Youtube daily report w Jul 17 2018

Today I'm going to talk to you about phrasal verbs that have to do with speaking.

That's coming up.

Many of you out there would like to practice and improve your speaking skills.

Many of you would also like to learn phrasal verbs and learn how to use them.

So in today's lesson, I'm going to combine

those two ideas, and talk to you about phrasal verbs that deal with speaking.

Let's start with the verb TALK.

And the first phrasal verb I have for you and possibly

the most common is TALK TO.

And when you talk to someone you are directly speaking to another person.

I suppose that you could also talk to some thing as well.

Most of the time we're talking about another person.

You talk to someone.

This is very similar to another phrasal verb TALK WITH.

And they're basically interchangeable.

You are speaking directly with another person.

Talk to. Talk with.

The only difference is that talking with...

...it really implies that there is another person you're having a conversation with.

So for example, I could talk to myself in the mirror.

I wouldn't really say talk with because there's no other person involved.

So that's why I think it's a little more common to talk to someone or something.

Now if you are out there and you are looking for somebody to talk to or talk with,

I highly recommend that you check out Lingoda

who was kind enough to sponsor today's lesson.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Lingoda,

they are an online language school that offers courses

in English, and German, Spanish, and French.

And all of their courses are taught by highly trained

professional teachers who are all native speakers.

I have some first-hand experience learning with Lingoda

because I took some classes in Spanish

and the teachers and the lessons were great.

And it was a really, really good experience.

They offer both group and private classes.

And they're available 24 hours a day.

And that's important because it doesn't matter where in the world you live

teachers and classes are always available.

Upon completing a sufficient number of courses

you can receive a CEF our certificate showing your level of comprehension.

And then you can use these certificates for university, for visa applications, your CV.

There are many different uses.

Now Lingoda has kindly offered everyone here at interactive English

a discount of $50 or 50 euro.

All you need to do is click on the link in the description

and then put in the code WES.

That's my name. Just put that code in. Simple as that.

And the next thing you know, you will be talking to a native English speaker.

The next phrasal verb using talk is to TALK (someone) UP.

Notice that someone goes in between the verb and the preposition.

And when you talk someone up, then you are just speaking very enthusiastically about this person.

So if you're in a group of friends, you can talk him up, you can talk her up.

Maybe you could talk me up and tell everyone about Interactive English.

Another good example is like in in a job interview.

You go in there and you want to talk yourself up because you want to show them that you're the best.

To talk someone up.

Another phrasal verb which is not so good is to TALK BACK to someone.

And this means that you are replying to someone in a rude manner and you're not being polite.

So for example, if there's a conversation and somebody

tells you to do something, and you don't want to and you're angry.

You might talk back to this person.

Often, you hear it in situations like children talk back to their parents.

Maybe employees sometimes talk back to their boss.

But when you're talking back to someone, you are not being very nice.

And more often than not, you should be polite in these situations.

But instead you're talking back.

Now let's look at SPEAK.

Because there are several phrasal verbs using this verb.

The first one I want to talk to you about is SPEAK UP.

And this just means to raise your voice and make it a little louder.

So often, if you're having a conversation

somebody might ask you to speak up because they can't really hear you well.

They don't know what you're saying.

You might hear this when talking on the phone.

Because there's other noises and maybe it's difficult to understand somebody.

So they might say, "Hey, could you please speak up a little?"

We can change this meaning completely by adding another preposition

to make it a three-word phrasal verb.

And that is SPEAK UP FOR someone.

And if you are speaking up for someone, then you are

just defending this person.

So you may want to defend this person because

they're being attacked, and you want to speak up for him, or speak up for her, or maybe even speak up for yourself.

Now, we can remove up and make it a two-word phrasal verb once again with another new meaning.

And when you speak for someone you're basically

representing this person's beliefs, this person's opinion.

You are speaking for this other person.

Often is used in some context where there's a group of people, and you might say...

You know, I speak for everyone when I say this opinion or this belief.

So for example, I could say...I think I speak for everyone when I say you should hit that LIKE button.

Another phrasal verb, which is so, so, so common is this one right here.

And that is SHUT UP.

Now, this phrasal verb is important because it does have a couple of different meanings.

The first one, which I think most of us probably think of, is firmly or angrily telling someone to be quiet.

You don't want this person talking anymore.

You want them to close their mouth.

You don't want anymore sounds coming out.

You might tell them "Shut up."

The other way that this phrasal verb is used

is kind of to express disbelief.

So somebody says something that is outrageous.

That you can't believe it, and you might just say "No. Shut up."

Shut up.

Really? Shut up.

So in this case, it's not really used to be rude or mean.

You're basically expressing your disbelief.

You can't believe what you're hearing.

Shut up

Now I want to practice what we've learned.

And in the comments, I want to hear from you.

So I want you to write a sentence using one of these phrasal verbs.

And to help you out, you can even answer one of these questions.

Write to us in the comments. Practice using these phrasal verbs.

Because to be perfectly honest, that is the best way

to remember the meaning and really understand how to use them.

I would please ask you to talk up Interactive English.

You can share this lesson with your friends, your classmates.

Anybody you know who's trying to practice and improve their English skills.

And also don't forget to click on the link

in the description to get your discount and start talking to a native English speaker.

Thanks so much for watching, and I'll see you next time.

Should You Call the Cops on Your House Cleaner or Maid? - Duration: 8:59.

Should you call the cops if you know your house cleaner is stealing from you?

Great question and we're going to talk about that today.

Hi, there. I'm Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner.

This is the show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,

and I get to help you find an answer.

Today's show is brought to us by HouseCleaning360.com

If your house cleaner is stealing from you, it is time for you to get a new house cleaner,

and you can find one on HouseCleaning360.com

We have house cleaners from all over the globe that have listed their businesses so that

if you're looking for somebody who's really good at what they do, you can find them on

HouseCleaning360.com

If you are a house cleaner and you have not added your business yet, go there and add

it so that people can find you.

All right.

On to today's question, which is from a homeowner who was anticipating a great relationship

with her house cleaner, and the house cleaner did a pretty good job.

But as she started bringing people, she noticed some things were missing.

She says, "Huh, maybe I'm going crazy.

Certainly my house cleaners would not be stealing from me."

So, she started planting money around the house in order that if the house cleaners

were not stealing, they wouldn't take it, but if they did in fact steal, the money would

disappear.

Well, the money started disappearing as she put out cameras and more money.

She was able to catch her house cleaners red-handed stealing money from her.

Now she wants to know am I supposed to go to the cops?

Or do I deal with this just with the house cleaning company?

What would you do?

It was an interesting question for me, because my experience has been over the years that

people don't steal for kicks.

Most people, if they are going to steal, they steal because times are really tight.

They're in a bind.

They're in debt.

They have families to feed and they need the money.

So, my heart goes out to those people.

It's heartbreaking when people are in that tough of a situation that they have to make

a moral judgment that, "Hey, I'm going to break what I know is true."

Because we all know that stealing is not okay.

It's a bad thing.

When they make that decision, "I'm going to go against my conscience.

I'm going to go against my beliefs.

I'm going to take something that does not belong to me in order to survive."

That is heartbreaking on so many levels.

Now, having said that, I have to take the position of the homeowner for this reason.

You live in a home, and your responsibility is to protect your family and your home.

If you have home security cameras, and you have security systems or whatever, and you're

trying to provide security for your family, and you have a house cleaner that comes in

and steals from you, they're going to steal from someone else.

It is your job to protect your family.

So, I have two things to say right now.

House cleaners, no matter how bad it gets, do not steal from someone else.

If it does not belong to you, do not take it.

In my company, we have a policy that do not take

as much as a leftover piece of Halloween candy.

If it is not yours, it does not belong to you.

If there's a big bowl of leftover Halloween from Trick or Treating, and it's sitting there

on the cupboard and they did not offer it to you, it is not yours.

Do not eat it.

That is stealing.

You have to draw the line somewhere, and that sounds a little radical, but the answer is

if you don't take anything that does not belong to you, it is black and white.

There are no gray areas.

Well, I just kind of took this because it looked like it was old and they were getting

ready to throw it out.

You can justify anything.

And, oh, believe me.

I have seen so many justifications in this business that never should be.

If it is not yours, do not take it.

All right, now the flip side for the homeowner, I have to say this.

If someone steals from you, and you have proof and it's on camera, and you know they are

taking things like money and other things from you, you must press charges.

Here's the reason why.

What happens when you let that go is your enabling that person to continue.

Yes, you might fire that house cleaner, but they're going to get another account and they're

going to go into someone else's house and they're going to steal from someone else.

Now, that doesn't fix their problem.

Their problem is either they need to get a better job, or they need to work more hours,

or they need to get better pay.

Those are their options.

Stealing is not an option.

That's not how we run our society is on theft.

If you go out into the real world and you steal over a certain amount, that's considered larceny.

I think it's $1,000 in America.

Over $1,000, you go to jail.

That is a felony, okay?

That's bad, and if we enable little stealing, little stealing leads to bigger stealing.

If we have somebody who's trying to put food on the table because times are tight, we don't

want to enable behavior that leads them to a bigger steal, that then takes them off the

market so that they can't work and provide for their families.

So, you're actually doing them a disservice when you let it slide.

Now, as a housecleaning business owner, this happens a lot.

People will come to me and they're just mortified to find out that staff members of theirs have

stolen something.

They say, "What on earth do I do?

This is so incredibly embarrassing.

How am I supposed to make this right?"

All right, this is a very sticky situation, because you know that somebody in your company

stole something even if the customer doesn't know.

If you know, and you're the employer, that your employees are stealing, you need to recoup

those items and you need to go back to the homeowner and you need to sit down and have

a heart-to-heart chat and say, "Oh, my goodness.

I am so sorry.

I just found out we've been stealing from you.

My company does not allow that under any circumstances,

and I am mortified and embarrassed to find

out this has been happening.

We've had to let this person go, and we've pressed charges, and I want to give you the

goods back that were taken from your house.

I'm so sorry.

I understand if you need to let us go, but I just wanted to let you know, heads up, so

that there are no surprises, and do you don't find out later on, and then know that I found

out, and I knew, and I wasn't telling you, because that's not forthright."

If you come clean, and you are upright and forthright with your customers.

It's an awful conversation to have.

I've had to have it a couple of times over the years, and it's just, oh my goodness,

so embarrassing.

But, when you own your problems and you take responsibility as the business owner.

Because even if you didn't steal it, if you're the business owner, that is now your problem.

So, your job and your responsibility is to go back to the person who had faith in you,

who hired you in the first place, and gave you money, which is your income.

And, yeah, you put that in jeopardy when you go back and you tell them the truth, like

I said, even if they don't know that they've been stolen from.

But when you come clean, what happens is this.

It has a ricocheting effect.

It's an effect that comes back to you.

It goes out into the market and then comes back.

It's like throwing the pebble in the pond, and those little vibrations go all the way

out through the pond, but it affects everything around you.

What happens is, people talk.

So, someone will say, "Well, my house cleaner stole from me."

And they'll say, "You should hire my house cleaner.

Someone in their company stole from me, too, but they came to my house.

They brought the goods back.

They made it right, and they let the person go.

They have integrity and they would not ever do this."

So, you have a better chance with a company who's going to come clean, and they're going

to admit when they break things.

They're going to admit when things are stolen.

They're going to admit when they screwed up.

People would rather hire a company that is not perfect, that makes mistakes, but owns

those mistakes, than people that try to just scoop it up, or they just fire the client

so they don't get a bad rating in review.

I will take the bad rating in review any day if we can clear up something we screwed up on.

Because if we screwed up on it and we take ownership, what happens is those people tell

their friends, "No, no, that's out of character for them.

They own their mistakes."

We're all human.

We are all going to make mistakes.

Our employees are going to make mistakes.

Our staff members are going to make mistakes.

But if you catch a staff member or an employee of a cleaning company and they are stealing

stuff red-handed, you do not have any other options except to tell the company, and say,

"Hey, we want to keep your company on.

We like you as house cleaners.

This particular house cleaner is not allowed to come back to our house because she stole

stuff from us, and we will be pressing charges against this particular house cleaner."

You need to let them know from day one, here are our standards, and if we don't live up

those standards, I personally am responsible.

Alrighty, that's my two cents for today, and until we meet again,

leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.

Question: How can one move forward from the past? | Life Without Limbs - Duration: 0:59.

We got a message from Mohit,

saying that her sister is depressed

because of the failures of the past and her history.

And you know, how does she get out of that depression?

What can we do to help her out?

First thing, is to let her know that you love her, and that maybe you don't understand

what she is going through,

but also know that this life is really an arc of education,

and sometimes we have to learn from our own experiences.

Wether it was a decision or a choice that she made that didn't turn out well,

or just circumstances around her.

Whatever our past is, sometimes it's good to talk with somebody

maybe encourage her to talk to a trusted counselor or a trusted adult,

someone who's experienced with talking, and encouraging people.

and I just want you to know keep praying for it, and be there for her.

That's the greatest thing you can ever do.

Lawn Sign Larry: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com - Duration: 13:58.

Lawn Sign Larry: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

"Lawn Sign Larry" is the nickname many have given the Charlotte, North Carolina man who drove his pickup truck up to the home of Tin Nguyen and let loose a racist rant after he spotted a "F*** Trump" sign in the front yard.

Nguyen, a Vietnamese American lawyer, captured the whole interaction on video and posted it to his twitter account.

You can watch the video here, but be aware that it contains extreme, offensive language.

The video shows a man in a blue t-shirt and jeans standing on Nguyen's front lawn pointing to a yard sign that says "F*** Trump.

Nguyen, dressed only in a towel, asks, "why do you care?".

Lawn Sign Larry yells, "Because of my kids! If it said Hillary Clinton, I wouldn't give a f***.

If it said Bernie Sanders, I voted for Bernie Sanders, I wouldn't give a f***.

F*** you.

I drive by and it smells like motherf***ing weed in your house.".

"Who cares?" yells Nguyen.

"That's why the cops are coming right now," yells Lawn Sign Larry.

He races back towards his car, only to turn around and yell, "Alright, bye.

I'm going to get you, n*****.

N*****, n*****, n*****," slapping his thighs.

Tin Nguyen did not respond to initial requests for comment.

Rumors have been circulating about Lawn Sign Larry's identity, but it has not yet been verified.

Here's what you need to know.

Lawn Sign Larry Threatened to Call the Cops.

Then He Started Dropping N-Bombs.

*White supremacy on the front door* Dear family – this just happened at our house.

While watching copa mundial, I hear a banging on the door.

I don't open the door, but ask what he wants.

He says he walks pass the house everyday with his children and he is concerned about the "Fuck Trump" sign.

I respond that it's my right to say whatever I want on my own property.

I then tell him to get off our property, and this is what ensues.

White supremacy is running amok, and these people are emboldened af to assert their white supremacy over us.

A post shared by Tin Nguyen (@tinntonic) on Jul 15, 2018 at 12:50pm PDT.

The interaction between Nguyen and Larry escalated quickly.

After a few minutes, Lawn Sign Larry said that the house smelled like marijuana.

"Who cares?" yelled Nguyen.

That's when Lawn Sign Larry threatened to call the police.

"That's why the cops are coming right now!" he yells.

Then, racing across the lawn and manically rapping on his own thighs, he screams, "all right, bye.

I'm going to get you, n*****.

N*****, n*****, n*****.".

Nguyen reacts calmly.

A female voice, apparently also in Nguyen's house, can be heard reacting with mild annoyance to Larry.

During His Expletive-Lased Rant, Lawn Sign Larry Also Complained About the Offensive Language in Nguyen's Lawn Sign.

Almost every other rant in Lawn Sign Larry's rant is a curse or an offensive insult.

(Actually, almost every word out of Nguyen's mouth is a curse too.

Neither man was calm.).

But Larry says that he stopped to talk to Nguyen because he was offended by the language on Nguyen's "F*** Trump" yard sign.

He said that he walks by the house every day with his children and was worried that his kids would see the offensive language.

Larry clarifies that he doesn't mind the anti-Trump sentiment on the sign.

He says he wouldn't have minded if Nguyen had a pro-Clinton sign up in his yard, or a pro-Bernie Sanders.

What Larry's upset about is the f-word.

Lawn Sign Larry Says He Was a Bernie Sanders Voter.

Lawn Sign Larry told Nguyen that he wouldn't have minded if he had a Bernie Sanders sign on his lawn.

In fact, he said that he voted for Bernie.

At this point in the video, Larry's hand started shaking so hard that it looked like a blur.

He did not say who he voted for in the general election.

Nguyen Says He Has Now Been Blocked From Posting On Facebook.

FB just blocked me for posting the video.

How the fuck they gonna block me? A post shared by Tin Nguyen (@tinntonic) on Jul 15, 2018 at 7:28pm PDT.

Nguyen says that Facebook blocked him from posting anything for the next three days, because of "the video.

" Presumably he means the video with Lawn Sign Larry, which he has posted to his twitter and his instagram accounts.

Nguyen's friends commented on the post, speculating that someone must have "reported" the video.

Facebook warns that "If you post something that goes against our standards again, your account will be blocked for seven days.

For violations after that, your account will be blocked for even longer.".

The notice does not specify which standards were violated, or how.

Nguyen, a lawyer who describes himself as a "legal samurai," has participated in Charlotte Uprising rallies.

He's also a member of a coalition of North Carolina non-profits called Queen City Unity.

Nguyen has posted on Instagram about his mother, whom he says lived in a refugee camp as a child.

He says her story inspires him to fight for the rights of immigrants in America.

Psoriasis - What is Psoriasis | Psoriasis Symptoms | Psoriasis Treatment | Psoriasis Diet & Causes - Duration: 4:19.

Psoriasis Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition caused

by an overactive immune system.

Symptoms include flaking, inflammation, and thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin.

Psoriasis can affect any part of the body, but it most commonly develops behind the elbows

and knees, as well as the scalp, back, face, palms, and feet.

Who Can Get Psoriasis?

It can strike at any time in your life, but tends to first develop between the ages of

15 and 30 or between the ages of 50 and 60.

Psoriasis can occur in men and women and in people of all races.

Psoriasis is not contagious, so if your rash accidentally rubs on someone else or another

person touches it, you don't have to worry about spreading it.

Symptoms of Psoriasis The common symptoms of psoriasis include:

Raised, red, inflamed lesions.

Silvery scaly plaques.

Small, red, individual spots (more common in children and young adults).

Dry skin that may crack and bleed.

Itching, burning, or soreness of the skin.

Pitted nails or separation from the nail bed.

Causes of Psoriasis Common psoriasis triggers include: Dry skin.

An injury to your skin, such as a cut, scrape, insect bite or sunburn.

Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.

Smoking.

Stress.

Certain medicines.

Infections.

Genetics.

Diagnosis of Psoriasis In most cases, diagnosis of psoriasis is fairly

straightforward.

Your doctor usually can diagnose psoriasis by taking your medical history and examining

your skin, scalp and nails.

Rarely, your doctor may take a small sample of skin, which is then examined under a microscope

to determine the exact type of psoriasis and to rule out other disorders.

Psoriasis Treatment Find out what triggers, if any, worsen your

psoriasis and take steps to prevent or avoid them.

Taken from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, aloe extract cream may reduce redness, scaling,

itching and inflammation.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements may reduce inflammation associated with psoriasis,

although results from studies are mixed.

Arsenal transfer news: Sky Sports pundit reveals transfer concern - 'They can't compete' - Duration: 2:06.

The Gunners have signed five players this summer - Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi and Stephan Lichtsteiner

They have come at a cost of £70million - just £10m less than champions Manchester City have spent on one man, Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal boss Unai Emery says their business is now done - unless a 'big opportunity' arises - while Manchester United and Liverpool are set to keep on spending

It's left Woods, an Arsenal fan herself, fearing missing out on the Champions League places again

She told the Transfer Talk podcast: "Seriously, look at the top four who are signing at the moment, maybe even the top five

"We can't compete with that. I don't think you can bring in a manager, or a coach, like Unai Emery and expect him to break down boundaries and get in the top four straight away

I think it's a building process."It'll take a season or two to get back in the mix

I don't see us taking a top four spot off any of those guys."Emery last week admitted his work is now done in the transfer market ahead of the August 9 deadline

He said: "We signed the players who we need, only if one player is a big opportunity for us to sign we can do it

"Normally we are thinking about the young player, the possibility to stay with us or go on loan to another team

"In this moment I think the squad is complete, only the possibility for one player or two players to leave

"To sign [a player] in the next month? Only if he is a big opportunity."

[ENG SUB] "We won't be lovers!" Suzu, Shuhei and Mackenyu in LiLICo Interview for Chihayafuru Musubi - Duration: 4:27.

It has been two years since the previous Chihayafuru film

We have Hirose Suzu, Nomura Shuhui and Arata Mackenyu with us again for an interview with LiLiCo

It has been awhile since you guys got together again.

How does it feel to be together in a project again after a long time apart?

Macken and I have already been in four films together

We tend to see each other a lot during filming

And I have been in contact with Shuhei as well

So it didn't feel like we have been apart for too long

Like childhood friends that are still in contact with one another

Personally, I feel that we were able to stay close with one another although we haven't

been in a project together for two years

Everyone is able to remain friends throughout, yeah?

Can we?

Of course

We can be more than just friends as well

We won't be lovers.

Only to the point of friends!

What does Arata Mackenyu draw from playing the talented karuta player, Arata Wataya in

Chihayafuru?

I came to Japan 4 years ago.

The first Chihayafuru film came out almost 4 years ago as well

Since the beginning of my career, it has started with Chihayafuru until now

Hey, I am talking about something important

I was saying that it is impressive with only 4 years under your belt!

Only 4 years and you're in the list of highly sought after popular actors

Of course, I am one as well

He's definitely in first place for actors who are his age

It's really impressive

We are meeting for the first time ever since you changed your stage name

Is it really true that you changed your stage name to Arata Mackenyu because of this film?

That's true

The Arata in Arata Mackenyu was adopted as his new stage name from his character, Arata

Wataya of Chihayafuru

It was the starting line for me as an actor in the first Chihayafuru film

Having the Arata in my stage name serves as an important reminder of the valuable lessons

and experiences that I have accumulated

That is really impressive.

He has the same level of poise as Arata in the film

His presence is like that of Arata

We've always felt as though the powerful Arata from the film is always around

The truth is whenever we duel in karuta

It is that intimidating Arata Wataya aura again

For Chihayafuru, the cast underwent intense karuta training

as the film is all about competitive karuta

(in the film) Macken is the teacher with his army of perfect disciples

Let us be number one in Japan

In its theatrical release today

Chihayafuru: Musubi, the final arc of the trilogy has fully sold out tickets everywhere

Despite the busy schedules of the cast, they took time out to practise karuta

Was there anything that left a deep impression on you?

We trained for karuta before filming commenced

The actors got together

We read the scripts together

And also practised karuta together

Going up against Chihaya's team

is the Fujioka team full of fighting spirit that is led by Arata Wataya played by Mackenyu

The Fujioka team that he built

WIth Macken as the leader,

and putting such a perfect team together

What about it?

Tell me quickly!

It was like as though a group of warriors just walked past

And Mizusawa(Suzu and Shuhei's karuta group in the movie) just went "ahhh.."

Quickly be positive!

Quickly be positive!

No problem, we're practising!

The slow-motion cinematography is beautiful

The choreography for removing the cards are really impressive

We had to fake it

While playing karuta, our facial expressions tend to look really odd

It's really not easy to control our facial expressions

In NG (bloopers) our card-removing shots were perfect

But the facial expressions were so bad so it became NG (blooper)

We had to really fake it well

It would have been better if we could stop at it (card removing shots)

But we were still required to be filmed along with our facial expressions

This is NG(blooper)!

They are really close with one another

It has been two years since the previous Chihayafuru film

Since then, I have played a little bit of karuta

The interest is a little there

It is too hard!

I couldn't even get a card
