Hello my friend I'm Rev Walker. Our Scripture reading is twofold. First from
Romans 1 Paul says 'First I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you
because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world' And Romans 5 verse
6 'For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
Indeed rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a
good person someone might actually dare to die, but God proves His love for us in
that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.' God bless the reading and
hearing in the Scripture today. Because of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at
Pentecost we're taught by God in a big way that the blessings of the Holy
Spirit come to us because we choose to praise, we choose to pray, and we lift our
hearts in gratitude for what Christ has done for us on the Cross. We put our
worries and our struggles aside, behind us, we give them to God and we're Spirit
filled. Our hearts are lifted to Him because we're receivers of the Holy
Spirit. We're His chosen and we're lifted up. Worship is our obedient response as a
disciple of Jesus Christ. A pastor friend used to have a man in his church, a man
who would sit near the front and when the pastor would get in trouble he'd
forget something he'd stumble he'd look at this man and this man's lips were
moving. He knew this pastor needed prayer and there he was praying for him. Now I
may not be able to see your lips moving but I know that you pray for me. Thank
you for praying for me and I'm so grateful for that. Now this man in the
pews never said Amen but when he got blessed by the preaching he'd say Whoo
and if he did that about three times during the sermon well
everybody really worshiped that morning and the pastor worked at trying to get
him to say whoo because all of God's people get blessed whenever that
happened in their Church. And the pastor came in one day and he must have had a
wrinkled brow and the man said "pastor don't worry about it God's going to be
wonderful in worship this morning." He said "I've already talked to Him about
you and the people that are gonna come here to worship and I've even talked to
Him about myself. I've spent more time talking to God about you pastor then
this whole worship service will last today." He said "God's gonna be wonderful
today!" And guess what? God is wonderful! God is
wonderful when we anticipate Him. God is being wonderful and we're liberated and
God is just as He IS. Worship is wonderful obedience to God and it
blesses us and we prepare our hearts to receive that. At Alpha Church we know
that we are rejoicers. We rejoice because of God's great gift to us in Jesus
Christ. We are New Testament people. We are Resurrection people. We are people of the
Light of Jesus Christ and we worship different than anybody else because
we've been redeemed by the Cross. If only we could see the rugged Maker of that
Cross and then we would see those Crosses in our churches, in our homes, and
we would see the redeeming effect of that. We can have the transforming effect
of the Cross upon us. You have a Cross in your home, you have a cross beside the
computer I hope. Well in Wisconsin there's a church that has a rugged cross
on it. It leans out over the tower of the Church and it's leaning forward so, and
you can see it as you walk in. And the man who built the Church asked them if
he could put the Cross up that he wanted to put.
It's a rugged metal Cross and he worked with that metal before and he knows that
it changes in the process of the seasons but he even got a surprise when he put
that metal Cross up there because that particular climate in Wisconsin
there's a red red rust on that Cross and when it rains it sweats and the water
runs down and it drips on the concrete below and there's a stained crimson red.
And when they ask the man how he liked that accident he said "I love it! It's the
most beautiful expression when it drips down on the snow in Wisconsin that red
red rust of the Cross there on the white snow of the new snow and it
reminds us that he died for us." As Christians we worship with a different
perspective. A different gratitude. A different link to the joy of God's
Presence. Praise be to God that He has made it so and that blesses us. God has
turned the symbol of the Cross the symbol of horror into a symbol of
blessing. And when the wonder of it really takes over our hearts we have to
practice just a little restraint unless we bug somebody else in the process of
our enthusiasm. But God doesn't ask for any restraint inside of us. He wants us
to adore hHm so that we can be completely His and the miracle of
worship happens. The Holy Spirit falls on our hearts and were filled and we're not
the same. We're changed. Now there's an unusual
name do you recognize it Gajowniczek. You know who that is?
He's a man who died in Nazi prison in 1931. Now somebody escaped from Auschwitz
and they said that nine people are gonna have to die because that one
prisoner escaped. And this man had a wife and two children
two sons. He visited with his wife and his sons
figuring that he'd never see them again and he turned and there's a priest. The
priest says "I'm not married I don't have a wife I don't have children I'll die in
your place" and he did that. The priest Kolbe died in Gajowniczek
place and after that Gajowniczek and his family were never the same. The
priest survived 14 days in the starvation chamber and they finally had
to give him a lethal injection to kill him and so it was because so much of God
was in him as he was dying for this man. I'm reminded of that recently because it
wasn't that long ago he was 94 years old that Gajowniczek. His wife said that her
husband had a passion for Christ, a passion that was contagious. Every day,
every day he told somebody or more than one somebody about Kolbe the priest who
died for him. He never told him about the priest Kolbe without saying to me Kolbe
is a symbol of the Son of God who died for me. And so when her husband died the
wife said now he's with the two people that have died for him. And somebody said
"Did you get bored living with a man with a passion like that who every single day
would talk about it and talk about it and talk about it, talk about who died
for him?" "Bored?" she said "No, living with him was wonderful. Living with a man who
had the passion of gratitude!" You know wives are gonna like you better if
you're a husband who's got the passion of gratitude and the same is true with
regard to wives. We have something to worship about and we're blessed by Jesus.
It's the very sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf and it's our response to the Holy
Spirit, the very Spirit Jesus's living presence within us. He
seeks out those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. When the winds of
the Holy Spirit blow inside of our hearts we have genuine thankful
responses to God and we're blessed how we do worship in Spirit. How did they do
it at Pentecost? The Holy Spirit falling into our hearts as we're grateful to Him
and it lifts us up. You know God wants sensitive hearts. He wants to use all of
us in sensitive prayer. And worship is a reflection of our whole life because
worship is a symphony of everything that we are, all that's in our heart as we
adore God, as we adore Jesus, as we value the Holy Spirit, and we're filled with
His love and we bow and humble ourselves before God, and we bring all that we are
and the best that we are right before God. And we ask Him to touch us with his
purity and the refining fire of the Holy Spirit .We want him to make us more like
Jesus and he does .And won't to be great when we get to heaven one day when we're
surprised about the little bit of a repair that's necessary to make us into
his image on that day. We're going to be like Him and I hope it's not a humongous
repaired job for a lot of us in our Church. I pray that we will be more like
Jesus while we're here during the worship services at AlphaChurch.org because
as we offer ourselves in symphonies of adoration, together affirming around the
world what Jesus Christ has done for us. We become more like Jesus. Now my friend
his name was Joseph Haydn. Now you may know that he did the Oratorio-- The
Creation. Later in his life he is an old man , in
his 90s and he's worn out, he's weak he can hardly see and hardly stand. They
bring him to the rendition in a wheelchair and beside him is a young man
a strong young man and another one but this strong young man helps him to stand
up ,helps him to get back into the chair and to sit. When they get to the place in
that piece of music The Creation that he's written, he can't sit any longer.
He motions and they help him up and he directs the choir in the orchestra and
then at one point he's seated ,and then it reaches such a crescendo of the stars
being cast into space by God and then there's a flash of light and voices at
the ultimate, and the symphony is playing, playing, playing. And the crowd can stand it
no longer and the crowd is on its feet and they're praising God and their
applause and applaud, applaud. And then the maestro there in his chair at the
center of the stage and they turned toward him and they start applauding him.
And he motions to the young men to roll him to the front of the stage and
this time he does not wait for the young man to help him up. He jumps up out of
the chair and he stands. And Joseph Haydn takes his hand and goes like this to the
crowd, patting the crowd to quiet down. The crowd in respect for the maestro
they're hushed and then Hayden says, "Not for me. Not for me. From Him does all the
blessings flow .From Him does all the blessings flow." And he's talking about
God and Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. And he staggers back and falls into the
chair and in adoration the crowd quietly worships the Creator. Augustine said that
every Christian ought to be one grand Alleluia, from the top of her head to the
bottom of her feet .Amen. Amen. Alleluia. Let me wrap it up this way:
Will you allow the Holy Spirit to do Christ's transforming work in your life
that you might praise him more fully, more deeply, be blessed more sincerely
than you ever have? I invite you deeper into Christ. I invite
you to worship like a true Christian disciple. And I invite you into
participation at Alpha Church. And I invite you into prayer right now--
Gracious Heavenly Father, you want it all including us. Grant that in our worship
we can simply acknowledge that we adore You. That we praise You. That we give you
all the Alleluias. And willingly we in gratitude glorify You with our lives
as we're your disciples. That we might be an offering unto our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.
My friend, please give your tithe offering to Alpha Church to help us to
offer Christ to those that He is seeking through your Church here. God bless you,
Amen.
