Youtube daily report w Jul 19 2018

Let's pass this resolution.

Mr. President, I ask unanimous

consent that the senate proceed

to the consideration of S. Res.

583.

I ask unanimous consent the

resolution be agreed to, the

preamble be agreed to, and that

the motions to reconsider be

considered made and laid upon

the table with no intervening

action or debate.

The presiding officer: Is

there objection?

A senator: Mr. President.

The presiding officer:

Majority whip.

Mr. Cornyn: Mr. President,

reserving the right to object,

let me first thank the senator

from Arizona and the senator

from Delaware for expressing all

of our concern about Russian

interference in the 2016

election.

It's absolutely clear they did,

and the president has said as

much on a number of occasions.

Now, I agree in Helsinki he was

less than clear about that, but

he came back and said that he'd

misspoke and reafarmed his

earlier position -- reaffirmed

his earlier position that, yes,

the Russia government had

attempted to interfere in the

election, although nobody

disputes the fact that they were

successful in changing a single

vote or affecting the outcome.

Ironically, the very same

investigation which has made

clear that the Russians did

attempt to disrupt the election

has also made clear there is no

evidence of collusion that

anybody has uncovered to date.

So my concern is with -- with

this resolution is that it is

purely a symbolic act, and what

we need to do is not just offer

symbolic resolutions on the

floor; we need to do the hard

work that senators have to do

through the regular order.

In other words, our committees

that have jurisdiction over

these issues ought to be

permitted to call the witnesses

and ask the hard questions and

develop the record before we go

on record as to a resolution

like this.

I would point out that the

Top 10 Scariest Haunted Houses In California - Duration: 7:39.

How's it going YouTube?

I'm your host Landon Dowlatsingh and welcome back to another most amazing video.

Before we get started, I want to know, what scares you the most?

Let me know your answers in the comment section below.

California is known for having some of the most haunted houses in the world.

So here are the top 10 scariest haunted houses in California, all of which possess a dark

history.

Getting us scared in at number 10 is the John Sowden house in Los Angeles.

Back on January 15, 1947, a woman's body was found on this lot.

Her murder became one of the most reported murders of that time because of the gruesome

way in which her body had been found.

She was surgically cut in half from the waist down, washed, cleaned and posed by her killer.

Residents who have since lived there have reported hearing strange noises such as the

dragging of heavy chains, heavy footsteps and voices calling their name.

The Queen Mary Ship creeps onto this list in at number 9.

I had to include this one on the list because people technically did live on this ship and

it is referred to as the most haunted ship in America.

It was in operation since the 1930's but now it is permanently docked in Long Beach,

California and it is used as a hotel.

As nice as this might sound, guests on board will often experience sleepless nights.

There has been a bunch of scary paranormal activity reported on this ship.

Guests will say that they will hear creepy kid laughter in the middle of the night or

things will be flown across the room.

And Room B340 has been taken out of rotation after there has been numerous violent poltergeist

activity.

It's actually impossible to keep someone in that room for the entire night because

they will be scared away.

Up next in at number 8 we have the Stanley House.

This is a notorious haunted house that has a long reputation of being one of the most

haunted places in Orange County.

One of the most talked about frightening ghosts that lives here is the previous owner.

During her golden years, she was unable to climb up the stairs so after her death she

is known to appear in spirit on the staircase blocking others from going up.

Visitors have reported that they found it difficult or even impossible to get past her

and go up the stairs.

Moving into number 7 with the Battery point lighthouse.

This is an iconic lighthouse located in Crescent city, California and it was built back in

1856.

There have been numerous reports of strange and creepy occurrences happening there.

Lighthouse workers and guests say that they have heard what sounded like someone wearing

large boots stomping around.

There have also been reports of items moving, cold spots and the feeling that someone was

touching them when no one was there.

The Whaley house haunts us in at number 6.

This haunted house was built on an old site where public executions occurred, so yeah,

this place is pretty haunted.

Over the years, many descendants of the Whaley family lived and died in that house and when

the house was being restored, workers and visitors began to notice strange and mysterious

sounds, sightings, smells and encounters.

A lot of people reported hearing scary noises and loud footsteps that left footprints.

You can actually visit this house and take a tour but I think I'd rather not.

The red house jumps into number 5.

This is an old abandoned house that is occupied by a vengeful spirit.

Back in the beginning of the 20th century, an engaged couple used to live here.

Well on the night before their wedding, they had a huge fight and the man pushed his fiancée

down the stairs.

She died and he buried her in the backyard.

Well today, she has been seen haunting the house and nearby businesses.

People have reported that she is wearing her wedding dress that is covered in blood.

And local legend say that if you step in front of her, she'll rush forward and drag you

to her gravesite and you will never be seen again.

Okay, I don't think I will be visiting this old creepy, haunted abandoned house anytime

soon.

The Glen Tavern Inn creeps us out in at number 4.

This house was built in 1911 but don't be fooled by its beautiful exterior, this house

has a very ugly past.

Back during the prohibition, they converted the third floor into a speakeasy, brothel

and gambling den.

And one of its most infamous rooms is Room 307 which is said to be haunted by two ghosts.

The amount of paranormal activity here is very high.

Visitors said they saw children running through the halls and some say they have seen an angry

man and a one-eyed female.

There are also reports of the spirts playing the piano in the middle of the night and others

have said that their stuff was stolen.

Los Coches Adobe makes it onto this list in at number 3.

This might be one of the most terrifying places in California.

This building is located on an old mine site however it was covered up because on one horrific

day, an accident occurred in the mine and 30 workers were trapped inside.

All of them lost their lives so its no wonder that this place is haunted.

Locals and visitors said that they have heard the screams of the trapped miners echoing

from the property and there are also numerous reports of a lady in black and a male phantom

walking around the grounds.

Some people have even said that they have seen the ghost of a hanging man from a tree.

Next up in at number 2 we have the Winchester mystery house in San Jose.

Since it was built in 1884, the mansion is said to be haunted by ghosts who were killed

with Winchester rifles.

Construction began in 1884 and never stopped until the owner died in 1992.

The owner believed that her house was haunted by victims and the only way to keep them quiet

was to keep on building.

The building was opened up to the public in 1923 and the staff and visitors have reported

seeing mischievous spirits who liked to torment them.

Alcatraz tops this list in at number 1.

Prions are often the site of restless spirits and hauntings and Alcatraz is no exception.

This prison was the site of violent activities and it housed some of the most dangerous criminals

in the world.

Alcatraz is actually a breeding ground for the paranormal.

One of the most feared presences on the island is known as "The Thing".

This creepy spirit has red glowing eyes and it has been recently seen by visitors and

also by the prison staff when Alcatraz was in operation.

Other common reporting's are of creepy voices, sobbing, screaming and the banging of cell

doors.

Some have even said that they felt as if they were being touched, felt cold and they even

had emotional outburst of either sadness or anger.

Well there you guys have it…

House of Tracks on Dutch Television Compilation - Duration: 1:23.

Established DJ's often use a ghost producer, someone that partially or fully produces the

track for the artist.

Sometimes this is known but often enough it isn't so it seems from research done by NOS'es

youtube channel.

Most ghost producers don't mind selling their tracks.

Especially starting ghost producers offer their tracks on websites like House of Tracks.

Yes, on that website there are about 500 tracks offered each month.

For instance this one, which costs 300 euro's.

Well for 300 euros this track could be yours.

But ghost producers are sometimes young DJ's that hope to make it big someday.

For me, it's like a part-time job.

I get about 300 to 1000 euros per track.

The producers are being paid.

One a bit more than the other but their name often remains unknown.

This is why it sometimes seems like the artist made

the track themselves.

Is this a bad thing?

Singers also often sing tracks they didn't write themselves.

Storytelling

Which one of you is scared?

Who is daring instead?

This is a mysterious book

That you must browse quietly.

Eight terrible creatures

After the windows are hidden,

But without fear at last

the pages we are going to open.

Help, I'm seeing a huge snake

with yellow eyes and burning eyes

It has sharp teeth for the deadly bite

and it's already out here, the horrendous animal

Although you tremble.

Control your breath ...

But if you prove it ...

Well, it's just a truck that looks for parking.

Through the window the face of an ogre appears

with a big nose and disgusting appearance.

Injected in blood has a giant eye

and growls and screams like a bad singer.

It will impose the most severe punishments.

But if you prove it ...

They are only the tools of a gardener.

Hurriedly approaches a fierce snout

that screams and howls with a horrible voice.

Has orange eyes, rough skin

and rabid fangs in his slug mouth.

In a pile of bones it will convert you.

You will see…

But if you prove it ...

From three robins the houses you will see.

One, two and three.

A werewolf approaches, auuu, what horror.

Its terrible aspect leaves you trembling.

Evil eyes poke through the window.

Sure you never eat apple pie.

It will want to devour you in a single bite ...

But if you prove it ...

They are just little birds eating enchanted.

There is a monstrous skull in the window.

with fierce eyes and scary look.

His nose is hollow and frightening

and his teeth grind horribly ...

It will tear you apart with determination ...

But if you prove it ...

It is the blooming cactus that is on the balcony.

A furious dragon is approaching

with yellow eyes and hairy nose like a bear.

He spits fire through his giant nose

and if you do not run out, he'll throw the glove on you.

It will swallow you as if you were a worm ...

But if you prove it ...

It's just the crest of a happy rooster.

There is an evil witch in the window,

with the sullen gesture and the mouth without teeth.

He has a strange smile

and I do not know what ... terrible and repellent.

In your casserole you will bake with zucchini ...

But if you prove it ...

It's just a butterfly that flies in the garden

Thousand eyes are approaching very quickly

and everything that horrible monster sees.

It has greenish tongue, little teeth,

and its fetid breath frightens all the people.

It will crush you with inhuman strength ...

But if you prove it ...

It's just a plant that is in my window

Who is in the window?

How to: Drift wood effect with Chalk paint - Duration: 5:27.

Driftwood Effect

Hello!

Today I thought I'll show you how to get

Light, ordinary wood to look like dark, old wood

And to that I have taken a

small wooden box

It is just pure wood

but this technique can also be used

on something that has been oiled a very long time ago

Or, you can roughen the surface a bit so that the color attaches properly

So.

I think the model on this little box is very cute, but

it's pretty dull

so I want to darken it and make it look older

And so...

The first thing I will do

is to mix two colors, I have a brown

Annie Sloan's Chalk paint - Honfleur and I have

a black - Graphite

or, gray? A very dark gray anyway

I'll mix them up so I get a brown-black shade

and then I will

pour some water into that mixture

because I want to work with a watery color

I want to use a technique called 'Wash'

and if you do it with these two colors

you can make a....... Or, a wash can be called

almost a stain!

But you do not use stain, you are using chalk paint

The important thing now when you mix the paint with water

is that you do not whisk too much

but really, really mixing it carefully

because I do not want any air bubbles here, it can affect the result very much

This can get pretty messy so I get some paper,

Plus, if I get too much paint on

I can wipe the paint with the paper so I get

just the shade I want

Before I start painting I'll scratch a little bit

I'm going to chop a bit here and there

Because it will be very nice, the color will soak in so it will be

darker in those places

Posture For Singing - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy - Duration: 3:09.

Hey, guys! Welcome back again to Ken Tamplin vocal Academy, where the proof is

in the singing! We got a lot of requests for this one

and that is "Does posture really matter for singing, and if so, how do I get it?"

Well, it's kind of funny. There's actually a "vocal coach" on YouTube, a well-known

one, that does this like flippy-floppy thing and he tries to show everybody how,

you know, he can sing without having to sit up straight, or do some things that

are really necessary for a good posture. First of all he doesn't sing for crap,

and second, to say that is utterly absurd. It flies in the face of a couple of

hundred years of other people that disagree with that, and in the biggest of

ways. So let's just discuss what posture is first, how we get it, and how we can be

good at it, okay, because it really does matter. So first thing is, we have our

spine, and we want to sit straight up, and we don't want to tip the spine in any

direction, Right? We want to have... if we can avoid it.

Now sometimes we're gonna go "LAH!!"you know we're gonna have this, like, moment where... and it

happens. Doo doo happens we're great. We're good.

But in this case, especially for practicing and building good muscle

memory, we want to sit straight up. We don't want to have the spine tipped in

any direction, and if you notice, if you try to go forward and sing a note and

you see how that affects your abdominal cavity and the strength in the abdomen

and you go back and try to go back really far and you see how that affects

your trachea, you're gonna find that Posture Matters. Okay? So we sit straight

up. Now I'm sitting now, in a chair, however we really want to stand up when

we sing, because we lose about 30% of our support when we're sitting. So let's just

get this straight. We understand, here it is, we've taken our abdominal breath and

if you don't have my video on diaphragmatic support, go check it out.

But we take in the breath...

we want to stay straight up as much as we can because our strength comes from

our core, and the more we mess with our core, the less strength that we have. Even

sitting. When I stand up I get more strength in my core because the transverse

abdominis muscle that goes through my whole body down my spine and sciatica

gives me more strength. But we want to just stand straight up. We don't wanna get

the spine tipped. We don't want to look up. We don't want to look down. We want to

look straight on. I promise you, guys, this is the real deal. So, Ken Tamplin Vocal

Academy, where the proof is in the singing.

Thank you for joining me.

"I'm Sorry You're Deaf" - Duration: 9:55.

(scratching, digital music)

Whoo, this is the fourth?

Yeah, fourth speaking video that I'm filming today,

and the deaf accent is coming out even more

'cause my throat hurts.

So, but actually, we're gonna talk about something

deaf-related, because right before I sat down

to film my videos, I actually got an email

that inspired this fourth speaking video.

And I got an email that said something along the lines of,

I'm sorry that you are deaf, and I feel very bad for you.

So we're gonna unpack why

stuff like that is just not really good to say,

especially, it's not good to send it

to somebody's business email, first. (laughs)

That's one thing, it's not good to send it

to somebody's business email, who uses a business email for

business, but also, just, I'm sorry that you are deaf

and I feel so bad for you, is just not good to say.

So I would like to make a disclaimer

that everybody feels differently,

this does not speak for every deaf person,

every disabled person.

This is my thoughts, my feelings, and the thoughts

and feelings of other people who have the same feelings.

So there are many of us deaf people

that are completely okay with being deaf,

and, of course, there are people who really hate being deaf.

Sometimes these are the people that were born deaf,

grew up deaf, and they may have either been, one,

mainstreamed, or two, grown up culturally deaf.

But I think, I think, I don't know,

that there's a less chance of hating being deaf

if you grew up in deaf culture,

because you grew up with a whole big family,

and all of that, so yeah.

But I think it mainly comes from, those who don't like

the hearing loss, or don't like being deaf,

come from the mainstream side of things,

where they don't have access to ASL,

or the sign language of their country,

and they never grew up in any sort of deaf culture,

they may be the only deaf person that they knew,

et cetera, et cetera.

I have experienced that in the past.

Before I was 20 years old, and finally finding out

that there was something out there,

more people that were like me,

I hated it, I hated it, I did.

But that was only because I was in a very country-like town,

with people that just didn't know what to do

with deaf people, wouldn't give 'em any jobs,

because they thought, oh, you can't do anything,

you are a liability, so no.

Schooling was out of the question, more than high school,

past high school schooling, higher education.

That can make a person feel inadequate, and that

has the chance of making people

hate being deaf or disabled.

But again, then you have people who may have grown up,

like me, mainstream, but at the end of the day,

maybe they still don't find deaf culture,

or ASL, or whatever.

Maybe they are very happy with the way they are,

maybe they have a hearing aid,

maybe they have cochlear implants, whatever,

and they're just fine, okay, cool.

And then you have, grown up mainstream, found deaf culture,

starts learning ASL, or sign language,

they're very, very happy, they feel better.

And then you have the fourth, or the third,

I've lost count now, fourth.

They either grew up with deaf parents,

or maybe they grew up in a hearing family,

but the hearing family did more research

and they weren't like, oh my God,

they're gonna fail in life, so we're,

but instead, they did their research,

and they put them in a deaf school,

put 'em in, say, they moved to

a place where there's a deaf community,

like Seattle or Washington, D.C.,

or somewhere in River-- is it Riverside?

No, Northridge, just in Los Angeles,

let's just say Los Angeles.

So places where there are strong deaf communities.

So they grew up, they flourish even more,

or whatever, and they're happy.

It's just, it's not a polite thing

to say.

Overall, it's just like, especially when,

if you're coming to someone who has expressed

time and time again that they're fine.

They may mention, in the past, that they were like,

oh no, but if they mention now that they're fine,

that they have no problems with it,

yes, sometimes it may be difficult, it may be hard,

there may be moments when we're just like,

wow, this sucks, but it's not because,

it's not necessarily, it could be, sometimes,

but it's not always necessarily because

the ears don't work properly.

It's because of the lack of accessibility in society.

So it's not because of the ears,

it's not because of the legs or the arms or whatever,

now we're kind of getting all general here

about disability and whatnot.

A lot of the time, it comes from the behavior

of people that are not the same as us.

It comes with the fact that there are no ramps,

there is no accessibility on the sidewalk,

no ASL interpreters, or captions,

and the plastic straw ban, and stuff like that.

And, of course, it's easier to say this type of thing

behind a keyboard, behind a computer screen.

I imagine that people probably

wouldn't go up to someone in person and say, I'm so sorry.

Actually, that is a lie, I've experienced it.

I do think that people would be less likely to do that,

but that does not mean that it has not happened.

I have experience, when I was out with my biological mother

and my biological mother is also deaf,

that's basically how, this is why I am,

and we were out at a kiosk, we were at the jewelry repair,

and she's also deaf, and he knew this,

because we were frequent, or she was a frequent customer,

and he looks at me, and he goes, oh, are you deaf too?

And I go, yeah.

And he goes, oh, I'm sorry.

And I'm like.

And it's not the first time it's happened.

If somebody, I'm trying to talk to somebody, and their

mouths are covered and whatnot, and I'm like, I'm deaf,

I'm gonna need you to not do that.

Then they're like, oh, I'm so sorry.

Of course, it could be because they didn't realize,

and it's like a reactionary, oh, I'm sorry,

'cause I've done that too.

I'm doing something awkward or not what I should be doing,

really, because it's not helping the other person.

Sometimes I'll be moving my hand out of the way

for whatever reason, I'm like, oh, sorry.

When you recognize it from the tone of the voice

or the facial expression.

You kind of can tell the difference.

Deaf people are good at this.

And disabled people, who can hear better, are good at this.

So we noticed when one is looking,

when one shows off the pity face,

or says it with a pity tone,

and the, I feel so bad for you, I'll pray for you

and your deafness, and whatever,

it's just rude.

First of all,

it gives off the feeling that you think that it's

a bad thing, and that there's something wrong with us,

when really, we could say, yeah,

our ears don't work too well,

which isn't necessarily the most positive thing,

but it's just, it's one thing when we say that

about ourselves, and crack jokes about ourselves,

and it's different when a random stranger

comes into your inbox, or in your personal space,

and says that kind of thing.

It's just, they're very different.

And even if you went up to a person who really didn't like

being disabled, or deaf, or whatever, and said that,

I still wouldn't recommend it, actually,

because it doesn't help. (laughs)

It doesn't help the situation at all.

But, especially, don't go up to someone at all.

It's like, you wouldn't go up to somebody,

or you shouldn't go up to somebody

and say something about their looks,

about what they're wearing, about what they're doing,

about what they sound like, or whatever.

It's just, it's rude.

If you have that kind of thought, please,

just keep it to yourself and don't project it out,

and say it to other people.

It's fine, I'm deaf.

I'm pretty much completely deaf in this ear,

basically, almost.

And I've got some hearing left,

it's getting worse by the day, but

it's not gonna bother me.

It doesn't, I go on about my daily life,

the same way I always have.

The only times I have problems with it

is when the behavior of abled society

is, basically,

making it like it's supposed to be a bad thing.

So not listening to me, or not accommodating me

when I'm asking them to write down on paper,

or type on my phone, or if I'm asking for interpreters

or captioners at events, or when there's no captions

on a video, that's when it becomes a problem,

but it's not because of me,

it's just because of the lack of accessibility in the world,

when there should be, because,

laws, most of them, most of it.

Some of 'em, some little itty-bitty things don't have laws,

so they can get away with it, unfortunately.

So that's all I have to say on the matter,

I'm sure there's a whole lot of videos like this,

probably some of my other disabled friends,

the other disabled YouTubers that you know,

will probably have similar videos.

If you have any experiences like this,

you're more than welcome to leave your stories

down in the comments below.

But after you do that, and before you go,

if you haven't considered being a pledge on Patreon,

I give you exclusive content like music playlists

on Spotify, and some writing that you won't see on Medium,

and pen pal letters, if you wanna go high enough.

And I will see you later, bye.

FISH OF THE DAY #explorewithjeanneau Episode#5 - Merry Fisher 695 (part.3) - Duration: 3:01.

I'm in Milford Sound, Fiordland,

and it's time for me to try to get our chef some Crayfish.

The water is a chilly 9 degrees Celsius, and here in Fiords,

you can find a lot of species in shallower water

because of the fresh water layer on top of the salt.

My biggest problem is fishing the Crays out from around the ancient black coral trees.

The white tree-like branches have black coral inside,

they are incredibly delicate and very very old.

Normally you would only find them at 100m,

but not here, and all around them - crayfish.

Crayfish are usually found under rocks and in crevasses,

but here, here they are everywhere.

They're big too and there's plenty of them, but I only need a few.

Woo, hoo, woah yeah! Hee hee hee.

In places they are literally crawling over each other,

I just need to pick the size I want,

and in only a few minutes I have exactly what I need. Thank you.

This part of the coastline, we didn't really know where,

we just thought we'll get in the water here, and ah, see what's under the rocks,

and this...

...is exactly what our chefs after.

Beautiful, big spiny red Fiordland Lobster.

What a special special place.

It's so hard to describe unless you come here

and even as a New Zealander where you think that you know the country,

to come here all your senses are reset because this is totally different.

Above and below the water. Just amazing.

Got the fish now I need a shower.

When your presented with a waterfall like this.

Wow. What better way to wash off than diving in.

Mr. Cornyn: Mr. President,

reserving the right to object,

let me first thank the senator

from Arizona and the senator

from Delaware for expressing all

of our concern about Russian

election.

It's absolutely clear they did,

Now, I agree in Helsinki he was

he came back and said that he'd

his earlier position that, yes,

the Russia government had

Ironically, the very same

So my concern is with -- with

Alaska Cruise Watch Outs. 8 Things Brochures Don't Tell You! - Duration: 5:37.

I'm Gary Bembridge of Tips For Travellers. I'm going to tell you eight things the

brochures don't tell you about going on an Alaska cruise that I think you really

need to know. The first thing you need to know is about the weather - it's likely to

rain. The Alaska cruise season runs from May to September, and the real peak of

the rain is right in the busiest time. So assume if you go to Alaska that is going

to rain. Places like Ketchikan, for example, have over 300 days a year

of rain. But don't let that put you off. They're used to running tours and they're

used to dealing with travelers arriving when it is raining, and they can

run the tours in the rain - but just make sure that you are prepared with what you

pack, what you bring and what you wear to go on excursions. Do not let

that put you off, it is still absolutely magnificent and doesn't necessarily rain

all day every day. The second thing you need to know is you will be spending a

lot of time on the ship. So if you go on, for example, an Inside Passage cruise

there are two sea days andthere's also going to be at least one full day of

cruising through something like Glacier Bay in that seven days. So there's quite

a lot of time spent on the ship. Now of course the cruise lines know this and plan

lots of activities. The great news is the scenery, pretty much at all times of

cruising, is phenomenal so you do have lots to look at. The other thing you need

to know when going to Alaska is that it's incredibly busy. There are at least 29

ships in a season cruising Alaska and over 1.3 million people will cruise to Alaska

in that period from May to September. So which ever port you go to you likely to

have four or five ships there's. So there is going to be anything between 10,000 and 15,000

passengers. Bear in mind if you take a place like Skagway, which is one of the

most popular places to stop, they only have a summertime population of about

1,200 people. The ports, they're used to this and actually it doesn't feel that

crowded once you're there because once the ships arrive people are off on

excursions - and a lot of the excursions are heading off on float plans, they're

heading off on boats to go whale watching, so that they disperse quite

quickly. Don't let that put you off because what you see is phenomenal and

once you head off on your excursion you're going to feel much less crowded and

much less busy - because there are huge amounts of excursions. The fourth thing

you need to know is if you really want to go out and see things in Alaska,

excursions can be pretty expensive - because they are do involve relatively

expensive activities. Whether it's ships and boats going out to go whale watching or

whether it's helicopters taking you hiking on glaciers. Let me give you some

examples: a phenomenal dog sledding excursion by helicopter can cost as much

as $640. Whale watching over $150.

If you want to go on the Magnificent White Pass and Yukon railway,

which most people do, in the standard class that's gonna cost you about

$130 and if you go in the luxury it's gonna cost you over

$300. So you've got you fare of getting you to Alaska and then it is

going to cost you a lot if you really want to experience Alaska. The fifth thing is

about visiting Glacier Bay. Now Glacier Bay is a magnificent five-mile Inlet. It

has some of the most important and beautiful glaciers, however only two cruise

ships are allowed in per day. So a lot of the cruise lines do not head into Glacier

Bay because they just can't get in. Take a look for a cruise lines and itineraries

that are going to take you to Glacier Bay. So, for example, I went with Holland

America which has been traveling in Alaska for over 70 years and they take

you into Glacier Bay. The cruise lines and itineraries that don't go to Glacier

Bay are not going to tell you that you will be missing something magical. The next

thing I think to watch out for is souvenirs. Overall personally I was quite

disappointed with the souvenirs as I felt they were not that inspired and

they weren't as authentic as I'd like them to be. There are two things that

you need to look for if you're buying souvenirs, one at which is the bear logo

this means that it's made in Alaska or there's a hand logo which means that

it's authentic handcraft by the indigenous population. Do you look for

those two logos because it does mean that it's likely to be more authentic

and not made in China or whatever. The seventh thing to know about is Wi-Fi and

connectivity. It is not that great on cruise ships as Wi-Fi can be relatively expensive

but certainly once you get to the various ports you will not find lots of

free Wi-Fi places everywhere. There are little pockets of it and so if you

get to Skagway it is almost non-existent - even the one free Wi-Fi at the library

is awful. Your phone connection may be a little

bit erratic because of all the mountains. Bear in mind then for that week on

your Alaska cruise you are going to be relatively disconnected. The eighth thing that

I want to talk about, which they don't really warn you about, is if you're going

on Alaska cruise out of Vancouver you then of course are heading from

Canada into the United States - and passing through the whole

immigration process is quite a long and laborious process and quite slow. Because

on any one day in Vancouver you probably got two or three ships boarding, so I

what I recommend you do is actually try and check in

a little bit later towards the end of the day, obviously making sure you

do it in time before your cruise closes -then hopefully some of the lines

have gone down. Those are the eight things that I think that the brochures

EQ&You: Don't Be a Middleman - Duration: 1:59.

Hi this is Jen, I want to talk to you today about a common dynamic that occurs

in the workplace. Especially for those that are in a leadership role. An

employee might come to you complain about another employee, basically tell

you look you need to deal with this I can't handle this anymore, and then by

the way don't get me involved. And kind of dump it on you. I call this leader

as middleman. And it's a tough situation to be in because the employee is now

expecting you to go fix something when really you're just the middleman. So what

I recommend when you have an employee who comes in and complains about another

employee or co-worker...I basically say you know that doesn't sound like the

person to me, but I don't know anything about it. Why don't we get them in here

right now and have a conversation? And it completely changes the dynamic as you

can imagine. Because now the complainer has to face who they're complaining

about and if it's not truly rooted in a whole lot of reality they generally will

backpedal. And say, "Oh actually you know what, it's not that big of a deal. Things

are okay now." I don't want my employees to be so intimidated by the experience

that they have legitimate complaints that aren't going to come to light, but I

find that if it's really legitimate, knowing that you're there and having the

conversation with both parties as kind of a neutral backstop can really help

motivate them to want to have those conversations which have to be had.

Anyway so you're just kind of forcing the issue and asking them to come

together and have a conversation, but just saying, "I'm so sorry that's

happening let me find out what's going on. Let me talk to them," you're just

creating more and more of the same cycle. So you don't want to get yourself caught

in the middle there, you want to encourage them to have a direct

conversation with the person and be there to mediate it if necessary. Give

that a try and quit being the middleman.

English Tutor Nick P Lesson (252) Don't Say Sorry for Holding You - Duration: 1:22.

Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is lesson 252. The title of today's lesson is Don't Say Sorry for Holding You. "

Yeah. This is a mistake sometimes with students of ESL make. So let's take a look at the note

here. Sometimes students of ESL will say, sorry for holding you, when they are

trying to say they are sorry for making someone wait. Of course, students should

use the verb phrase to' hold someone up.' This mistake would imply that you are

physically holding a person. That's why you don't want to make this mistake, because

it sounds funny. You say sorry for holding me. Did you touch me ? Why are you saying

sorry for holding me ? So of course let's look at the examples here. First with the

X. This would be wrong. If somebody just said sorry for holding you. You should

say I'm sorry for holding you up. That's what you would have to say, or of course

you can also say I'm sorry for making you wait. I'm sorry for keeping you. Or

I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. I'm sorry for taking up your time. I'm

sorry for delaying you. So all those would be fine. Okay. Anyway

I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.

Top 10 MOST DANGEROUS Cities In The WORLD - Duration: 8:12.

Hey YouTube, Jim here!

Welcome to Top10Archive!

Ever wonder which parts of the world you should avoid altogether?

Maybe you're an avid traveler or are looking for a complete change of scenery and don't

want to stumble into the wrong cities.

We have you covered with these top ten most dangerous cities in the world.

To compile this list, a ratio of homicides per 100,000 residents was used.

As we gear up to frighten you away from certain parts of the globe, why not give us a subscribe

and click that bell for notifications on future Archives.

If you liked this video give it a thumbs up and if you happen to live in one of these

cities and want to defend it, say your peace in the comment section!

10.

Belem, Brazil It's a beautiful city in Brazil, but like

so many cities in the South American country, Belem may not be the safest place to plan

your travels.

As the tenth most dangerous city in the world, Belem suffers from a murder rate of 71.38

homicides for every 100,000 people.

If you do look past the .072% murder rate, you'll be able to enjoy sites like the Forte

de Presepio, Palacete Pinho, Mangal das Garcas park, and the Para State Museum.

9.

Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela At a population of just under 1 million people,

Ciudad Guayana saw 728 homicides in 2017.

Six years earlier, Ciudad Guayana was described by Latin America Current Events & News as

being "neglected" for "more than 7 years."

In Venezuela, Ciudad Guayana is the second most dangerous city with a murder rate of

.080%.

Guayana differs from surrounding cities as its construction is similar to suburbs of

1950's United States.

8.

Ciudad Victoria, Mexico The capital of Tamaulipas, this northeast

Mexican city is found at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental, though you may want to do

your best to avoid it.

In 2017, Ciudad Victoria was reported to have a homicide rate of 83.32 per 100,000 residents.

With a population of 361,078, that resulted in 301 homicides for the year.

The capital city isn't big on tourism, though there are several spots travelers may enjoy,

including the Tamatan Zoo, Tamaulipas Cultural Centre, and the Museum of Natural History

of Tamaulipas.

7.

Fortaleza, Brazil With a murder rate of .083%, Fortaleza, Brazil

is the seventh most dangerous city in the world, and locals seem to believe it.

Numbeo recorded that locals believe their city has a very high crime rate and a low

feeling of safety when walking during the day.

Though Carnival season in Fortaleza isn't as popular as with other cities in Brazil,

travelers are still advised to be cautious as crime tends to increase during the large

city's celebration.

6.

La Paz, Mexico By the end of 2017, the capital city of Baja

California Sur experienced 259 homicides for its population of 305,455 people.

Surprisingly, according to statistics recorded by Numbeo, locals feel that the level of crime

is moderate, though the increase over the past three years was recorded as high.

On multiple occasions, including a 2016 list compiled for CBS News, La Paz has been dubbed

one of the best places in the world to retire.

Despite its moderate homicide rate of .084%, La Paz is still a popular tourist destination

due to its many natural attractions.

5.

Tijuana, Mexico In January 2018, The San Diego Union-Tribune

reported that Tijuana's number of homicides broke records, nearly doubling its 2016 figure

of 910 murders.

At the end of the year, the Mexican city saw 1,744 homicides, a figure that's contested

by several sources that cite 1,897 murders.

At the start of 2018, the outlying development of Villa del Alamo greeted the new year with

the bodies of a man and a woman that were gunned down.

On the streets next to their bodies, a neatly penned message read "Welcome to 2018."

4.

Natal, Brazil One-thousand, three-hundred and seventy-eight

homicides occurred in the Brazilian city of Natal.

With a population of 1,343,573, the city experienced a homicide rate of .10% and, according to

Numbeo, the level of crime has increased exponentially over the past three years.

While the polling data for worries about being mugged and attacked are high to moderately

high, locals don't seem to feel the attacks are related to skin color, ethnicity, or religion.

Of course, that means anyone could be a target, which explains the very low feeling of safety

for walking alone during the day.

3.

Acapulco, Mexico For every 100,000 residents in 2017, Acapulco

saw 106.63 homicides.

In August, 2017, The Washington Post labeled Acapulco as Mexico's murder capital due to

its skyrocketing homicide rate.

Growth of the drug cartel increased drastically to a point where, by 2017, an estimated 20

gangs operated out of Acapulco.

Often contracting these "lesser" gangs are representatives from more dominant cartels

that control the area.

Much of the rising crime rate is believed to be linked to the January 2006 shootout

in La Garita.

2.

Caracas, Venezuela With a population of just over 3.04 million

people, Caracas, Venezuela experienced 3,387 homicides in 2017.

That gives you a .11% chance of being on the wrong end of a murder should you visit the

Venezuelan city.

While statistically, it doesn't rank as the most dangerous city in the world for 2017,

In 2015, a study performed by the Mexico City-based Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice

found that Caracas was the most violent city, with 119.87 homicides per 100,000 people.

Despite being the capital city of Venezuela, Caracas isn't well known for its tourism.

1.

Los Cabos, Mexico 2017 statistics of this Mexican city suggest

that there were 111.33 homicides per every 100,000 residents.

With a recorded population of 328,245 people, that means there were an estimated 365 homicides.

While it's far from a guarantee that you'll witness a murder during a trip to Los Cabos,

the rising crime rates have deterred American tourism to the local beaches.

In December 2017, six bodies were found strung up from bridges near a tourist resort.

Initial reports believed it was drug-related as hanging is a common M.O. for gangs.

Thanks for watching!

Let us know in the comments if you live in one of these cities or have visited there

and your impressions.

Eric And Donald Trump, Jr. Are Racking Up HUGE Secret Service Tabs - Duration: 4:22.

Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. sure know how to party, right?

I mean, these guys are millionaires, maybe even billionaires.

Who knows their actual net worth, because we'll never really get our hands on any of

the Trump family tax returns, but these guys are living the high life, and unfortunately

they're living the high life on taxpayer expense.

According to recently released documents by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in

Washington that they obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request, the Trump boys

have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Secret Service protection, money

that is coming from the taxpayers, and it's actually being spent at Trump-owned properties.

Now, CREW points out that this could very easily be considered and be charged as an

emoluments clause violation as both the president and his immediate family are benefiting from

the taxpayer dollars being spent by the Secret Service at Trump-owned properties.

Here's how bad it is.

Last February 2017, the two Trump boys combined cost the Secret Service and US taxpayers more

than $250,000 in one month.

Hell, the shortest month of the year, quarter of a million dollars that the Secret Service

spent at Trump-owned properties.

These were trips to go over to Dubai, to open a new Trump golf course, another trip ... I'm

sorry, let me find it here.

Where else did he go?

Dominican Republic.

That one only cost 20,000 though, and that was just Eric by himself trying to rebrand

and relaunch a Trump-owned property.

$75,000 spent on hotel rooms alone in that particular month.

$125,000 on airfare and 15,000 for other expenses at these Trump-owned properties.

This obviously is something that should piss off every American citizen, right?

I mean, we shouldn't have these Trump boys using the US Secret Service to globetrot around

the planet, opening up new properties, checking on other properties, making those same Secret

Service agents spend tax dollars at Trump properties so that those two morons get that

money back at the end of the day.

That's not how the federal government is supposed to work, and if you don't have a problem with

it, then you don't ever get to bitch about government spending again for the rest of

your life.

How about that?

How about we just make that a deal?

If you don't think it's wrong that the Trump boys can spend $250,000 worth of taxpayer

money in one single month at their own properties so that they get the money back, then you

don't get to complain about any government spending forever.

Because this, though not the biggest waste of government money that we've seen, is still

a massive waste of government money, especially considering the fact that the administration

announced this week they can't expand veterans' healthcare, so they're probably going to have

to cut it instead.

So we're going to cut healthcare for veterans, which Donald Trump tells us veterans are being

treated better than ever under his administration, but we're not going to say a word about his

two little idiot sons traveling around the world, spending our tax dollars, just so they

can check on their investments.

There needs to be more investigations into the Trump Administration, and I know that's

... There's already plenty going on, but clearly not enough, because this should not and by

all accounts is not legal, but most of the things that Trump has done haven't been legal.

Most of the things that Kushner has done, and Ivanka, and Eric, and Donald Jr., they

haven't exactly been legal, and we have enough lawsuits and investigations to show that.

Unfortunately, we still need a few more to really root out all of the corruption in this

family.

Trump Says He'll Never Stop Whining About The Media - Duration: 4:25.

Donald Trump is freaking out right now, not only over the fact that he committed some

treason on Monday with Vladimir Putin during that press conference, but also about the

fact that, that Russian spy agent who was infiltrating all these powerful organizations

and the Republican party was arrested, then it was revealed that she was also offering

them sex, not to mention the indictments of the 12 GRU officers.

So Donald Trump's a little uneasy right now.

So he's doing what he's done best and he's getting on Twitter and he's attacking the

fake news.

Well, when we say fake news, when Donald Trump says fake news, he really means any news that's

not flattering to him.

Here is what Donald Trump Tweeted out early this morning, "The fake news media's going

crazy.

They make up stories without any backup sources or proof, many of the stories written about

me and the good people surrounding me are total fiction.

Problem is, when you complain, you just give them more publicity, but I'll complain anyway."

So right there Donald Trump admits that yeah, it's a bad thing that I complain about them,

but then he also says, I'm never going to stop whining about it.

Ladies and gentlemen this is what you get when you elect a narcissist with delusions

of grandeur to be the President of the United States.

There have been very few articles that have come out since Donald Trump was the President

that were just out right false and the ones that have been false are the ones talking

about all the good things that he's done.

You know, the ones from Bright [Bard 00:01:40] and Daily Caller and Daily Wire and Daily

Moron, whatever they're called, and Fox News of course.

CNN, even the New York Times and Washington Post and MSNBC they've largely gotten it correct,

a hell of a lot more than anyone else, but Donald Trump can't handle that.

He can't handle the fact that even his own conservatives are starting to turn against

him at least in words, not in actions, because of how horrible he truly is and due to the

fact that this man obviously does not care about the United States.

Anything written about Trump or said about Trump even if true, if it's negative, it's

fake news to him and he is never, by his own admission going to stop complaining about

it.

Could you imagine, I mean I hate to do the what about-isms but seriously, if Barack Obama

had been this petty and spiteful during his Presidency, getting on Twitter talking about,

oh the fake news is saying I wasn't born in America again, witch hunt, I mean he had every

right to do that, but he didn't because he's an adult that knows how to keep his emotions

in check, unlike the elderly man currently sitting in the White House.

I mean seriously, Donald Trump is in his early 70's and he has nothing better to do with

his time as President of the United States than to get on social media with a bunch of

bots and talk about the fake news?

I would have to think that there is probably a least one thing more pressing for the President

to be doing, anything.

Maybe go check on the folks in Puerto Rico and up FEMA's budget so that they could actually

help down there.

I don't know, that's just one thing.

Maybe check on Flint Michigan, get them some clean water, maybe work on not being such

a jackass every time you get in front of a camera.

Those are three right off the top of my head, but no.

You spend your time whining and moaning like a 15 year old child about how the news media's

so mean to you and bullying you and life's not fair and you can go lock yourself in the

oval office and play some simple plan, right, because that's essentially how you're acting

right now.

This little temper tantrum that you throw on a daily basis about the fake news, I hope

every Republican that sees this understands that you elected a child to be the President

of the United States and all of this horrible behavior, all of the things that everybody

makes fun of him for doing, that is on you at the end of the day.

The Invisible Pipes Glitch - Super Mario Maker - Duration: 8:20.

Imagine you are an italian plumber, on an important mission to save your love, and probably

the rest of the world.

You just jumped over countless bottomless pits, you just got ouched by running into

a saw blade, which made you shrink.

You just escaped countless horrible creatures, some of them spit fire, others threw wrenches

at you.

In this hostile and horrifying world, even the dogs try to eat you.

And then, then you suddenly stand in an empty room with a single p-switch.

There is nothing threatening here, just this single innocent p-switch.

Would you press it?

I don't know how I would decide in such a situation, but I know that Mario decided

to press it, which turned out to be a horrible mistake.

So hello, you lovely mario maker ladies and gentlemen, my name is ceave, and today we

are going to take a look at psycrows amazing invisible pipe glitch.

So are you ready?

Let's do this!

So first we are going to take a look at a mini level that showcases a couple of uses

for the invisible pipe glitch and afterwards we are going to take a look at how to set

this up.

Here Mario finds himself in one of bowsers many castles.

But this castle is no ordinary castle, since there are a lot of strange things going on

here.

The very beginning of this castle features a dangerous muncher that randomly shoots out

of the wall, coins that behave really strange and pow blocks that are seemingly conjured

out of thin air.

But this is just the beginning, it's the next room where things start to become really

weird.

Here a wiggler trigger entrapes mario in this room until it expires.

Meanwhile cannons start to drop from the ceiling, which makes surviving in this room a rather

complicated task for our plumber.

Mario thought he has seen it all, he survived dangerous lava worlds that only consisted

of food, he survived alone in space and he played more matches of tennis than anyone

would consider to be healthy.

But cannons that suddenly start to drop from the ceiling, is something new.

Next a simple platforming challenge awaits him.

This one is easy to understand.

Just jump over all those pillars, and don't get eaten by a dog.

Simple stuff.

The weird thing is once again that these chain chomps seem to appear out of nowhere.

Then Mario needs to make his way on top of a couple of conveyor belts.

This wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the goombas that live inside the conveyor

belts, and now try to hurt our heroic princess saver.

That's almost the end.

Now only a single room with a goomba shoe is left, followed by a drop into the unknown.

But what horror will mario await at the bottom of this pit?

Are there dangerous moles down there, that appear out of thin air?

Or horrific lava bubbles, evil Koopas or ouching spikes?

Well the answer is … it's just a couple of sawblades, on which Mario is able to jump

because of his fabulous goomba shoe!

Or so he thought.

These saw blades are no ordinary saw blades, but they live inside of some clown cars because

of some evil glitch magic!

Mario manages to survive nonetheless.

Hooray!

Okay so what was going on in this stage.

Well it's actually really really weird.

So first of all huge shoutout to Psycrow.

These tricks are all part of the endless list of game breaking, but awesome glitches psycrow

discovered.

All these tricks were done using the game genie technique.

So what is the game genie technique, well it's one of video gaming strangest glitch

setups.

So first we need to clone thwomps using the standard black hole trick, by deleting bullet

blasters and undoing, while using this setup.

This clones the twomps at the top.

Once we have enough thwomps to form a black hole we can start the set up, and this is

where stuff becomes really crazy.

We want to do this at the very right side of the stage.

So first we place two tracks behind the thwomps so that they form a cross.

Then we remove the thwomps, start the game, go back in edit mode again, select the item

on the cross and drag it all the way to the other side of the stage.

Now we enter the underground and go back up.

We move the item one block, go back to the original item, hit undo there, go back to

the original item once again, tap our nose three times with our ring finger, select the

item, drag it back to the new one, and delete it there while it is still selected.

And hooray, we did the set up to make an item believe that it is on tracks.

This setup might sound a little bit crazy at first glance, but once you've done it

a couple of times it becomes really easy to pull off.

The nose tapping part is optional by the way, but I would really recommend not to skip it

because of swag.

Don't forget that once we did this setup with a thwomp on tracks once, we are able

to create a new black hole with the thwomp that believes it's on tracks really fast.

So there are several things we can do now with this item.

First we can put it into an invisible pipe.

All we need to do in order to do so, is to get a pipe, put something in, duplicate the

pipe, get the item we put in out of the duplicated one, hit undo, pull the pipe over, pull out

the glitched item, and the item of the original pipe and hit undo twice.

Now we can delete everything, but our item which now believes it is inside a pipe.

Hooray.

So there are tons and tons of different cool things possible with this trick.

The invisible pipes are just one of the many many things.

We can do the same setup with a clown car to get a saw blade into a clown car for example,

or we can do the setup with shelmets and clouds to get this result.

Psycrow did a huge video over at blue television games, where he explains how all the different

setups and glitches work a while ago and I highestly recommend everyone who hasn't

seen the video to check it out.

It's really really amazing, and everything showed there can still be pulled off.

Just keep in mind that the setup for the black hole glitch changed.

The link to the video is in the description.

Psycrow even discovered a really awesome new trick possible with this setup recently.

In our last video we took a look at this lag design which psycrow made.

Here fireflowers weren't able to spawn anymore because the absolute entity limit that mario

maker is able to handle was reached.

Once this limit is reached the game is practically destroyed.

Let's call it entity limit D, for destruction.

It's actually possible to overflow this entity limit in the current mario maker version

by copying blocks that believe they are on tracks.

Here we use a donut block that believes it's on tracks to do so.

We can copy this one as often as we want, since the game believes that the donut block

comes from the entity limit for blocks, but is actually managed by the entity limit for

entities.

So once we have 500 to 600 of these blocks copied, a couple of really interesting things

start to happen.

First, fire flower fireballs don't appear most of the time.

Donut blocks stop to fall down, bowser stops to spit stuff, big goombas don't split into

two small goombas but go puuff instead.

Blocks don't play their destruction animation anymore, hammer bros start to behave socially

appropriate, and most interestingly.

Everything that is set above the donut blocks doesn't load anymore.

If we put this hammer bros one block higher he doesn't spawn anymore.

I can only guess as to why this happens, but it's probably because the game loads entities

from the bottom to the top, so once the donut block is loaded, the hard limit for entities

is reached and no new ones are allowed to appear.

What's really interesting about this is that it also works for doors.

So the door at the top isn't able to load anymore, but it can still be entered by the

other one.

This gives us the perfect one way door, since it can only be accessed from one side.

I'm not entirely sure how to put this trick to good use, since levels that use it will

probably become deleted immediately since we are clearly above the maximum entity limit.

As for the invisible pipe glitch, as long as you don't use more entities than normally

allowed it should be possible to upload a stage using this trick, but be aware that

it still violates nintendo's no glitch policy, and sadly will probably get removed.

But it's definitely a lot of fun to toy around with it nonetheless!

Huge shoutout to psycrow for finding all of those glitches, for telling me about them,

and for finding them again once they were patched.

There is a lot more possible with this setup and we will take a closer look at some of

these tricks in the future.

I hope all of you enjoyed this little video, if you enjoyed it don't forget to leave

me a thumbs up and maybe you feel especially, like inside an invisible pipe today, and want

to hit the subscribe button as well.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful day and to see you soon.

Goodbye!

Zedd - Happy Now (Lyrics) With Elley Duhé - Duration: 3:28.

Are you happy now

So won't you tell me, babe

So I shut my mouth

There's nothing left to say

Are you happy now

In a foreign place

Somewhere in the crowd

World away

Are you happy now

Are you happy now

So won't you tell me, babe

So I shut my mouth

There's nothing left to say

Are you happy now

In a foreign place

Somewhere in the crowd

You're a world away

And lonely

The wash in the weight of your pockets, so deep

And only you know the strength in your teeth

But don't you dare ask me how I've been

You keep on talking sweet till your fingers bleed

Spin me around in circles till I'm wrapped in string

In the palm of your hands, You can make me dance

Are you happy now

Are you happy now

So won't you tell me, babe

So I shut my mouth

There's nothing left to say

Are you happy now

In a foreign place

Somewhere in the crowd

You're a world away

And lonely

The wash in the weight of your pockets, so deep

And only you know the strength in your teeth

Strung over your shoulder till it's all in vain

And you hold all the cards, all the broken hearts

Leave me just as empty as the day you came

You're the only one who can up and run

Are you happy now

So won't you tell me, babe

So I shut my mouth

There's nothing left to say

Are you happy now

In a foreign place

Somewhere in the crowd

You're a world away

2nd Battle Of The Marne - Turning Point On The Western Front I THE GREAT WAR Week 208 - Duration: 11:02.

This week, after nearly four months of withstanding the might of the Kaiserschlacht, the German

Spring Offensives, week after week after week, the Allied counter attack finally comes.

I'm Indy Neidell; welcome to the Great War.

Last week there was a lot of action far to the east in Siberia, but it was primarily

a week of planning, as the Germans finalized plans for their next Western Front Offensive,

even in the face of a deadly flu epidemic.

That offensive, which would be known as the Second Battle of the Marne, kicked into gear

this week.

The Germans were going to attack with Crown Prince Wilhelm's 49 divisions.

One of the goals was to open a second railway line to the Marne, and also to draw off Allied

reserves from Flanders in the north for an attack up there that would happen in just

a few days.

The Allies knew exactly when this week's attack was coming, though, so French and American

artillery bombarded the German front lines and jumping off points half an hour before

the German bombardment began.

The German barrage was still pretty strong, though, for example raining 17,500 rounds

of gas on the sector of front held by the American Rainbow Division.

Then the Germans went over the top east of Reims... and found that the French trenches

weren't exactly trenches.

Well, okay, they WERE trenches, but they were only lightly manned, and the German bombardment

had been wasted on them.

The Germans overran these and killed what few defenders there were, but the "real"

trenches further back were basically untouched, and of course, full of French soldiers.

French General Philippe Petain, after pushing so hard for so long for the French to use

a defense in depth system to neutralize the German shock troop advantage, had finally

gotten his wish and General Henri Gouraud had implemented it, and as the Germans advanced

on the manned trenches, they came under heavy fire from French and American artillery.

The Chief of Staff of the Rainbow Division, Douglas MacArthur, said, "When they met

the dikes of our real line, they were exhausted, uncoordinated, and scattered, incapable of

going on without being reorganized and reinforced."

That was east of Reims.

West of Reims where the French under Jean Degoutte, and the French and Italians under

Henri Berthelot were using the old system with the men too far forward, the Germans

were quickly successful, though their failure in the east meant that those successful troops

were dangerously exposed, so they called off the attack in the west.

But it had to keep going somewhere, because it was essential to draw Allied reserves away

from Flanders before the German attack up there.

On the 16th, the German bombardment was renewed, now against the French and Americans in Champagne

- including half a million gas shells.

Over the next two days, it seemed like the Germans would break through - and that could've

been the decisive breakthrough, but (Gilbert) in one sector French gunners knocked out all

20 German tanks, in another fewer than 4,000 Americans- outnumbered three to one- held

their ground in vicious hand to hand fighting, while overhead, 225 French bombers with 40

tons of bombs dropped them on the bridges the Germans had set up across the River Marne.

Near Chateau-Thierry, the American 3rd Division managed to blow up every single pontoon bridge

the Germans set up in the whole sector, earning itself the sobriquet "the Rock of the Marne."

But the Germans kept on coming, pouring into the river in the face of machine guns and

infantry, to the point that, by noon that day, as American General Joseph T. Dickman

would write (Gilbert), "There were no Germans in the foreground of the Third Division except

the dead."

The Americans also took heavy casualties holding back the tide.

On the 17th, Italians troops that had been brought in stopped the Germans at Nanteuil-Pourcy.

On the morning of the 18th, German Quartermaster General Erich Ludendorff had a conference

with his command where he the first thing he did was dismiss any possibility of an Allied

counterattack in the south.

Then they talked about tactical options if the British in Flanders used the same new

defense system the French just had.

And then around noon came the word that Allied Supreme Commander Ferdinand Foch had in fact

launched an Allied counter attack.

It kicked off with a 2,000 gun artillery barrage along just over a 40km front.

French General Charles Mangin led 23 divisions - four of them American - following nearly

500 tanks in an attack to try and recapture Soissons and seal off the German salient.

David Stevenson writes in "With Our Backs to the Wall", "Not for the last time,

the Germans were wholly surprised.

Part of the reason was overconfidence: Crown Prince Wilhelm had thought the Allies too

weak both to defend Reims and to counterattack."

But the Allies had agreed that surprise was absolutely crucial for success, so concentrating

the forces leading up to the attack was done in just four days - well, nights, since it

was all done in darkness, and the tanks were hidden in the forest.

This counterattack was huge, on a total front of over 100km by four armies, but the spearhead

was the 1st and 2nd American Divisions and the 1st Moroccan Division, who were largely

Senegalese.

The bulk of the tanks were light Renaults, armed with machine guns, that could go, like,

13-14 km/hour, and they attacked out of the mist.

The German lines broke and they were driven back some 7 km. 20,000 Germans were taken

prisoner, as well as 400 big guns.

As the week came to an end, though, Mangin was stopped before he could reach Soissons,

and there were some seriously heavy Allied casualties - for example, the Italian Corps

fighting on the 19th lost a third of its strength, but after just the first two days, now the

Germans might have no realistic hope left of taking Reims, and the German threat to

Paris would then be no more, but more importantly, if the Marne salient became unholdable, Ludendorff

would have no real choice but to postpone the Flanders offensive indefinitely.

There is a story from this week, maybe true maybe not, of a ruse devised by a couple of

American engineers.

A briefcase with fake plans for the counterattack was handcuffed to a man who had died of pneumonia,

right?

Then they put him in a vehicle that looked like it had run off the road at a German-controlled

bridge.

The Germans found the plans and believed them, then adjusted their own plans to stop the

fake Allied plan.

So when the Allied attack came, it came elsewhere and hit an exposed part of the German lines,

leaving them no choice but to retreat.

Again, I don't know if this is true or not.

Something that is true from that front is that on the 16th, a German Flying Ace named

Hermann Göring shot down his 22nd plane, and three days previously had taken command

of the Richthofen Squadron.

That squadron was named after Baron von Richthofen, the Red Baron, who'd been killed in April.

There was Central Powers action on other fronts this week as well.

On July 13th, using mainly German troops, General Liman von Sanders attacks British

General Edmund Allenby's bridgehead on the east bank of the Jordan River, Northeast of

Jericho, but Australian troops push back the attackers.

This attack worried the British command though, who thought that if Sanders made such an attack

on the Arab Revolt forces east of the river and won, the British flanks would be exposed

and their plans for an autumn offensive ruined.

One Central Powers offensive had hit some snags, though.

Nuri Pasha's Army of Islam was advancing at a crawl through the Caucasus toward Baku.

The summer heat, the lack of sufficient drinking water, and poor supply lines would've slowed

any army, but his was now wracked by an epidemic of dysentery.

By the time his forces reached Kurdamir, he estimated he had only 4,000 soldiers that

were really fit for active fighting.

Add to that that the Azeri militia were deserting in droves, so he had only around 8,000 men

at the moment available to try and take Baku and its oilfields, but he would try at the

end of the month.

As for those defending the city.

On the 15th, after skirmishing west of it and nearly being encircled, Colonel Bicherakov

comes to the conclusion that his Cossacks, even bolstered by the Armenians and the Red

Guard, cannot stop the Ottomans with their artillery in the open field.

They retreated toward the city's environs to plan the defense there.

And here are two notes to end the week.

On July 16th, 1918, Tsar Nicholas Romanov and his family were executed at Yekaterinburg,

capital of Red Ural, by order of the Ural Regional Soviet.

Deposed by the February Revolution last year, Nicholas had been the force that guided Russia

into this war four years ago.

There was also news this week from another initial guiding force of the war; on July

15th, after the huge failure of the July Austrian offensive in Italy, Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf

is dismissed and placed on the retired list.

He is also raised from Freiherr to Graf, so like from Baron to Count, but for Conrad this

war is over.

And this week of the war ends, with yet another German offensive, but a mighty Allied counter

attack that, as the week ends, is a success.

A German failure in the Middle East, setbacks in the Caucasus, and the death of a Tsar.

Well, he was no longer the Tsar.

You know, when you think about it, there's nearly no one left.

The leaders - the men who guided the world into this war or led the armies, or both,

3 years and 50 weeks ago - they're almost all gone.

Call the roll: Nicholas, Conrad, Franz Josef, Moltke, Joffre, French, Putnik - they're

all gone.

Only Enver Pasha and Kaiser Wilhelm remain at their posts from those 1914 days, and even

the Kaiser's power has been reduced by army command.

It's now different men, fighting with different weapons and different tactics, and it's

also a totally, totally different world.
