Sen. John McCain's Wife, Cindy, Likely To Succeed Him In The Senate
If Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) dies in office, his wife, Cindy McCain, will succeed him,
according to a new report from Washington, D.C. insider and veteran journalist John Gizzi.
Although no official plans have been made just yet — and Sen. John McCain is still
well enough to remain at work — Arizonans with knowledge of the situation tell Gizzi
and Newsmax that they fully expect Arizona's Republican governor, Doug Ducey, to appoint
McCain's wife to finish out his Senate term.
I've always assumed that was the arrangement," one "friend of the McCain family" told the
outlet.
Another former Republican senator reportedly agreed: "I don't know if this [succession]
has been formalized, but that's what people who know John tell me."
A third source allegedly told Gizzi that, while the governor is free to make his own
choice, McCain's wife Cindy is the "choice of Team McCain."
In terms of the Senate, the choice makes sense.
Several wives have succeeded their husbands into Congress after an untimely death, the
most famous being Mary Bono, who was elected to fill the seat of her late husband, famed
comedian and musician Sonny Bono, who died in an accident while skiing.
Mary Bono served several terms in the House of Representatives before suffering a defeat
in 2012.
She now works with a D.C.-based lobbying firm.
Cindy McCain has been an active part of both her husband's respective campaigns, and her
husband's tenure in the Senate (in addition to being a successful businesswoman in her
own right) and she would likely be a natural choice, though McCain does have children who
would be of an appropriate age to serve.
There are also separate options: a former Speaker of the Arizona House and several of
the governor's close aides.
For now, however, the succession plan is only speculative.

Mary Bono served several terms in the House of Representatives before suffering a defeat
in 2012.
She now works with a D.C.-based lobbying firm.
Cindy McCain has been an active part of both her husband's respective campaigns, and her
husband's tenure in the Senate (in addition to being a successful businesswoman in her
own right) and she would likely be a natural choice, though McCain does have children who
would be of an appropriate age to serve.
There are also separate options: a former Speaker of the Arizona House and several of
the governor's close aides.

9 Symptoms of Appendicitis
Appendicitis symptoms Appendicitis occurs when your appendix, a
worm-shaped pouch attached to the large intestine, becomes inflamed.
It can be life threatening if the appendix bursts, but doctors usually remove it surgically
before this happens.
A diagnosis can be tricky, however, says Michael Payne, MD, a gastroenterologist with Cambridge
Health Alliance, a Harvard-affiliated public healthcare system, in Cambridge, Mass.
"It is a very common illness and many people don't have classic symptoms," he says.
"We actually have to put our hands on a belly to see for sure."
See your doctor if you have the following symptoms.
Belly-button pain Appendicitis pain often occurs in the lower-right
side of the abdomen.
The first sign, however, is typically discomfort near the belly button, which then moves to
the lower abdomen.
Some people, including children and pregnant women, may experience pain in different areas
of their abdomen or on their side.
The pain also will get worse if you move your legs or abdomen; cough or sneeze; or are jarred—during
a bumpy car ride, for instance.
Rapidly worsening pain Once the pain is in the lower part of the
abdomen, it can be very intense.
Dr. Payne says many of his patients describe it as, "like no other pain they have felt
before."
Appendicitis is severe enough to wake someone who is sleeping.
Once it hits, the severity of pain can increase quickly—within a matter of hours, Dr. Payne
says.
Low-grade fever and chills Appendicitis symptoms may mimic those of a
stomach bug, including a low-grade fever, chills, and shaking.
Dr. Payne says that if you have stomach pain with a 100-degree fever, it's probably nothing
to worry much about.
But if you have a 103-degree fever and your stomach pain is severe enough that you can't
stand up straight, it may be appendicitis.
Vomiting, nausea, or loss of appetite "You won't have projectile vomiting," Dr.
Payne says.
"It's not like The Exorcist."
You may, however, have a couple days where your appetite is low with some mild nausea
and vomiting, similar to what you might have with a stomach bug.
If it improves after a day or so, you're probably fine.
But if it continues to get worse—particularly if you also have a fever and lower-right abdominal
pain—Dr. Payne says to seek medical attention.
If you have been vomiting for more than 12 hours, or have had diarrhea for more than
a couple days, you should call your doctor.
Constipation or diarrhea Like many of the other symptoms, these may
not be severe and probably will come on after you've already experienced abdominal pain.
But if you have mild diarrhea—especially if there is a lot of mucus in it—in addition
to lower-right abdominal pain, see your doctor.
Gas and bloating Eating five pieces of pizza and washing them
down with a few beers would cause bloating and indigestion in anyone.
But if you go to sleep after your indulgence and wake up still in pain—or the pain is
worse—you should beware.
Also beware if you have been bloated for more than a couple days, have a lot of gas accompanied
by bowel pain, or have trouble passing gas.
These are general symptoms that may indicate appendicitis if they occur in conjunction
with other telltale signs, such as fever and pain in the lower-right abdomen.
Rebound tenderness Rebound tenderness occurs when you push on
the lower-right part of your abdomen and then experience pain when releasing the pressure.
Dr. Payne says not to push on your abdomen again—"if it hurts, don't do it again" is
a good rule with appendicitis-related abdominal pain—and see your doctor if you experience
rebound tenderness, particularly if you have a fever, nausea, or other symptoms.
What else it could be The skin is loaded with sensors that pinpoint
the pain if, for instance, you get stung by a bee.
But it's a different story inside the body.
Conditions such as an ectopic pregnancy, Crohn's disease, pelvic inflammatory disease, and
constipation can feel similar to appendicitis.
But don't guess—see a doctor.
Even if the symptoms are not traditional, doctors can do an ultrasound or a white-blood-cell
count (which would be high if you have an infection) to help diagnose appendicitis,
Dr. Payne says.

10 Early Signs of Lupus
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes swelling (inflammation) and a wide variety
of symptoms.
Lupus affects everyone differently.
Some people have only a few mild symptoms and others have many, more severe symptoms.
Symptoms usually start in early adulthood, anywhere from the teen years into the 30s.
People with lupus generally experience flare-ups of symptoms followed by periods of remission.
That's why early symptoms are easy to dismiss.
Because early symptoms are similar to those of other conditions, having them doesn't
necessarily mean you have lupus.
Early symptoms can include:
1.
Fatigue About 90 percent of people with lupus experience
some level of fatigue.
An afternoon nap does the trick for some people, but sleeping too much during the day can lead
to insomnia at night.
It may be difficult, but if you can remain active and stick to a daily routine, you may
be able to keep your energy levels up.
Speak to your doctor if you're living with debilitating fatigue.
Some causes of fatigue can be treated.
2.
Unexplained fever One of the early symptoms of lupus is a low-grade
fever for no apparent reason.
Because it may hover somewhere between 98.5˚F (36.9˚C) and 101˚F (38.3˚C), you might
not think to see a doctor.
People with lupus may experience this type of fever off and on.
A low-grade fever could be a symptom of inflammation, infection, or imminent flare-up.
If you have recurrent, low-grade fevers, make an appointment to see your doctor.
3.
Hair loss Thinning hair is often one of the first symptoms
of lupus.
Hair loss is the result of inflammation of the skin and scalp.
Some people with lupus lose hair by the clump.
More often, hair thins out slowly.
Some people also have thinning of the beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, and other body hair.
Lupus can cause hair to feel brittle, break easily, and look a bit ragged, earning it
the name "lupus hair."
Lupus treatment usually results in renewed hair growth.
But if you develop lesions on your scalp, hair loss in those areas may be permanent.

Skin rash or lesions One of the most visible symptoms of lupus
is a butterfly-shaped rash that appears over the bridge of the nose and on both cheeks.
About 50 percent of people with lupus have this rash.
It can occur suddenly or appear after exposure to sunlight.
Sometimes the rash appears just before a flare-up.
Lupus can also cause non-itchy lesions in other areas of the body.
Rarely, lupus can cause hives.
Many people with lupus are sensitive to the sun, or even to artificial lighting.
Some experience discoloration in the fingers and toes.

Pulmonary issues Inflammation of the pulmonary system is another
possible symptom of lupus.
The lungs become inflamed, and the swelling can extend to lung blood vessels.
Even the diaphragm may be affected.
These conditions can all lead to chest pain when you try to breathe in.
This condition is often referred to as pleuritic chest pain.
Over time, breathing issues from lupus can shrink lung size.
Ongoing chest pain and shortness of breath characterize this condition.
It's sometimes called vanishing (or shrinking lung syndrome).

Kidney inflammation People with lupus can develop a kidney inflammation
called nephritis.
Inflammation makes it harder for the kidneys to filter toxins and waste from the blood.
According to the Lupus Foundation of America, nephritis usually begins within five years
of the start of lupus.

swelling in the lower legs and feet high blood pressure
blood in your urine darker urine
having to urinate more frequently at night pain in your side
Early symptoms may go unnoticed.
After diagnosis, monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
Untreated lupus nephritis can lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Painful, swollen joints Inflammation can cause pain, stiffness, and
visible swelling in your joints, particularly in the morning.
It may be mild at first and gradually become more obvious.
Like other symptoms of lupus, joint problems can come and go.
If over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications don't help, see your doctor.
There may be better treatment options.
But your doctor must determine if your joint problems are caused by lupus or another condition,
such as arthritis.

Gastrointestinal problems Some people with lupus experience occasional
heartburn, acid reflux, or other gastrointestinal problems.
Mild symptoms can be treated with OTC antacids.
If you have frequent bouts of acid reflux or heartburn, try cutting down on the size
of your meals, and avoid beverages containing caffeine.
Also, don't lie down right after a meal.
If symptoms continue, see your doctor to rule out other conditions.

Thyroid problems It's not uncommon for people with lupus
to develop autoimmune thyroid disease.
The thyroid helps control your body's metabolism.
A poorly functioning thyroid can affect vital organs like your brain, heart, kidneys, and
liver.
It can also result in weight gain or weight loss.
Other symptoms include dry skin and hair, and moodiness.
When a thyroid is underactive, the condition is known as hypothyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism is caused by an overactive thyroid.
Treatments to get your metabolism back on track are available.
10.
Dry mouth, dry eyes If you have lupus, you may experience dry
mouth.
Your eyes may feel gritty and dry, too.
That's because some people with lupus develop Sjogren's disease, another autoimmune disorder.
Sjogren's causes the glands responsible for tears and saliva to malfunction, and lymphocytes
can accumulate in the glands.
In some cases, women with lupus and Sjogren's may also experience dryness of the vagina
and skin.
OTHER SYMPTOMS Other symptoms
The list of potential symptoms of lupus is lengthy.
Other symptoms include oral ulcers, enlarged lymph nodes, muscle pain, chest pain, osteoporosis,
and depression.
Rare symptoms include anemia, dizziness, and seizures.
Fortunately, not everyone gets every symptom.
While new symptoms can appear, others often disappear.
