchor
points well if you have illustrator CC you can adjust the size of our anchor
points in the preferences which can be very handy indeed
lastly the amazing smooth tool be very handy indeed for you to edit typography
you need to locate the smooth tool and then select the lettering with the
selection tool and then click back onto the smooth tool carefully smoothing out
the lettering or click an anchor point over and over again take your time to
utilize these techniques to make your very own typography artwork in the
illustration so that was the first method on how you can design artwork for
your very own font using a debut illustrator we're going to be going into
the second method now and also let me know in the comment section below which
one these methods you find more useful and which one do you think you'd use to
make your own funds and also of course have you enjoyed today's tutorial drop a
like and also subscribe if you haven't already to Satori graphics for weekly
graphic design content the second method of making your very own typographic
artwork uses a pen tool I'm going to show you how to create fluid and
professional typography using the pen tool to begin you might want to maybe
draw out your typography onto a sheet of paper then scan or snap a picture and
upload it to illustrator as a template to do around for the purposes of today's
video let's say this letter on screen here is actually something I created and
mocked up onto paper and uploaded its illustrator
you can of course these image trace function but I feel it's very useful to
know how to use the pen tool in a professional way to make typography
here I have a calligraphy style letter locked down as a template to draw around
you can press ctrl or command I to open up the rulers and then we need to use
vertical horizontal guides the place just where the letter touches when we
use the pen tool we can use the tricks and techniques that we've just covered
at 90 degrees angles but never use 45 degree for typography I will show you
what I mean now so carefully place your guides just touching the letter 90
degree angles
with the pen tool click but with Alt + Shift held down and then drag our handle
in the direction that you want to head
never bring the handle pass you're posing guide so in this point here I
will not move it pass to guide on the right you now have a curve line to which
you can move to the next point hold down shift M if you click and drag to make
the handles keeping things in 90 degrees angles the entire time we can use alt to
adjust the handle curves taking our time to be precise with everything shifts
will help keep things level also from the new point to repeat the process of
holding down alt and shift together and then drag our handle and then make the
new point if you carry on with this technique carefully you'll be able to
draw out perfectly smooth and crisp lines using the pen to an illustrator
it does take some time to get used to but it is the most methodical and best
way to work with a pencil when creating lines illustrator especially for
typography such as this practice this technique and master the pencil with
typography
so there is today's video on two different ways that you can make your
very amar work for a fun design using a de Beulah straighter i showcase to you
two different techniques today but which one did you think was the more useful
and a more practical method for making a font using euro my work for me
personally i prefer just to get out the Wacom tablet and just freehand draw and
then take the tools from Adobe Illustrator to kind of smoothing
everything out and finalize it but this is a contrast to how I used to be I used
to actually like to draw my font out on paper then you know as I showed you
upload it to illustrator and then use the pen tool to go over it you know I do
think you have mastered the pen tool to actually do that method I don't know
we're not all amazing at using the pen tool I know I certainly wasn't for a
very long time so that's why I showed you two methods today in satara graphics
typography Tuesday's video I'm actually working on my subscription-based website
at the moment where next month I'm going to launch a website that you can pay
monthly to for a small fee or you can actually save money and pay for an
annual fee but it's going to be courses graphic design vectors it available for
download updated every single month so if you left my teaching style and the
videos I make here you might want to consider sliding up to my courses and my
graphic design downloads on a monthly basis coming hopefully next month I'm
gonna be making more in-depth tutorials and more in-depth courses on things such
as the pen tool and other aspects of graphic design I'm gonna be back on
Thursday with more graphic design content and also on to Friday as I
usually do here to tour graphics with for graphic design uploads as always let
me know in the comment section below what you think of today's video and my
channel in general I always love reading your comments and trying to improve
myself as a content creator and even as a graphic designer
but in you guys until next time design your future today peace

Measure Cosmic Rays from your Desktop! - Duration: 8:51.
Every hour of every day, a thin cosmic rain of charged particles collides with the earth's
atmosphere, some of which eventually reaches the surface.
Until recently, observing and measuring cosmic radiation was the domain of physicists
in fancy laboratories.
But now, thanks to a group of scientists at MIT and the National Centre for Nuclear Research
in Warsaw, even a dork in the garage like me can be a citizen particle physicist.
Hey I'm Grady and this is Practical Engineering.
Today we're building a Muon Detector.
This video was sponsored by XOD - more on that later.
Behold the CosmicWatch Desktop Muon Detector - or at least the pieces of one.
This project was designed as an education tool for a "novice high school student,"
so I'm a little bit outside of my skill level.
But, who am I to deny you the incongruity a civil engineer soldering tiny components
to a circuit board while talking about cosmic radiation?
Before we get into the engineering behind the device, first we need to know a little
bit about cosmic rays (or at least our current understanding of them, because there is still
a lot of mystery behind their origin).
Spread throughout our galaxy, and indeed the entire universe, are stars.
On occasion, those stars explode creating supernovae, and when they do, they eject a
tremendous amount of interstellar material, also known as star stuff.
This material is traveling so quickly that it generates a shock wave of superheated plasma.
These shockwaves are believed to be the origin of most of the universe's comic rays.
The superheated plasma accelerates the particles to unimaginable speeds, and some eventually
reach the earth.
When they slam into the earth's atmosphere, they produce a slew of secondary particles
with crazy names like pions and kaons that eventually decay into muons that can survive
the trip through the atmosphere and even penetrate into the earth's crust.
Scientists observe and measure muons and other cosmic radiation to learn more about the universe
with fantastically complex and expensive equipment, but this detector opens that door to any student
or citizen with a soldering iron and a good magnifying glass.
As fun as it is to dive into particle physics, the coolest part of the CosmicWatch project
is the engineering.
The device uses interesting components and clever circuity to make it possible to detect
and count these cosmic rays.
And it all starts with the scintillator, a piece of plastic with a very special ability
to absorb the energy of a radiation particle and re-emit that energy as light.
As a muon passes through the scintillator, a burst of light is created.
It's not enough to see with the naked eye, but it can be detected by the attached photomultiplier,
which is essentially a super-sensitive solar panel capable of measuring even just a single
photon.
The photomultiplier converts the burst of light from the scintillator into an electric
signal.
But, this signal is extremely short - less than a microsecond - which is hard to detect.
The CosmicWatch uses an Arduino to measure the signal, but it can only take a measurement
about once every 6 microseconds.
You can see how easy it would be for the arduino to miss the Muon pulses.
So the CosmicWatch includes a peak detector circuit to amplify and stretch out the signal
so that it can be detected by the arduino.
This shot from the oscilloscope shows the output from the peak detector in yellow.
If I zoom in on the time scale, you can see how short the actual pulse from the photomultiplier
was.
Once the arduino detects a pulse, it sends a signal to this LED to let you know.
The arduino can count the amplitude and number of pulses to measure the average detection
rate, it can record each pulse on a memory card, and it can even send the data over USB
to your computer.
I built two detectors, which makes it possible to measure the direction of a particle and
helps eliminate false triggers from other types of radiation.
When operated in coincidence, a muon is only recorded if it was detected by both devices
at the same time.
In this shot, the bottom detector is the slave which only blinks if it detects a muon at
the same time as the master above.
Now that the detectors are assembled and working, it's time to do some science, and there
is a lot of science that can be done here.
This is such a great educational tool, because the measurements are so simple.
Most of the experiments you can do are really asking the same question: does this particular
parameter affect the rate and or intensity of cosmic rays detected?
Spencer published some very cool experiments he used to test out the detector, including
how the rate changes at ground level vs. down in a mine and how much the detection rate
increases during a flight on an airline.
But, you know how much I like to make cool graphs, so I also designed a few of my own
experiments to test out.
First I know that Muon formation happens in the atmosphere, and I also know that some
atmospheric properties like temperature and stability change through the course of the
day.
So I hypothesized that there might be a measurable difference in muon detection between day and
night.
To test this out, I left the detectors running in the same spot for 24 hours.
I started the count at 6:30am when I left for work and reset at 8:00pm to leave it overnight.
The rates and measured intensities were almost identical, suggesting that, if there is a
difference in detection rate between day and night, it is only a small effect.
The null hypothesis prevails.
Next I wanted to test how the direction affected the detection rate.
You can leave these detectors blinking on your desk, but it's still hard to imagine
the cosmic rays passing through your personal space if you don't know what direction they're
coming from.
My guess was that most would come from directly overhead because it's the most direct path
through the atmosphere.
I set up the detectors one on top of each other for a day, then side by side for a second
day.
My results agreed with Spencer's that the detection rate from side to side was about
half of that from straight up.
This chart shows the probability that a muon would exceed a certain amplitude, and you
can see that the measurements from the horizon had more low-energy detections than from straight
overhead.
My last experiment, obviously, needed to be related to concrete because I said I was going
to keep making videos about concrete and then made a muon detector instead.
My hypothesis was that layers of concrete would provide some shielding and attenuate
the detection rate.
So, I left the detectors in coincidence mode running in my car and parked on a different
level of the parking garage at work for three days.
Measuring only the particles coming from straight up, there was a small but obvious reduction
in the detection rate for each layer of concrete in the parking garage above my car.
I love this project because it takes something that is not just invisible, but maybe unknown
to most people, and makes it so tangible and approachable.
If you're an educator, this is an awesome tool for exploring the scientific method because
the experimental design is fairly simple, the data collection is easy, and the subject
matter is fascinating.
Huge thanks to Spencer and the other folks associated with CosmicWatch who developed
this awesome device and helped me with this video.
Check out the link to their website in the description.
Thank you for watching, and let me know what you think!
Getting started in electronics can be intimidating at first.
If you're using microcontroller boards in your projects like the Arduino in the Muon
Detector, you not only have to learn about circuits but also about writing code.
With XOD, you don't need to be a programmer to use a microcontroller.
With its visual programming language and well-written tutorials, you can get started on awesome
projects with almost no learning curve.
Building programs visually with nodes makes controlling your electronics projects fun.
XOD is open source, and best of all, it's completely free.
To get started, go to XOD.io or just click the link in the description below.
Thank you for watching and let me know what you think!

What Does It Take To Have A Constitutional Crisis | Ron's Office Hours | NPR - Duration: 2:54.
Just what does it take to have a constitutional crisis?
"This could precipitate a constitutional crisis."
"... prompting a constitutional crisis."
"... a major constitutional crisis."
"Constitutional crisis"
"Constitutional crisis"
You could say that the Constitution is something of an owners manual for taxpayers.
And like a lot of owners manuals, it can lead to a lot of frustration.
Among the things the Constitution doesn't have is a precise legal definition
of constitutional crisis.
And so the phrase constitutional crisis is meant to mean a moment when
the Constitution is not enough to resolve a question or a conflict
or a confrontation or an uncertainty.
And this can happen for several reasons.
One -- The Constitution is silent on a given subject.
For example, the original Constitution didn't say how many times a president could be re-elected.
But after FDR had been elected to a fourth term,
the Constitution was amended to say
"twice is enough."
Two -- If the Constitution is ambiguous,
it leaves open a question,
like the original Constitution
left open the questions of slavery and secession.
That's how we got the Civil War.
Three -- There can be lively disagreement
about what the Constitution's language actually means.
The disagreement can be between different branches of the government --
say, between Congress and the courts,
or between one of those two and the president.
We saw a dramatic example of this in the Watergate era,
when President Nixon fired a special
prosecutor who was looking into his re-election campaign.
He could do that because the special prosecutor was working in the Justice Department's authority,
and that department is part of the executive branch.
But then the judicial branch, the court system, stepped in when a judge ruled that the firing
of the special prosecutor was illegal.
That could have been a constitutional crisis, but the courts persisted, upheld the original
ruling all the way to the Supreme Court,
and the Congress sided with the courts and began
impeachment proceedings.
When a confrontation finally arose over the tapes that had been made in the president's
Oval Office, the Supreme Court ruled he had to turn them over, and shortly thereafter
President Nixon resigned.
Crisis averted.
Calming the storm of a constitutional crisis has often required the willingness of the
combatants to negotiate peace.
The ultimate constitutional crisis would come
if one side or the other were unwilling to budge.
For now, at NPR, I'm Ron Elving.
Thanks for coming to my office hours.

Class Clown by Robert Munsch Read Aloud by Books Read Aloud For Children - Duration: 6:17.
Class Clown.
By Robert Munsch.
Illustrated by Michael Martchenko.
When Leonardo was a baby, his mother laughed all the time.
She said, "This baby is sooooo funny!"
When Leonardo was one year old, his grandma and grandpa laughed all the time.
They said, "This baby is sooooo funny!"
When Leonardo was three years old, EVERYONE laughed.
They said, "This kid is sooooo funny!"
When Leonardo was in grade one, the kids laughed all the time.
They said, "Leonardo is sooooo funny! He is our class clown."
But Mrs. Gomez said, "Leonardo, you have to stop!
The kids are laughing all the time, and nobody is learning.
STOP BEING FUNNY!"
"OK," said Leonardo, and for the first time in his whole life, he stopped being funny.
After one minute, Leonardo felt really strange.
After two minutes, he felt a little bit sick.
After three minutes, he started to chew his fingernails.
After four minutes, he started to rock back and forth in his seat.
After five minutes, he said,
"I know that Mrs. Gomez is really tired of me being the class clown, but I just HAVE to do something funny."
So Leonardo looked at the girl sitting next to him and made a funny face.
The girl didn't do anything.
So Leonardo made a really face, and the girl laughed so hard she fell off her chair and rolled around on the floor.
"Stop!" said Mrs. Gomez.
But the girl kept laughing.
"STOP!" yelled Mrs. Gomez, and finally the girl stopped laughing and got back in her seat.
"What is going on?" said Mrs. Gomez to the girl.
"I was thinking of something very funny," said the girl.
"No thinking in my class," said Mrs. Gomez.
"OK," said the girl. "I will never think again."
"Good!" said Mrs. Gomez.
Leonardo couldn't stop.
He said, "I know that Mrs. Gomez is really, really tired of me being the class clown,
and I will probably get in big trouble, but I just HAVE to do something else funny."
So Leonardo leaned over to the boy next to him and told a funny joke.
The boy didn't do anything.
So Leonardo leaned over again and told a really, really funny joke,
and the boy laughed so hard he fell off his chair, rolled around on the floor and kicked over his desk.
"Stop!" said Mrs. Gomez.
The boy kept rolling around on the floor.
"STOP!" yelled Mrs. Gomez.
"What is going on?"
"I remembered something very funny," said the boy.
"Well, don't remember anything in my class," said Mrs. Gomez.
"OK," said the boy.
"I will never remember anything again."
"Good!" said Mrs. Gomez.
Leonardo was OK till after lunch.
Then he said, "I know that Mrs. Gomez is really, really, really tired of me being the class clown,
and I will probably get in big trouble, but I just HAVE to do one last funny thing."
So while Mrs. Gomez was writing on the chalkboard,
Leonardo drew a funny picture and held it up so everyone could see it.
Nobody laughed.
So Leonardo drew a really, really, REALLY funny picture, held it up,
and all the kids in the class laughed so hard they fell off their chairs,
rolled around on the floor and knocked over their desks.
"STOP!" yelled Mrs. Gomez.
"What's going on?"
"It's Leonardo!" all the kids yelled.
"He's being the class clown."
"Leonardo," said Mrs. Gomez,
"I have told you to stop being a clown, and now I am getting really, really, REALLY mad!"
"OK!" said Leonardo.
"I will never, ever be funny again."
"HA!" said Mrs. Gomez,
and she laughed so hard she fell down, rolled around on the floor and kicked over her desk.
She said, "Leonardo, you are sooooo funny!"
And that was when Leonardo decided that when he grew up, he was going to be…

Melania Has HAD IT! Forced To Keep It - Duration: 19:38.
Melania Has HAD IT!
Forced To Keep It Quiet And Refuses To Anymore You Can't Stop Me
Without question, Melania Trump is one of our most elegant and impressive Frist Ladies
in recent decades.
She carries herself with poise and exudes genuine, quiet compassion for others.
Her exceptional qualities are often underestimated, simply because she's stunningly gorgeous
and married to liberal Americans' nemesis.
Melania is not the woman that the mainstream media and mass amount of haters have made
her out to be.
She's far better than that and after a year of enduring a silent struggle has now had
enough.
She's just made an impactful, yet unusual statement for her, considering that she usually
observes and listens more than she speaks.
This is a characteristic that is part of what makes her exceptional and elegant.
She knows you don't have to be loud, brash, and crass to make an impression and has restored
decorum in the public forum through her example.
She only speaks when she has something important to say or contribute and not just to be heard.
Now, is one of those times for our powerful first lady who has finally had enough.
She is saying what absolutely needs to be said after what has happened over the last
year.
Just because Melania is quiet, it does not mean she's weak, which she just proved by
calling out a big secret that's circulated about her for far too long.
According to Express:
Melania Trump, the wife of Donald Trump, President of the US, made a powerful speech aimed at
her critics saying they won't stop her from doing what she believes in.
The First Lady said she was committed to her anti-cyberbullying agenda.
As part of her First Lady commitment, she made a powerful speech saying she would not
allow criticism to affect her political work.
She said although she is facing tough criticism, it "will not stop" her from carrying out
her work in social media.
The former model is committed to tackling cyberbullying, a central concern of her public
agenda.
She made the speech during an event on cyber safety held at the White House, attended by
technology leaders from the likes of Facebook and Google.
In the speech, she said she had already been "criticised" for her involvement: "I'm
well aware that people are skeptical of me discussing this topic.
"I have been criticised for my commitment to tackling this issue and I know that will
continue."
However, she finished with a defiant statement that the criticism "will not stop me from
doing what is right."
She also spoke of her passion for the issue of cyber safety: "I receive many letters
from children who have been bullied or feel threatened on social media.
It's ironic and tragic that Melania is bullied by adults over her platform preventing children
from being bullied.
Leftists truly know no bounds and will stoop to the lowest level of depravity to destroy
a person who they simply don't agree with politically or don't like who they're
married to.
Melania's statements in her speech were powerful.
It's the first time she's really addressed the constant attacks she's endured from
people across the country which shows that she's confident, classy, and can't be
pushed around.
She doesn't respond to her detractors' every insult because she knows that's what
they want and she's more focused on important things, like helping people rather than talking
about them, than to give irrelevant imbeciles the attention they're seeking.
A real leader, such as herself, knows her worth, her power, influence, and that you
don't have to be loud and obnoxious to prove those
things
to anyone.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle OST - Like Morning Follows Night (Blake Belladonna's Theme) - Duration: 4:55.
You don't know what it's like to live in shadows,
Always regretting what you've done,
Spending time counting every little mistake,
Knowing it's always easier to run.
You don't have to spend your life looking backward.
We've been through this over and over again.
You can't just wish it away,
The past is the past, it'll never change.
That was before, this is now and when.
We have a chance to make it better if we try.
Oh, but I will not endanger one more friend.
You're free to do the things you want,
But listen, so am I.
I made my choice!
And now I'm making mine!
Go where you need to,
Know I won't leave you.
I'll follow you
Like Morning Follows Night.
You can run 'till your pain's through.
One thing I won't do,
Is to let you go alone to face the fight!
Hard to know where to turn when your life's a disaster,
Trying to start all over again.
So much shame, so much time that just feels wasted
Feeling like now could never make up for then.
Life's not a game you can play to get even.
We all make mistakes, but we need to move on.
I know that you hate where you strayed,
Forgiving yourself is the only way.
Just look ahead, yesterday is gone!
I know you think you're being selfless, but you're not.
I refuse to risk another's pain again.
The pain is when you shut me out,
And take off on your own.
No matter what, you'll never walk alone!
See, you'll never understand
What I feel, what I see,
What's going through my mind, how it feels being me.
All these struggles, all these fights,
Long days, longer nights,
Trying to search for this happiness lost in the light.
But it seems that it's all just out of my sight,
Just out of my reach, can't seem to get right.
Like I'm cursed with this turbulence placed in my life.
Can't push or pull it, stuck up in this bullpit,
Cycle of pain, all this stress in my brain,
I'm just trying to maintain, cause I'm goin' insane.
But no matter what I do, the cries go unheard.
Yet I still believe in you.
Every breath, every word,
Every smile, every glance,
It could be another chance
That you'll find to see, the love that is me.
So until that time, I'll follow every day,
Every step of the way, and continue to say
Go where you need to,
Know I won't leave you.
I'll follow you
Like Morning Follows Night.
You can run 'till your pain's through.
One thing I won't do,
Is let you go alone to face the fight!

CELINE DION in KOREA?! (Busan, Corée du Sud) | Alex & MJ - On the GO - Duration: 8:06.
This is not fun.
MJ is trying to get a foot massage.
Wassup people! How's it going?
Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whatever time it is for you right now!
Welcome to Busan!
Busan is a big city located South-East of the country.
Yep.
We got here this morning by train.
It took 2 and half hours and cost us 60$ each.
Hey! - Hey!
People are nice.
Behind me is Gam...Gamcheon... Gamcheon Village
which is a colorful village located in the mountains. It's nice.
So this is the first thing we're visiting in Busan.
We're not quite sure what the game plan is. Basically, we're going to be site seeing.
So we're bringing you with us site seeing.
Is that cool? I think that's cool.
Enjoy MJ! - Thank you, thank you!
What are we eating?
Unknown Korean food.
I have to say it with a smile because they're looking at me, but I hate it.
I really don't like it. - What is it?
It's not much. It's noodles
in very cold broth.
It's like eating frozen soup.
It's very fun.
I didn't take a bite yet but I really don't feel like it.
They're cold noodles.
Where's the fun in eating frozen soup?
They gave us dumplings.
Why?
I think they're trying to charm us.
I think they know we didn't like the soup.
This looks alright.
I think it's beef.
Yep, that's good.
I like dumplings.
I wonder,
when Koreans eat hot American soup,
do they like it or not?
It's only a question of culture.
Had we been brought up eating frozen soup, we would've liked this.
They really love it.
This was Marie-Josee Lalande's little think about it moment.
We're going to rent bikes. It's free.
You can rent bikes for free.
So we can ride around the beach for one or two hours. I'm not sure for how long actually.
But it's cool, it's free!
We like free things.
Two.
ID card or passport.
ID card or passport.
Two. Two bikes.
ID card... - ID card!
Come on MJ, ID card. ID card.
I didn't understand.
I think I have the small one and you have the big one.
Our bikes.
Good thing that i'm small.
We have two hours.
We have two hours and it's free. It's currently 4:20pm so we have until 6:20pm.
Little fun fact:
We we use to live in Toronto,
bicycles were how we got around.
When I moved from Ottawa to Toronto,
I sold my car
and traded it for a bike at Canadian Tire.
Good times. Good times.
Wassup?
I'm pulling a Casey Neistat.
I'm doing some inception here.
Very safe. Very safe.
Show me what's in your bag MJ.
It's a secret.
What is it, what is it, what is it?
Wine ?!
Wine !
It only cost us 3$
per bottle.
500ml.
I don't think it's going to taste good at all.
It smells like grapes.
Oh so it might just be grape juice.
16% grapes.
Concentrated.
Honestly, it's not bad! It really tastes like grapes!
For 3$, it's a steal.
We bought 2.
We bought 2.
One each.
It really smells like grape juice! I don't think there are any grapes in there!
Come on MJ. - It's only grape juice!
No, that's not possible.
We'll see if i'm drunk or not in an hour or so.
It says Wine Maker on the bottle. - House Wine.
Tonight is going to be a wild night.
What?
We're going to go sing some Karaoke!
Are we going for real?
I don't know. Do you want to go?
Yes! We have to go!
Do you guys feel like going to the karaoke bar?
Ok we will go.
Ok.
Are you ready to sing MJ?
Yes! I'm ready!
But I'm not very good.
I'm warning you.
If there's no Celine Dion, then I'm not singing.
(My Heart Will Go On)
(Creep)
She's running out. She's running out.
(Hit me Baby One More Time)
(Lose Yourself)
We sang like this for 2 hours.
We woke up with a little soar throat...
and small headache.
So chances are, 90% actually, that Alex will cut my bit in the final edit.
That's always what happens when I talk to the camera on my own.
That's not true.
Yes.
Last time, at the volcano, you cut out my bit.
I always get cut.

On our way to a very special desert, discover the Bardenas Reales - 2PVA LOGBOOK 7 - KM 1,580 - Duration: 6:00.
Hello everyone
This is the seventh log book
We are in Spain
in a very special place
that we wanted to see for a long time
but wait a minute and you will know everything about it.
It happened so much during the past 2 weeks that I don't even know where to start!
In our last log book we were in Segovia. Camille left, and we kept walking up the Sierra de Guadarrama
and reached the refuge de Navalcollado.
oh, yes, how crazy was this night!
We arrived by the last National Park opened in Spain.
The National Park of the Sierra de Guadarrama
We had snow until the hips, so it was very tough to walk for us.
What was our surprise when, waking up in the middle of the night,
we saw a snow groomer approaching the refuge!
At first we were a bit scared.
We did not understand what kind of truck or car could approach with that much of snow
but at the end it was a very good surprise!
Yes, especially in the morning
because, you know, hiking with snow until here
it's very difficult and quite time consuming.
So, it was much easier the next morning.
And getting down the ski track in the morning
some guys told us that we had nothing to do here!
Basically, at first, we felt a bit embarrassed but at the end everything happen to be super cool
Yeah, reaching the ski station we just came accross Ricardo, the snowshoing guide
He just told us "Oh, I have to leave now, but see you in Lozoya, the next village, and come sleep at home!"
What we did.
So after this, we kept going North,
and on the way, we passed by El Atazar.
When we arrived at the lake, we did not see the barrage at first
it was very beautiful, a stunning place, we got to sleep next to the lake,
as you can see on the images, what a place!
After that, we lost a lot of time because twice we were not able to cross rivers on the way
You know, when you look at the map, those rivers
seem very very small and tiny but, with the spring in the snow melting, it was really big.
One of the difficulties of the next days
were, let's say the cold welcome we received in some villages.
You know, some villages here are really small, only populated with elder people...
I don't know, if it was just difficult to get in touch with them...
Yes, it's not easy to connect with everyone
I think, that most of the time, if we have had 2 hours more to get to talk with the people
and introduce ourselves a bit more, it would have been easier
but, when we arrived in the village of Serón de Nágima, we found the village a bit abandoned.
In the least populated area of Spain
Where we got really invited, hosted and well welcomed by all people
we were invited to have lunch with this wonderful family from Morocco
Bachir, his wife and daughter, they had us for lunch.
After Serón de Nágima, we arrived in a place....
that you, guys, voted for
on the last itinerary votes through Facebook.
What was it?
The Natural Park of the Sierra de Alcarama and The Rio de Alhama
Arriving there we thought it was quite random, what a mistake, actually this place was fantastic.
Once again vultures, a lot of birds, but a crazy landscape.
Arriving the village of Cabretón,
We arrived in the village and met one then two then almost all the village
We got invited to sleep in the school.
The next morning when the teacher arrived, he invited us to talk to the kids
about our trip, about Europe, our experience and a lot of things.
We're now talking to you from the desert of Bardenas Reales.
This is one of the biggest desert of all Europe
and the biggest of the Iberian Peninsula.
It's a really stunning place,
charged of something strong, when you arrived here
you don't feel that you are in Europe.
The land is really salty what makes it very tough for the plants to grow making this very particular geology.
We still have 20 kilometers to go in the Bardenas and wow...
The sun is strong, guys!
We talk to you soon. We hope to survive to this desert
We see you for our next log book.
Cheers guys!!!!
