- And I'm also gonna show you how I bombed it once,
like crazy, no, twice, crazy bombed it.
And totally messed up.
Ahhhh, magical.
Just for you.
All wrapped up in a pretty little package.
(energetic music)
Hey guys, this is Alison and I'm gonna show you today
six ways on how you can make your product super unique,
to blow the competition out of the water
and help you sell more.
And I'm also gonna show you how I bombed it once.
Like crazy, no, twice, crazy bombed it
and totally messed up so you don't have to do that too.
Don't forget to like, share, subscribe
and let's get started.
Number one, you need to get your products to be relatable.
So I want you to watch this corkboard video,
like I cringe watching it.
And yes, I'm a blondie at this point in my career.
And I'm just like, touching the cork-boards
I'm like "look how pretty they are!"
There was nothing relatable in that.
No wonder why we didn't sell 'em,
nobody connected with them.
And then I tried it again with cake stands
and I'm like look they stack on top of each other.
And it didn't connect, it didn't sell very well.
Then, I had little bit of a mind shift
and I said you know what, I'm gonna try these
but I'm gonna make something on it.
And so we ended up making a five minute cake,
which, yes, those are my hands.
I'm on my front porch 'cause it was perfect lighting
it was not like this big fancy studio.
And then I literally made a five minute ice-cream cake on
the cake stand that I was selling.
And guess what?
That cake stand?
You guys, it sold out in minutes.
'Cause people could relate, they could imagine themselves
putting that ice cream cake together and then serving it.
And the video got like 13 million views on top of it.
So we sold out very quickly and then it went viral
so we got a lot of new customers.
Make your products relatable.
Number two, personality.
Your products need to have personality.
Whether you name your product a really unique crazy name
or whether you literally just give 'em some personality.
So take this twine for instance.
Twine, eh, right?
It just is like, thick thread until
you give it some personality.
So what we did is we took this twine,
and we printed off a little car that we found,
and we put it on a package,
put twine around it like it was holding a Christmas tree.
You wanna know how much twine we sold?
So much, I don't have the exact numbers.
But it was a lot, it was a way lot.
How do I know this? Because I kept selling twine over
and over again and that video got so many views
and made us so many sales.
Personality, use it.
Number three, use faces.
'Kay, so take a look at this.
This is called washi tape right here,
let's see if that focuses.
Mrrp mrrp.
It's just little washi tape,
all it is really is like sticky paper with color on it.
Like that's it.
You just stick it on stuff, right?
And some people are like Alison what do you do with washi?
I still have people today that are like,
"Alison what do you, I have all this washi tape that
"I bought from you but I don't remember what to do with it."
Give them a vision of what to do with it.
So, for instance, we gave this to my little guys,
and they created a racetrack on the carpet.
And they had so much fun with it, and guess what?
We saw a lot of pictures coming in about little kids
using this for race cars.
And it kept kids busy for at least a half hour.
Bonus, win-win, right there.
And then another idea is we took this washi tape
and we put it on a pumpkin for Halloween.
Huh?
I don't like carving very much.
But I'll tell you what,
washi tape made me love decorating pumpkins again.
'Cause I didn't wanna break out all the slimy pumpkin stuff.
This was a lot easier, a lot better,
and I think it turned out a lot cuter.
Number four, bonuses, freebies.
Who loves freebies?
Raise your hand.
I know I do.
Like I love bonuses and freebies,
so add in a bonus, add in a freebie with your products.
So for instance it would be like
these cute little boxes right here.
Add in a set of free tags with 'em.
Everybody loves a tag, everybody loves a freebie.
And you need tags for boxes over Christmas, right?
It just works out really, really well together.
And you don't have to do like a thousand tags.
Just maybe a set of five or a set of 10,
something super easy.
Or take for instance these bags, super cute right?
Add in like, a free yard of ribbon or something like that,
people love the word free.
And it increases the value of your product.
And it sets you so far apart from the competition.
Yeah, they could be selling bags too,
But they're not giving the free ribbon away.
And they're gonna buy with you because it's a bonus.
People like bonuses.
Lifestyle pictures.
Lifestyle pictures tell an entire story.
So let's say you don't wanna do video
like the earlier examples I had earlier.
Use your pictures to tell a story of the product.
So for instance, these little tiny colorful milk jugs.
I got 'em into the warehouse and people were like
"Alison, what do people do with this they're so tiny?"
And I'm like, I have an idea.
I've got a really good idea.
They could be, they could hold the straws at parties.
And because of that shift,
because we told them what they could do with it,
not told them,
because they could see what they could do with it,
we ended up selling out of those little tiny milk jugs
and aren't they so cute?
Like seriously, they're so cute.
Add the straws in 'em, and they're 100 times cuter.
And our customers could see that,
and they were, they sold out like crazy.
Crazy crazy.
'Kay, so here's a bonus, not a freebie bonus,
but an upsell bonus.
So let's say you sell
those little tiny containers and you're like,
look how cute those straws would look in 'em.
And then what do you do next?
You offer 'em the straws for sale.
That's a good idea.
They come in to buy one thing
and they walk away buying two things.
Your order value goes up.
Ah, magical.
Alright, number six go against the grain.
A lot of our competitors were just using one huge picture,
and we decided to use a collage to help tell the story more.
We had a picture of the product,
and maybe like a more raw product,
and then the big picture showed the vision of it.
And it worked really well.
When we saw our pictures amongst other pictures,
we could tell which ones were ours, ours were branded.
You could see,
it was kinda almost like a story line of the product.
And that works really, really well.
And has worked really well for us.
Old and new, it still works, I still do it.
I still try and take my e-commerce pictures,
the stuff that I'm currently selling today,
and I try and make them stand out a little bit more,
and tell that story.
And I use all six of those things,
like right now, today, to help my products sell more.
And it's working.
And how do I know it's working today?
It's cause I do it every single day.
I wanna show you on March 12th through the 14th
we sold almost $20,0000.
$20,000.
You guys that wasn't a story five years ago,
or even last year, it was like last month.
And we still have stories coming in, cause it works.
Making your products unique, telling a story,
not selling a product but selling the vision.
It works, and it converts.
So get out there,
build your businesses don't forget to like, share, subscribe
